I usually 100% agree with Chef Robert Irvine on Restaurant Impossible when he reprimands the owners of a restaurant for having pages and pages of menu. It becomes overwhelming on a customer to leaf through all of that, second guessing themselves at every turn. With that said, I'd go in there specifically in the mood for one thing, and then order that very thing because trust me, they WILL have it. I've only ever ordered the rib eye steak because I guess once I was able to land on something (my first time done by a panicky narrowing down between 4 items when the waitress turned to me), I didn't want to switch it up. The steak and side of veggies is cooked perfectly (and only like 12 bucks!) and the salad and bread/breadsticks is nice when it's included. My family has ordered other items (stuffed salmon, pizza, etc.) and all have been very pleased with their choices. The atmosphere is really friendly and has a nice neighborhood, everyone-knows-everyone kind of feel which is great. If you can get past the enormity of the menu choices, you're in for a real treat- and without emptying your wallet. read more

I cannot believe the people whining about the menu. Yes, it takes time to decide, but that's because everything is freshly made an absolutely scrummy. If you go out with a group, everyone can find something they like. I've never had a bad (or even borderline) meal at Frank's. I've eaten around the menu & have been impressed with everything from fish, to pasta, to beef, to ribs, to sandwiches, to etc,etc. I have favorites from every section of the menu, but hands down my favorite is the black & blue steak--blackened flank & Gorgonzola--yum!! And, when you order red meat they do it right. I usually ask for mine to Moo & that's what walks to my plate (but not bleeding, because they know enough to let it sit & absorb). The portabella stuffed ravioli w/vodka sauce!!!! OMG. The atmosphere is wonderful--just a local place, filled with locals (& newbies who are treated like locals). The waitstaff is perfect for the atmosphere, friendly (even on the busiest night) & not stuffy or caustic. NOT dog friendly. I've been to Franks on numerous visits and the food and service has always been outstanding. Last evening we took our dog out to dinner the tables were so close and no fans so it was extremely hot. NO bowl of water for the pets like a REAL dog friendly restaurant. Service was and waitress (Danielle) was slow and when asked for chicken tenders for our dog seemed put out. When they came they were over cooked and couldn't pull off coating to feed our dog the chicken. I do like Franks and will return but not with a dog or to the outside patio. I would suggest tables-on the outside of the crowded area (weather permitting) and have bowls of water and a few dog friendly items if you say you are dog friendly read more

This place has seriously gone downhill. It used to be a local hangout but now its just some corporate shill. I ordered pickup online and left to get it it at the time they said to. We waited AN HOUR for my pick up our order! And they messed it up! The people behind the counter had us wait, didnt have the food and we had to wait longer for the replacement meal. When we got it home the only meal in the bag was the replacement meal, nothing else we ordered! It will be a cold day in hell when i step in here again. We stopped at Franks after visiting a family gravesite and what a great place! From Frank and Chris to the bartender everyone was welcoming and friendly. We were surprised at the size of the menu. If you can't find something you like on it then you are way to picky. My brother and I enjoyed great burgers and my sister raves about her buffalo chicken hoagie. The pierogies were fantastic. Oh and the draft beer ice cold. Definitely will return for a dinner I highly recommend this small town everyone knows everyone jewel. read more

My wife and I, vacationing from Florida, celebrating our 48th anniversary, My friends from Carbondale recommended going to Frank's for a nice meal. The last time that I listen to friends. Let me first say the the server was great. The problem was in the quality of the food! We ordered seafood stuffed mushrooms, we received sausage stuffed mushrooms. The server did take them back and brought out the correct ones. For our entrees, my wife ordered the lobster tail and I ordered the Surf and Turf. I ordered the filet Pittsburgh style (charred rare). The filet came to the table a pale grey color , defiantly not charred rare. The server took it back to the kitchen and returned it 15 minutes later still not cooked properly, this time close to well done and as tough as an old milk cow. All of the vegetables were cold, that the butter would not melt. The server also returned the vegetables to the kitchen. Now the lobster! The lobster was also over cooked. This was all dried out to a point when cutting it, it required a hard sawing motion and a great deal of pressure to get through it. The server tried her very best to make it an enjoyable meal. I did ask the server to remove the charge of the steak from my bill and she did. I think the cook may need to go back to school. Needless to say that my wife and I were very disappointed! July 25, 2020 16:00 Arrived for our 16:00 reservation for a party of four. We were promptly seated, social distancing was obviously in use and multiple visible areas for hand sanitization. We were promptly given menus and our drink orders were taken and received quickly. Extensive menu which I recommend you check out before you go unless time isn't a factor for you. We ordered appetizers and our meals from a very nice waitress. Our salads came out and were quite a good size. We had ordered two orders of steamed clams and an appetizer sampler which included wings, mozzarella sticks, pierogis and shrimp. The pierogis and shrimp were very good. The mozzarella sticks were over cooked, greasy and looked terrible on the platter. The wings on the other hand were undercooked, rubbery and disappointing. The waitress had only brought one order of steamed clams and by the time she returned to the table another me ever of the waitstaff had already removed our appetizer plates. The wings were left on the platter and we were not asked if they should be boxed, if they were good, etc. Our meals came-the chicken piccata was a HUGE portion, presented beautifully and delicious; the stuffed haddock (the person who ordered this couldn't remember what kind of fish the menu said) was perfectly cooked, plated and served and again absolutely delicious; the Ahi Tuna steak was one of the best I have ever had! A large cut, cooked a perfect rare, with excellent Wasabi and soy sauces, the GIGANTIC serving of garlic mashed potatoes were dry and thick and are something I would not order again, and to be honest I don't think they were the garlic mashed potatoes-if they were they had no garlic flavor whatsoever. I asked for some gravy which was promptly brought in a small bowl with no ladle, spoon or way to get it on the potatoes. I asked for a spoon and was brought a knife, fork and napkin. Luckily another person at our table hadn't used the spoon served with their pasta and I was able to utilize that; the Linguini and clam sauce was plated beautifully and again a HUGE portion but there was so much black pepper- visible all over both the pasta and inside the clam shells themselves that the person who ordered it couldn't eat it. When the waitress came and asked how our meals were she was told how "spicy" that meal was, we were told that is how it is made there and she did not offer to replace it or anything. Not wanting to push the issue another person in our party swapped dinners and ate what she could of the linguini and clam sauce. We ordered coffee and desserts the waitress brought the coffee, which was not even a bit warm. No sugar offered at all and no spoon given. the Creme Brûlée was cooked perfectly with a perfect hard shell top-impressive! The other desserts ordered were also very very good! I think some staff training, quality assurance checks (for consistency, etc.) would go a long way with assuring customer satisfaction and/or resolutions. I will go back there again! read more

I've been here twice now while traveling for business. Never been disappointed. Service has been good. The food is very good and generous portions. Most recently I had the lasagna/chicken parm combo. My husband and I have dinner at Frank's 2-3 times a month. Usually we go during the week and if I was commenting on weekly service I would rate 5 stars. Unfortunately we went up for Sunday evening dinner and the service left a bit to be desired. First, there was a party going on and 2 of the better servers were working there. Our server seemed to have her own time table. ( I think her name was Paige). She took about 10 minutes to come over to the table for our drink order. When she brought the drinks she took our food order. Here's where the problem started! The server relied on the runners to bring our food. My husband had to wait for the server to come over to get another beer. She never bothered to check if everything was ok. Even if something was wrong there was nothing we could do because she was no where to be found. As an aside cocktails increase check which could increase tip! We usually start tip at 20% and go up or down from there. Not last night. read more

My family has always enjoyed the food and service here for years. After this evening we will NEVER support this restaurant again! We had a reservation for 5. I knew they would be busy on a Saturday nite but still expected Covid Compliance... This restaurant absolutely is not following the restrictions with social distancing, or limited capacity. but besides that it is always the choice whether to support the establishment. Upon arriving felt uncomfortable with the amount of people in tight quarters in all aspects of the restaurant. When approached about our reservation I politely asked if we could be seated in a less crowded area. His reply was it is all crowded. I asked if they were operating at full capacity. His reply was they CAN seat 650 people(very hard to believe) so 325 is ok. He then abruptly walked away. Having no idea what his intention or where he went we decided we were too uncomfortable and started leaving. As we got outside in the parking lot he appeared from out of the outside tent and literally YELLED to us ... you're leaving! I have a table reserved for you. Go ahead Stiff Frank's!! I replied politely that there were more than enough people here waiting for a table. He then SCREAMED at us to get out and don't come back!!! This all took place before a crowd of people! Great food , great portions and not over priced. It was our first time there and we had about 10 people with us and the service was great our waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs. The apps came out in a timely manner and we had enough time to enjoy them before our meals came out. I think almost everyone at our table left with a doggy bag to enjoy the next day . I wish I could tell you the deserts were great and I'm sure they are but we were all filled from apps and dinner. If you haven't tried it give it a try you won't be sorry and ps. Its unfortunate that I have to give this one star, but I have to be honest. I knew from the moment we pulled up on a Friday at 6pm it was going to be crazy busy. Trying to find parking is the first nightmare you have to deal with before even getting inside. If I didn't already have reservations for my grandmas birthday I wouldn't have even bothered. Yes I know this is prime time for dinner, and yes on a Friday night it will be busy. The restaurant has expanded immensely in the past few years, and it looks great. The quality of the food on the other hand, and the service has gone down the toilet. I really think they just take too many reservations and have so many customers that they just can't handle it anymore. I mean actually it's obvious. The food used to be amazing years ago, but the more they expand the worse it gets. Took over an hour to get our food, and then my son who ordered something very simple got his order messed up, they brought him back out a new sandwich as the rest of us were packing our food to leave. A fricken sandwich... come on. I don't even know how you can make a peperocini and cheese sandwich instead of a 'pepperoni' and cheese sandwich anyway!!!! My poor grandma got her food last after everyone had theirs for at least 5 minutes. My husbands steak tasted old and definitely was not cooked the way he asked. All of everyones sides were cold. I think it's time for them to actually expand the kitchen instead of making room for more customers. You need to be able to keep up with the customers you have! We have ordered delivery in the last year and its been terrible, but you have to expect it not to be up to par when you get it delivered from a place like this. I'm updating my review from a 4-star to 5-star due to the exceptional time my family and I had when I came in to visit over Christmas break. I ordered the filet which was terrific and our entire party of 7 was super pleased. We had a 6 year old and a 3 year old with us and they were having a blast (while maintaining good behavior of course!!) maybe! Lol. The staff was terrific and our whole party loved our meals, which ranged from various appetizers, to pasta/seafood entrees and steaks. I love this place and always make a plan to have a family night out when I'm home from Texas to visit family. They have a huge menu and a great variety of draft, canned, and bottled beer. There is something that everybody will enjoy and it is my understanding that they run various specials, as well as military and senior citizen discounts at times. I know plenty of people who take time to visit this restaurant routinely, ranging from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area up to the New York border past Honesdale which is a testament to the variety, quality, service, and ambience this place has to offer. read more

I get into the Simpson area abut 1-2 times a year, the headquarters for the company I work for is just down the street. I make it an absolute must to stop into Frank's every time I am in the Scranton area! Frank's probably has the largest menu of any other restaurant that I know of. All of the dinner options that I have tried are outstanding; prime rib, ribeye, salmon, pizza, to name a few. Their appetizers are awesome, I love their muscles, and clams. Cooked in a garlic butter sauce, which usually winds up getting mopped up with bread. Staff is great, always on the ball and friendly. Great atmosphere, great food, great prices. read more

The worst thing about this restaurant is having to make a choice from a menu just moderately shorter than War and Peace. Everything sounds delicious, and everything I've selected over the years has lived up (or surpassed) its description. I have never had a bad meal here; never had a "meh" meal. Frank's is one of the few places where I will order steak and know that it will come to my table just as I'd ordered--crispy outside, mooing inside, not overly seasoned, just good meat. I could go through all of the meals I've had, from chicken, to pasta, to seafood, to salads, to sandwiches and find something to drool over. And it's not the boring usual usual--many items are creative without being snobby. This is not haute cuisine. It's a family restaurant on a side street in a small town. Most times the owner is tending bar and the cook and servers are family; as are many of the diners. It's good food, and lots of it at reasonable prices. Wow, all I can say is Frank must have a big family! However, I think the reviews come from comparison of the local market, not the quality over all. The most interesting thing is the story of Frank's which is published in the book when you sit down... Yep, I said book. That has to be the biggest menu that I have ever seen! 23 appetizers, not counting wings or pierogies! After those two pages there are 16 salads. 16! And a whole page "for the kids"! Then there are like 7 more pages... burgers, wraps, fajitas, seafood, sandwiches grinders, steaks, ribs, Italian, hoagies, "in the basket", pizza, desserts and more! Seriously, I knew I was in trouble when there were fajitas and Italian Favorites on the same menu. Oh, don't forget the Polish Pierogies! Really, what would you call that? Mexitalish? Come on Frank, when you try to please everyone you end pleasing none! This is a place in desperate need of Gordon Ramsey. Pick something and be the best at it and people will come from all over; as it stands it's just not as bad as some of the other local joints. Would I go back? I don't think so... This is a gold mine in an old mining town! You need a drink just to settle in and read the encyclopedia sized menu. If this menu does not meet your craving something is wrong. DO NOT LEAVE without trying the homemade perogies. You can buy them to take home as well. The sandwiches, pasta and chicken are a good choice. I am looking forward to going back and trying a steak!
