I went out with my family tonight to a local business we wanted to support. We have never stopped here before, so let's try it...I was really disappointed the ladies in the front really did not seem to care about helping me with a question I had about my receipt. They seemed to only care about helping the next customer, I understand business, but if you want RETURN business, I recommend you make each customer feel welcome and taken care of. Remember there are many ice cream shops to choose from in the area not just your shop. I really wanted this to be a family favorite, but I truly can not say that after my first time visit. First, let me say I am a huge fan of Foster's...the old school ones that still serve burgers, not just the frozen treats. These places are now few and far between, and I seek them out just to have a heavenly 'Big Boss'. :) This location in Carson is currently the closest to me, and I have been there 5 or 6 times. Note: I won't be going back. Every time I've gone, they guy there (owner?) has been rude. Very short with customers, like he's pissed people are actually patronizing his business. The last time I went there, I ordered a Big Boss combo, but instead of a soda I wanted a bottled water. On their signage the cost of a bottled water and a small soda are the same. When he rang me up, he said 'extra for bottle-water.' I just wanted my burger, sans spit -so I didn't say anything. But, then when my food was ready; he put 2 packets of catchup in the bag. Cash only, walk-up ordering, lack of seating, aged facilities and signage, with an ambiance that might make people uncomfortable (read: grimy). But I love it. Banana Split--yum. Fries--yum. Burgers--yum. While every other fast food joint is jacking up the prices, the menu here doesn't seem as bank-breaking. Some people have said the service is rude, but I don't take it as such. Foster Freeze truly never disappoints when it comes to dessert on a hot summer day. Never had a burger but have had their nachos and hot dog in another location many years ago. Anyhow, stopped by here yesterday for a ice cream fix, went with the Reeses Twister, peanut butter cups mixed with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious and went with a small size, which small size to me looks like a medium. Plenty of outdoor seating and inside seating, drive-thru is a plus and they have a nice size parking lot. Didn't realize that a night out with my daughter and nephews for ice cream could be a hazard. We get here and decide we're going to try the walk up window. How unsafe can it be? we exit the truck and before we can even lock the doors a transient approaches and asks for change. Women listen to my warning that this parking lot is not well lit. Pretty unsafe parking lot if you ask me. And this is coming from a dude that's been in a good amount of fights. We walk up to the window and start looking at the vast amount of ad posters on the front glass window. Still deciding on what we want, we hear a loud car horn blaring. Look back and this dude is stopped sideways blocking two lanes. Driver's side door is open and the driver, big Samoan dude is yelling at a car next to him. This Foster's Freeze location has been my spot since I was a baby. All of these years that have passed and everything is still the same. I love getting a cone and french fries on my saddest and happiest days. They changed their fries a few years ago, but they're still good and they give you a grip in the bag. My go-to food menu items are the Fried Burrito or the Texas Toast Grilled Ham and Cheese sandwich. I noticed that they're a littttle more pricier than other soft serve ice cream places, but I still feel like they have decent prices for their ice cream portions. I don't know anyplace else that actually has larger size cones. I dare you to try a large cone, you'll trip out. I used to get a large cone all of the time when I was little, now as an adult its too much ice cream for me lol. Customer service has also grown a tad bit.
