We love Chip and Stone! They have an interesting menu and we have yet to have a bad meal there. The staff are friendly and I genuinely feel like they go out of their way to make us feel welcome. We are new to the Carbondale area and we truly feel like home here. As for the food, the bangers and mash are definitely a favorite. It tastes just like what I had when I visited England a number if years ago. The shepherd's pie and flatbreads are also delicious. Don't sleep on the weekly specials, either! There's something new every time we go in. They play trivia most Friday nights. My husband and I were in Carbondale staying at Hotel Anthracite and skiing at elk mt. And stumbled across Chip and Stone online. I'm really glad we went. It's a quaint Irish pub owned by Eric and his wife Chrissy. We sat at the bar and they were very welcoming. We both had soup - loaded potato and the seafood chowder. Then I had scallops and shrimp with Mac and cheese and my husband had wings fries and salad. Everything was delicious. The desserts are made by Chrissy and do not disappoint, though we had to take ours to go since we were so full. Anyway, definitely recommend if you're looking for a home away from home atmosphere and some really good food. read more

This place is no longer called the chip and stone !!! there's a new owner its called old city Tavern when you drive by there is never anyone there. But we decided tonight to give it a try. We used to go there a lot!! They sold it. And I have heard nothing but bad things, so this was our first time there since the new owner took over. we walked in the girl behind the bar was not friendly at all. Very uncomfortable place. The owner was walking around didn't say hello to us. We were the only ones in there. The beer was terrible. You could tell it was old on tap warm. I can see why there's never anyone there. The worst part was the attitude and the beer was warm and old. The best part was the burger was just OK. But even if the food was good, the owners attitude and the bartenders attitude were terrible, very unfriendly would not recommend this place to anyone anymore it's too bad, it used to be a place to go with good food. What a shame.!! my opinion is if the owner gets better staff and becomes a little more friendlier. It may have a chance, but otherwise no way I give it a year. You can't run a place if the only people you have coming in are your friends!!!! read more

My wife and I stopped here during a recent trip to Carbondale. We each ordered the shepherds pie, which was very good, and we sampled a number of draft beers before settling on our IPA of choice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The highlight of our visit was the dessert. We had the house made coconut cream pie, which was simply fantastic. I'm a big pie enthusiast and looking back, I believe this was the best pie I've ever had. I strongly recommend a visit for a casual dinner and a fantastic dessert. read more

My wife, son and I took our daughter to the Chip and Stone Irish Pub for our daughter's 31st birthday. It was her choice as she had been to the Chip and Stone a few days before and really enjoyed the food. The owners and employees are very welcoming and friendly. We were promptly seated and drink orders were taken by our server. We started things off with an order of Irish perogies which were excellent. My wife and I ordered the stuffed flounder, stuffed with crab meat. Our daughter ordered a burger and our son ordered the beer battered haddock. The food was exceptional. Cooked to perfection. What a pleasant treat to find this neighborhood restaurant! The atmosphere and staff are both friendly and inviting. It happened to be Trivia night, so the place was lively and entertaining. The bar serves a variety of unique specialty drinks and beers on tap. The sea food chowder was melt on your mouth creamy and delicious with a subtle hint of spice. Our main dishes were just right. Unexpected and delicious! I kept seeing Facebook posts about events here and was dying to try it. Good news is that I was not disappointed! At my server's recommendation I tried a cup of out of this world seafood chowder and an order of Irish fish and chips. I was blown away by the flavor of each dish. Often times fish and chips can be greasy and fairly bland but the Guinness batter and fresh haddock blew me away. Definitely worth another visit! read more

Our first time at Chip & Stone. Great Irish Pub, in Carbondale, PA. Started with the Turkey Balls, a good appetizer. I had one of the stuffed burgers with the a side of Irish Mac & cheese. Wow!
