My family and I have been ordering takeout from this place for over 10 years now, and it has never disappointed! It's one of those places where, if I come home and find out we're having it for dinner, my day is instantly made! Our go-to dishes are the orange chicken, beef and broccoli, honey walnut shrimp, and lo mein (similar to chow mein, but with fewer bean sprouts and veggies, and no meat). After all these years, we've definitely found our favorites, and they consistently hit the spot! The orange chicken is on the sweeter side, which is actually one of the reasons I love it so much! It's a little different from your typical orange chicken, and that sweetness is what makes it stand out to me. The beef and broccoli is another favorite because you actually get a great balance of beef and broccoli, rather than a plate full of broccoli with just a few pieces of meat. And the honey walnut shrimp? Absolutely delicious! The candied walnuts are easily one of my favorite parts of the dish and add the perfect touch of sweetness and crunch. What really stands out to me is the consistency. We've been coming back for over a decade, and the food has remained just as delicious as we remember it. There's something to be said about a restaurant that can keep you coming back year after year! This is a warning for any one Gluten Free or Celiac. So it's a cute and well designed restaurant. Now for the issues... while they do have a small selection of gluten free items marked on their menu... They don't have tamari, and the service efficient but obstinate and decidedly unprofessional. I politely ask EVERY server helping me what their favorite items are, because the people who eat the food every day have the best ideas for what is good. But instead of being helpful, he rudely argued with me over the question. I ordered the Bean Curd soup, and it was pretty bland. It REALLY would have benefited from some Tamari or something. It was pretty bland. The Moo Goo Gai Pan, was SOOOOO BORING I mentioned to the server to let management know that a $5 bottle of Tamari would help the satisfaction of their gluten free customers, but the server said the owners are not interacting on taking such a minor action While the pricing is fair and affordable the food is so bland that even at their price, it's just not worth it. We came here for early lunch and had a pretty good experience. The inside is nicely decorated, although the restaurant itself isn't very big. It could feel a little cramped when it's busy. They do have an enclosed room on the side that looks like it would be great for larger groups. We saw a long table in there that could probably seat around 10-15 people. We started with the fried chicken wontons and I really liked these! They were nice and crunchy on the outside and had just the right amount of filling. For our main dishes, we got the house special fried rice and lo mein. Both were packed with shrimp, pork, and chicken. Honestly, there was so much protein that it felt like there was almost more meat and shrimp than actual rice or noodles! Definitely not complaining about that. The honey glazed walnut shrimp was also really good. The shrimp tasted fresh, and the sweet glaze with the walnuts was a nice combination. I thought the portions were pretty generous for the price, so there was plenty of food to share and take home. The location at Rossmoor shopping center is a plus. Always a solid choice for lunch. You can't beat their lunch specials. All include soup, salad, an egg roll and entree. Sha cha chicken was super flavorful. The shrimp and broccoli was okay, it was mildly flavored but the broccoli was cooked to perfection - really large pieces with a slight crunch/not over cooked...I will try the garlic shrimp next time... the soup was hot and hot the spot. My My....never knew this place existed until recently. Small "diner" type, maybe 20 tables all together but the food was delicious. Crissy, our server, was perfect. Drinks kept full, dipping sauces always available. The Egg Flower soup, my favorite was excellent along with the Filet Mignon French Style. Fried Chicken Wontons were just right and the Veggie Egg Rolls along with the hot, hot mustard hit the spot. It feels like they just want high turn over and not interested in ensuring that customers feel welcomed. With all that said, we still come back periodically. My first time and my wife's second time. A favorite place of our gourmet cook friend who took my wife her first time. Everything was great including the price for the lunch special. The salad and egg roll was good. The Hot and Sour, and the Egg Drop soups were outstanding. My wife had the Sweet and Sour Chicken which was very good and I had the Kung Pao Chicken which was good and no very spicy, but a little spicy. We just had cold water that tasted very good. I want to start off by saying the food is good. It's a nice spot, but the customer service is terrible. I came in for a visit today to have dinner. The food quality was good. Service was a little slow. I spent a total of $70. I didn't feel the need to leave a tip as I was underwhelmed with the customer service after paying I got up from my chair and started walking out to find myself being chased by one of the servers that wasn't even mine she stated that I needed to leave a tip that it was unacceptable that I did not tip and that if I didn't tip, I would not be welcome back to the restaurant to buy anything. This is very unacceptable and unprofessional behavior and I hope to hear from management in regards to this matter if they are so worried about a tip, they should offer better service better service usually equals a tip will not be returning. read more

This is a nice Chinese restaurant that is modern looking that has 15-16 tables. Prices were reasonable and the service was so so which makes it consistent to a typical Chinese restaurant. This was my first time dining at Fortune Cookies Restaurant, and I will not be back. I came in with my mom around 6pm on a Wednesday. They were somewhat busy, but the host stand was kinda curt and uninviting. Our server was fine. He was quick to take our order and was polite. The food came out pretty quickly, was hot, but honestly, pretty tasteless. I ordered shrimp with lobster sauce. There was no seafood taste to the sauce as one might expect, given the name. It was more like an egg drop soup. I'm unfamiliar with lobster sauce, so honestly, I'm not sure how it's supposed to taste. The sauce was definitely watery, and according to the description was supposed to have water chestnuts. I love water chestnuts, so to see them clearly missing was a disappointment. Also, I think mine had some egg shell mixed in. Yummm... My mom ordered Mongolian beef. When I asked how she liked it, the first words out of her mouth were, "Pick Up Stix is better". Both dishes did come with a small side of white or brown rice, so that was a plus. The pictures on the menu lead you to believe that all the dishes are à la cart. I did get a side of GF shrimp fried rice for lunch the next day. Hopefully that tastes pretty decent. Guess I'll find out tomorrow. We stopped in since they offer GF dishes, and we're in the area, but this place was such a disappointment. We do not see ourselves coming back at all while in the Seal Beach/Los Alamitos area. What a very cool place that a person that I work with took me to. I had no idea this place even existed where I live, which is in Ventura County. I am so glad they recommended us to eat here today because the food was absolutely amazing. The orange chicken that I had was probably the best orange chicken I've ever had in my entire life and I've eaten a lot of orange chicken. The service was absolutely amazing. They've got that thing running like a well oiled machine. So many people doing different things, but when it comes down to it, you are not waiting very long for service at all. The place is super clean. I'll be it very crowded but then again their pricing of their food is spectacular and their food is amazing so therefore I'm not gonna fault them for the fact that the place was crowded. We only had to wait 15 minutes and before you know it, we were sitting down and already eating within I would say another additional 10 minutes. However, the reason why I give it 3 out of 5 is because of the service. Service is quick even when it's mostly full for Saturday late lunch. The interior is nice and some tables have space extenders. Bathrooms are clean but signs say not to flush paper products INCLUDING TOILET paper. I'm sorry but that's unsanitary. Sounds like someone needs updated plumbing. This place is our go to for Chinese takeout. We have also dined in and it was a good experience. It's closer to authentic Chinese than most places and the servers I've seen are mostly Chinese too. The service is quick and efficient, and I can't really complain. The prices are very affordable and the portions are generous. Each dish comes with a side of rice unless you're getting actual fried rice or noodles. I recommend the lo mein, beef broccoli, and the house fried rice. All very flavorful and tasty.
