Went Grand Opening weekend like a damned machocist (and not in the fun way). Pretending it was a good idea to get some groceries and pick up new earbuds, cause they clearly last about 4.25 months. It was a competitive game of let's-not-get-trampled by confused shoppers reading signs above, but I did it for you, dear Yelpers. Just kidding. I scurried over ASAP because I had coupons and wanted to know if it was better than Target and the Holman Road QFuCk. Or was it as impressive as the Ballard location off Leary Way? Yelpers, my report back: It has potential: -Liquor/Beer/Wine Selection: Massivo. Unique selections like from Sun Liquor and other local distilleries was impressive. -The Greeting Card selection: Seriously? 4 whole rows? You will never not be...greeting card-less... - The produce/deli selection was massive as well, well lit next to the ~Starbucks.~ Prices I can't compare, but picked up some yummy stuffed portabello mushrooms that were fresh and tasty (duh it's fresh, the place was stocked 36 hours prior). -Downstairs had it's usual housewifey (no offense, dear in-home professionals) clothes and cheap shoes and other manly shit I can't comment about. -Millions of self-check out registers, which i prefer. (Ahem to the Safeway on 15th who informed me- "No way, we don't have those! Too much ~drama~!" wut?) Give it time to caaaalm down (preferably on an off time/day) to reduce the risk of being run over, give yourself ample time to actually navigate the store to the appropriate section and you may be pleasantly surprised at this new Target/QFC infusion. read more

The first time I came to this Fred Meyer I was house hunting in Seattle. After planning on dinner, but having the most impatient manfriend on the planet who ate before I was done and left me hungry, I stopped to get myself a bottle of juice in lieu of food before heading over to the man-friend's house for the night. I was talking to him on the phone, he asked where I was going, I said, "Fred Meyer" he said, "Oh my God, the one on 85th?! That's like the most ghetto Fred Meyer Ever. Babe, don't go in there, you could be shot." I laughed. And then I walked in... You Could be shot here. It's not unsafe, it's just... ghetto. It needs a remodel like yesterday, and it's just... awkward, like a teenager Fred Meyer that can't quite transition into adulthood and become a REAL Freddies, or something. It's weird. I hate the no groceries here. I understand QFC is like 20 blocks away and they're both Kroger companies, I don't care. Minus one star for the escalator not working half the time, minus one for getting absolutely no cell service inside the store, and minus one for not having any freaking groceries. Hello, it's a Fred Meyer, it's supposed to be one stop shopping! Plus one for being close to home and covering my toiletry needs, and plus one for friendly employees, at least the ones who ring you up, and the ones that work in the Natural section of the store. wow. WOW!!!!!! Seriously I walked in here and I was overwhelmed by the amazingness. They have EVERYTHING!!!! As far as food selection goes, they seriously have anything you would ever want. They have a sushi bar with a guy working there that will make you want you want on demand, they have more pringles options to choose from than I thought was possible, they have amazing salami which they will slice up for you at the deli, they have a Murray cheese counter with a TON of different cheeses, they had more options for milk and dairy than is probably necessary but why not, and the list just doesn't end. And then once you get past the ginormous grocery store, they have everything else! TVs, stationary, toys, mixers, clothes, furniture, shoes... it's like a Target + Safeway + Bed Bath and Beyond + more!!! I am honestly amazed. Went here on December 19, 2008 at 8:45AM to get snow chains for my tires. I had called the night before at 10PM and they told me they were in stock. What they didn't tell me is that they failed to plow, salt, sand, shovel, rope-off, or do anything to their parking lot. Which, after it had been snowing for five days, was covered in thick, compacted ice, concealled under a thin layer of fresh snow. I went here, just like I went to the Blockbuster next door the day before. Only they actually plowed their lot, as I assumed Fred Meyer would. Instead, halfway through the parking lot, I slipped on the ice and fell. A nice woman customer asked if I was alright, and I answered yes. But when I tried to stand up, I couldn't. I had to call 911 and take an ambulance to find out I had broken my ankle in FM parking lot. An employee came out and just stared at me, never approaching me or anything. Thanks a lot FM. If anyone remembers seeing my fall or saw the icy, unplowed parking lot that week, please message me on here. I don't want it to happen to someone else this winter. read more

A bit over two weeks ago someone gave this location a single star & said the deli guy was "the most miserable employed human on the planet" without any specific information on what happened. That's not a review, that's trolling. I shop here a several times a week and typically purchase deli items at least a couple of times a week and never had a problem with an employee. If anything, I get treated like a VIP by everyone I encounter there. Furthermore, I will take this opportunity to give the store deli chef major kudos. Don't know his name, but he's responsible for preparing the food items on the steam table everyday. If I'm correct, on Mondays, it's Asian food, Tuesdays Italian, Wednesday Mexican, etc.,etc. Not certain when BBQ is offered, but his pulled BBQ chicken is awesome, as well as the beans. This chef has been there since the opening of this location and his food is delicious. Yesterday, I sampled his Asian style sliced tenderloin simmering in a brown garlicky gravy which featured a nice variety of sliced mushrooms. I put this over the white rice which is brought out fresh on intervals. It may be considered spicy by those sensitive to spicy food, however, since I'm from New Orleans, it made me wish I would've bought a much larger amount to last a couple of days. To the first reviewer: there are a few reasons why this Fred Meyer location does not have a grocery store. 1) There is one right next door! Who wants competition? There is no NEED for it. 2) When they built this building way back in like the 1970s (?) Fred Meyer was a fairly small company and not all locations had groceries. Most now do but this particular location decided not to expand. 3) No room. It needs to be like warehouse-size if it wants to add groceries. Maybe if they bought Greenwood Market next door something could be done but in the meantime: it's time to get over it. ---- I love this Fred Meyer. It was like my neighborhood mall when I was a kid. This store has everything. The prices for groceries are very low in comparison to most grocery stores. I find the staff most helpful. They have a decent deli. They have gone to using more self checkout and. Tend to like a checker. Like every place it's about getting customers to need less servers. But the staff are great! The Good: Clean, brightly lit store, lots of free parking, and fairly fast checkout considering the volume of traffic this place gets. This past week, I was so happy to see kiwi berries here, they really do have a huge selection of good quality fresh produce. The prices are excellent compared to other Seattle stores too! The Bad: I spilled coffee on my workout shirt so I wandered in here to quickly buy a replacement top before my class. As I perused their womens workout section, I quickly found that every racer back tank that caught my eye, they were out of my size! For the most part, they only had L and XL in stock! It was so annoying. I left the store with a "S" Under Armour tank in a colour I did not prefer (the small actually looked like a dress on me, seriously, and I have a long torso, but it was the only "S" they had - I don't think I saw a single XS-sized item)! I called later the same day with the hopes to politely ask the apparel manager to please stock sizes for the petite folks who shop at their store, but their switchboard routed me to a woman in apparel who did not speak English very well. She hurriedly told me she was at the register and told me to call back and hung up on me. I called the main line again and instead of asking for the "apparel manager", I asked for the "store manager" and was transferred to produce and the guy who answered there was much more helpful and said he would get an email over to the director for me as well as apologised for my having been hung up on by apparel. There's room for improvement but overall I'd recommend them. read more

Fred Meyer is cool because it's open late and carries specific toiletries I am so obsessive-compulsive about... I like all the household goods like light bulbs, area rugs, towels, and plumbing needs. They are good quality at decent pricing. The clothing, however, is not quite in season all the time and a bit overpriced for the brand name (they sell some of the same things at Costco for much less), but I have a feeling that is a label thing and not the store itself. I never buy furniture nor anything from Multimedia/Electronics because everything just seems a little too expensive... I love Fred Meyer post-holidays. TONS of stuff on clearance that seems as though it was never even put out on the floor! read more

I think it's pretty hilarious to review a Fred Meyer, but I just really like this location. I'm originally from Texas...the land of superstores: super Target, super mega K-Mart, super spectacular double mega Walmart, et cetera, et cetera. Ugh. It really doesn't seem like Idiocracy's dystopian Brawndo-fueled future is that far away. So, perhaps needless to say, I'm not that big a fan of one-stop shopping. I like this Fred Meyer because I think it's about the only one left that is just a good ol' little Fred Meyer. They do have a very small natural food section, but otherwise, no grocery shopping here. I like the atmosphere, and it ends up being my go-to store for non-grocery necessities. Good sales too. I heard a rumor that they are going to tear it down...along with the Greenwood Market next door and replace them with a superstore. I hope it's not true. p.s. The neon accents in here are great. What an improvement from the old store. They leveled the former store, and rebuilt this new, amazing retail castle. I was so impressed with the much expanded layout, and the selections, particularly in the grocery department. Gourmet cheese? Yes, please. Milkshake station - I'll take that, too - and my son will take two, please. I love that apparel is totally separate and downstairs. Since many of the staff went to other stores during the construction, there are a lot of the staff from the old building, but there are some new people who are super friendly and amazing, as well. I would totally travel from Lynnwood to this Fred Meyer because it's so very groovy! read more

I am actually quite heartbroken that the era of this particular Fred Meyer store and the Greenwood Market next door is coming to an end. I love this Fred Mayer BECAUSE it is not huge. The selection is useful without being overwhelming. And the staff is very nice. They all seem happy to work there and that makes the place warm and personal, unlike any other Fred Meyer or Target or any such establishment around town. For all of you who weep that there are no groceries under the same roof: please, leave. Go get lost at the Fred Meyer megastore down in Ballard. That makes you happy. Just go. Most of Greenwood has been updated in recent years. It's less and less seedy (although might I add from someone who knows what ghetto can really look like: It never was major Sketchville). Even this Fred Meyer has been updated and while I am unhappy about what it has done to the rent around these parts, I appreciate this store so much more. I come here weekly. Between the awesome availability of locally grown and organic produce to the fact that I can buy a whole wild-caught sockeye salmon for about $5/lb (and while it won't be as boneless/perfect as buying the pre-filleted salmon which sells for upwards of $10+/lb, they are happy to fillet it for you if you're willing to come back in 10 mins or so), I am such a fan. If I had the money, I would love to shop at PCC and Whole Foods. But let's be real -- as much as I want to support local farmers and buy antibiotic-free/hormone-free/free range/etc., options, I can't afford those places all the time. This store is a perfect alternative. Not all of their produce is local but they do support some local farmers and their items are well-labeled. Their organic produce won't break the bank and the wild-caught seafood is exactly what this girl needs. The customer service is ultimately what makes this my favorite store. The deli and seafood people are my favorite. They also have quite the selection of cheeses and while I haven't needed their help much, their cheesemongers are always present and happy to answer questions and provide you with samples. I am very disappointed with Fred Meyer's online grocery delivery service. DO NOT order from them. They use Instacart and if there is a problem with your order they do not help you sort it out. I made a $265.00 grocery order and when it was delivered NONE of the items I had ordered was included in my delivery and the order I got was much smaller than what I had ordered. It was pretty obvious I had gotten someone else's order. When I called Fred Meyer they told me I had to contact Instacart. When I did I was told there was 154 minute wait to speak to anyone. I called Kroger and they told me they would put in for a refund. Well, I never got the refund and when I emailed Kroger about this they ignored me. BEWARE! read more

This Freddy's brings me back to the Freddy's of my childhood. Usually that's a good thing, but not in this case. The Fred Meyer I visited as a kid was skanky, old, and teetering on past the point of renovation. I stopped in here last night and I was taken on a trip back to the 80's. In some of the departments, the lights weren't even on........what the? is this a real business? I went downstairs to see what was down there.........reminded me of the bargain basement of the old Bon Marche. I have an affinity to Fred Meyer without just reason, I just do okay!? We don't have them back on the east coast so when I was first acquainted with this super store, it just made sense to me. My first experience was with the one in Redmond. I pretty much lived off their awesome salad bar for the first 3 months I lived here. Besides reasonable prices on groceries, I could buy that new pair of sneakers, a gallon of paint, and that new bed spread I've been meaning to pick up, all within the convenient confines of this one-stop shopping mecca. This upstanding relationship carried over to my days residing in Ballard and now have continued on to my quasi new home in Greenwood. Though the Greenwood locale lacks the grocery store feature, they still provide endless amounts of convenience, especially considering it's only a short walk away from my apartment. Like some of the other reviewers, I left this location feeling a bit puzzled & confused. Fred Meyer is a PNW company and has always promoted being a 'one-stop shopping' location. When I moved up to the Greenlake neighborhood, I had to find a new place to grocery shop. I was so happy to see a Fred Meyer as I love their popsicles (secret shame snack). I found this location near and went after a long day of moving. To my shock & surprise, there was no food sold here. Somehow you were supposed to know this (Even though every other location does). I wandered the store lost and finally asked a clerk who looked at me like I was crazy. I stopped on the way out and asked a different cashier where the nearest grocery store was. It turns out there's a Safeway one block down. I've never shopped at Fred Meyer for anything other than food so this location seems pointless. read more

2014~after remodel this site is great but still have the same closing concept. I was with crutches and trying to get to my car downstairs and the lady yelled at me to hurry up. It wasn't even closing quite yet. there isn't signage that states "closes earlier" the employees just decided to close up garage. It wasn't just once. I had parked up top but the same thing was happening to an older lady who had parked below... At least if you put up a sign you could have an excuse to harass people! This Kroger location is hopefully changing there's talk of it closing... This economy you don't want to loose your job's or customers. The closing crew closed everything @ 11 pm and while I was walking up to the front, closed all the registers told me come back tomorrow. It was literally 2301 pm. I had been looking for someone to help me find something & no one to be found. After searching all the tiny rows I found what I needed. Apparently hanging out at the front door I could of found everyone that could have helped. If I was hearing impaired you'd have a lawsuit. Oh that's right I am... Prices are probably the best in the neighborhood. Honestly I really miss greenwood market, but Fred Meyer does a good job trying to be everything. The generic deli meat sucks as does the deli meat loaf. They will take most things back. In fact I once saw a crack head return a dirty mop without a receipt. It's a Fred Meyer no doubt built from back before I was born. It's got two stories and seriously reminds me of being about four years old every time I go in there. I expect my mom to drop by and let me ride in the cart while she pushes me around to look at women's clothing when all I want to see are the toys. Actually, it's not too far from where I live so I often will walk down here when I need some odds and ends (auto headlight, after shave, envelopes, jeans, etc.). The prices seem fair but obviously, compared to the abomination that is desolation in Ballard this pales in comparison. It gets the job done and the people who work here are very friendly. I don't know if I'd really miss it too much if it wasn't here since I also live close to Target, but whatever. read more

Pulling my prescriptions out of Fred Meyer and my family won't be filling any future ones there. There is always a problem and today was no different. I went straight from outpatient surgery to the pharmacy with signed prescription in hand. They refused to fill it because a generic checkbox wasn't filled. I had a completely unacceptable experience! I picked up my order curbside and when I got home I saw that my pepsi was missing but I was charged for it. I called the store and they said I could come back and get it. When I arrive, I'm called by another employee who suggested that I'm lying. He said an associate remembered giving me my pepsi. They did not!!! I had to argue with them and stand up for myself for several minutes, then they decided to review the tape, keeping me from my plans. Obviously they find that I wasn't actually given the pepsi. Then they brought me the pepsi, but the associate told me I wasn't behaving correctly! So basically, Fred Meyer made a mistake and didn't give me what I paid for. They have me return to the store after driving home, then force me to wait and treat me like a criminal. Then they have the nerve to comment on my behavior, yet I didn't receive any kind of apology for this inconvenience or treating me like I'm lying. They said I would get the pepsi for free. Its still on my receipt and I have not received a refund. This was not my mistake!! I did everything right. I even pre-ordered many hours before my pick up time so the associates had time put my order together. Not only did I not receive the same respect or consideration, but the associates tried to withhold my pepsi after I paid for it. Thats stealing!! This is one of the most insulting experiences I've had at any business my entire adult life. If I ever return to Fred Meyer, its only because its close to my home. read more

This place used to make me crazy- the layout is insane, and then you have to deal with the same items in three different places. Who decided this was a good idea? I know, I know- corporate wants us dweebs to walk all over the store because then we will BUY more, but it just makes me irritable to the point I abandon my cart and go to QFC. I've got a new strategy-- as soon as I arrive, I go straight to the first person in a green Fred Meyer apron and ask where each item on my list is located. The employees are always very nice, which is why the store gets 3 stars. Now I'm a happy shopper, so I buy more stuff. It's a win-win. read more

My go-to shopping store. It's close and convenient. It has most of the organic and gluten free foods I have to eat. I moved to the area before it reopened and the closest store was Safeway which seems so old-school. Not the best selection. The store is clean and well organized and I haven't encountered an unhelpful or unfriendly employee yet. The last time I was there I was looking for those chip clips and a lady working in the home section suggested some plastic close-pins which are basically the same thing but cheaper. I appreciated her taking the time to walk me over and help with suggestions. read more

Of all the Freds in the city, this is the best. Not only because it's new, but because it is THE best one-stop shop in the surrounding area, Northgate Target included. So saith the suburban mom. From the above-average grocery sushi island, to the robust selection of organic food and craft brews, to the basement-level clothing and home goods section (itself the size of a Sears), there is nothing you can't find. My last trip I threw the following items on the conveyor belt in addition to my groceries: a robe, a car wash bucket, printer ink, party balloons, Russian soda, outlet converters, D batteries, and an air mattress. They also have a Coinstar, a paper shredder, a Redbox, an ATM, a well-staffed customer service desk, and a huge lawn and garden section. My only gripe is that the best place to park to enter is by the stairs leading to the entry, but then you have to wheel your cart way to the side to get down the ramp to exit. read more

I am a fan of Fred Meyer in general. I love that they have a decent "natural" food section (from where I like to purchase certain items), but are also a more standard grocery store (from where I like to purchase certain other items). Foodwise, it truly is one stop shopping 99% of the time. The fact that they also have toiletries and drugs and greeting cards and hardware just make them a that much more desirable place to shop. Prices are decent and staff are almost always friendly and helpful. What more could you want? I used to live just a few blocks from the Greenwood Fred Meyer and, when I did, shopped there frequently. (That, of course, was in the pre-grocery days.) So, I was excited to check out the new, expanded, Greenwood location. Since I had to do a Freddie's run last weekend anyhow, I decided to head on over. As others have mentioned, going there while the just-snipped grand opening ribbon still graced the entryway floor was an exercise in patience. But, it was also kinda fun. No one knew where they were going, so everyone was walking around looking up, hoping to find a sign to guide them. You sorta got a "we are all in this together" kinda feel. (The band they had playing near the checkout area was a bit too much, though. I know this was meant to be festive, but they were LOUD and turned an already chaotic situation into total sensory overload.) Still, all the Freddie's goodness I would have expected is there: A bakery. A deli. Lots and lots of cheese. These sections make up the periphery of the main floor (along with the wine!), while the rest of the floor is laid out like a more traditional "aisled" grocery store. The shopping carts are so clean and fresh! (Ok, I know that won't last, but they were sure fun to roll around last weekend.) Overall, the "new" Fred Meyer is fabulous and a great addition to the neighborhood. I'll definitely be stopping in again when life brings me to the north end of the city amd I am in need of, heck, just about anything. read more

Before the 2013 remodel I shopped here occasionally, cuz it's walking distance to my house. Yet the new grocery section is really nice, with organic, good cheese, meat & wine sections. Big clothing section on the lower level, I like the great selection of sports gear for Cougs, Hawks & Dawgs. I still shop mostly at the Fremont location cuz they have a Slightly larger selection of Organic, yet this location still handy & I recommend it. read more

This Fred M is re modeled, now with groceries it gives them a chance to show what they can come up with that is new. The Verdict...Some good and some eh. With it being re opened and giving away stuff the first few weekends, getting in there is rough...like finding a parking spot at the mall on black friday. They way underestimated the parking requirements. If your comparison is FM in Shoreline, this is much better with way more deli, cheese and prepared food. If comparing to Fremont, it's only slightly more of those things. There is a bigger variety of liquor, including fabulous Fremont Mischief distillery (yum). There is a bigger meat case and lots of sausage and other things they don't have elsewhere. Overall, it's clean and everyone's very friendly. That's the good part. I was sad to see that the bakery is even weaker than other FM's. But the big pain is that it's all horrendously laid out. Forget aisles and straight lines, there's all kinds of slants, dead ends, and several aisles don't have labeling (the aisle for toilet paper says dog food). Products are in strange alcoves. The non-food part of the store is largely in the lower level, and easier to figure out. On the whole, I'm a fan. I've had three prescriptions called in to this Fred Meyer pharmacy and two of them have been seriously problematic, once requiring an hour-long wait over some trivial misunderstanding on their part. Most recently they "didn't get" a prescription I know was sent in, meaning they just didn't bother to check their fax machine. This was a time-sensitive issue and I've been scrambling all morning to fix the problem. Just now they call my husband (not me, whose name and contact info are on the prescription) to say my prescription is ready. Oh, the one you didn't get? So if your prescription is for anything important, this pharmacy can't be trusted. I've had several bad experiences with spoiled food purchased at this store (inside sealed packaging no less), and I have very little interest in giving them additional opportunities to disappoint me.
