My husband and I have always had a great time at the foundry. Food is great, service is always on Point and good vibes all around.

I did truly want to love this place...historic old building brought back to life in the core of downtown Elyria, but every dish we ordered just missed the mark. Our server was absent for a good portion of our time there; she was certainly pleasant enough (we sat in the front room), but after dropping off food or drink she disappeared for long periods of time and never really checked back often enough. Oh well, on to the food. My wife and I ordered a variety of appetizer and main dishes...deviled eggs, fried pickles (one of their specialties), poutine and a burger. * Wasabi deviled eggs - slight kick of the wasabi overpowered by the Sriracha sauce they were plated over * Fried pickles - the best dish of the bunch, briny and served with a cooling ranch dressing * Poutine - started off okay, but served with shoestring fries it became cold quickly and all of the gravy settled at the bottom made for a half dish soggy mess * Burger - a half beef and half bacon concoction that turned out very dry Idea wise they certainly had some creative recipes, but actual preparation left much to be desired. I want to give Foundry five stars because the food is consistently delicious and the space is inviting and lively. The service is also consistent - if you enjoy being treated like an annoyance and waiting far longer than necessary to get orders in and your check taken care of. Look, this place could be fantastic and clearly has some issues with staffing where there are sometimes not nearly enough servers working the bar and floor. But even on the best days, the servers - as a whole, it's not isolated to one or two, it's all of them - pull the most obvious tactics for ignoring tables by appearing busier than they are. I was a server, I know the game. They will do everything to avoid eye contact, with the quick head sweeps to look like they're checking on things as they move through too quickly to prevent you from catching their attention unless you are prepared to wave them down. They also have a habit of checking on only one table at a time and then heading back to the bar to chat and "pick up drinks" aka hang out til one set of drinks are made, then huffing and looking around when they do deign to check on you to give the appearance of being rushed and busy every time they choose to stop by your table - it's pretty clear they just don't give a crap about moving things along. I don't need them to treat me like their best friend, but damn sometimes I just want another drink after finishing my first. Let me spend more money! I have only once, after multiple visits to this spot, had a server who checked in on my table regularly and got us our drinks, food, and check within a reasonable amount of time without making me feel like I was a massive inconvenience. The staff needs some training. This can be a real sh*t job and I'm not asking for royal treatment by any means (I don't think anyone should kiss a** just for a tip), but I don't want to wait 15 minutes to get in an order, wait 15 minutes after finishing a drink to ask for another, and wait then another 15 minutes to get the check once I'm done with my food. I don't want to have to flag someone down every single time just for the basics of service to be fulfilled. Furthermore I have never once, after a year plus of coming here, encountered a manager or owner. No manager has ever introduced themselves or checked in, I never see anyone managing the floor to ensure things are moving along. Despite being relative regulars by this point, no one recognizes us, no one bothers to. Much as I want to love this place, it's increasingly difficult to justify going. When every night there feels like an off night, it gets pretty tiring. TLDR: could be great, it's worth a visit for the food, don't expect much from the service. read more

Charming converted historic building with a proliferation of flat screen TVs (in case that's what you like); wide variety of food and drink items on the menu; the noise level was a bit excessive for us as we were hoping to talk easily with each other - we can see how it would be energizing if that's what you're looking for. We opted for this restaurant over the chains in town, seeking character and menu variety. We found these, but unfortunately the screens, the noise, and the seemingly understaffed waitstaff were challenging for us. The pizza was great, the day's special grilled chicken salad was on par with what Wendy's offers (and a bit smaller). The Foundry is a great addition to downtown Elyria. The ambiance is rustic in the best way and the staff members were great! However, I had a pesto pasta with shrimp that was less than appetizing and at $16, I truly expected more. The shrimp were cooked nicely but the pasta was drenched in oil and there was a dry cheese mixture (I couldn't put my finger on) that had a less than desirable mouthfeel. I've been here a few times while visiting Cleveland and love it. Foundry never disappoints! The food is amazing and the service is always wonderful. I tried the muscles for the first time and they were so good. We got lobster bisque, wings with cajun dry rub, and salad. Everything was a big hit. They also offer Sunday brunch that's served from 10am to 2pm. I highly recommend Foundry and will definitely be back when I'm in the area. read more

Holy crap this food is amazing!! I wish I didn't live 45 minutes away! I need excuses for coming out here now! Street parking. We were here at off hours, 2pm on a Monday, so parking was easy. Staff is super friendly. Clean place. One thing I noticed is that to get in, there are no steps , so a wheelchair can get in easy from the sidewalk. It's a scratch kitchen, so a lot of things made there like dressings. The deviled eggs are soaked in sake and have wasabi....omg amazing. The Buffalo chicken pizza was the best I ever had!!! This is a great find! We had some business to handle in Elyria and wanted to stop somewhere for lunch nearby. Of course my first instinct was to check my good friend Yelp. This place had great reviews so we gave it a try. Once again Yelp didn't fail me, this place is fantastic! I had the In Bacon We Trust burger. It's 50% bacon, 50% beef and 100% amazing! Someone needs to teach the "chef" how to make a reuben sandwich. Several of us ordered reubens last week at our table. 3 of us were running to the bathroom later that day!! The sandwich was as flat as a grilled cheese sandwich. The bread was burnt and looked like pumpernickel bread. Usually you have a heaping amount of corned beef and sauerkraut on the sandwich, but this had two slices of corned beef and a spoonful of sauerkraut. There was no thousand island dressing on the sandwich or on the side, so I had to ask for some. I couldn't believe with the prices they charge that they couldn't even make a decent Reuben Sandwich!!! It was the worse reuben I've ever had in my life. No, I didn't send it back because we were were several other people and I didn't want to cause a problem. Stopped in on a Friday night and this place was busy! We were able to score two seats at the bar right away though so lucky us! The inside is a big open room with a smaller room for private parties. It's packed with people and a little loud, but it felt comfortable. I could definitely see myself coming here for a casual drink or to grab a meal with a group of people. It does not come across as trying to be a hipster hole in the wall nor an Applebee's. It's a gastropub, higher end beer and food, and I liked it right away. I would come here over Wolfey's (which seemed more divey/lower quality food to me). Since it was seafood Friday I tried a cup of their lobster bisque $5.50. Standard but pretty good. I also shared the 16" short rib pizza $18 with my friend. At first I was like 18 freaking dollars for a pizza in Elyria?! But then this voluptuous fancy pizza comes out and I was surprised. Slices are huge and I barely made it through one, definitely getting a lot of value for your dollar. You've got something hearty here with the mashed potatoes, short rib, tons of gooey cheese (maybe a tiny bit too much? blasphemy I know), and a swirl of horseradish sauce on top. This pizza was great reheated a couple days later and I would definitely order it again. The only thing I would change is to ask for more horseradish sauce, I like that little zing to really pop all of the flavors. I know some of you sheltered snobs might be like, "ew I don't want to drive so far west to lackluster Elyria", but listen, it's worth it. The downtown area looked clean, safe, and nice (plus free street parking). I cannot wait to go back and try their meatloaf dinner or the chicken and waffle pizza. Errhhmygwad, seriously, I'm really trying not to blow up like Jabba the Hutt but places like this really don't help. If you know someone who likes extra juicy babes who spend all of their money on food hit me up. Bonus is I'll probably die young so you can remarry early. (This is all in jest, nobody should be using Yelp for dating, that includes you too "Larry" who sent me that creepy message). Update: Meatload Dinner and the Chicken Waffle Pizza were just okay. I just visited Foundry Kitchen and really enjoyed it. I had the BLT Salad, which was great, and Meat Loaf for my entree. I was expecting a traditional Meat Loaf and the plate was more of like 3 giant meat balls on top of mashed potatoes. Excellent!!! I really enjoyed it. The service was great. My server was Nadiya. She was attentive, but not obtrusive and super friendly. Finally, I really enjoyed the restaurant's decor, music selection (great mix, not too loud), and layout. Don't be fooled by the website. Bourbon here is not cheap. $30 for an ounce pour of Weller full proof?! Pfft. Food menu is close to up to date, though. Unfortunately, the food is pretty mediocre. The shrimp tacos were mostly lettuce with maybe 6 breaded shrimp cut up with a couple tablespoon salsa and ranch. Just tried this place for the first time. What a hidden gem! The food was outstanding, I started off with the 1/2 wedge salad and it was fresh and delicious. Then for the main dish I had the T.J burger which was a nice twist made with beef and chorizo. Absolutely fantastic, and the side of fries were hot fresh and perfect. My wife had the bacon Mac & Cheese and said it was outstanding. The old building is very cool with a great atmosphere and great ambiance. Our waitress was fantastic, very friendly and polite.
