This has been my go-to place for a very long time. I've always loved the peppercorn burger and turkey club sandwich. The service and ambiance are great. Actually, I've not had a bad experience...until this past weekend. I brought my family for an early Mother's Day dinner. All were from out-of-town so I chose a place I could count on. Sadly, Four Winds let me down. Service and ambiance were perfect. The food was not. Half of the meals served were over-cooked and some were actually inedible. I was mortified that I had my family drive 1.5 hours only to pay for a disappointing meal, half of which was left behind. On a good note, the desserts were delicious and devoured! So I'm awarding four stars...two for service, one for ambiance, one for the desserts, but none for entrees. When I go back (and I certainly will), I'll stick to the burgers and sandwiches. read more

Let me start by saying this is my favorite pub restaurant at the Jersey shore with a great broad menu, a good bar and a professional wait staff. I eat here regular and often give it 4s or 5s but even a good restaurant can have a bad night and this it's. We have our favorites on the menu but today decided to try some things different. I chose the Sunday night turkey dinner but the turkey was tasteless and looked it was Boars Head cold cuts just nuked and covered with turkey gravy. My father tried the stuffed shrimp. Those supposedly stuffed with crab meat, the stuffing didn't taste of crab at all and could have just been wet white bread. In the end, a completely disappointing meal especially as their prices have been creeping up. Driving through with my husband and we were looking for a quick bite. Was reluctant because this place had 3 stars but my husband reminded me that some of our fave places have 3 stars! We were pleasantly surprised with our dinner, and my husband can be a tough critic. We split fish tacos and a Swiss burger with sautéed onions. I usually don't like breaded fish for my tacos, but this coating was crispy, flavorful, and not too thick. The sauce on top of the tacos was great. And the burger had that good chargrilled taste, with a nice bun. Delicious fries and I got a horseradish cream sauce to dip them in. We sat at the bar and had attentive service. Our first time here. The food was very good but large portions (prime rib was 20 oz- $48). Our issue was that the tables were very close together, people running by us all meal long and it was loud. We had a reservation at 6:30 on a Saturday and had to wait 15 minutes to be seated as the place was packed! We'll try another time when it might be less crowded. read more

So disappointed. I've been coming to Four Winds My whole life and last night meal was very disappointing. Service was ok I did at times Feel like the waiter was annoyed. The place was empty! One of the things that is great about Four Winds is ambiance. The fireplace wasn't on and i felt like i was sitting in Times Square with the red light beaming on me. My recent visit to Four Winds Restaurant was easily the worst dining experience of my life. ​The Food ​We ordered a steak and a burger. Both arrived completely gray and flavorless. It turns out they use zero seasoning--no salt, no pepper, nothing. Even worse, the taste of the meat was tainted by what I can only describe as a "dirty" flavor; it's clear the grill hasn't been properly scraped or cleaned in years. ​The Management ​When we politely brought the lack of seasoning to the manager's attention, things went from bad to worse. Instead of an apology, she told us they simply don't season their meat. She then became incredibly hostile and elitist, telling us we should go eat at Applebee's and literally calling us "white trash." When she realized she had crossed a line, she tried to awkwardly "flirt" her way out of the situation to avoid accountability. When that didn't work, she refused to take the inedible food off the bill and told us to get out. ​The Facility ​As a military veteran and retired police officer, I have a high standard for conduct and public safety. This place fails both. The bathrooms were absolutely vile and clearly haven't been scrubbed in ages. ​Final Verdict ​The level of disrespect shown to customers--especially to those who have served--is appalling. First, the waitress seemed completely uninterested in doing her job--rushed us through our order, barely checked in, and acted like we were inconveniencing her. Not exactly the welcoming experience you'd hope for. The ambience? Bizarre. The entire place was bathed in an unnatural red light that made it feel more like a horror movie set than a steakhouse. Not exactly appetizing. I ordered a burger medium rare, and what I got was basically still mooing--borderline raw in the center. It was unappetizing and unsafe. As for the $50 ribeye? Total waste. These low reviews are weak and outdated. This place is as old school as it gets in the Jersey area for steakhouses and the prime rib can't be beat. Recently went for a late lunch early dinner , not only was our food not edible because it tasted like nothing but deep burnt Char-grill , but beautiful pieces of meat ruined by the lousy cook and grill. To make it better the manager and the bartender continued to argue with us that Nothing was wrong, claiming it's the first time anyone's complained about the steak , well clearly it's not based on the reviews.. In a customer service business your goal is to make sure people are happy and not draw negative reviews. At the 35 yrs I've spent in a customer based business it was our practice to make sure everyone was happy, regardless of our personal feelings. Now based on the amount of people NOT in there , and the previous /recent bad reviews of poorly cooked food, especially steaks , (read for yourselves) plus several clients of my own who recently told me their similar stories, they should be looking to keep customers , not argue with them. The salad had hardly anything in just some lettuce a couple of carrots and one little tomato. Asked for nothing to be on my steak because of allergies had to send it back then they brought me a new steak which was somewhat better, but they are not getting great cuts of meat. My friend's steak was over cooked, so she had to send that back then it come bleeding on her plate they really don't know how to cook steak and my other friends' ribs were really not good. Very disappointed the quality of food has gone way down, and the prices have gone way up. No wonder why the restaurant was most of the way empty and this is more than likely why. I died and went to heaven, and when I landed I was at the Four Winds Restaurant. The service by our waitress Brenna was over the top, very attentive and made the experience much better. To start we ordered a round of Freshly brewed iced out teas to complement the nachos we ordered. Do be warned the salsa comes on the nachos and it comes on heavy. It seemed like we ordered salsa with a side of nachos, nonetheless they were delicious. I ordered the 16 ounce ribeye which was by far one of the most flavorful cuts of meat I have ever had the chances of eating. I can highly recommend it to the upmost regard. But by far the best thing that I tasted was the Mash, it was buttery, but not too buttery, just the best. The person I was with ordered the Special Pot Roast which they said was "very good". We ordered takeout for a special birthday dinner and everything was amazing. The prime rib was tender and juicy and the horseradish sauce was incredibly delicious. The boneless wings were nice and crispy. Not pictures are the fried mushrooms and chili which we scarfed down too quickly for a photo. The staff seemed friendly and experienced. I was only inside a few minutes while they brought my order out but all the patrons looked extra happy so I'm guessing all the food is tasty. Definitely a place for an older crowd. I was hopeful because it was really busy and there are some real gems in beach towns during the off season and I thought that this would be the case here. We waited around 25 minutes on a busy Friday night, which doesn't bother me. There were some older women that came in after us and knew the person playing the live music. A third inebriated woman came over who had already been here and harassed the hostess until she pushed another table to connect to hers when the patrons were done... The staff was really appreciative and thankful of our waiting patiently (party of 2) They didn't have fresh oysters, only available fried. Usually when I see that I worry about the quality of seafood. However, the fried calamari was good, not oily or over fried. We got the wasabi and miso sauce one (there was also a plain fried one) and it wasn't a great sauce - pretty sweet, and the wasabi sauce around the lip of the bowl was not very spicy. I got nachos, only option is beef chili. There was no shortage of them, it is a lot of nachos, but they were soggy and just not very good nachos. Boyfriend ordered a crab cake burger he did not finish, it was huge and said the flavor just was not great. He ate the huge onion ring that came with it though. 2 glasses of wine and 2 beers plus the meals mentioned above $82 before tax and tip. Decently priced, I just wish the quality of food had been better. There was outdoor dining as well, but it was a chilly night so we waited to sit inside. Prime rib and ribeyes are phenomenal. Probably the best I've ever had anywhere. Prices aren't terrible for the quality of what you get. My only (small) complaint is that some tables are quite shaky.
