I have to say I'm so disappointed. I've been coming here since I was a kid and I'm in my mid 40s now. We went the other night with a big group, which is not new. We've always made a reservation in the past when we are a big group. There were 11 of us and we were told we could not make a reservation, so we waited over 30 min for a table. Service was shotty at best. I know our waitress has been there forever so this wasn't an issue with a new server. We had to ask for plates for our appetizers and pizza, the table wasn't bussed between pizza and entrees and the food that came out was just meh. The fries were mealy and under cooked and we could see the bag of fries just sitting out when the kitchen door opened which I'm pretty sure is a food safety issue. Loved it here! Kenny was super attentive. Calamari was SOME OF THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD! Sauce left much to be desired but the calamari itself was so crispy and soft, it didn't even need any sauce... just a bit lemon. MUST GET! Pizza was good, super thin. The steak was not for me. Update to my prior review, which was for takeout. Our 1st experience dining in was fantastic. We dropped by for an early Sunday lunch at around 11:30am and, as we had expected, it was very quiet inside of this old school bar/restaurant. There were just 2 other diners sitting together and that was it. Our waitress, Colette, was awesome. She was super nice and attentive throughout our time here. We ordered a large regular/cheese thin crust pizza and a single open slice steak sandwich. The pizza was even BETTER than the first time that I came here for takeout, mainly because it was hot out of the oven and sooooooo fresh. There really isn't anything better than a super fresh pizza right out of the oven. As advertised, the pizza was very thin and crispy and, honestly, absolutely PERFECT. As good as a bar pie will ever get. The open slice steak sandwich was also GREAT! The steak was juicy, flavorful and tender. It came with a small salad and fries and I actually really enjoyed the small salad, which came with their house dressing. And the fries reminded me of Nathan's fries. Overall, this establishment is AWESOME. I'm sure it gets crowded during peak times on weekends, but if you're seeking a low-key, quiet environment at a restaurant that serves ridiculously good pizza, Lido's the perfect spot on weekend afternoons. read more

After packing and loading up all the handcuffs and stuff from the 2025 NY-NJ Police Collectors Show Dave Cavaliere and I headed off to nearby Hackensack for a visit to the iconic Lido Restaurant. Lido, which has been around since 1956 still retains that nostalgic, old school, family owned bar & grill vintage vibe, even after being renovated in 2028. Famously known for their thinny thin pizza (8.1 on the Portnoy scale) and their legendary thinly sliced, open faced steak sandwiches, you know this was on my mind. I love throw back, divey, retro style joints and Lido's certainly fits that bill. Lido's small but full bar, leather booth seating, and vintage decor creates a warm, cozy, tight, and welcoming atmosphere, and the service was fast and friendly (thank you to our server, Madison). We ordered the small pie as an appetizer, and it met all expectations. Very thin and crispy crust, good sauce, no flop, and crunched in you mouth when taking a bite. Simple, but very tasty and satisfying. I could easily consume a whole pie myself. Next time I go back I probably will. Definitely a thumbs up ! It also went well with a couple of ice cold beers. The open face steak sandwich was also a hit. Thin slices of juicy, tender, flavorful steak over a thin slice of bread, and covered with a nice sized portion of perfectly fried french fries. It also came with a side of cole slaw, (you have a choice of soup, salad, or the slaw) which was so good it tasted like a dessert. Great stop, good food, you should give them a visit. The sliced steak sandwich is a must as well, we added the sautéed onions but that's optional. The steak was soft and flavorful, and the bread was good too. The sangria was really good too! You could probably eat a half pie alone, not because it's small, but because it's tasty. Fries are crinkle cut and always nice and crispy. Their steak sandwich is a staple. It was a little cold by the time we got home, but still very tasty and clearly would've been perfect fresh out of the oven. The open-face steak sandwich with fries was another standout. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, buttery and tender, and the fries held up well. We also got the wedge salad, which was fresh and made a great palate cleanser. Lido has that great local spot feel -- unpretentious, consistent, and friendly. Even with takeout, the food was solid. We'll definitely be back, maybe to dine in next time. We recently celebrated my grandfather's 100th birthday there with a bunch for family/friends. Keven and his team were so lovely and helpful. The food was delicious, and we were well taken care of it. I am a big fan of thin crust pizza. My husband heard about Lido in Hackensack from that Barstool guy, who, as I've stated before, is not my favorite person, but that's OK. I just need that to be known any time I mention him. Anyway, my husband has been to Lido's before and this was my first time here. The vibe inside is very cool. As someone stated before, it's like the restaurant has been frozen in time. We came for lunch in the middle of the week and it was not crowded at all. We decided to sit at the bar because the vibe just called for it. Our bartender was very nice. The service was great! We ordered a side of onion rings to start and they were very good. The perfect sized onion ring for sure. I do wish the portion was a bit bigger though because they were so good, and splitting between the two of us just meant they disappeared very quickly. For pizza, we decided to indulge in our own personal pizzas. My husband ordered half jalapeno / half plain, and I ordered half mushroom / half plain. When the pizzas came out they definitely looked delicious and thin, just the way I like pizza! The only problem was - it wasn't very flavorful at all! I am not usually a garlic / parm cheese / seasoning topper kind of girl, but after the first slice I was pouring all those toppings on just to give the pizza some kind of flavor. The sauce didn't taste like anything to me (I swear I didn't have Covid) and it just tasted like pita chips with some crispy cheese on top. I was kind of disappointed because it looked like a perfect thin slice of pizza to me. Maybe I came on an off day? Have been on the hunt for really good pizza in bergen county and I had heard good things about Lido. Upon entering it gave old school NJ Italian restaurant vibes perfect on a cold night. We started with the fried zucchini and a cesar salad both were good. Went for the famous thin crust pizza and I was highly disappointed. The dough was more like a Florida dough and not NJ dough. The cheese was really good but that sauce was lacking flavor & bland. I live in Clifton and use to go to the Grande Saloon and my go to order was the "Kansas City" which was sliced steak on top of white toast smothered in drawn butter, accompanied by great fries. Well sadly it was sold years ago and the food became inedible and it's been years since I had one. (It has since re-opened all remodeled and new menu). Anyway lido's world famous steak is actually better! Only issue is I ordered medium and it came out with no pink, the steak is so thin maybe they should ask how you want it cook. My family has been going here forever, my parents even decided on my name here. So naturally, it has become my favorite restaurant. Let me start by saying that it is a total dive on the outside. Even the inside is dated and old. But that is really what makes this place so amazing. The waitresses have been working here forever so service is always consistent. Of course if you're coming at a very busy time it will be a bit slow, but that's true with any restaurant The food here is amazing every time. I have never been disappointed. I know everyone always raves about their sliced steak sandwiches, but I love the chicken parm. Their sauce is perfect and the portion is huge. Rather than a side of pasta, I always go for fries and they always come out hot and perfect. Their pizza is perfectly thin crust and so yummy. I have never had a mediocre slice of pizza here. I did not know what to expect, but I have heard so much praise I had to give it a try. And let me tell you, everyone was right! This place is so much fun. There is a full service bar and a fully functioning jukebox in the back of the restaurant. No wonder they have had no problem staying in business for 65 years!! The pizza here is fantastic. Maybe the thinnest and crispiest pizza I have ever had, and I am blown away. And surprisingly, the calamari was fantastic too. It felt light and airy and full of flavor.
