We were visiting the shore and had the inclination to make our first seafood boil. Thankfully we…read morefound Ortley Seafood Market. The fish was incredibly fresh and the pricing was very reasonable. We tried to ask some qs, but didn't get a lot of help. That being said, it was a Saturday morning and very busy so we won't fault them for that. I'm sure that's not the case on a normal day. Definitely head to Ortley if you're in need of some very fresh fish!

Our order was ready in a flash: 1lb clam strips - fresh & hot, with cocktail & tartar sauces 1/2lb shrimp salad - plump shrimp in a simple mayo, celery, who knows what else dressing Jumbo shrimp cocktail - these huge shrimp were 3 bites each, & needed nothing else but lemon & cocktail sauce I had never seen crab sauce before - it's apparently one whole crab per container of red sauce! There was an empty shelf in the fridge & we learned that it was clam sauce that was so popular it was sold out (made in the morning). Both the New England & the Manhattan chowders sounded tempting, as was the jambalaya & lobster rolls. So tempting, that we came back the very next morning to have the same lunch & also pre-order 4 paellas to go. A couple hours later, the hot paella was packed securely for us. It was heavy, and looked & smelled amazing. It fed a lot of impressed people! Warm service, seats to eat in, lots of people coming to take out or get seafood to cook at home. This is the place for fresh seafood!

There is a to go area, bathroom, and then indoor seating area. They have merchandise behind the register. Started with the tuna nachos and crab rangoon mozzarella sticks. Tuna was good quality and had a good coating of sesame seeds. My perfect bite was tuna, orange sauce, seaweed, tomato, & onion. The chips were perfectly crispy. The crab rangoon was surprisingly good. This appetizer is what made me pick this place. Such a good combination. Didn't need the marinera sauce. Next up soups. Lobster bisque was ok. I guess I was expecting it to be a little more rich. But it was good, it tasted exactly like lobster and I got good chunks in the soup too. Now the shrimp and corn chowder was super flavorful. Favorite dish of the meal. For mains, cold lobster roll and two tails w butter and side salad. Side salad was well dressed and I appreciate the ribbons of Parmesan. The lobster was mostly cooked right. There was one that was a bit chewy. Added salt and butter but felt like something was missing still. I couldn't find a good combo of toppings to go with the lobster. The cold lobster roll was alright. The potato bread added a good sweet flavor that complimented the lobster. Overall a decent meal.

The waitress put 2 tables together for us and since we were the only ones inside she was ready to take our drink orders. Several in the group ordered fancy mixed drinks that they all raved about. I went for unsweetened ice tea. It's a good thing I tasted it before I added Splenda. We ordered chicken fingers for our girls so that their food would come out first. 2 of us ordered raw clams on the half shell and 2 ordered steamed clams for appetizers. We also ordered our entrees at this time. 3 of us ordered Flounder in a basket with French fries. And 2 of us had fried shrimp with fries. The first thing out was 2 orders of raw clams . Then 2 orders of Flounder with fries. Then 1 order of Flounder and finally brought out the chicken fingers for our 2 little ones. We asked where the appetizer order of the steamed clams was. The runner brought it out and yes it was cold and had to be sent back. When it finally came out it was ok. The manager came by to apologize for the problem. The food was ok. The place is clean and rustic with their metal chairs. The waitress knew what she was doing . We know she put the order in for the chicken fingers but the kitchen screwed up. Also the runner left the steamed clams sit there getting cold. We will probably be back but will expect better results so that I can increase my stars.
