The worst $33 I've ever spent. This is a very bad Chinese restaurant. I feel bad saying that because it's am Family owned... I got crab wontons, sesame shrimp, vegetable fried rice. Came on Tuesday at 2:30. The chairs were stacked so you could not sit on any tables. It was very uninviting, and forced you to take take out, which was not my intention- I wanted to eat in the restaurant. The best part was the fried rice and steamed rice. Finally got to try Fortune House and it was pretty good! I agree with other reviewers that the portions were definitely large enough for two. I ordered the beef in spicy tea sauce and it wasn't really spicy at all in my opinion. It came with quite a bit of vegetables including onion, green pepper, bok choy and baby carrots. My significant other ordered an E2-Pad Prik chicken with extra broccoli and shrimp and he said he probably could have gotten it a little spicier. He also go vegetable fried rice with his dish and I just got regular fried rice. There wasn't a huge difference between the two for the price. I also ordered an egg roll which was pretty standard in flavor and quality for Chinese carry out. We tried the chicken sticks as well and they were a little crispy and had decent flavor. The quantity of food for the price was pretty solid so we may be back to try other dishes in the future. Also, their online ordering system is pretty slick! Always consistent, always fresh. I've eaten here probably 100 times. Of those, I've ordered cashew chicken 75 times. It's just so good. I live in grand rapids but have business in Lansing 1 or 2x per week. The food is always super hot when they bring it out and the same 2 people are always there working. Cook and waitress. I need to get to know their names....I swear there isn't one place in Grand rapids that can match them....I've tried....they also have a Thai menu but for some reason my appetite for Thai has diminished....the Tom yum soup is great though! The other week while traveling for work it was the only non chain place that looked remotely interesting in that area so I headed in. The few reviews on yelp were good so I wanted to give this place a try. I ordered the green onion beef with spring rolls. It was during lunch hours but it wasn't on the lunch menu and the waitress proceeded to tell me. "That is not on the lunch menu and its a different price." blink blink blink I didn't see anything on the lunch menu I wanted and the price which was only 1 dollar more than lunch was clearly next to the menu item. blink blink blink The food arrived in about ten minutes piping hot. Unfortunately, the Mongolian beef sauce was flavorless. You might wonder how can a dish covered in yellow and green onions be flavorless. Somehow Fortune House accomplished the impossible. The spring rolls were really mushy inside so I left them after I took one bite. Total after tax was about 11.00. I probably won't have to go back to Lansing, MI for work anytime soon but if I have to I will not be going back to Fortune House. read more

So I was pretty disappointed in this place when I came by for lunch. The service was good enough but the food was not very good . The Tom Yum soup was kind of bland and lacked the heat or unique aroma and flavor usually associated with the lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves and crushed chili pepper broth. The Crab Rangoon was just deep fried dough with very little filling. So, no one gets crab Rangoon to eat healthy, but if I'm taking a hit on my nutrition I'd at least expect some awesome flavor. The curry was pretty watery and lacked any real heat or depth of flavor. I'm not sure I'd give this place another try.... read more

The best Chinese food I have eaten anywhere (and I have eaten a lot of Chinese food). No matter what you try here, the taste is awesome. We tried Kung Pao, General Tsao's and many more varieties. The portions are decent, the prices are ok, but the taste is just out of this world. Their spring rolls are not too good though. We have dined-in and taken out a bunch of times and were a satisfied customer every time. Heck, we like it so much that I even had my graduation lunch with family and friends here. I've been a long time fan of the original Fortune House that closed a few years ago. You can still see the big sign out front of the old building near Autozone on W Saginaw. However, they recently re-opened, taking over the previous restaurant Dok Sing, near Meijer's on W Saginaw. The decor is oddly painted, even for a Chinese restaurant, lots of pastels and fake plants, but the service and food are excellent. The owner's even remembered me! Once people realize they are back, I have a feeling they are going to run out of room, as the dining room is a lot smaller than the original, and not as many places to park. The table settings are mismatched, but of course, that has nothing to do with the flavors of the food. Whenever I went to the old Fortune House, I would almost always order the same. Hot and sour soup, General Tsao's chicken and an egg roll. Always fantastic. They didn't let me down this time, either. The hot and sour soup is spicy, but not so much that it loses the intrinsic flavor. Mushroom's and water chestnuts round out the flavors of the dish. The eggroll is crispy and delicious, done just right. The General, well, what can I say? Awesome chunks of chicken bathed in a spicy sauce with fresh broccoli. No peppers in this recipe, but the flavors don't require anything more. Pro's: Fresh food, awesome flavors and fantastic service. Con's: Poor interior decorating (pastels?) fake plants and mismatched table settings. Limited parking, though you could always park in the Meijer's parking lot and hoof it. read more

Yummy! I love Fortune House because they remember you, no matter how long it is between visits. My favorite dish is the Kung Pao Chicken. But I have yet to try many, many others. This place use to be one of the best Thai/Chinese places that I had eaten at in the area back around 2008-2011, but in the past few years, the taste of the food has severely diminished. I moved out of the area about 7 years ago and only make it back to Lansing about once a year and would always get take-out. The past 3 years the taste food has gotten worse, so much so, that I think this last trip was definitely my last. This is my favorite Thai and Chinese place in the area. They are open a little later on Friday and Saturday night, which is great. I only ever eat take out, everything always has good flavor and is very fresh. I always get the Thai options (their sauces are delicious, they are great about subbing fried tofu for beef or chicken-I get the Gang Ped #E15) while my fiancé always gets the Chinese options (sautéed chicken with veggies-Szechuan Chicken #309).
