Unfortunately, one of the cookies that was ordered, nothing was listed as having chocolate in it, and my wife has issues with chocolate. It is pretty well known that in the food service industry, chocolate and peanuts are one of those things that you should never mess with when it comes to people's intake. The lady I talked to on the phone a day later mentioned that it was vegan chocolate if it made a difference, and quite frankly, I can see where at some level that might make a difference for the dairy, but in the bigger picture, it doesn't make a bit of difference as it is chocolate that is an issue not the dairy. The bottom line is it should've had a label on the shelf tag and it did not. In our opinion, it should even have a listing of the type of chocolate (dark, lite, etc ). As that could have been a hospitalizations worse. Then, at the end of the conversation, the person I talking to was dismissive and just wanted to move on -- clearly not somebody that should be answering the phones if she's not gonna fully listen (even though she said she did) to the very valid concern. She said that there's a recipe book that we could've asked about if we had any concerns. The concern was that there was no listing on the label of the cookie that was on the shelf. Something as simple as "contains chocolate" could have averted this whole situation.

Ordering online was simple, and I scheduled a Friday pickup for a Sunday celebration. However, when my husband arrived (slightly late due to other errands), we discovered the cake had already been placed in the display case to be sold by the slice--even though it had been prepaid ($70). We never received a call to confirm pickup. He watched as the cake was removed from the display and placed into a box that was clearly too small. Instead of correcting this, the employee covered it with saran wrap and sent it with him that way. The cake itself looked very poorly finished, with large areas missing frosting. When my husband asked about it, the response he received was dismissive and unhelpful. After he left, I called the bakery myself and was met with even worse customer service. I was told I should have "done more research" and that this is simply how their cakes look. When I expressed concern about freshness (since the cake was for Sunday and not properly boxed), I was told I should have ordered it closer to the date. I explained our schedule, but the response was essentially, "I don't know what to tell you," and I was refused any refund or solution. The interaction felt rude and dismissive, with no concern for customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, the cake itself was just as disappointing. When we cut into it, it crumbled apart. It lacked flavor, had chunks that seemed like uncooked flour, and the little frosting it did have was bland and uneven. Overall, it seemed rushed and poorly made. As a small business owner myself, I understand things don't always go perfectly--but the lack of care in both product quality and customer service was extremely disappointing. I truly wish I had a better experience and let me remind you the cake was $70 dollars.

It is always on our radar when we go to Astoria. Sitting on one of the old piers with a few other shops and a small museum this place is so warm, friendly with great coffee drinks and food that is perfect. They even allowed 3 of us a couple years ago to stay and use their Internet to work. Of course we kept buying coffee and food, that is a must for taking up their customer space. The service and friendliness of this place is top notch from any coffee shop I have been too. I really would love to keep this place a secret, but I want them to be here when I return so if you are in town please go visit them and hang iut for a bit with some coffee and food.
