Sesame chicken combination, with chicken fried rice and extra meat.

This is the best Chinese food in the west Lansing area! Never been disappointed. I love that they offer online ordering.

Beef in spicy tea sauce

Finally got to try Fortune House and it was pretty good! I agree with other reviewers that the portions were definitely large enough for two. I ordered the beef in spicy tea sauce and it wasn't really spicy at all in my opinion. It came with quite a bit of vegetables including onion, green pepper, bok choy and baby carrots. My significant other ordered an E2-Pad Prik chicken with extra broccoli and shrimp and he said he probably could have gotten it a little spicier. He also go vegetable fried rice with his dish and I just got regular fried rice. There wasn't a huge difference between the two for the price. I also ordered an egg roll which was pretty standard in flavor and quality for Chinese carry out. We tried the chicken sticks as well and they were a little crispy and had decent flavor. The quantity of food for the price was pretty solid so we may be back to try other dishes in the future. Also, their online ordering system is pretty slick! Easy to use and makes for a pretty quick pickup!

I am thoroughly shocked at the good reviews of this restaurant. Truly shocked. The other week while traveling for work it was the only non chain place that looked remotely interesting in that area so I headed in. The few reviews on yelp were good so I wanted to give this place a try. I ordered the green onion beef with spring rolls. It was during lunch hours but it wasn't on the lunch menu and the waitress proceeded to tell me. "That is not on the lunch menu and its a different price." blink blink blink I didn't see anything on the lunch menu I wanted and the price which was only 1 dollar more than lunch was clearly next to the menu item. blink blink blink The food arrived in about ten minutes piping hot. Unfortunately, the Mongolian beef sauce was flavorless. You might wonder how can a dish covered in yellow and green onions be flavorless. Somehow Fortune House accomplished the impossible. The spring rolls were really mushy inside so I left them after I took one bite. Total after tax was about 11.00. I probably won't have to go back to Lansing, MI for work anytime soon but if I have to I will not be going back to Fortune House.

Pad Ped curry. Not bad for a quick lunch but the curry is a little watery and it's not very hot.

So I was pretty disappointed in this place when I came by for lunch. The service was good enough but the food was not very good . The Tom Yum soup was kind of bland and lacked the heat or unique aroma and flavor usually associated with the lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves and crushed chili pepper broth. The Crab Rangoon was just deep fried dough with very little filling. So, no one gets crab Rangoon to eat healthy, but if I'm taking a hit on my nutrition I'd at least expect some awesome flavor. The curry was pretty watery and lacked any real heat or depth of flavor. I'm not sure I'd give this place another try....

flavorless chicken pad thai

Two stars for the large portions and the food being hot still when it got home. However. If you want Thai food, I do not recommend this place. I can't speak for their Chinese food, but my chicken pad thai tasted absolutely nothing like pad thai. In fact, it really didn't taste like anything at all. Pretty unbelievably flavorless, not sure how they accomplished that. Also my boyfriend got something with beef and said it tasted like Taco Bell beef. The tom yum soup was marginally better but still wasn't great and didn't taste like it's supposed to. Disappointing meal.

Food-wise, our apps were crab Rangoon and steamed chicken dumplings. Both were delicious. The crab rangoons were sufficiently filled with the cream cheese mixture and were crispy. The chicken dumplings were stuffed with ground chicken and mushrooms and were well cooked. For our main, we got the pad Thai curry noodle and the drunken noodles. Our friends enjoyed the drunken noodles while the pad Thai, even though we specified mild twice, was spicy enough. We then ordered a side of white rice to make it palatable. We also ordered dessert because of the spiciness of the main, and got the mango sticky rice and the fried bananas with ice cream. Both were good but I'd probably order something other than the mango sticky rice next time. One star off due to the service. Our waitress was very short with us. When we emphasized wanting the food to be mild, her response was a stern "I got it. That's how we'll make it." even though that wasn't the case, when we said we'll order the mains after we were meet with a huff and asked to hurry up and order the mains along with the apps because the kitchen was very busy that night, after noticing the pad Thai curry noodle was spicy, we thought of ordering a fried rice to manage the spice and her response was frowning to say that it would just take too long now and so we settled on white rice, and after that point we could barely hail her down even though she walked back and forth multiple times. It was like she was annoyed we were dining there! Overall, great ambiance and good food.

It was just the three, but we were charged an automatic gratuity, which I thought was usually only added for larger groups (like six or more). The server handed us the payment device directly instead of bringing the bill with a pen like they normally do, so we didn't carefully review the charges. We ended up paying the total and adding a tip, not realizing gratuity had already been included. We only noticed it after the payment went through. I really wish the server had mentioned that gratuity was already added. If we had known, we would have questioned it before paying. It honestly left a bad feeling, and now I'll probably think twice before coming back.

Deceptive Businesses Practices. Not to be trusted!!…read more I was really craving some good Thai food, so I walked 15 minutes from my hotel to this business for a takeout order. I ordered the gang musmun. When the lady rang me up, the order total seemed high. When she handed me the receipt to sign, it was an even higher price than what she had just stated a moment earlier. I asked her about it, and she told me I had been charged a dollar for the takeout containers. Nowhere on any sign or on the menu does it state there is a charge for takeout containers. I'm pretty sure she was just padding my bill to benefit her business. Outrageous!! After walking so far, and still having to walk back, I just decided to pay the bogus charge since I was tired and hungry. As for the food, it was disappointing. Watery and too heavily seasoned with fish sauce. It tasted like bland heavily salted water. Very disappointing as I've had some amazing curries in my life and know good Thai food. This was not good Thai food. Not even close. I can't judge an entire restaurant based on one dish, but I can tell you, based on this one dish I would definitely not return. That's apart from the bogus extra charge to my bill. As for the restaurant itself. It was dingy, run down and not clean. The menu I was handed to look over was filthy and sticky. I used hand sanitizer after touching it. So gross. Very disappointing experience. I am in Lansing frequently for work and will never return to Bangkok House. If you are in the area looking for Thai food, there are two other restaurants within walking distance, I'd try one of those first if I were you.

End of May will be your last opportunity for an unknown time. We splurged since it might the last time. We stared with the appetizer sampler and it was all delicious. All of it was fresh and delicious. Crispy crab rangoons, moist chicken satay, fresh spring rolls, egg rolls with chicken and some meat rangoon. All complemented with three different sauces with one being a sweet peanut butter sauce. Yum! The Red Pad Thai is amazing as usual. The fresh topping with the flavors from the noodles and sauce go so well together. The peanut curry with chicken were flavored with just the right amount of peanut flavor and spice! I substituted the white rice with their fried rice for an additional $3, but it was sooo worth it! Normally it was only an additional $2 but eggs, enough said. The service was pleasant as usual and never did we need anything. The place hasn't changed much over the last 10 years but you don't have to when your food speaks for itself. The place was good for one to a large group and is always clean Go give it a try before they are possibly gone forever.

If you've never had Thai food before, they can make recommendations based on what you like. Just ask. Thai food is generally spicy. If you generally stick with medium spice when it comes to Chinese or Mexican food, you'll want to try mild spice when it comes to Thai. We will definitely be back!
