Checked out Spring Lake Seafood this weekend with a group of 6. Our reservations were for 5:30 and they seated us as soon as we arrived. We were seated in the covered front deck area which was separated from the interior restaurant. It was an 80-85° day but the temperature in the space was relatively comfortable. We had grabbed a few bottles of white from the conveniently located liquor store across the street. I love me a good BYOB establishment. We started with the tuna pizza, an order of oysters, garlic shrimp, beet salad, and the Bibb salad. (Just a side note, they want you to place your starters and entrees at the same time). Everything came out in a reasonable time and was all very good. The Tuna pizza was not at all what I was envisioning but was a pleasant surprise both presentation and taste wise. The shrimp were interesting because they looked like they would be super flavorful, but just felt kind of flat. Both of the salads were delicious, I really enjoyed the Bibb and would highly recommend it. I had the Bluefin and it was really good, the portion size was fair and the fish was extremely fresh. It was far from the best bluefin I've had, but would recommend it nonetheless. Everyone else enjoyed their entrees as well and overall I would say we had a great time. It was a bit pricey, but it's Spring Lake so that was baked into the cake. Will visit again, and this time I'll remember to order the lobster roll. read more

We revisited Spring Lake Seafood after our first visit 2 years ago. We were excited remembering how good it was! Our excitement quickly turned to disappointment. We ordered the Lobster Roll - when it came out, my partner and I looked at each other with the same disbelief. It was literally half the size of the Lobster Roll we had before. In addition the lobster wasn't tender - it was chewy. And to 'top it off' it was over seasoned - we ordered the hot, buttered roll. The 'famed' lobster roll was no longer the same epic sandwich. Next, we reordered the Crab Cake. It was an amazing dish when we had it before. Again, it was half the size of the crab cake we had before. This was hands down one of the best meals I've had all year! Firstly, I really like knowing that everything is sourced from local farmers and fisherman to make sure all of their ingredients are fresh and clean. Everything here is intentional. They use olive oil over seed oils for example, and ingredients that actually make you feel good after you eat. We started off with the raw bar--fresh clams that tasted like the ocean in the best way. Then we had to try the famous tuna pizza, and wow! I get the hype now. It was the perfect combo of crunchy, creamy, and salty and I'll be dreaming about it for days to come! The garlic shrimp was delicious and had a savory juice, something you'd find in a Spanish tapas restaurant which was perfect for bread dipping. The spaghetti with clams was a classic but elevated dish and came with a generous portion. We tried the ahi tuna lo mein from their specials and that was a fun addition. It doesn't taste greasy so don't expect takeout quality. Their sushi was seriously impressive and some of the best I've had in NJ. We got the kamikaze roll, ninja roll, and chef's nigiri. Totally fresh and easy to eat. Even the mocktails were next level. We tried the Heat Wave and Chicha Sour. Both so unique and had us feeling refreshed after, not sluggish. Of course we ended with dessert. The banana bread pudding made in-house was a huge treat. So delectable and moist. The lemon sorbet was a great way to cleanse our palate and was very refreshing. This place is where high-quality meets creative! Even the ambiance reflects their sustainable beliefs. They have a beautiful coastal inspired design in a minimalist way, using lots of natural textures in the designs. The service was fantastic and attentive. I had such an amazing experience last time I dined here that I chose Spring Lake Seafood for my birthday dinner last night. The table was beautifully set, and I love that they're BYOB. Our service was quick and attentive! As for the food, I have never had fresher seafood in my life. We shared the tuna pizza appetizer, the ninja roll, and the spicy crunchy lobster roll. Everything was outstanding. I had the bluefin tuna flight all to myself, which came with akami, chutoro, and otoro. It was a perfect birthday treat for a tuna lover like myself! So, this place is interesting. What was once Dale's and Who's on Third has reinvented itself as a "seafood" place. It's more of a limited sushi / seafood menu with a weird drink selection. It's a BYOB. Luckily Spring Lake still has a liquor store in between about 12 realtors. Since they don't serve alcohol they have a mocktail list and a bunch of boutique soft drinks but no standard cola products. That includes no diet beverages other than unsweetened ice tea. For food, the menu is sparse on entrees but has a selection of sushi and appetizers that round out the choices. The shrimp and grits was interesting. They added sausage like some sort of play on jambalaya but it didn't blend well. The sausage had a heavy smoke flavor more like a hotdog. It was clearly sausage but the flavor didn't work well. The sauce had the color of Franks hot sauce and tasted like it a bit as well but most of the hot was blended out with the other items in the sauce. The grits were perfect and the shrimp were nice sized and not bad. Overall, I would have preferred either a jambalaya or a pure shrimp and grits. I applaud the effort for creative but it just wasn't there for me. The service was good and not too rushed. Nice not to be rushed but if you don't have a reservation expect a significant wait. Just had another delicious meal here pleasant atmosphere delicious top-notch food and great ambience. The blackfish special was perfect The gnocchi was delicious and I believe they have the best sushi I've ever had anywhere. And they serve clams on the half shell properly with the wine like sauce, cocktail sauce, horseradish, and lemons. So many restaurants just don't get that right. By far our favorite restaurant in Spring Lake! Casual but nice ambiance, excellent service, and everything we've ever ordered is excellent. Our favorites are the spicy tuna pizza (spicy tuna crispy rice with spicy mayo, wasabi, and eel sauce), the ahi tuna, and the banana bread pudding. It's one of those places that you can't order "wrong." The sushi is so fresh, and we've enjoyed both the specialty rolls and the nigiri flights. It's BYOB, but they also have a small selection of wine. They also have a nice list of interesting mocktails. A reservation is needed, especially on the weekends. Excellent meal for any seafood lover! Oysters were flavorful and plump. I savored every bite of the bluefin tuna flight, it was so fresh and delicious. Crab cakes were the best I've ever had. It was ALL crab meat, no fillers! With a perfectly crispy crust. Unfortunately we did not save room for dessert. BYOB was a huge plus, though the sober bar sounds delicious. I remember when this location was a little luncheonette. They made a killer grilled cheese. Last year was the first time we went as Spring Lake Seafood and the food was really good. This year it was not really good...it was great! We started with grilled calamari and scallops that were resting on a creamy lobster sauce with a small amount of caviar garnishing the top of the scallops. Both dishes left us wanting more. Fortunately the entrees that followed were equally beautiful dishes that tasted amazing. My wife had a salmon special that was served with broccoli rabe. She was raving and so was the gentleman at the next table...like a chorus of praise! I had the fjord trout, served on a bed of perfectly cooked lentils. I have had, and very much enjoyed, trout in the past but this was my first fjord trout. It was so good. One of those meals you close your eyes and smile reminiscing about. We capped the meal with tres leches cake...one of my favorites. It was done perfectly moist but not mushy...sweet but not too much. Our waitress was a sweetheart! It's kind of a small place so it was a little noisy but not in an overbearing way. Quite frankly the food was so good Slayer could have been playing a set in the middle of the room and it wouldn't have distracted from the meal one iota. Spring Lake Seafood is a gem. We had an amazing lunch date at Spring Lake Seafood after a beach day. Place is clean, cute and cozy. Pretty coastal decor. Service was fabulous. We had servers switched mid shift and we couldn't be happier with both of them. They made a great suggestions, were attentive and available. We started with Prince Edward Island Oysters followed by fluke ceviche. Both amazing. For a main course we had fish tacos and fish & chips. I have never had tastier battered fish. What a wonderful meal and overall experience at Spring Lake Seafood. The property itself is beautifully detailed; a stunning yet relaxing and enjoyable space. The food was phenomenal. Incredibly fresh and creative dishes, well prepared with good depth of flavor, without trying too hard. Everything hit the mark well. We started with a salad course, I had the Bibb salad, which was delicious with fuji apples, candied walnuts, goat cheese champagne vinaigrette. Pretty sure the candied walnuts were made in-house, they had the perfect amount of crunch! My wife had the caesar, again spot on yummy salad. I walked past the service counter and saw they have a DRY AGER for their TUNA, which I have NEVER seen in a seafood restaurant. I'm a huge fan of dry aged beef, so seeing this put a big smile on my face. This place nerds out on the little touches, I love that. I got the bluefin tuna flight to sample the tuna and I will tell you it's the best tuna sushi I've ever had, so so good. Our main course we got crabcakes, and again they did top notch work. They used a remoulade that I've only ever had similar to (and have sought out since) at Del Frisco's but with less spice. I usually prefer broiled, but the crabcake had a perfect crust that didn't take away from the overall texture of the generous lump inside. They came paired with fingerling potatoes with a light sautee, and these brussel sprouts with this very unique sour citrus spicy flavor profile that I really enjoyed, full of flavor. Really cute restaurant and quite busy on a Friday night! It is BYOB but they have some wines on the menu. We made a reservation just in case and to avoid any potential wait. They have a small bar, some booth seating, mostly tables. I will mention that it gets quite loud and it does feel like you have to shout to the people you're sitting with. We ordered the ninja roll as an appetizer, this was the star of the meal. I ordered the bolognese which was tasty. Their pasta tasted homemade and was a little on the softer side (not my preference but not bad). The bolognese and chicken tenders and fries both needed more salt, more of a preference thing since some people might not like a lot of salt. The side salad was tasty with a sprinkling of breadcrumbs on the top and crunchy capers. My husband got the fries that come with the sandwich which were good. I find most places tend to skimp on the seafood dishes, but not here. Finally a place that offers decent portions of quality seafood. My first experience at Spring Lake seafood will not be my last. I love "beachy" atmosphere, and the service was attentive and friendly at Springlake Seafood. I particularly liked meeting the staff member named Collin he is a delight! He remembered my brother and spouse, which was super special for them. The food was delicious. My highlights were the oysters Rockefeller and the tuna "pizza". The tuna pizza reminded me of a Jersey shore, Nobu tuna on crispy rice. (how's that for high praise ) I loved the presentation. My husband really liked his Yellowtail Chili Crunch Nigiri. Just by watching him eat it I knew it was Divine. I sampled the Kamikaze Ora King Roll- (ikura, crunch, sticky soy). It was yummy, very rich with a sweet smoky tone. I think that roll is a good one to share. Everyone raved about the lobster crunch roll, it looked perfect. I thought the sushi was priced reasonably well for the high-quality. For my actual entrée, I tried the fjord trout special. The dish was described as a "Salmon like" trout with burr blanc sauce, asparagus, and pomme purée. I was a little bit disappointed to find a scoop of mashed potatoes when I was expecting creamy purée. (and I still lived through the shock. Lol, jk) I think I would've liked the dish a little more if they were just called mashed potatoes. The trout was very dense and not what I expected, but the crispy crust was fantastic. Confused by the prices on the menu, we asked our waitress if the $20 salads were appetizer or dinner portions. The waitress seemed annoyed by this question. When we were considering salads along with a shrimp appetizer, our waitress told us that was plenty of food. She even mentioned two people could probably split the salad. We also asked about adding protein to the salad and she mentioned chicken would be market price ($37) to add. We ordered our salads with an app or two and Brussels sprouts. Chef Bradley is doing some real magic here at Spring Lake Seafood. Serving some modern takes on classic seafood favorites as well as inventive, nouveau sushi and Japanese forward seafood dishes. Service here is warm and comforting; our server George was knowledgeable about the menu and had some very helpful and delicious suggestions. The atmosphere has a definite maritime feel while being casual. When packed with people on a busy Friday night, the place is alive and buzzing. I cannot tell you the amount of relief I get when I sit down at a restaurant and am greeted with a menu that is a single page long. It often promises outstanding quality and shows a kitchen has perfected their craft. At Spring Lake Seafood, that promise was kept. The location is small, but not so small that you're going to be uncomfortable. They've good seating indoors and out. I, on a hot evening, took a table on the porch. I was served by the lovely and professional Bri, and was told of the wine list from a small label of California. (Bottle of white, bottle of red, perhaps a nice Rosé instead?) Specifically, a Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir, and a Rosé. As I was having oysters to start, I chose the crisp Chardonnay. Such a perfect pairing! (The gourmands can keep their champagne.) Main course was going to be a bit tricky-so many things to choose from- but I could not help from selecting the day boat scallops, with cauliflower purée, forged mushrooms, green beans, and grapefruit browned butter. I was in culinary bliss with each bite! And my guest equally enjoyed a special of shrimp encrusted salmon. I'll definitely be back here again. The fries were ok, pretty burned, and the clam chowder was a generous portion broth-wise but no clams or potato pieces really? A lot of carrots though. This place is super popular, so take the time to reserve a table. Everyone has a fantastic time and really loved their dishes. Very limited wine selection, so bring your own. They provided us with an ice bucket. The oysters were delicious! Some of the best I have tried on the Jersey shore. Highly recommend. I opted to have an appetizer and salad for my main course, and man were those servings huge! The mussels were delicious and some of the fries had time to soak up the delicious broth. A side of bread would have been nice to dunk. My Bibb salad was fantastic. Several folks got the seafood pasta special or the fra diabolo. Massive servings. Great pasta. Delicious broth. Food: I liked our spaghetti with clam sauce a lot! My brother had the burger with fries, fries were a bit too. The Buffalo sauce with calamari was a bit of a miss for me.
