This establishment is exceptionally generous!! From the portions of food, to the wait staff, to management to helping the furloughed employees, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I went because my husband is active duty coast guard and harbor side offered a free meal to government employees. Although my husband is deployed at the moment, they still took in me and my three children with open arms. Our waitress was so kind to my children. She even walked my son to the bathroom so I can eat. . The manager came by to say thanks for our service. The food was delicious. We will be returning as paying customers one day. We promise. We finally had dinner at Harborside Grill after passing this place on various ocassions at the expense of the Wine Bar and Gaslight which are at close proximity. It was a hot summer evening and we decided to sit in their outdoor space which takes the form of a roomy covered porch, cooled by ceiling fans. We chose a table facing and having views to 1st Avenue and parking lot; an excellent choice if it was not for the distraction of having to shoo away flies! The service during our visit was lacking, there were extended period of time between orders without visible serving staff around. The food was also disappointing. I had Chardonnay Steamed Mussels as an appetizer which were quite good, however could not enjoy it to the fullest since no bread was place on table to enjoy the sauce that accompanied them. For my entree, I had the Asian Tuna, a dish that was well presented and tuna cooked to my liking, however it was drowned in sauces and sides that diminished the dish; way too much going on! We passed on dessert and will probably pass on this restaurant next time! read more

I've never made a complaint or left a review on a restaurant before. I'm usually extremely patient with servers. We waited over 2 hours to get 2 salads and when they came out they were not even close to what we ordered. When I made this aware to the bartender she had the nastiest attitude I've seen from anybody working in service. She denied giving us our food which was 2 salads and should not take 2 hours to make and kept rolling her eyes instead of being understanding. Asked to speak to manager and was getting ignored for 10 minutes. Another waitress ended up helping us out and she was understanding and eventually got us the food we ordered. The food was decent but the bartender is one of the nastiest people I have spoken with. Would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. Decent food. Worst service i've ever seen. No frills, local place. It's always pretty good and the service has always been pretty great. It's a larger dining area and we've never had to wait for a seat. They have a great kids menu too. The food is always solid, the chicken rollitini is surprisingly good, the risotto served with it is amazing. The meatballs are also very good, we've tried them with our girls pasta. They've recently revamped their menu and removed the Italian sausage sandwich, I do miss that. The other sandwiches are pretty good. The burger is ok, fries are extra but the macaroni salad is good. The downside here is the bar side, sometimes the crowd is, interesting. We've seen people so drunk they're smacking each other in the parking lot, one guy had his pants down while his buddy and girlfriend tried to pull them up. The bar side seems like a totally different place, not as clean and just different. There's also the patio where people can smoke, etc. so we try to go before that crowd arrives. Overall, a great option in town for a meal before some of the drunken crowd roll in. read more

Had to write this review as soon as possible. I LOVED my first experience at Harborside Grill. The ambiance is adorable and the main drag in Atlantic Highlands is great. The inside was both cozy and modern. Our waitress was wonderful and made us feel really welcome. I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with arugula and pesto - it was wonderful! The perfect portion and so well cooked. Everyone I was with absolutely loved their meals. Prince was very reasonable also. The grilled vegetables had charred little black pieces mixed in and they where not worth the fight picking them out. Now the place overall was dirty. Table never got wiped down nor did the seats. 3 appetizers plates and silverware looked like they were just used. Even the pepper shaker had crumbs on it. First time here, summertime, weekday w/friends. There is off-street parking. Harborside Grill has had their ups & downs ratings in the past. We sat at the bar and were promptly greeted by a very friendly Katie. After looking through the menus, we noticed two patrons eating a bar pie. Wow, I thought that looks great, so all of us ordered pizza ....not too original but it proved to be a great choice. I had a local brewed IPA, also a good pick. We enjoyed various conversation amongst ourselves which eventually included Katie. Overall it was a pleasant first impression. This is my second time eating at this place with 2 years in between. The service is absolutely terrible. Three of us dined, and we only got one menu initially because a large party had taken most of the menus-- the place wasn't even filled to capacity. Took forever to get waitress service. Ordered the lobster bisque. Other two folks I was with ordered the soup of the day. They got theirs, and I was told it would be a wait to get the lobster bisque. They were done their soups and mine came out. The bisque, which is supposed to be creamy, was watery and there was minimal lobster in it. Bear in mind that a bowl of this is $13. I sent it back. We ordered crabcakes and clams casino for appetizers. The crabcakes were burnt. The clams casino are small tiny clams. The main course was good. Seared tuna. Healthy size portion. read more

Rare that I choose more than the average number of stars for a venue but had an enjoyable sidewalk (established--not Covid added (though there is currently a tent in the parking lot as well)) dining experience here and I figure this and any restaurant could use the good word of mouth about now. No bread on the table (in a restaurant with a significant enough Italian bent). Is this a virus thing or a sell warm pretzels thing? Had the unfortunately named tortellini Pope John and had to, as is so often the case as a vegetarian, ask to have an actual vegetable (artichoke hearts) added. Was an excellent dish as served and while the tomato cream sauce was very good, I don't understand why restaurants don't understand that vegetarian pasta options might be considerably more interesting and appetizing with, wait for it...vegetables... I don't recall the seafood entree my friend had but she was happy with it as well. Since we chose not to do appetizers and again there was no bread, we were both still a bit hungry after finishing our entrees and succumbed to the marketing strategy and ordered the warm pretzels. I don't like that I like this trend as much as I do... Pretzels don't speak as part of a meal to me. But there it is. Dissonance. Went for dinner on 2/22/23. Cannot recommend. Tables were not wiped clean. The artichoke in the crab dip was extremely "stringy". Long wait for main course. Sirloin steak scampi was ok. Crab cakes did not have any crab meat. And, sadly, we found a bug in the crab cake dish. Waiter refunded the money for the dinner. But will not go back. read more

Excellent dinner! Pork chop cut like butter and was amazingly tender. The chop was seasoned just right and the outer part of the chop had a little crust from searing it. The food has gotten a lot better this year. The baked clams are back to being really delicious and not overcooked. I also had a chicken Caesar wrap that was fantastic, which I know is really basic, but it's important for customers to be able to rely on a restaurant for that. This place is good if you know what you're getting into. In terms of feel, it's 70% working class neighborhood bar, 30% family dinner after a piano recital. According to the other reviews, don't order the steak. In my experience, ordering off the bar menu pages is the way to go, both in price and flavor. The sirloin wrap is awesome, the fish tacos are always good, and they have a good selection of beers for a place this size. My wife likes the penne vodka. This bar costs a fraction of what Gaslight does, and provides substantial plates of good food in a comfortable atmosphere. Just know that if you go in late enough in the evening there will be locals blasting terrible music on the jukebox and yelling at eachother about whatever the giants or eagles did last weekend. read more

Sorry for the late review. My family and ate here many times and we never had a bad meal. All their dishes are good and so are their drinks. I always order a glass of Chianti with my meals and they give you a full glass. Regardless what you order you cannot go wrong. The service is always good and friendly. I have eaten at the Harborside on a half of a dozen occasions including a few this year since outdoor dining has been allowed. There is sufficient capacity and plenty of spacing and the staff is as friendly as ever. Yesterday I had the broccoli, sausage and macaroni from the dinner menu but they gave me the lunch portion. If possible, it was better than ever, hot sausage light crisped, pasta cooked perfectly, tender broccoli rabe and a garlic butter sauce that tops it off perfectly.
