    Lobster Bisque
    Jennifer S.

Tried this place out for the 1st time last night. It was good. Was seated quick. Ate inside and it was cute. My husband got the lobster bisque soup. It was cold, but it was tasty. Of course it would have tasted better if it was hot. The brussel sprouts were very good! The lobster roll was ok and the shrimp wrapper weren't bad. I would go again. Our waitress didn't come around much at all though. That's really my only complaint

Server Rihanna was very nice. Tuna nachos and hush puppies on point. The whole reason I came there though, the hot lobster roll, was a disappointment. Pathetic small portion. Complained to server about it and she confirmed she's heard the same from other customers about the drop off in portion size over last few years. Probably going across the street to Atlantic for rolls going forward. And that missing bite in pic was mostly bread which actually tasted good.

Happy Valentine's Day !! Came around 12 on Valentine's Day! When we left there was a wait to sit. Waitresses were very kind and attentive. There is a to go area, bathroom, and then indoor seating area. They have merchandise behind the register. Started with the tuna nachos and crab rangoon mozzarella sticks. Tuna was good quality and had a good coating of sesame seeds. My perfect bite was tuna, orange sauce, seaweed, tomato, & onion. The chips were perfectly crispy. The crab rangoon was surprisingly good. This appetizer is what made me pick this place. Such a good combination. Didn't need the marinera sauce. Next up soups. Lobster bisque was ok. I guess I was expecting it to be a little more rich. But it was good, it tasted exactly like lobster and I got good chunks in the soup too. Now the shrimp and corn chowder was super flavorful. Favorite dish of the meal. For mains, cold lobster roll and two tails w butter and side salad. Side salad was well dressed and I appreciate the ribbons of Parmesan. The lobster was mostly cooked right. There was one that was a bit chewy. Added salt and butter but felt like something was missing still. I couldn't find a good combo of toppings to go with the lobster. The cold lobster roll was alright. The potato bread added a good sweet flavor that complimented the lobster. Overall a decent meal.

We visited on Friday for lunch with a party of three and it was a nice experience. We arrived and were seated right away, the dining area is relatively small and has garage type, roll down windows, which made it a little cold due to the nasty weather. We started with a few appetizers; oysters on the half shell, clam chowder, and lobster mac & cheese. All were quite fresh and tasty, the chowder was served luke warm. After that we went with warm lobster rolls. The rolls had portions of lobster chunks and were excellent. The service was great, the waitress kept up with our needs while the place filled up. Overall, an excellent place for seafood, a bit pricey.

Went on another date last night, Sunday September 7th. It is right on the wharf. It is a fish market with what seems like a small restaurant attached. There appeared to be some outside seating as well. It's right on the Manasquan River. You can catch a nice sunset there. I must say the fried calamari is the best I've ever had. It was lightly battered, not overcooked, very tender, couldn't ask for better. My date ordered it but I think I ate most of it! I usually never order this appetizer as it usually is not good. She also ordered the crab cake sandwich with fries, she seemed to really enjoy it. I had the seared salmon tacos off the specials menu. They were served with tortilla chips. The chips seemed homemade, a good side. My tacos were delicious. I don't usually like salmon in a fish taco, but the way they were dressed, the pico and red onion, the flavor and texture just worked perfectly. Our server was excellent as well. Will definitely be back!

So good! I devoured it within minutes haha. The lobster tasted fresh and flavorful and the bread was soft.

Been craving for lobster roll for a while and finally got to satisfied my cravings. The calamari was very fresh but could use more seasoning. The lobster roll was really fresh and juicy and I loved the sweet potato fries! My husband got the fish taco and said it was okay. The waitress was really nice and attentive. The staffs were all very friendly.

Owner awsome person ! Food great. Drinks great! LBeen coming to this restaurant many years and not once she has treated me me or my family kindly! It shameful be because the owner is a very nice person and caring about her customers! If people are unhappy with their lives or angry about things, they should not be in that position you dine out to have an experience and an enjoyment of your day or evening! Some people are more sensitive than others, but kindness is something that should be shown to everyone! Overall, it's a great restaurant and well run! Be nice. Yes nice!

If you are coming later in the season, I would try to reserve. First up -- some nice slices of warm crusty Italian bread and butter. I ordered a cocktail special - the Kelle Belle (or similar) which reminded me of a Pimm's cup. La Portena had her usual Riesling -- no complaints. Lobster bisque was one of the hits, the typical rich broth, with the not so typical actual lobster meat - small bits to be sure, but so often there is no lobster at all. We also shared a lobster roll as a starter - it was good but I would have preferred larger chunks of meat - the roll was accompanied by some tasty tortilla chips. Next up, a complimentary salad - this was fine. I ordered soft shell crabs - they were perfectly fried meaty specimens but the french fries and cole slaw seemed like afterthoughts- the plating was haphazard. La Portena's flounder stuffed with crabmeat was a better plate overall. Two fresh small filets, stuffed with a savory filling and some good mashed potatoes. The glass of New Zealand sauvignon blanc I chose to accompany the crab had the strongest grapefruit nose I have ever experienced. I know these always taste of grapefruit, but this wine was over the top. No room for dessert. Our server was warm and pleasant, and the entire experience transported me back to shore dinners with my parents in the 70s. I would return.

The restaurant itself was also clean and we had a beautiful view of the water with the docked boats. My meal came with a baked potato that I added some butter too and a side of mixed veggies which were also seasoned nicely. - Coconut Shrimp - These were the most perfect coconut shrimp. Each of the jumbo shrimp were battered in a generous amount of coconut flakes and fried to perfection. These shrimps were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The shrimp paired nicely with the sweet chili sauce on the side. The dish was also served with French fries which were nice and salty.

I started with a piña colada, and it was exactly what I needed on a hot day, cold, refreshing, and delicious. Next was the lobster bisque, which was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. For my entrée, I went with the lobster roll, and yummm... I loved it!
