What I had at the bar was fine. But the long-haired bartender constantly ran through her fingers on hair while I was there. Then she made drinks. She didn't use tongs to grab limes. So the food was good! It didn't blow me away, but it was solid and not overpriced. What really stood out to me, was the service. Our server Chelsea was THE BEST! She was so kind, and attentive, and got everything right. My wife and I wanted to travel a bit (Central Jersey natives) so we picked Forte for our anniversary dinner. Chelsea helped make the night so special for us. She was so sweet about our special night, and made us feel like VIPs. Her recommendations were on-point, and she helped us order the perfect bottle of wine. Her sense of humor had us cackling at the table! I had the Linguine Vongole which was great! My wife was on the fence about what to order, and Chelsea recommended the chicken martini, which was right up her alley! Sophisticated setting with a really nice bar. For me it was more about the scene than the food. Lively atmosphere on a Saturday night that got a bit loud. Some customers were dressed very nicely- others not so much. Apps and drinks came out quickly. Bread and olive oil were both very good. Entrees took over an hour even though we sat down at an early sided 6:30. We were a group of 10 with a lot to talk about so we didn't mind the wait. (maybe staff saw that we weren't in a rush) Our waitress had a bit of hard time telling us the specials due to large table but did a great job otherwise. Food was more towards old school Italian - all satisfactory. Drinks and wine were reasonably priced. Bartenders were attentive. Friendly valet parkers were a nice touch - location is the ground floor of apartment building on the only high rise street in Bergen County so self-parking is limited. read more

On a literal whim, and at the luck of the spinning wheel of fate, I landed at this restaurant with my new VP earlier this week for an impromptu welcome dinner as I rejoined my company. I was tasked with picking a spot while we were in the car, and knowing nothing about the local cuisine, I landed on Forte during my Yelp search. What resulted was literally one of the most delightful culinary experiences I've ever had. I have been very diligently taking weight loss medication for the past six months, and I have lost more than 50 pounds. If I gained back 10 lbs from this meal, it would have been worth it. I haven't had an appetite in what feels like forever, but just thinking of the sliced fried potatoes and the Veal Martini makes my mouth immediately water. The veal was fork tender, and melted on the tongue. The beurre blanc sauce had just enough garlic and lemon to enhance the flavor of the veal without overpowering it. And the potatoes...I don't even like sliced potatoes. I have never enjoyed a potato like that and may never again (until my next trip to NJ, which will almost certainly include a trip to Forte!). The restaurant is lovely. The service is superb. The bread and butter itself was delightful. But I cannot stop thinking of the veal and potatoes. Words cannot describe. Thank you! Thank you for a trip back into my childhood in London where we ate veal at many meals. Thank you for allowing me to realize that I can still truly enjoy food even while losing weight. I live across the street and couldn't wait for this restaurant to open. Last night I went with my neighbors and we were not disappointed. First class treatment given upon arrival, and throughout our stay. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Classy decor, beautiful setting. The food we ordered was plentiful in serving size, fresh seafood, crisp salad, the burrata was perfectly made, as was the stuffed artichoke. Our main dishes were superbly executed, kudos to the chef. I noticed that our party were not the only ones enjoying their food, as the overall ambience was conducive for a high-end dining experience, at a very reasonable price. First off, despite the name, this is NOT a pizzeria. We were initially seated in the dining room, but the menu had no pizzas. They then moved us to the bar area where they said we could order a pizza, but the menu there only had a few items they called "pizzettes". Still confused over what was going on, I asked if we could just order a regular pizza. The waitress had to go check, then came back and said the regular pizzas were only for delivery/take-out, but they would let us order one. Except there were no menus for regular pizzas, but we could just tell her what we'd like. So we ordered a large pepperoni, but I'm guessing what they brought out was one of the "pizzettes". And it was probably the worst pizza I've ever had in New Jersey. The crust had exactly the same cardboard-like texture and flavor of a frozen pizza. With almost no sauce. read more

I attended a family celebration in their upstairs private space this past weekend. Not only was it a beautiful venue, but the service was exceptional. Due to some recent dietary restrictions I have, I needed different food than what had been planned by the hosts of the party. I was prepared to just not eat. Someone communicated my needs to the staff and they went out of their way to accommodate me and one of the owners even checked in to ensure I was taken care of. My food was exactly what I needed and everyone at my table was raving about their dishes! Other things I liked: It was raining when I arrived but there was a covered awning and valet parking. Hi friend, I have been at this restaurant twice during "happy hour ". First time I was there a had a small plate of calamari. It was nothing special the drinks were $$$$ for no particular reason, Seating at the bar was packed with the manager and his GUYS. The rest of the seats were occupied by older people nursing drinks. (food and service) But this specific review is focused on a private event we just had (My Wife's Birthday!) We could say enough wonderful things about how this turned out. My wife worked directly with ownership and the staff to coordinate a group of 22 couples. They provided us with a private room and helped organize and AMAZING MENU that catered to our guests - Delicious!!! We live in Essex County and have been regulars at Forte Caldwell forever. I recently heard they opened this restaurant in Hackensack and had to check it out. Wow am I impressed. It looks absolutely amazing and the service was outstanding. They have valet parking and an expansive well stocked bar. They offer a lot of familiar menu items but also a great selection of steaks and chops. I ordered the beet salad and lamb chops. Everything was delicious. If you like beautiful restaurants with great food and service I strongly recommend heading there. read more

I was recently there on an early Saturday evening. I was to wait for some friends at the bar. I was immediately visited by one of the many managers at the front door saying sorry the bar is full. I was asked if I wanted to sit in one of the tables in the dark side room by myself. I said no thank you it's too dark and scary back there. So I decided to wait at the part of the bar that was blocked off knowing I would not be there too long. I knew my friends would be there soon. I was reprimanded in front of the other bar patrons and was so embarrassed,I decided to leave. The new management is awful. The food is decent but very overpriced. The room is nicely furnished but for some reason it's VERY LOUD IN the place...can't speak on the service since I wasn't given a chance to experience it. read more
