We had heard good things about this place and we were curious! We decided to go there for brunch and it definitely lived up to all the hype. We loved the environment and just how friendly everyone was. Of course we also loved the food too! My husband got biscuits and gravy and loved it, I got the Denver omelette and it was amazing! Excellent service makes a meal perfect. The wait staff, servers and kitchen staff were all very pleasant helpful. We had the works omelette, which was good but I have had better, but with the service combined it was worth it. It was not noisy, plenty of parking and very kid friendly. This is a cute little diner for small groups. The diner is actually an old train car, or built to look like one. The seating is limited and narrow. There is a set of bar stools, when you first walk in, which makes for a cozy homey feeling. Very clean atmosphere. From the pictures I've seen, of there food I was thinking it would taste delectable, however I thought the pancakes where bland. They didn't have the buttermilk taste I was so looking forward too. Went here for brunch early Saturday afternoon. Delicous! The restaurant is based in an old train car and has a fun ambience. Seating wise, you can choose from: first available, comfy booths or counter seating (stools that overlook the grill where you can watch the delicious breakfast foods sizzle away). As soon as you enter the place, your senses are assaulted with breakfasty goodness. The scent of bacon and hashbrowns is wafting through the air. Their bacon, by the way, is excellent. Their hashbrowns (to which you can add onions or cheese) are plentiful and also excellent. Frank's has the BEST hot chocolate. I'm talking rich hot cocoa, whip cream, and colored sprinkles in a dainty mug. Yum. You'll be tempted to gulp it down in one sip. Like milkshakes? Try the huckleberry shake. Amazing. I've never had huckleberry anything and it was well worth the try. I got the kid's size shake ($3.59) and it was the perfect amount (seemed like a regular size shake to me). I heard that their hollandaise sauce was good so I got the American Benedict (a take on the Eggs Benedict but with the addition of a tomato). I was not disappointed. I got the light version. This place is awesome. I grew up in New Jersey so I really appreciate a great diner. It's in a train car, which is awesome, but a little cozy. Probably not the best choice if you're claustrophobic, but I'm not so it's awesome. Let's be honest though, it's all about the food and service right? Well, they're both on point. The chef cooks where you can watch him and it's really quite a show. To keep such a small area clean and organized, and put out quality food quickly, it's all really impressive. And the service is great too. My coffee never goes empty at Frank's! If you go at a typical breakfast hour, (especially on a weekend) expect a little wait. Trust me, there is a good reason people are willing to wait, this place is good! And...they give my son a balloon on the way out every time we leave. So the whole family is happy! read more

Quick summary: After seeing all the wonderful reviews online and hearing raves about this diner from family, I have been dying to try this place out - it didn't live up to the hype for me, though. The atmosphere in the train car is amazing, but the food, in my experience, was nothing to write home about - some was actually inedible for me, but what saved it was the hashbrowns - go for the hashbrowns. My detailed experience: My mom and I decided to stop there for brunch yesterday, on a Thursday afternoon (granted, it was around 1pm but we were going to have breakfast). I was told at its busiest hours there is a line, we didn't have to wait in line and the diner only had a few other people in, which was nice. I ordered Frank's combo, with eggs, hashbrowns, dollar pancakes (with huckleberries), and sausage, it also came with toast or an English muffin, I chose the latter, with gravy on the side. Our food came very quickly, the waitress was very friendly. They forgot huckleberries on my pancakes (which are an extra cost) so she brought me a side dish of them to put on top - they were very cold but better than no huckleberries! I noticed after digging in that the side of gravy was stone cold, tasty - but cold. So, I asked her if she could get it warmed up. She said "our gravy is hot" and I told her that mine was definitely cold! But, she obliged and happily got me a new one, which was luke-warm, not hot, but acceptable. My eggs were a little runny in the whites, I do like a runny yolk, but the whites were a bit slimy, which was a little off-putting, but there was so much food I ate around that and went on to the next item - the hashbrowns. Let me tell you, the place alone is worth going to for these hashbrowns. They don't seem like anything special but they were the best hashbrowns I ever had, which is why I gave my review 3 stars instead of 2. My 2 "jumbo sausage links" were very big, but they just didn't have a good texture, I chomped down on several hard bits and gristly bits, so I didn't end up eating those (did bring them home for the dog though, he says they were delicious and I'm crazy!) The English muffin was great and the pancakes were very tasty. Overall, I am sad to admit that I have had better breakfasts at Shari's or Denny's diners - the one thing that sets this place apart is the atmosphere, it's so cool to eat inside of a train car, it's immaculate inside, roomier than you'd think, and very comfortable. I can see the appeal, though if I ever try again I may just order a plate of hashbrowns with the added fixins and I'd be happy with that! read more

The food at Frank's Diner is incredible! My boyfriend and I came to Spokane to visit my grandma from San Diego. While searching for amazing spots in Spokane I came across Frank's Diner on Pinterest, and I knew I had to try it out since my dad has a Great Northern model train railroad. When we got to Frank's my grandma told me that they make their own turkey, and that she only goes for the turkey. So, my boyfriend and I shared a turkey club with fries and I don't know if it was just because we were so hungry from our plane trip up, but it was one of the BEST turkey sandwiches that I have had! So fresh! It was like having a turkey sandwich the day after Thanksgiving! The fries were hands down the best fries!! It must be those Idaho potatoes or something! Super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Wish we had those in California. I should get they shipped or something! Anyways! Thanks for an amazing lunch Frank's Diner! We ordered 2 meals, nothing extravagant. If it's going to be an hour or so wait that's fine, I can choose to wait or not. When I was moving to Spokane 3 years ago, my boss told me to check out Frank's Diner. It took me almost 2 years to get around to it, and I'm sorry it did! The first time we went, we ordered several things to share, and one of those things is the blueberry muffin French toast. It was like dessert for breakfast and super indulgent. I would order it again as something to share but I want more substantive food for a meal. I have had several omelettes there and they are by far the best omelette I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. They are huge in size and the eggs are cooked perfectly. Great place! We've gone to the Frank's downtown on previous trips and were thrilled to find there was one close to our hotel during this stay. We have 4 young children and knew seating might be tough. And it was. But no one made us feel bad about taking up two booths. We had our two oldest sit at one of the small booths and we sat directly across from them with the younger two kids. The food was great, as always. My husband had the meatloaf Benedict and it was delish. I had the fried green tomatoes with eggs. It was CRAZY good. Probably one of the best breakfast dishes I've ever had.
