We come here a lot, and really like the place, and they recently have expanded to outdoor seating. We went in and placed it to go order, fried calamari, a fried shrimp basket and a broiled fisherman's platter. The guy after us ordered the shrimp basket also. An hour and 15 minutes later, they were cleaning the kitchen we had asked about our order several times and we're told it was coming. We eventually just had to get a refund and left. There was a lot of staff there and nobody really was checking up and I understand that it's recently adding but it's Thursday night. I'm not sure what happened but the one girl that was behind the register tried to hand us one fried fisherman's platter instead of broiled that was not fried yet, it was breaded raw fish in a box, once I opened it I just asked for the refund cause they didn't have the other two items And the kitchen have been closed long time. It was well over an hour. I don't know what happened. There was so many people working there and they all saw us waiting, but not one person approached and said they would check on it that they've seen us waiting for a long time. So, I genuinely do not understand how the order was not put in. We did ask several times for an update and were told it was coming. Then they closed. I have left this place several five star reviews for a while now and I genuinely like it, but this was really inexcusable. Not only did they not make the food, but after they were closed, the one girl at the cashier tried to get us to leave with one meal instead of three and it was raw ! I'm so thankful that I opened the box at the register. I am not sure what to say and again we really love this place every other time but this was really shocking. So anyway, about 9 PM we wound up looking around for places that were still open so at least we could have something for dinner. We got to crab shack around seven and ordered by 720, go figure. I was working nearby and had dinner here. I had a Hot Lobster Roll and Mussels Marinara, both were absolutely Excellent and so delicious. This place has a rustic right off the boat atmosphere, not fancy but the quality of the food is top notch. The Lobster Roll I had could easily compete with more famous places in Maine. Ok let's start with the soups I ordered. 1.) Lobster Bisque or should I say Lobster puréed no Lobster in it at all. . 2.) Manhattan Clam Chowder tastes like from a can. Now I ordered Hush Puppies 2 orders when I got home they were fried Shrimp? As a main course I ordered the Lobster Roll that was kind bland. Then I ordered a large Fish & Chips that was one piece of fish with french fries, the fish was tasty. I also ordered steamed clams with chorizo that was also tasty. I've been coming here for 33 years--my great-grandparents even shopped here. Sadly, since the business changed hands, it's gone downhill. They now open at 10 AM instead of 9, which makes getting there a pain with Mantoloking Road traffic. When I visited on the 4th of July, there were only a few customers, but the man behind the counter (who seemed to be in charge) was rude and dismissive. I had my hands full and just asked to set a few items down--he wouldn't even make eye contact. They didn't even have crabs ready--on a holiday, no less--and the seafood they did get delivered was the same brand I can buy at ShopRite. This place used to feel special, but not anymore. Went to the crab shack last week while on a family vacation to the shore. We are midwesterners. My brain thought it would be a swanky dinner place for a fast lunch, like a Shaws crab in Chicago and we were all excited about it! When we pulled in, the front door was wide open on a 85 degree day and I was concerned the AC was broke. Nope. I walked in looking for the dining area, it was a standing room counter on the wall.... and looking down, I immediately saw a live blue crab escape a basket and make a break for the door... he was captured by the staff, but my 10 year old daughter couldn't handle the thought of harming a creature and swiftly departed... When I saw how fresh everything was, I immediately shifted gears and ordered like a king at the fish counter with a plan to cook and prep it all at our shore rental.... Yes. I really love this place! Food is solid. We tried the shrimp, scallops, crab cake, lobster all were really good and prices were actually reasonable! We got so much food for a good price. You pay at the counter and they bring your food out to the picnic tables or there are a few seats inside. They also have cornhole set up outside and it is conveniently located right on Mantoloking road. In addition to cooked food you can also buy fresh fish to cook at home. Purchased 2 lbs of Stone Crab Legs Thursday. They were horrible meat inside them appeared to be frozen and thawed, no texture no taste and completely falling apart. In retrospect should have tried one in store prior to purchase. I noticed that a 'Under New Ownership ' sign going up when leaving. Not sure this the reason for bad product and if bad product on new or old Ownership but it was terrible and waste of time and money. read more

Don't believe the place is in business anymore. Drive there today to place an order because no one answers the phone only to find a kitchen sink blocking the entrance way , a closed sign on the door and not a car or person around.
