Diso 2.0 Grille in Lorain is an absolute gem. The new owners, Felix and Ellie, have truly done their thing with the place. The updated décor gives the restaurant a great vibe and atmosphere, and the low lighting is exceptional--it creates a relaxed, welcoming setting that makes dinner feel like an experience rather than just a meal. The food is outstanding and very well balanced. You can tell there's real attention to quality and flavor. The price point is also spot on for what you get--great quality food and generous portions that make it feel well worth it. While the original owners were great, the new ownership is by far a better fit for the space and what the restaurant has become. Felix and Ellie have really elevated the place. Dinner service runs from 4 PM to 10 PM, with the kitchen usually closing around 11 PM. One thing I appreciate is that if the place is busy, the owners are known to stay open a little longer so guests can enjoy themselves. The dining room is on the smaller side, so you can't pack in a huge crowd--but honestly that's part of the charm. The close-knit atmosphere makes it feel personal and lively... or as Felix would say, it's "way more gooder." My advice: make reservations if you can. You can try just stopping in, but be warned--on Friday and Saturday nights this place is usually packed. Two and a half really. We have been here many times with the old owners. It was time we tried Diso 2.0. Place was not busy at all. Waitress suggested the chicken potato skins. Couldn't eat them. They were cold and instead of a crispy, gooey treat,they came out with 3\8" of potato. It was not good. Our friends had steak and salmon. Both enjoyed their meals. I had tortellini with garlic cream sauce with shrimp. The sauce was thick and flavorless. It was almost paste like. Here's the funny part. The shrimp were the very same they use in the shrimp cocktail. It was very odd. No color or additional flavor. My wife had the angel hair with chicken. She said that whatever wine they used wasn't cooked off. The dish just didn't come together. I think they are going to have a hard time. I have been coming to Diso's longer than I can remember and I have never ordered anything other than the Filet. Every time I come I order the flatbread of the day followed up by the filet. Went last Wednesday. I ordered a tenderloin burger, which did not disappoint. Barbara ordered the pasta, which was a little dry but none the less good. Our first trip here after being locals for 6 years We sat at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere and owner Mark. Many patrons seemed to be regulars which gave a very relaxed and welcoming feel. My husband and I started off with drinks. He had a Jack and Coke while I went with my tried and true Amoretto Sour. Mark served up my drink in a glass that once belong to his aunt and I was in love It was beautiful and I couldn't get enough of it! He said he brought it to the bar for the ladies to enjoy and I can confess that I highly enjoyed it and it enhanced my dining experience We ordered the potato skins as an appetizer which were out of this world! The outside was crispy and seasoned and the inside was soft and decadent! The best potato skins I've ever had if I'm being honest. We followed the skins with the fillet mignon entrée listed at market price served with potatoes and asparagus. Don't worry, if you don't want asparagus, he offers other sides that he has available that day if you need to substitute. I ordered 8oz cooked medium while my husband splurged on 12oz cooked medium rare. Both steaks were cooked to perfection with a garlic butter on top. It was heavenly! Mark told us that his steaks are never frozen and always fresh. The cuts are perfect every time making it easy for guests to choose nearly any size steak they want! The menu is petite with just a few appetizers and a handful of entrees but it's a well rounded menu that includes a burger, chicken, two pasta dishes, steak and fish. I feel like this allows the cook to really perfect the menu vs having a lot of choices that might turn out mediocre. I've been to the French restaurant in vermillion for steak and Strip in Avon and a few other places. For the price and the quality Disos is really top notch and should NOT be overlooked. I didn't have to go black tie to get a really pristine meal. My husband and I like spending money on good food and we prefer doing it in reasonable clothes so I was happy to show up in a nice shirt with jeans and get this amazing service and meal. Mark is amazing. He ran the whole dining area and bar and didn't break a sweat! It's a small restaurant but didn't feel crowded (space wise) like you'd expect and the dining room has a wonderful fireplace. Mark made sure to space our meal out. He didn't have the steaks started until we had nearly finished our appetizer giving us time to settle and have conversation. It felt relaxed and I wasn't overwhelmed because my meal didn't come before we had finished out appetizers. Oh and did I mention that gorgeous high ball glass my drink was served in?! We will be returning to try other items on the menu and hopefully become regulars. I didn't see any children when we went but I wouldn't say you couldn't bring them. With the menu and atmosphere I personally would save this place as a date location. I just have one suggestion. Dessert. While a desert cocktail was offered I personally love finishing off a nice meal with a small piece of cake or truffle and a little glass of port wine. After dinner we stopped at another local spot for dessert which made for a fun change of pace on our date but I would have been perfectly happy spending that time at Diso's for dessert if it was offered Also, if Mark is reading this, I found a whole set of the high ball glasses on eBay if you'd like a complete set! Ambiance is a bit dark but your eyes get accustomed to the dim lighting. The menu is not huge; you get a couple of choices but the food is worth it. The owner is very friendly. Wine selection has some good choices. Tried the spinach dip and it was so good. Very creamy and they serve it with deep friend pita chips. The entire app was gone in seconds. I had the 6 ounce filet. Ordered it medium rare and it came out perfect. It was well seasoned and buttery soft/tender. I also had the 5 cheese tortellini. So good and so filling! I was not a fan of the salad because it was a very small portion and it was just field greens. Wasn't good. Everything else however was great. The pricing was decent. I've been looking for a good restaurant since I moved here and I've finally found it. I've tried everywhere, including $100/ plate places that just don't get it. But this place! What a find! It's different. The exterior is intimidating. If I owned the place I'd take down the fence and take the bars off if the windows. We have cameras now and the extra ironwork scares off customers. If it were up to my wife we would never have gone in. But we did - and didn't regret it. The menu is somewhat limited but don't fret. The owner (I assume he's the owner) assured us that we could mix/match and modify as much as we wanted. If they have the ingredients on the kitchen, they'll make it. We did that. No problem. Drink? Sure. I ordered a gin martini, which doesn't seem like a big deal, but it's amazing how many $50/plate bartenders can't make one. They sub crappy gin for my Tanqueray call and try to hide it with olive juice. They water it down. They drown it in cheap vermouth. They serve it warm. This martini was perfect in every respect! I might like it colder but that's a minor quibble. Appetizer? Potato skins are recommended. You've had those - every tavern in NE Ohio offers them. Sad, sloppy, soggy skins with rehashed potatoes, dehydrated bacon bits, drowning in sour cream and way too much cheap cheese. These aren't like that. They're small-ish. They're crisp. They're close to fluffy. They're absolutely delicious and the green sauce on the plate is simply spectacular! Tonight's special - pork chop in a reduction sauce with two sides. The sides, asparagus and fried potatoes, were absolutely perfect, which is apparently very difficult to do because there's not a restaurant in Lorain county - or Cuyahoga - that knows how. And the chop! It's huge! And the sauce is pure magic! I haven't tasted anything so good in years. I nearly started crying - it was that good. High quality, perfectly cooked, nicely presented. They do filet like I've never seen. You order by the ounce and pay accordingly. 5 ounce? 16 ounce? No prob. They butcher to order right in the kitchen. They're buying good meat, too. If it's not prime it's damn close to it. My wife's filet was on par with the best I've had anywhere in the country. You can't beat this place at any price and you sure can't beat it for the price they ask. I see us becoming regulars. It really is that good. We'll be back. read more

I had been here 2 years ago and had a better experience than this one. Six of us had a reservation and were promptly greeted and seated. If you have never been here, you need to recognize it is a small restaurant with a small menu. We ordered our drinks and then all chose the filet as our entree. Three wanted 6 oz. and 3 wanted 8 oz. After a few minutes, the server returned and said they only had 3 filets available. What? He had already told us they were out of the salmon. With only 7 items on the menu, how can you be out of the filet, which I would imagine is one of their most popular items. 3 of us switched up, and I ended up with the chicken. The chicken was good, but the potatoes were excessively salty. To make up for the lack of the meals we wanted, we were all given dessert at no charge. The creme brûlée was ok, but I didn't need the whipped cream and strawberries on top. No bananas foster was available because they hadn't done their shopping for the week. Again, not sure how you run a restaurant when you don't have all the necessary food to serve meals. The food isn't all that special, and with this experience, we are not likely to return. read more

This upscale restaurant has limited seating and although we did not have a reservation, we were seated and served promptly. The food was excellent as was the bartender/server. Mark, the owner is a crook; watch his scribbling when tallying up your bill. Hard to decipher and looks like hieroglyphics only a thief of his caliber understands when cheating his customers. Let's see.. $47.00 for two TERRIBLY unseasoned and bland cheeseburgers where they put swiss on rather than cheddar (soggy buns included/NOT TOASTED), nothing at all 'caramelized' about the crappy onions that were diced (lol) for a topping, fries that weren't even salted (wtf), a 'house salad' that was a styrofoam container filled with nothing but plain romain lettuce -- no onion, cheese or tomato! Lastly, two pieces of cheesecake which were DELICIOUS I must say, however. Meals hardly worthy of 47 bucks though. Hmmm. Was told 'a good 30 minutes' before being ready when ordered by phone. Got there for carryout and waited an additional 25 more miserable minutes while listening to this guy explain to a table how many items they were out of. What an embarrassment! I turned red for him. Being treated like a mute, never once was I asked if I wanted something while I sat there at the bar. Shocked I wasn't suckered into buying drinks while waiting. Here's the tip I didn't leave the tired idiot owner: hire a real cook and brush up on your hosting. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes -- and that's why your sign should read: RIP DISO'S 2006-2020. Place allegedly was once alright, boy have they taken a nose dive. Possible Jon Taffer rescue mission could help resuscitate such a lifeless den of disappointment. Diso's is running on fumes. Time to sell it to someone that has passion for the business. The lonely soul who thinks they're slick by overcharging people to get more out of them is destined for ruination!! Boy are we glad we did! Seriously one of the best meals I've had in 2019. Cajun cream pasta with salmon, a filet, then creme brulee for dessert. We loved the ambience of the restaurant, your upscale type restaurant but with a Cheers feel. The house Italian dressing is to die for and the salad was so fresh. The garlic pita bread is amazing. I have never had filet this good. The seasoning is amazing and it practically melts in your mouth. The garlic red skin mashed potatoes are fantastic. Don't skip dessert either. The nicest restaurant in Lorain hands down. Great ambiance and cozy atmosphere. The flat bread with pesto is a great treat before you get your meal. I had the filet mignon and it was really good. Cooked perfectly! Another favorite was the pork chops. The salmon dish was so-so. With my filet dinner I only wished it would have been served with mashed potatoes instead of seasoned cut potatoes. The food was very good, and the service was okay. Our server never filled up our waters and we waited a long time to get our check. Once we got our check we were ready to go and had to wait awhile for it to be taken. For being a fancy, pricey place, I would expect the service to be better. This was the first experience at Diso's for my wife and me and it will not be our last. We invited a couple who are friends of ours and it was their first time too. The initial impression is not great. The neighborhood is a little dingy and the exterior of the restaurant fits the neighborhood well. The building is very small. The bar is the first thing you see when you first walk in. The dining area is open to the bar and seats about 24 people or so. The dining room is very comfortable and the tables are spread apart nicely. Our wait-person was very attentive and friendly. Overall, service was very good. We all ordered cocktails, which were very good as well. The menu is pretty limited, but we each were able to find something we like. We ordered two appetizers (risotto balls and potato skins). The risotto balls were very good and the skins were amazing! Three of us ordered fillets, which were very good. The lyonnaise potatoes were over salted, but decent. The fourth person in our party ordered the salmon and she was very happy with it. This was the first time we had been to Diso's and can say with absolute certainty we will be back. It has this great atmosphere, great service, and out of this world food. We had the potato skins which are unlike any type of potato skins anywhere else. They bring skins to a whole new level. The homemade bread with the pesto was outstanding. And don't even get me started on the filet! Not only is it cut fresh to size but it was the most tender and flavorful piece of steak I have ever had. Cooked absolutely perfect. He is not friendly in any way - we even attempted to make a joke with him to get him to lighten up, he ignored us you and was strictly business. None-the-less, the food is so unbelievably great that I will absolutely eat here again and hope that someone other than the owner waits on me. I ordered the 5oz Filet and it came with Asparagus and Lyonnais Potatoes and a house salad - D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S.!! It was so freakin amazing that I wanted to lick my plate! And, even though my dinner was plenty of food, I had to order the Crème Brule because I am not capable of refusing that dessert! First of all, it was huge! Not at all like the dinky Crème Brule's you will get from other restaurants. Two people could actually share this dessert without either feeling slighted. On top of the Brule, there was a huge mound of whipped cream and sliced strawberries. My dinner partner ordered the chicken breast. She said it was amazing as well - but I was so busy with my food that I failed to get any details about hers. So sorry... Now, other than the snarky owner/bar tender/waiter - the only other negative thing I can say about this place is it only seats about 24 people. It's very small and tight.
