Tucked in the back of a non descriptive center is a true gem. With Yelps recommendation we dove in and WOW, we were thrilled with our choice. Excellent food and service. I apologize for not taking pictures. If you can get a reservation in advance that's recommend. We tried the specials Grouper Francais, scallops piccata, and shrimp pasta with spinach and mushrooms. The other main was a penne and chicken with vodka sauce. All were excellent and so Delicious! The fresh bread with garlic was very nice. We also had a tiramisu and chocolate torte -- the strawberries and chocolate with the fresh whip cream was the perfect dessert. read more

Service was good and well attentive. My wife really enjoyed her pasta and my lasagna was alright. The portions were good but more expensive than it should be. Dessert was also good. Small location so we had to sit outside, but they did have live music. read more

This was simply the absolute best Italian I have ever had. The pictures are so misleading. Frank is actually in the back cooking and you can tell. If you are in the area you owe it to yourself to go to Franks. I had the angel hair with house pink sauce and my wife had lasagna and both were delicious. Frank's Grill was highly recommended by a local. We entered the inviting restaurant which was majority packed. Joanna made special room for us out of the heat! My hubby had the Oscar-style filet mignon in a luxurious dish that combined a perfectly cooked filet mignon steak with jumbo lump crab meat, asparagus spears, and a rich béarnaise sauce. My perfect dish of Grouper Francaise, the Grouper a firm, moist texture with large, flaky pieces. If you are in Marathon, you must stop at Frank's Grill and say hello to Beautiful Joanna. Went here on a double date with some friends and I was the only one who had a rather lackluster dinner but I would def recommend. I love restaurants that have outdoor dining. We had nice, chill live music as well. The locked bathroom around the corner is a pretty big bummer. read more

We are new to the area and heard many compliments about this restaurant. I called to make a reservation and we were able to get in early on a Saturday. We had researched the menu on the website and happened upon Frank in the parking lot. He also came by our table to welcome us. Who does that??? The food is absolutely fantastic! We enjoyed the muscles, eggplant parm and osso bucco and both were outstanding. They make their blue cheese dressing in-house and the salad was very fresh with great tomatoes and crispy cucumbers. Theresa was our server and she is very pleasant, efficient as heck and overall amazing! We never had an empty glass or bread basket. After filling ourselves to the gills we indulged in the tiramisu and that too was "over the top!" I'd give them a rating of 10 if it were allowed. We will definitely return. We go whenever we are in the area. Started with the creamy Lobster Bisque that had generous chunks of Lobster. The Linguini with White Clam Sauce is amazing. Crispy warm bread to sop up the clam sauce!! Shrim fra Diavolo had just the right "kick". Tiramisu for dessert should not be missed. Service was excellent as well. read more

Authentic as it gets! Came in on a rainy night before season. Normally, you're not getting in without a reservation. Our server Baha, was a delight and she thoroughly explained the menu to us first timers. We went with the veal Marsala that she suggested. We each had a salad and the house made dressings make you never want to settle for bottled, store bought crap again. We didn't have room for dessert but we cannot wait to come back when we're craving some truly authentic, feel good Italian! The roasted garlic is a nice accompaniment to the fresh warm bread. Stopped along the 3 1/2 hour drive from Miami to Key West. My son said it got good reviews, so we went in. He got cheesesteak sub and I got the grilled fish sandwich. He liked his sub, but OMG the yellowtail on my sandwich was fabulous! It was grilled to perfection, and with just a little lemon, it was perfect (I did not insult this filet with tartar sauce!) I didn't even eat it like a sandwich (the bun was very good, but this fish needed no accompaniment!) The service was very friendly, and the beer was cold! All in all a great experience! read more

We have lived here now for three years. Last night was our first time at Franks Grill, party of four. We all got the black grouper francais. Absolutely the best meals I had had in years. Our server Linda just made our time there over the top. I needed some shredded Parmesan so she had me tilt my head back And proceeded to shred the cheese into my open mouth. To much fun !!!! We arrived later in the evening. It was me and my 3 kids, 10,4,3. Inside was full but they sat us outside right away. The wait staff was so nice. We Loved the actual Italian grandma waitress! We could tell it was going to be good. We spent 7 days in the Keys and had fried calamari at each place we ate. This was by far the best. No shmancy aioli and soupy salsa on top. Just the traditional marinara and the flash fried calamari, Crunchy and tender. My 10 year old loved the Alfredo. Very simple and creamy. All the food was traditional, very lightly seasoned to perfection. My yellowtail snapper was the best I've had this trip as well, Flaky and so fresh. Great service and great food! read more

Not understanding the positive reviews for this place.. will start with the few goods.. bread, service and a clams appetizer special. We liked our waiter. Lobster bisque was like a bowl of tasteless thick flour - no lobster, no sherry, inedible. Piccata was very salty and sauce had strange gelatinous quality to it. Wine? Eeesh. No selection.. all Mondavi which is terrible.. it's not hard to find a few good house wines to offer. Couldn't even finish the one glass. Ah well. Where to began, the wait staff was very accommodating. We entered the restaurant and my wife didn't feel comfortable with how close everybody was inside and we requested to eat outside. They warned us about the flies (luckily they were not an issue). They cooked our Mangrove Snapper that we caught previously in our trip perfectly. We chose the franchise and blackened style. This was the best meal we had all week and wish we knew about this place sooner. They have the best blackened seasoning in the keys. We topped off our dinner with their homemade cheesecake and tiramisu. These desserts are literally heaven on earth. We had dessert at better then sex in key west and Frank's Grill desserts were 100% better in every way. We also had the privilege to meet the staple of the restaurant, the sweetest Italian grandma. She reminded me of late late grandmother and was the nicest and sweetest person I have met in a long time. She is definitely an asset too this establishment. read more

It's easy to be skeptical of the positive reviews, but they are on point. This place is excellent. My wife and I stayed on Marathon not far from this restaurant, and we decided to get a nice take-out dinner after the kids were in bed. Note that I was unable to get through via phone to place a take-out order -- I stopped by in person and it was easy to do, and the food was ready in about half an hour. My wife ordered the grouper francaise and I ordered the shrimp fra diavolo. Both were wonderful. The grouper was perfectly cooked, and the shrimp fra diavolo had excellent flavor and plenty of clams (and a few mussels). The sauces for both were savory and delicious and great for dipping the included bread into. My wife got the Italian wedding soup with hers, and she thought that it was very good as well. For background, my wife comes from an Italian-American family, and she regularly makes Nonna's recipe for wedding soup for special occasions. Was Frank's as good as Nonna's? In our opinion, not quite, but pretty darn close (there was no egg or chicken in his, just meatballs), and that's saying something. Finally, let me comment on the pricing. I am a pretty frugal, value-minded person. I absolutely hate paying tourist pricing. There are other places on Marathon that charge $12 for a kids' cheeseburger meal, and that really grinds my gears. But this is not that; the pricing here is right in line with what comparable dishes of equivalent quality would cost in any major metropolitan area. And this is coming from someone who lives in a large city known for its food scene (Austin, TX). Ultimately, the calculus looks like this: you can spend $20-$30 for a mix plate of fried seafood somewhere else, or you can come here and get something truly excellent for ten bucks more. read more

Ok we are in marathon Florida again I think this is our fifth time here in Dec so obviously we make a reservation at Frank's grill the best restaurant in Florida. I ordered the clams and linguine . I order it like this one order linguine with an order of clams on the top to die for . Sherri ordered the grouper in a Francine sauce also to die for our step mother she always order the fried shrimp very good she also had soup lobster I believe we had a nice fresh salad. He even knows how to serve a salad crispy and cold delicious. Well this time I even got a t shirt to represent the place like I said in all my reviews of this place if you ever in marathon it's a hidden gem for sure . The best food in Florida try it you won't be disappointed. I almost forgot to mention he even has good taste in tshirts small logo in the front large in the back all tshirts should be that way instead of a big old logo in the front anyway enough about their tshirts go try their food that's what's up read more

I'm going to start off by saying I wish I had read the reviews. We were meeting friends and this was the halfway point so we made a reservation as recommended. We were greeted by a less than nice host not a good start. The place is small but it looks quaint and family owned. There were four of us and if anyone has ever been there you know it's a large menu. You need a minute. The highlight of our dinner was our server. She was friendly and she tried. We ordered our wine and beer (no full bar) and then dinner. I ordered a house Merlot and did not finish it. The four of us had three different dishes. The dinner salad was fresh romaine and had cucumbers, red onions, and tomatoes. It was great! The Lobster Bisque was a strange brownish color, grainy texture, and there was no distinct lobster flavor. We hadn't finished our soup and salads before they started bringing out our entrees. Ok, that happens sometimes but truly none of us had completely finished and we all felt rushed. Entrees are awkwardly served. We had three different fish dish preparations. The piccata was gelatinous and salty. My grilled fish was bland and soggy. The grouper looked better than the yellowtail however both fishes were soggy and overcooked. Perhaps they're cooking all the fish ahead of time? Also the spaghetti served in butter and garlic was less than fresh. We hadn't really finished our entrees and they were trying to clear our dishes. Three different people came to clear our dishes and then a man came over to pick something up and rudely said under his breath that people are waiting for this table. We didn't know there was a table time limit and after spending $200 plus tip on dinner we felt we should've been given a minute or two to finish up our evening. Personally, I would not come back for dinner. Maybe it's a better lunch spot but I wouldn't risk it. In my opinion they should take their "fresh fish" option off the menu. The other highlight was the sax player who both couples tipped on our way out. read more

Fabulous dinner. Teresa was our server and did an excellent job, despite the previous review to the contrary. She recommended the carafe of wine as a better option than our 3 glasses, and was very attentive. We each got the yellowtail snapper, prepared 3 different ways (poached, Francaise, and picccata) and all were excellent. The fish melted in our mouth. We enjoyed the roasted garlic served along with the oil to dip our bread in, and the lobster bisque was good. I was really looking forward to having dinner with my friends on my last night in Marathon and oh boy, I was so happy to not be disappointed. Whew. I had the Yellowtail Snapper francese with capers. Others who had that and I agreed it was very good. Very light. Others ordered lasagna and were very pleased. Our server Theresa was awesome, so friendly and attentive. Their bread with olive oil and roasted garlic is a yummy start and then the entrees just take it up from there. We found Frank's Grill on Check Please South Florida traveling there 120 miles one way from Broward County to dine. Our favorite is the classic escargot prepared as they should be garlic parsley butter. (A week before Lazy Lobster served escargot with onions, mushrooms covered in thick stringy cheese soaking in a water bath - disappointment). The fried calamari was absolutely FRESH and cooked perfectly - this is THE BEST calamari we have ever eaten. Lobster bisque was spot on. Jalapeno poppers were fresh & cooked perfectly. The meat lasagna was to die for. Warm bread was served along with real butter. Tiramisu was fresh and delicious. Yes, it is a small restaurant with some patrons lingering for hours so tables need to be turned over. Waitress was gracious and looked after us like a mother hen meeting our needs. During lunch the cook let us order off the dinner menu which was a plus i.e. Snapper Francaise. Frank runs a fine restaurant - that is why we make the 240-mile trip bypassing Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, South Miami & Homestead. It's worth the trip. read more

Frank's Grill is an Italian restaurant in the middle keys, Marathon. It is a small place in the corner of a business plaza that looks like it used to be an old hotel. The food is good and certainly worth giving the place a try if you're looking for something different in Marathon. We enjoy the 'Shrimp fra Diablo' which is spicy and does come with 1/2 dozen mussels on top. The place is VERY small so if you're at prime dinner time, be prepared to wait as it is popular. They do have limited seating outside if the weather isn't too hot. read more
