Kung Pao Chicken I made some major modifications to the order: sliced white meat chicken, No carrots, celery and zucchini it came out great! 4ppl liked everything! I dream about the Mao po tofu here. They use traditional flavors such as bean bard sauce. The dish tasted very authentic and it brought me back memories from my travels in China. I've also had their calamari, house pan noodles, sweet and sour soup, all were excellent for Chinese delivery standards. Upon discovery of this little treasure I thought my life would be changed forever. No more crappy chinese delivery ever again, hip-hip horray! To my dismay, I am devastated to learn late last night that we are no longer on their delivery route(highlands area). The lady on the phone(assuming the owner) politely told me that her drivers marked our residence as "TOO FAR WILL NOT DELIVER" on our file. While I would have liked to review a classier joint for my first time, I just ordered the spicy eggplant from Fortune Cookie and mmmmmmm it was so good that I felt I needed to share.... Until I heard of this place (yes, a well kept secret...I've lived in the area for years and only recently stepped in), the words "Chinese food" and "Atlanta" didn't belong in the same sentence in my mind. Especially Chinese food that actually tastes like something other than a disproportionate combination of soy sauce, MSG, a random and stale piece of crab rangoon, and if you're lucky, the occasional water chestnut. Anyway, this place is awesome...great for take out or delivery. The restaurant itself is small and doesn't have much ambiance (think strip mall, next to Lohemann's...yeah, don't bring a date here) but the good food is much appreciated and they have good lunch specials and dinner sets. Good options for vegetarians are the Ma Po Tofu and the Spicy Eggplant (and I don't even like eggplant...apparently I'm a bad vegetarian). P.S. When I got back to work my food was still hot but when I went to bite in my chicken I might as well have been bitting into rubber. It wasn't edible. Let me start by saying I'm not a huge Chinese food connoisseur. I prefer Vietnamese or Thai usually but a couple of Sunday's back I had a craving. I must say Yelp steered me in the right direction! I have been to a few Chinese buffets in ATL and have been very disappointed. My experience at FCR was so much better. The place was clean, staff was nice, there were several Chinese folks eating here (big plus) and the quality of the ingredients were very good. No, there were not endless pots of every Chinese dish know to America Man, but what they did have was pretty tasty! The price for two and soda's was only $24.00 with tip, so I think it was also a good deal. My only complain is they did not have almond cookies, but I really did not need them, so I guess I can't complain? read more

After a particularly stressful day at work (think 4 hours worth of meetings plus multiple emails and phone calls for a persnickety client), what better way to set things to rights than with Chinese takeout and alcohol? Not much that I can think of. This decision had me on Yelp within the next few minutes searching for the closest, well rated Chinese joint that delivered, and lo and behold, Fortune Cookie appeared. I very much appreciated the online menu (mispellings and all - it gave it that flavor of authentic American-Chinese), and before long, I was on the phone ordering steamed potstickers, sweet corn chicken soup, Mongolian beef and Hunan chicken. The lady taking my order and address spoke English just well enough to be understandable, but just brokenly enough to give the feeling you were getting exactly what you picture when "Chinese takeout" is mentioned. Although the lady said the food would arrive in less than an hour, it came in less than half an hour. Great! Everything was piping hot as I lifted it out of the bag and the amount of food was overwhelming (it was just two of us for all this!). We started out with the steaming corn chicken soup and steamed potstickers. Yum. Both were good - the potstickers a little limp since they'd been sandwiched together to transport, but everything was still quite tasty. Then the main events: a little super sticky white rice topped with lots of Mongolian beef (other people were right - that sauce is pretty sweet and sugary) and Hunan chicken (beware the whole red chilis lurking around in the sauce - hot, hot, HOT). The meat was well done - cooked just right and sliced to almost reasonably sized bites for the most part. There were lots of fresh veggies in both dishes: broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts, mushrooms, peppers and onions and leeks and baby corns. A little too saucy, but now I know for next time to try and get it on the side, and even after sitting on my kitchen counter for 20 minutes while we worked on the appetizer and soup, the little containers were still almost too hot to handle! If you're craving old-school Chinese and you want take-out or delivery, I would recommend Fortune Cookie. I've gotten take out from here a couple times now, and I've been pretty satisfied. Fortune Cookie Restaurant lives in a shopping complex with quite a few food options. The hotel I call my ATL home is right down the street (shout out to the Doubletree off N Druid), so Fortune Cookie is both convenient and appreciated. If you keep up with some of my reviews, you'll know that I travel for work and crave Chinese food a lot. And even though I am an ABC, I always say that my stomach is a FOB.* So, of course, once a week I need to feed it some form of Asian food. This is hands down the best Chinese Restaurant that I have been to in the city. A friend of mine implored me to take a visit to this spot, and one random night I did. I was not dissapointed at all. I got a Mongolian Beef type dish and it was absurd how fantastic it was. The service is quick, attentive and nice. There werent too many ppl in the restaurant, I cant wait to go back to this spot. The staff has always been friendly on the phone and courteous when I came to pick it up. This place has some solid dishes. The orange chicken is awesome. The steamed broccoli and chicken is YUM!! I was surprised at how large the portions are. You could definitely share a plate.The yakatori is awesome- light glaze compliments meat. Soups are pretty good. Here is the problem....it's not the fact that it is Americanized Chinese food. I get it, I understand. There is a clear market for this type of food, and not everyone has a taste for 'authentic'. I do crave Americanized forms of food here and there and there as well and there are differences between these Americanized restos. Some are better than others, yeah? So...this is more like a Chin Chin rather than a #1 Chinese Takeout. I got some standard chicken in green beans with the fried rice, crab and egg roll, the usual fried sides. I'll give them this...at least it looked fresh to the eye and the green beans were cooked crisp and correctly. The wonton soup broth was bland, and the wonton was thick. The fried rice was subpar. I would say that the green beans were the hit of my meal if it weren't drowning in sauce. Sweeeeeet sauce. It is so sweet. So sweet. Borderline diabetic shock. I get it. The American palate for Chinese food: Chicken in broccoli, extra sweet please. Kung Pao Chicken, extra sweet please. Sesame Chicken, extra sweet please. Mongolian Beef, extra sweet please. You get the picture. Can I have some food with that sugar please? Thank you. Look, the lunch special menu said my dish was supposed to be spicy. haha. The joke's on me. I realize you aren't getting any spiciness in Chinese joints unless you are going to Tasty China or the like, which sometimes still isn't spicy enough. Here is another problem, the 'quick' service. Yeah, it's damn quick alright. My food came out in about 50 seconds. Huh? What's that? I love quick service, but not that quick. 50 second service indicates a problem with my meal. Look. If everything wasn't so sweet, it wouldn't be a half-bad Americanized Chinese food joint. But I have a damn headache from all that sweetness, and that makes me cranky. This place doesn't look like much, but what they lack in panache, they make up for with good food and excellent service. I had the Wonton Soup, which was very good (but not earth-shattering), and the Mongolian Combination, which was a very healthy portion and came with a bowl of rice. By the time I finished, I was stuffed, and was stunned to be presented with a check for only $15.00. This is my absolute favorite Chinese Restaurant. It may not be the fanciest place to eat. But, the food is fresh and perfectly cooked. The sweet and sour shrimp has a wonderful tempura type batter that is served crisp and not soggy. The egg drop soup isn't "slimy" as in most other Chinese restaurants. To clarify--this is not a buffet type restaurant. But, they have a small one on Sundays. I am not usually a big buffet type person. So, that is probably why I like this place so much. But, the Sunday buffet is a great chance to taste a variety of their menu. It doesn't give you a huge selection-- Just about 10 items or so. But, it is the freshest Chinese buffet that I have ever tried. The food doesn't sit out there for hours. It seems to be replenished routinely in just the right amount to keep everything fresh. We usually order the "Dinners For 3 or 4" It comes with Sizzling Rice Soup--(which isn't bad--but we substitute the Egg Drop Soup) And, we substitute Fried Rice instead of White Rice. It also comes with an additional appetizer--beef terriyaki on a stick. If you eat in the restaurant, you get orange slices as an added treat at the end of the meal. They are nicely chilled and very sweet. Menu Items We Would Recommend: Sweet & Sour Shrimp or Chicken, Egg Drop Soup, Spring Rolls, Crab Ragoons, Mongolian Beef, Chicken Terriyaki, Mu Shu Shrimp, Fried Rice, Somewhat ok-- Egg Fu Yung -- is good but usually needs a little more salt. Do not recommend-- Won Ton Soup is the only thing that I think they need to really improve-- It is pretty bland. Service is usually pretty good. We usually prefer delivery though--which is nice and convenient. Price is somewhat moderate. -- Definitely not your Fast Food/Delivery Chinese rate-- But, not "high end" either. read more

I'm convinced this is the best Americanized Chinese restaurant in Atlanta. The food is always great, service is speedy (especially around the lunchtime craze, surprisingly) and it's priced very reasonably. All the servers are incredibly nice and the owner is very friendly, walking around greeting customers. The lunch menu is just a small portion of their dinner menu but features all the usual favorites. The lunch portions include soup, rice and an eggroll in the entrée. And they are rather big lunch portions and usually leave me with plenty for dinner. All for $6-8. And the dinner entrees are huge. One is usually plenty for 2, especially if you get soup as well. I love getting the cold noodles appetizer as a meal with some soup. I always have a huge amount of leftovers. The dinner entrees are a little bit more pricey, but the leftovers will feed you for at least 2 more meals. And for real, the service is incredibly speedy. It almost sickens me to think about how much money they make during lunch because they are able to get so many people in and out in such a short span of time. I am hardly able to finish my bowl of soup because they bring out the entree and I'm not a slow eater. It's the fast. So it's the perfect lunch spot. Yay for yummy Chinese food! read more

I don't quite understand what all the hoopla is about here. It's pretty standard and relatively tasty Americanized Chinese fare. They do give you a ton of food for the money and judging from the looks of the clientele, it's much appreciated. They're also very quick here and the service, as mentioned in other reviews, is undeniably good. The main thing that Fortune Cookie has going against it, is that it's awfully close to Buford Highway's smorgasbord of more authentic, and perhaps less generic Asian cuisine. Simply put the friendliest servers I've ever had. Super happy during the whole meal. Add to it that the food was great and well priced and I'm sold. The hype is true. This is the place to go. The menu is huge and filled with normal chinese dishes and a few surprises. I really want to try the Peking duck at some point. We had crab rangoons which were huge and super crispy. I didn't like the cherry sauce, but the duck sauce was fine. The mongolian beef was not overly sweet and was a good portion. If you like meat get the mandarin beef ribs. They're the best! If you have a craving for some decent Americanized Chinese takeout, then I'd recommend Fortune Cookie to you. It's above average when compared to other Americanized Chinese takeout restaurants. It still is Chinese takeout, however. If you're looking for more authentic dishes you should head to Buford Highway. Service speed is extremely fast when they're not busy. I usually go to Fortune Cookie when it's late and I have no motivation to cook. Both times I ordered from there, the food was ready by the time I got to the restaurant. I should also note that this is earlier than the time which is promised over the phone. Not sure how fast this place is during regular dinner hours. Food, as I said, is above average for a Chinese takeout restaurant, but it's still Chinese takeout. The stir fry dishes are big and have plenty of meat and vegetables. Vegetables are your usual potpourri of broccoli, carrots, and mushrooms. Meat is soft and tender - almost too soft. For the Hunan beef, the sauce is okay. I never expect takeout sauce to be amazing - I'd say it's what you usually get when you order Hunan beef takeout. The "beef and scallops sizzling" dish is a little better than the Hunan beef. I appreciate how they don't skimp on the scallops. The chicken dishes vary a bit. I liked their house special chicken, which had big chunks of meat and a sauce I liked. Sesame chicken, though, was not as impressive. This dish has flat pieces of fried meat, which were a little bit on the dry side. Good sesame chicken is juicy - this one wasn't. I'd give Fortune Cookie three and a half stars if I could. A nice touch is that there are holes poked in the tops of the takeout containers so the steam can escape. Just be careful not to let the containers tilt when you're in the car. read more

This is the best Chinese place ever. Okay, it's my wife and I's favorite. We both suffer from really bad cravings for this place and it doesn't take too much to convince us to go. We get the same thing everytime for the most part because what we get is just too good to branch out. Dinner for 2. The sizzling rice soup is my absolute favorite part of the meal. We both just can't get over how good it is. Then you get spring rolls and a piece of nicely marinated meat (not sure what it's called) and those set you up perfectly for you meal. My wife always gets the Mongolian Beef and I get the Sesame Chicken usually. There is a huge portion that makes for a great lunch the next day too. This was the first time we have tried Fortune Cookie and we were pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look like much from the outside but when you walk in it is fairly spacious with a nice atmosphere. We ordered the sesame chicken and the string bean chicken. Both were fantastic! Everything tasted fresh from the chicken, to the beans, to the egg rolls. The server also boxed up our leftovers for us which is always a nice touch. It is a bit expensive but you get HUGE portions so there is usually leftovers or enough to share around the table. Really loved this place. IT IS NOT A BUFFET, even if Yelp keeps bringing it up on a search for "Chinese Buffet". Even though I was looking for a buffet, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and portion sizes. I figure it was better to share 2 huge delicious dishes and pay $25, than to suffer through the usual Chinese buffet for the same price and much lower quality. Mapo Tofu - excellent. I have been here three or four times in the last couple years, but since we moved nearby, we tried it again with higher hopes that we would settle on this place as our local Chinese spot. We got several takeout dishes- orange beef, Mongolian beef, chicken with Chinese vegetables, pork fried rice, crab rangoon, spring rolls etc. Everything was fine, nothing was bad, nothing was fantastic. I have lived in Atlanta for 4 years now, and I am so glad I made this discovery. I tried so many Chinese restaurants in Atlanta that were lack luster or just plain disgusting. However, the Fortune Cookie far surpassed my expectations. When dining in or for take out, you get very large portions so you definitely have left overs. The food has never been soggy and always delicious. I have tried the General Tso's, Chin Pe chicken, Orange Beef, String bean chicken, and Sweet and Sour Chicken - all have been absolutely delicious. If I have to eat Chinese, this is where I like to go. The 5 stars is for what I consider the best Chinese food I've had in town - it's not really 5 stars for the best food of all cuisines. I'm not a huge Chinese food fan, but I first went here over 10 years ago. I was a regular here until I discovered Thai food. I just went back this last weekend and was pleased to see the quality of the food is still superior. They use high quality meat and vegetables. You don't feel MSG-ill after eating it. It's not greasy. The service is outstanding - the server was always there at just the right moment. The aquariums are cool. The crab rangoons were delicious (although very filling because there were six of them). The General Tso's chicken had a nice kick to it and the chicken fried rice was yummy. We came here on the recommendation of a friend. The food was okay. I was pleased with the chicken in black bean sauce. However, I was disappointed in my own dish, Szechuan style shrimp. For something calling itself Szechuan, it was surprisingly lacking in spice and flavor. I can handle a lot of heat, and when something says it's spicy, I want it spicy. I had lunch here with my best friend today. Nice chinese restaurant. I had shrimp lo mein and wonton soup. My friend also had the shrimp lo mein and egg drop soup. Both the egg drop and wonton soup were good. Service was great, we were seated right away and our food did not take long at all.
