First the ambiance, it's inside of an old rail car. Look around and you see signs warning that people caught spitting on the platform or between cars are subject to a $500 fine and/or one year in jail. It's narrow so there's approx 4 booths for 4 people and 4 booths for 2 people. There's a counter in the front seats approx 10. We sat at the counter and saw the 2 cooks prepare all the meals and honestly not a single item looked bad. I opted for the meatloaf dinner and it didn't disappoint. My wife picked the turkey pot pie in a bread bowl which I sampled and it was very tasty. One item you have to pick is the biscuit. Bread comes with the meals but pick the biscuit. It's a home made biscuit that they cut butter then stick it on the flat top. That melts the butter into the biscuit then seals all hat flavor in. They were simply Devine. Oh and the portions were large so if your not hungry they'll give you a half sized portion on most dinners for a discount. read more

Growing up on Long Island and living in MT for the last 12 years had made me miss diners so much. My husband and I went here one morning, and have been here 2 more times since! Their food and service are amazing! The service staff is cordial and accommodating--giving me real cream for my coffee whenever I ask for it. I absolutely love their corned beef hash! It's not greasy at all, tastes homemade and you can really taste the spices in it--especially clove. They are beyond excellent! Everything tastes so fresh and delicious! My wife and I went here for brunch today (one on the North side). We went around 1:30 PM on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy. We were immediately met at the door and were met by our waitress for water and coffee right away. Everyone was nice and friendly. My wife had a BLT and fries. I had an omelette with hash browns and a muffin. The omelette was huge, hash browns were VG not oily, and the muffin was homemade and tasted excellent. All and all this is one of the better places in Spokane for breakfast. It is not one of the cheapest...high on the cost, but you get a lot of food. It's much better than the chains. Ate here this morning. The food is great, and the service was excellent in a cozy old train car. I had the Derailer (not the drink) for breakfast. Took my family in for dinner after overlooking the positive reviews. I had high hopes and was really disappointed. The server was a sweetheart and had a very good vibe. I took my family of 6 and me an my son ordered the breakfast burger. Terrible the bun was sour dough witch isn't specified on the menu bacon was like peanut brittle. Potato salad was sour tasting. My wife ordered the chicken and waffle she loved the waffle but the chicken was super chewy the breading just fell off. 2 out of 5 stars would have put one start but the server was awesome. 87 bucks spent on food and probably eat 20 of it. So in total $100 including tip to server and that will be the one and only time I go to this restaurant. read more

Last December, my boyfriend suggested we go to Frank's Diner for breakfast. I had the waffles and bacon and he had the French toast, hash browns and bacon. The meal was fantastic. High quality food and great service. The coffee is rich, hot and delicious. When we were getting ready to leave, my boyfriend realized he had misplaced his wallet and so he drove back to my house to retrieve it. The waitress was really wonderful and one of the cooks even offered to pay for our meal. I was embarrassed but so thankful that they were understanding. 30 minutes later, he was back with the money and we happily left knowing we would be returning soon. Brilliant! read more

Went in for a quick bite and was happy to find one the best cheeseburgers I have found outside of home. Hand-formed patty, cheddar cheese, thick bacon. So good. And undoubtedly the best milkshake I have ever had. Made of hard ice-cream, I had the strawberry, and it came out looking like the diner classic it is, icy glass, tons of whipped cream, a drizzle of strawberry sauce, and enough in mixing cup to fill the glass nearly twice more.
