The only thing stopping me from giving them five stars was that they made my father in law exit the door we came in and walk around the building to go in another door so they could seat us in a separate room because he had his service dog. Went there on a flyer a couple of days ago, and was not disappointed. The food is fresh, divers, original at times, very tasty and ample. My daughter had the vegies bistro omelette with a side order of what appeared to be very good home-made sausages, and I had the ham and cheese omelette, both very good. Especially the egg quality, as one could tell that the eggs were correctly whisked to the proper consistency prior to preparation in the pan. The hash browns, were not too fatty or salty, but were very rich in flavor. We had about a 1/2 hour wait, but that was apparently to be expected on a late Sunday morning. Would have preferred to have been here on a summer day to wait outside when it's nice rather than inside in more cramped quarters in freezing November. Interior ambience is more than what you'd expect from an historic train car converted to restaurant, it's very well appointed, well-cared for in the historic sense, and a very attractive setting for a tasty meal. About the only non-commendable thing I'd have to mention, is that not sure how well staffed they may be (or at least at the time of our visit...). The wait and concierge staff we encountered were very friendly attentive, and we got our food in a very reasonable time after ordering. However, while we (and quite a group behind us....) were waiting, we noted both some empty tables and counterseating that after becoming vacant, took some time to become eventually prepared for the next set of diners. With that large a crowd waiting and with the $'s to be had from taking their orders, one would be led to think that they'd want to jump on getting the next group into seating as quickly as possible. Still, the next time I'm ever in Spokane for a breakfast/brunch, I'll make the effort to come back, (as long as I'm not pressed for time in my travels....). read more

Chicken Fried Steak with Hashbrowns and Eggs: Cheese as a topping over the Hashbrowns cost $1.25! And the steak was overcooked. Service was average. This was the first time I've ever been to Frank's, and it will definitely not be the last either! The food and service was great. I had the spicy creole omelet with hashbrowns, and it was the best decision I ever made. I normally don't eat omelets with seafood in it, but the lobster gave it a great flavor. Every single bite was just bursting with flavor. It also came with a biscuit, and I'll give you a tip... order a side of gravy, and you won't regret it. The mimosas are delightful too. Frank's Diner on 2nd street is a Spokane institution and I was pleased to see one would be coming up north. After the initial opening, service and food was an exact replica of the first location, however after eating there recently I can say it has gone downhill and I am not sure I am prepared to go back. We walked in and were seated promptly, but the server seemed really distracted, possibly because he was the only server in the joint. We were able to order in a timely manner, and the food came pretty quick, but also with the addition of some wine that the table behind us had ordered. Without any help from the server, and after a minute or two or thorough confusion as to how we ended up with free wine, we corrected the problem. When we did mention the mix up, the server didn't seem to care much. When our real order arrived the quality was just so-so; the chowder in the bread bowl my wife ordered tasted like it was out of a can and was almost as thick as gravy, also the bread bowl was a little stale. My club sandwich was good enough, but I felt it was rather small for the price I had paid given the average quality. Overall I suppose it was an average diner experience, but having been to the original Frank's several times, my expectations for this one were high. If you are looking for a cozy little place with a pleasant atmosphere I could recommend Frank's, but if you can drive a little further up the road there are dozens of alternatives that might be a better experience. read more

And yes, there is almost always a wait, but that's just because they serve such a delectable menu. I usually eat breakfast there, no matter what time of day I arrive. I can highly recommend the seafood omelette; it really is packed with seafood! While it's not the healthiest selection, I love the hash browns smothered in onions and gravy. Oh, and it's the only place I know of that serves cherry jelly with the toast or biscuits. The pancakes are always delicious and the fried green tomatoes are reminiscent of when I lived in the south. Frankly, Frank's Diner is the best diner in all of Spokane. The management is great. Ladona at the North side always personally greets me and my fiance whenever we come in. The cooks always make us laugh and smile and make the food just the way we like it. The servers are prompt and extremely kind to all patrons. I even had a question once about how they are able to perform at such high levels of efficiency and less than two days later I got a call from the owner saying he would be willing to chat with me! I can not stress how much of a loyal fan and customer of Frank's my fiance and I are and how they have our business for life.
