Always amazing, tasty treats. Shop is managed well, store is super clean, staff is pleasant.

Came for the Paris Brest because Great British Bake Off. Exceeded expectations, which were very high because y'all seem to love this place. I get it. Deserved. Also got a plain croissant, almond croissant, pain au chocolate, and morning bun. All really top notch. Service was friendly and efficient. Loved that the server showed me the order to make sure it was right before fulfilling. Smart! read more

Really nice morning pastry/sweets selection! I appreciate that they were all warm when served to me. The plain croissant is good, I've had better in the bay but I will say their ham and egg croissant was the star. Also great morning bun! Employees were all nice, definitely one of the best pastry places in the Elmwood/College Ave area. read more

This review is for both food and service FOOD: I am really disappointed that a highly recommend pastry shop like this has such low standards of higine. There was a strand of HAIR in one of the pastry we bought. We took 2 pastries, 1 cookie and a loaf of bread. Except for the bread everything else tased pretty okay. SERVICE: The minute we walked in the person (I am going to refer to as person as I have not confirmed she/he/they gender. The person is tall with glasses) who was available to help us was not at all welcoming, showed no internet in taking our order and Even while we were asking questions the person came across rude and disinterested. Never felt this unwelcomed at a place. The person could b having a bad day but just the wine we got was disappointing. read more

Delicious pastries, especially the one with ham and egg in it. The pastry is flaky and buttery and it's perfectly seasoned. The last time my partner brought one for me, I wasn't hungry in the slightest--I'm talking, just ate a massive meal and am so full even commercials of food make me feel sick--but you better believe my appetite came back once I took a bite. read more

I feel myself getting more sophisticated visiting bakeries like this. I mean, c'mon, Valrhona? For the uncultured swine such as myself, it's premium chocolate from a wine-growing district in France. I had to google that shizz when I saw it in the pastry case. I wasn't about to look like a fool and ask what that was. But seriously, this place is awesome. Can't go wrong with whatever you get. I'm coming back for those ham + egg croissants. Plural. I want multiple. They look amaze. What my cuzzie and I got this time around were the *Valrhona* chocolate caramel tart ($5.50). So light and airy. Like a chocolate cloud if that were a thing and you could eat it. I was also a fan of the crust, which was on the thick side so it takes a heavy duty fork to break through or some extra muscle. I'd just bite into it if I wasn't sharing it with my cousin. We also ordered this Gougere manchego (Spanish) cheese puff with herbs ($2.25). Not as impressive as the tart but still tasty. The tart is a tough act to follow. Because we followed up brunch with this place, we didn't go all out, but next visit, I'll go to town, perhaps to Valrhona. read more

Wish I knew about this place earlier! Fournee is tucked into this little corner street close to Berkeley, but the charming avenue has shops and restaurants with bustling activity. On a Sunday morning, the line was long but went by fast! I loved the pain Au chocolat the most, the crispy flaky pastry is best eaten fresh! There are also benches nearby to enjoy your treats and some fresh air. I also liked the canele, it has a deep almost smoky flavor to it that was delicious. The almond croissant and scone were also good, but didn't stand out as much as the other two. Will be back! read more

Best croissants ever!!!! Don't be daunted by the line out the door. It moves quickly and once inside, it is absolutely worth the wait. Croissants, pastries, tarte tatinand beautiful loaves of bread that make your mouth water, and are soooo wonderful! Run, don't walk before they sell out for the day! read more

The pastries here are delightful! Always fresh, and the croissants are buttery, flaky, and fluffy. The breads are also delicious and hearty. I enjoy the chocolate cake, it's decadent, moist, and rich with chocolate flavor. The seasonal changes are lovely, and the bakery has warm friendly staff, and ambiance. It's not a place to dine in, I just get my pastries to go. On weekends, there is always a line out the door, weekdays are less busy. read more

What a hidden gem. Was staying at the Claremont hotel up the street and wanted to venture outside of the resort for less than $6 croissants. Found this place down the hill and had the most buttery French croissants and goodies. Came back the next day with parents, buying as much as I could. Will most definitely come back. The line wait varies. First day around 10am on Thursday, was 4 parties deep. Saturday 9am 7 people ahead. Still worth it. read more

Buying bread in the Bay Area is both a very privileged and frustrating experience. Do we have access to incredible bakeries? Yes. But do also have an addiction to forming lines and simultaneously suffering from amnesia when it comes to remembering the order you wanted to make when it's your turn at the counter? Also yes. That being said, there is one bread line in the East bay that reigns above them all. And that's the one forming at Fournée. Buy yourself any half loaf and accompany it with any of the pastry bakes. Just dumbly point at any of them. It doesn't matter. They're all amazing. Pay and move on. read more

I've been here 8 or 9 times now, so this review is overdue. Cons: always a line! But that comes with the list of reasons, and more, below... Pros: -everything is so fresh -wide selection of goodies -the scones!! To die for!! -ham and cheese croissant - best I've had -quiche - light and flaky -once you are inside, service is fast and friendly I want to try everything and will keep coming back until i accomplish this! read more

I like the pecan slice I had but other than that their scones and croissants are a bit dry.

Fournee is my favorite East Bay bakery! They have savory and sweet croissants, scones, and rustic loaves of bread that instantly elevate any morning. The quality and selection are unmatched in this area and they often have seasonal flavors and special holiday items (panettone, pumpkin pies, yule logs, etc.) that you can pre-order. The long lines are worth the wait and even if you see the line to the end of the block, it's usually around 20 minutes. I wish they allowed you to order online instead of calling, but if you call ahead you can pre-order and skip the line when picking up. FAVORITES: Ham and egg croissant (most unique croissant offering!) Ham and cheese croissant Chocolate almond croissant Meyer lemon scone Olive bread loaf During my last visit though, I bought a big box of pastries and they forgot to add one of the croissants I paid for, so I recommend double checking your order before leaving. I'm sure it doesn't happen often though and was a mistake. Still looking forward to my next visit! read more

Beware of the long line on weekends. We came in on a Saturday at around 1pm and had to wait around 20-30 minutes to order and get our pastries. And there were some pastries that were already sold out at that time. Is it worth the wait? I would say yes. We got the almond chocolate croissant, ham cheese croissant, and veggie quiche. My favorite was the ham cheese croissant, the ham was really really good, every bite was so satisfying. It is on par with the famous ham&cheese croissant from Arsicault in SF. The other items were also really good! read more

Holy cow. What the???? We ordered 2 ham and egg croissants and a canele but it didn't make it in the bag :( The croissants are out of this world good. I wish they were warm and they would've melted in my mouth. Service wasn't the greatest but it's ok. It's a one stop shop with 2 customers at a time inside. read more

Disclaimer: We tried one thing on the menu...the ham, egg, and cheese croissant. We were in the East Bay and I had an urge for a savory croissant. Fournee showed up on our yelp search and we jetted over with the quickness. With just a few people in front of us, the line went quickly. 2 HEC croissants, please? We walked to a park nearby and devoured our way through this deliciousness. Would've been a thousand times better warm but still amazing cold. This kinda reminded me of the rebel within from craftsman and wolves but don't get me wrong...definitely in their own worlds. I'd love to go back and try some of their other menu items but I'd walk away with this croissant every single time. Street parking only. 2 people allowed inside at a time. Enjoy. read more

Excellent!!! Bread and I have a special bond, more like a one sided love! Hence its an absolute joy to discover a hidden gem where bread is the star. Fournée is truly fantastic, tucked away in a very charming pocket of berkeley overlooking the stunning Claremont hotel. It is a small space and does not have seating inside. To go is absolutely the way to go because there is a lovely green patio located adjacent to the bakery. You will see lots if people lounging and enjoying the weather here! The bakery has a wide selection of heavenly treats and I must say everything looks AMAZING always ! I tried the plain croissant which is flaky and is just buttered goodness. Not heavy 12/10. The gruyere cheese bun is divine too 10/10 as it has a great balance of flavour and texture. The ham and egg croissant 11/10 is just the perfect marriage of all the ingredients in it. The pastry is flaky, the ham well seasoned and the egg inside is boiled to perfection. This is a great breakfast pick up as its packed with deliciousness that will fill you up. Its not overly heavy which makes it even better! As you can tell I'm a fan :) The coffee here is pretty good too 10/10 and that for me is worth the 6th star ! The staff is very friendly and polite, the space is lovely and the whole experience is great! Great value for money and great quality of the food. I highly recommend a visit! Note - Parking around the bakery is hard to find so plan to walk a block or two. Also the good stuff sells out soon so go early ( before noon ideally) read more

**Covid Review** Coming to the bakery they had a nice line out the shop. There were markings on the ground so everyone knew where to stand and be spaced out 6ft apart. The store also only allowed two people in at a time. I was nice that the menu was posted on the window because it was easy to see what the options were as I was waiting to go inside and order. There were so many options to choose from so I didn't feel rushed once inside to pick. Oh boy, as you enter the store the smell of baked bread and treats hits you. It makes you want to buy every item on that menu. It smells delicious and the items displayed and what you could see in the back looked delicious. I was so excited to order. I ended up getting a chocolate croissant and an olive loaf. My oh my I ate the entire croissant on my way home. It was so buttery and flaky, they used dark chocolate so it really complemented well. Delicious. The olive bread was my sisters pick. I was a little nervous about it but my goodness was it tasty. They use kalamata olives and not just the black ones that come out of a can. So overall the bread was very tasty. I definitely will be back to try more treats! read more

Decided to treat myself after finals so picked up some pastries for my friends and I. Of course there was a line formed outside but I am glad they were enforcing social distancing guidelines by allowing only 2 people in store at a time. I came on a Friday morning at around 8:50 AM and waited for about 15 minutes! There was about 10 people ahead of me. I got the traditional croissant and medium roast coffee. I've been to Paris last year and had phenomenal croissants but I will say that Fournée does a great job at making the croissants light, buttery, crispy, and flaky. The outside is crispy and the inside is super fluffy and soft. It doesn't feel too dense and has a perfect balance of butteriness to the croissant. The coffee also paired well with this! Another time I came - I tried the ham & manchego cheese croissant and it has become my favorite even though I generally don't like ham. It's a perfect addition of savoriness to the croissant!! My friend got the ham, egg, cheese croissant. I would recommend this for someone who likes more savory (since there is ham layered on top & an egg in the middle) pastries. You'll find street parking usually or on the weekends some may double park while waiting. read more

A cute French bakery sits near Rick and Ann's brunch spot in Berkeley. They have a nice selection of pastries, breads, desserts, and even saw they have pizza. After watching some episodes of the British Baking tv show, I got a hankering for some yummy flaky buttery pastries so I headed over. The line was out the door but was manageable. It smelled delicious in the bakery and the pastries were all smiling at me. I didn't plan on getting a sandwich but somehow I was telling the cashier that I wanted a turkey bacon aioli on pan au lait with an almond croissant and a chocolate croissant. ‍ Good thing the pressure of the line limited me to a few things. I was so curious about the sandwich that right after paying, I unwrapped it and took a huge bite. Delicious! The soft milk bread paired perfectly with the premium turkey and salty smoked bacon- the aioli notes gave a nice finish. The almond croissant was good but I like Arsicault Bakery in SF better. All in all- yes I'd come back. I wanna try their pizza too! read more

Wow. I stopped at this bakery today for the first time, and I was very happy. I arrived late at around 3 PM. Which means that most of the pastries have been sold for the day. However I was still able to buy four almond croissants and one scone. The almond croissant was superb. Simply outstanding. Buttery, flaky, and delicious. I will have to come to this bakery again, but early in the day so that I can try more more things. read more

We rolled in for our first time at Fournee around 2:30 on a Saturday, not expecting much in terms of selection. Fortunately, there were still loaves of bread (including olive, grits/sesame seeds), croissants, eclairs, fruit tarts, cake slices and whole cakes/ tarts left. We went a little hog wild... Croissant was one of the better ones I've seen in bakeries around Oakland - flaky and crispy Fruit tart with blackberries and figs was just ok. The cream filling and fruit were great, but the crust is not a shortbread or flaky pastry but something like a ginger cookie. It was a little heavy for what I want out of a fruit tart. Eclair was pretty standard and a little soggy given it was later in the day. The choux craquelin was exceptional. The puff pastry was filled with a delicate cream custard, chocolate, toffee(!!) and some kind of caramelly cream. read more

Waking up early on a Saturday means getting my baked good fixes before the lines are out the door. Fournee Bakery is right next to Rick and Annes and across the Claremont hotel so this bakery is a local favorite. If you wake up early enough, head on over to grab one of their bacon, egg, and cheese croissants! These babies are not the usual croissant but are actually muffin shaped. Eating it can get a little messy since the croissant is so flaky but it's well worth to get that perfect bite of the bacon on the outside and the egg on the inside. I have to admit that my fave thing to get is their ham & manchego cheese croissants! They're just as savory as the option above but it's a bit easier to eat and the manchego pairs well with the ham. If you're looking more on the sweets, their almond/chocolate croissants are the way to go. They have that nice chocolate filling but the top of the croissant is almost like an almond cookie so it's denser and a different texture contrast. If the above are not your fave, they also serve quiches, baguettes, cakes, tarts, and after 11AM they also serve seasonal sandwiches and pizza. Not much seating here so you'll likely have to take your goods to go unless you grad their tables or one of their benches. read more

The Ham and Manchego Croissant is delicious and even better when it's freshly made. The first time I got this it was warm and was oh so amazing! This time it was more room temp. They don't toast pastries when you purchase which is the only downside but it's still good regardless. The croissant has a nice crisp and is buttered the right amount (not dry). Ham and Manchego inside tasted good! You don't get a ton but it has a sharp taste so the amount given is enough. Good for a snack don't expect to get full off this. It's definitely more for taste. The line may look long but it goes by quickly. If you're debating just bite the bullet and wait in it, you won't regret it! read more

*** In Short *** Excellent little bakery with a huge array of offerings. *** In Depth *** Hitting up a bakery is really not the same thing when you're just looking at a text menu online, and not taking in all the visual and olfactory cues, but such is shopping in the time of COVID. That's not to say the bakery isn't open for walk-ins, because it is! However, for those of us in high risk groups, (or those who don't want to risk certain things selling out), Fournee has also supported phone orders, as long as they're placed a day or more in advance, so you can quickly pop in and out. I was there more to try their breads than anything else, but as if I could resist picking up a few pastries as well. While everything I got was enjoyable, the two items that really stood out to me were their fruit scone, and their olive bread, both of which I'd recommend trying. The latter is pretty different from the one Acme offers, being a bit denser, moister, and more olive-y, for those who enjoy the flavor. read more

This is a really good bakery: they take the Covid precautions seriously and the lines outside are the testament for the quality of the products. I will report here on one of the best breads I have had in a while. It is the walnut bread ! It is made with Sourdough levain with walnuts and We bought the whole loaf. It was so good : I ate it in the morning simply with butter and strawberry jam and at lunch with ham as a different version of jambon beurre sur baguette. Even after several days in a ziplock bag, it was still fluffy and delicious ! What a great bakery ! read more

I brought a box of pastries back home, and they were a big hit with my family! Once my mom had a bite, her face lit up and my sister and her had a fight over who gets the crossaint. (If it got your mom's seal of approval- you know it's good!) I can't recommend this place enough to anyone who's looking for great quality bread or pastries. It's been a weekend routine to swing by this place to get some items, and the top baked goods I'd like to recommend are their olive bread, traditional crossaints, and ham and manchego cheese crossaints! They pastries are so flaky with a nice crunch on the outside, yet with a fluffy soft buttery inside. You can see the many layers and see that quality and care went into creating these goodies. I wasn't quite as much of a fan of their pizza- it wasn't bad but this bakery has better offerings! There's usually a line to get into the bakery (currently 2 customers inside at a time due to COVID,) but the staff is pretty efficient and the line moves steadily enough. read more

BEST BAKERY IN THE BAY AREA. I would give this more than 5 stars if possible. I live far away but it's WORTH the drive. You need to try every single pastry here. Flaky, buttery, amazing.
