I follow Yelp and don't really try places with lackluster reviews. However, someone who I thought knew good pizza told me to check this place out. Started off with the artichoke and spinach dip, to say it was gross, is an understatement. The chips are stale the dip lacked any form of cheese and for 13.95 there was not a lot of it, we sent it back. The house salad was the pinnacle of this meal and it was slightly better then average, the steak sandwich tastes how it looks, mediocre. The French onion soup was bland. The fries that came with the sandwich cold and soggy. The pizza is super thin crust it's almost like a matza crust. The sauce and cheese were just ok. We ordered the 2 dishes everyone raves about: the sliced steak sandwich and the pizza. Oy! I don't know where to begin but the fries were under cooked frozen Orida fries. As for the steak? Steak 'ums would have been better. It was sitting on soggy flat wonder bread without the crust. The pizza? There was no dough. It was thin and hard as if they used tortillas instead of pizza dough. Finally got to Lido last week for the first time in a while after seeing parking is allowed across the street at the bank when closed. Tried takeout first and loved our thin crust pizza and the famous open faced steak entree so much and the vibe and decor of the restaurant we saw when picking up our food, that we went back yesterday with four family members. Got a small pie for an app so all could try it and they all loved it. The entrees that came with salad, soup or coleslaw were all delicious as well (although all except me had the open faced steak- all consistent in ordered temp). I went with a classic spaghetti and sausage cooked perfectly with a tasty marinara sauce. That said, aside from the delicious food, it was little things that made our visit perfect. Like providing sharing plates without having to ask, for both our app and dessert, good delivery timing between our app, salad and entrees (not rushed) and delicious cocktails including a correctly made Old Fashioned. Also, prices especially for drinks were very reasonable compared to other places we go to and our guests were all amazed at portion sizes of entrees and sides. Caitlin our primary server was wonderful and personable. So glad we decided to go and we will now add this to our rotation of restaurants we dine in at. Thank you Lido! read more

WOW! Came across Lido's after watching Dave's One Bite pizza review. I am not going to lie I was a bit surprised to see 3.5 stars on Yelp. But I will say this is some of the best pizza in the area. Especially if you like the bar style. I used to drive down to Star Tavern in West Orange or Kinchley's in Ramsey. But I am happy to say I can get my fixing 10 mins away from home. The crust is SUPER THIN and CRISPY just as a great bar pie should be, the sauce has a good tang and kick to it, and lastly the cheese I love that it isn't super greasy. They also have a full bar so you can get some cold beer from local brewers to wash down your pie. The interior is awesome, leather booth seats like your in the Sopranos era. TL;DR - Great bar pie, some of the best pizza in the area. read more

Decided to give this place a second chance. My boyfriend and I ordered from here during the height of the pandemic. We were at Hackensack Brewing and needed something to eat and Lido's is literally across the street... so we ordered. I wish I had a picture of the disgrace that was delivered. It was absolutely lacking in flavor. As I said, today was chance #2. Out of the damn park!! I'm so glad we came in. The pie was everything I was craving and then some. While we were waiting I said "should we have asked for it well done?" What came out was more than I could have hoped for. It had a few burnt spots, some burnt/crispy cheese spots... absolute perfection. Lido's is fully redeemed. This is part of our pizza circulation! Once again, the pizza pie is thin, no flop, good sauce and just the right amount of cheese. Service has always been prompt and welcoming. Ambience is a little dark but over all has a great old school charm. You can see that the own values their customers. The parking is eh. Across the street but not a deal breaker. I concur with the rest of the reviews. This is an unassuming but classic spot. It gives Holstens from The Sopranos vibes. The staff is older and not as traditional but very efficient and consistent regardless. The atmosphere is relaxed and jovial. We ordered a martini and the 701 punch, both tasty (assuming little alcohol ratio) and for food the meatballs app and marguerita thin crust pizza, delicious. For price, vibes and food is say it's a winner. We spent $50 which all things considered is good for the area. The loss of a star is for parking mainly as it was difficult to find. It seems the Wells Fargo bank across the street is popular but not sure of the risk. All in all I would recommend and return. read more

Amazing think crust, bar pizza with a crispy, cracker like crust is delicious! Love the old school vibe of the place and can see why they have been in business for 65 years! On my recent visit, we had had an appetizer of Buffalo wings which were simple, breadingless, and with good flavor with a slight kick. French onion soup was delicious. Good selection of local beers on tap with seasonal & tasty cocktails. Had amazing service including a sweet, petite older lady who I wanted to take home and adopt her as my grandma. Hackensack is known for its history, but there's much more to Bergen's county seat than old buildings and Revolutionary War ties. Much of the city's culinary landscape has been there and back again. Opened since 1956, Lido is a perfect example of a Jersey old school restaurant which my partner, our friends and I came tonight for dinner. The new owners did keep that retro look which we liked (nostalgia), but with some improvements; cleaner, new bathrooms, redone booths and now accepts credit card. First of all, our waitress which we believe her name was Gigi had no people skills. But...we're not here for a standard customer service experience with a smile, we're here for the pizza or the open steak sandwich. For starter, we began with bacon cheese fries which was large enough for sharing. For our main meal, we've gotten a small thin crust pizza with mushrooms and extra cheese, another small thin crust pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms, and 2 orders of the open sliced steak sandwich with fries which came with a side of coleslaw or small salad. They also offer steak entrees and several Italian dishes. The food seems the same taste wise. All good, but here's the catch, all prices went up and the portions did seem to be adjusted toward the smaller end. Overall a good dining experience with friends but would stick with the pizza. read more

I Called up and said I was coming in to have a pizza at the bar. I walked in and the server gives me a box of pizza. I had said I was having it there. She puts it on the counter and begins to walk away so I said can I have a dish. Then I had to ask about having a napkin. I had wanted to have a coors light so she started reaching in the cooler for a bottle without asking me if I had wanted it on tap. So I finished eating with finishing my beer as she didn't bother asking me if I had wanted another beer or anything else that is. I've been there so many times but this was the absolute worst experience at Lido's. On my way out the door I asked the other waitress if she was new and she said no. I actually feel sorry for Lido's for keeping someone like that on. I hope management reads this review as he was actually sitting at the end of the counter witnessing part of this. I can't say I haven't tried. I've left two prior reviews, neither good. I was hoping that I'd be able to leave a better one now, but I can't. My husband and I were in the area on yesterday, and we wanted to grab an early dinner. We were in the area, so he suggested that we give the Lido one more try, especially since my mother-in-law, who has been away for a long time, has wanted to go back and I'm not going to bring her back if the food is substandard. The good points: The air conditioning was as frosty as it has ever been, and that was a good thing given the heat of yesterday. Our waitperson, Jillian, couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. She is really an asset to the whole restaurant. The 701 cocktail that I had was dangerously delicious, as was the cocktail my husband had, some form of mule that I can't recall the name of. Now onto the bad points. My husband and I both ordered the sliced steak, medium, with fries. The bread that the sliced steak sat on, was too thick and dry, not to mention hardly toasted. In addition to this, the melted butter that used to be on the toast, and on the steak, was barely present, which made the toast almost inedible and the meat not nearly as tasty as it should have been. In fact, I ate the "toast" because bread is no longer provided. The salad was OK, I miss the olives that it used to have and I also miss the fabulous blue cheese dressing, which I've mentioned in my previous reviews. This blue cheese dressing still tastes like it came straight out of the bottle. We decided to top off the meal with cake roll with chocolate syrup and whipped cream, which we shared. Almost 6 dollars for a slice of cake roll that was half the thickness of what it used to be is a bit...much. A word of advice: since everybody seems to rave about the pizza, and I certainly can't complain about the cocktails, why don't you just give up on the menu now, turn yourself into a pizzeria l, drop the pretense of having anything other than pizza, and call it a day. I know some might enter here and think this place looks like your old basement with dark wood, dim lighting, artwork from the 60's/70's with just a touch of a familiar odor - musty maybe? Like a billions cigs might have been smoked here back in the day mixed with a flooding or two? Either case, it instantly felt homey. Like I was a child back at my grandparents house playing in the basement as my grandmother hung all her wet clothes on her makeshift drying line. For some reason though, the ambiance and decor works divinely with the food they serve. Food is simple here. My super thin crust pizza was perfectly balanced with gooey cheese and my tender sliced steak (roast beef) was glistening with melted gold (butter). My throw together salad of iceberg lettuce, chopped onion, and black & green olives was just the right accompaniment with their homemade Italian dressing. My hubby's burger was enough to satisfy him with what seemed to be an endless bowl of krinkle cut fries. Our sodas were ice cold just the way we like them and were often refilled. $40 bucks later we had laughed the whole time while reminiscing and creating stories about the patrons around us. Read your reviews first so you aren't shell shocked if you often dine classy. However I totally welcomed the warm memories of the good ol' days! We shall definitely return! Ordered ahead online. Wait time was 40 minutes. No problem for us as we were picking up and taking two pies to a local brewery. Arrived after I had received notification that my order was ready. Bartender printed the ticket and asked the runner to grab the pies. Runner came back and said there was no order with my name. Bartender asked for clarification and I heard the runner say there was no order. Bartender went back to investigate and came back. Said the kitchen was running behind and it would just be a few more minutes. Then I watched as she entered my order in again. After 15 minutes more I asked the bartender if my order never was prepared. She again said it was the kitchen being backed up. Restaurant was half filled at the time with plenty of extra tables. So after waiting another 30 minutes inside, I finally received two pies that were just meh. Own up to your mistakes and offer to make it right. Lying just stinks. Not worthy of an 8.2 read more

Another year, another 'Best Of' pizza list by Pete G. on nj.com (I'm a sucker for all of his food lists, I won't lie). In the preliminary Top 50 for 2017 is a place I never heard of before - Lido's. The family needed to investigate immediately. It's just a few paces from the almighty Cosmo's Deli (they make a killer sandwich!) so I had a good feeling when we walked in. When your eyes adjust (it's dimly lit, maybe so you won't stare too long at the old-school paneling or the taped up seats in the booth) you realize it's as if the Belmont Tavern and Kinchley's got into a fist fight in a back alley (fun fact: all three of these places are cash only!). Think I'm exaggerating that you'll feel like Eisenhower is still president when you walk into the place? There's a damn payphone in the front of the restaurant in the waiting area! The place is hectic, the waitresses definitely don't have time for your nonsense so order fast cause it's going to take a while. The thin crust pizza is absolutely delicious. We savaged two medium pizzas in mere seconds. (We probably could've finished off a third, if we're being honest.) Bonus: they only have a handful of the classic (boring) dive bar beers available but one of them I never had before, Molson Golden, that was crisp, clean and cold that went perfect with our cracker-thin pizza. Lido's has really good thin crust pizza. My first time trying them and I wasn't disappointed. I placed an order for pickup and my small pie was ready pretty quickly. I like how they have a full bar inside so you can get your drink on while eating their damn good pizza. Keep in mind each slice is the size of a Dominos/Papa Johns slice. Also a small pie is more like a personal pie with the pizza being so thin. I recommend getting a large pie. I didn't know it was my first time. Their small pie is good for 2 small kids to share, heavy emphasis on small kids. I highly recommend Lido's, Dave from One Bite Pizza gave them a 8.1 and they have a sign in front of their restaurant letting patrons know. With the switch of owners, I was worried this place was going to take a hit. When they first reopened after the reno, I was nervous. Our first meal was okay. It wasn't terrible by any means, but just not 'old Lidos.' So of course we tried it again and it was excellent. Glad they kept the decor but did a deep clean and repair to what needed fixing. The place definitely needed a cleaning. Smoke back from when restaurants were allowed to have smokers was absorbed in everything- walls, seats etc. And the seats were falling apart. Now everything is perfect and fixed. Also, Lido's now has the option to pay with credit card (it didn't before). The pizza was SO much better post reno than it ever was! That's probably due to their whole new pizza oven/system they put in. And the steak is back to being as good as we remember. I always get it with American cheese on top and a side of fried onions. The onions are seriously one of the best things on their menu. The one thing I hope and recommend is that they don't close down in the summer like old Lido's did each year because we love this place so much (and so does everyone else. There's always a crowd). Personally I enjoy a thicker crust on my pizza, but I can say they have a pretty solid thin/cracker-style crusted pizza that has great flavor as long as it isn't burnt. The sliced steak sandwich was ordered 3 times at our table, 2 of them were just okay and the 3rd was raw. All three steak sandwiches were requested to be medium rare, so that was disappointing. This is supposed to be one of their famous items on the menu. The environment here is pretty loud, kind of like a bar atmosphere except with crying children. So we saw this place on the one bite app. We ordered take out our first time and it was horrible and the pizza was very cold. We decided to give it another shot since the app rated it an 8.1. We ordered calamari and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, they were average. But the waitress didn't even give us plates and we didn't see her again so we just ate off the platter. Then we ordered 2 pies, 1 small pie and a margarita. Still a disappointment and I guess having it inside vs take out didn't really matter because it was still not hot. The sauce and cheese was ok tasting but the dough and crust tasted like nothing it was basically a baked tortilla.
