The hot lobster roll wasn't actually hot...just butter on the bun, and the lobster meat was dry and chewy. We were pretty disappointed given the rave reviews. Our family went to the Lobster Dock just before the dinner rush on a weeknight. We were in a slight hurry and they accommodated our every need. I ordered the New England clam chowder soup, and it was loaded with meat and vegetables - very tasty! I also shared a lobster roll with my brother. They don't skimp on the lobster and it's a decent sized sandwich. The fries were OK. My wife and daughter ordered the chicken tenders and they were unlike any thing I've had in a restaurant before. The breading, which easily came off of the chicken, did not suit my taste but my other family members seem to like it. The honey, mustard dipping sauce that they had was probably the best honey mustard sauce I've ever eaten in my life. It wasn't too sweet and had the perfect taste. Almost everything I ate that night. Stopped on our way home from Island Beach on Sunday. Very friendly staff, waiter was nice and responsive. Food was outstanding. Our group of four ordered two lobster Cobb salads; a fried flounder sandwich; and a warm lobster roll. We were all happy with our choices. The salad was HUGE and had a lot of lobster on it. The salad dressing was clearly housemade and delicious. Fish sandwich also came with housemade tartar sauce that was very tasty. The fish sandwich was very lightly breaded on a nice soft roll. First time here. We sat outside and it was a comfy experience. Our server was very kind and helpful. We ordered their special app of the day which was mussels and shrimp in a red sauce. Great place ! Happy they are here in Lava! Here's what we had: 8-raw clams- I don't touch them but my husband said they tasted so fresh. The cocktail sauce had good flavor too. Lobster roll - cold- he has not stopped talking about it since we came home. He is getting that every time. A little pricey but worth every bite. He requested they add the street corn to it from the special. New England clam chowder - very hearty and generous with clams. Chicken sandwich - pretty good. My family and I went to the lobster dock later in the evening and amongst the four of us we ordered 9 appetizers and ate every last bite! The raw bar-ravishing, the wings-well done, the mussels-masterful and the shrimp-stupendous! All-in-all it was great! The place was jammed pack and our food still came out in a timely fashion. Randy was our waiter and was an absolute gem; he was personable, easy to talk to, and was always there to help when we needed. Myself and 4 friends were eating at your restaurant tonight. Sept.1 One person in our party had a medical episode and passed out at the restaurant. We called 911. I recently moved to this area and have been coming to Ortley beach for many years since my son was little and just found this place last Saturday when my family came down from Bergen county to celebrate my brother's birthday. Blue Point oysters were sooo fresh as well as the Maine Lobster Pot and Broiled New England Combo. All so delicious! We came in the middle of the day between lunch and dinner rush so it wasn't so busy. Very attentive staff and chef even came out to greet us. Two stars are for the overpriced yet tasty food. Back of house did there thing. However this is where I draw the line because the management and inventory was sloppy and embarrassing. First off They said they only had 1 high chair in the whole establishment. So my 1 year old son was able to get one but not my 4 year old. That's ok ... annoying but ok. This is why I'm livid, my son had a blowout and they have no changing tables in the mens or woman's restroom. Like really? It's 2022 how can you not have a baby changing table. I asked for a straw.... They didn't have any and said they wouldn't be ordering more because it was the end of the season. What a cheap and arrogant thing to say... straws don't expire... especially for the prices they charge. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone just on the pure lack of interest and ignorant comments. Embarrassing. Get a changing table, get straws (or close now) but if your not going to provide full service then stop charging full prices. read more

Great service. Kind and fast. Party of 2 in and out in under an hour. Both of us got the clam chowder and lobster roll and were big fans of both. The chowder is very filling so maybe split a bowl. Let's start with the good points. The waiter was a doll and the shrimp and steamers were delicious. The restaurant was insanely hot and filled with flies but more importantly they were out of 70 percent of the menu. All of this should have been disclosed when we put our name on the wait list and we would have happily went down the road and waited somewhere else. The owner took zero responsibility and lots of reasons why it was what it was and ultimately told us we did not have to stay. If we had known it would not improve we certainly would have. I typically do not write bad reviews as everyone is entitled to a bad night however I went home and shared my experience with a few neighbors and discovered that this is in fact very typical of this restaurant and the owner. We took the bikes from Chadwick Beach and went to check this place out. I prefer a warm lobster roll (CT style) and this place gives you the option of each. The outdoor seating was perfect for the sunny day we had, we parked and kicked up the bikes a d were immediately greeted. Not a lot of variety on non alcoholic drinks away from soda. The green tea was bottled and just sweet enough. The lobster roll was great, Nantucket style bun, side of fries that could have been more crispy, Cole slaw and I asked for some Old Bay to season both. The meal hit the spot. Zero issues from beginning to end. I will be back to check out the other seafood especially the raw oysters. read more
