Very slow lines and long self checkout lanes... entire place could use a facelift seems dated and old.

The Commissary isn't the most convenient for me since I live off post, but I stopped in while my husband was at the gym. It does feel a bit small and outdated, but I was able to find everything I needed. I really appreciated the aisle with all the sale items--found a few great deals there! It was also fun spotting some specialty local products. I wouldn't go out of my way to shop here regularly, but it's definitely a money-saver when you're nearby. Had a super friendly cashier and bagger which helped round out my experience. read more

One of the older commissaries. Still, not bad. It is a bit on the smaller side so the selection isn't what it might otherwise be. The vegetables are fine, and it is a decent selection. Same with the fresh meat. There selection of food for the folks in the base hotels isn't bad, but it biases towards junk food, which does seem to be what the AIT students like. read more

I'm still trying to figure out why people shop here in the states. The only time I've found it better is overseas. This commissary does not impress me. They always make you feel bad if you don't want them to walk your groceries out. And yes you need to tip them if they do because they only get paid in tips. The commissary is super convenient for us because we live on post and it's the closest place to get groceries/supplies. With that being said, we need to stop coming here because of convenience. For our trip today, we only needed two things, Whole milk and baby soap. In total we paid just a few cents short of $9. Nine dollars for two things that could've costed us half that if we hadn't decided to be lazy lol. Aside from how expensive it is, half of the time we can't find the things we are looking for, and the things we do find are not in good condition, mainly the produce. Hopefully we've learned a lesson to pick value over convenience. And I hope that this helps some of you fellow yelpers out when thinking if it's worth it to go to the commissary. It's not! read more

I love the Fort Gordon Commissary. It is so cheap and great selection. The lines are always busy, but the baggers are very quick and efficient. The baggers make their living with tips, so make sure to bring cash. You can have the option to take the cart yourself to the car, or someone can assist you. They could use a better organic section, but I am not to complain this is where I buy all my detergent, toiletries and more. Military ID is needed. read more

The Commissary is the place for surprises. I say this because they do not advertise their sales. You have to go to the store to find the surprise deals. Overall the prices in the commissary are hard to beat their prices. Some of their items may be found for cheaper prices at other grocery stores. The difference in my opinion are the low meat prices and the wide selection of international foods. They also have a sushi bar and the deli prepares hot and cold sandwiches. The long lines at the commissary are deceiving. The lines always move quickly and the baggers will take your groceries to your car. The baggers do not work the commissary, they are paid through tips only, so this keeps the cost a little lower. read more

I and my wife have shopped at Fort Gordon commissary for over 33 years starting in 1976 when first assigned to Fort Gordon, even back to the days when it was located by the big water tower. Left Gordon in 82, back here in 93 as retired soldier. When they built the new one at its present location it was great. We shopped every Sunday after church. Had everything we needed. After a while it was not really that convenient as we changed church's and now there were many more super markets in the area. But we still did a major amount of shopping at the commissary. Was it crowded some days: Yes with long check out lines. They added self checkout lanes. Still crowded. Added Self bagging checkout lanes, same result. Ok it's crowded! But regardless of the long waits we never ever had a cashier or any other commissary employee who wasn't friendly and treated us respectfully. Prices: Better than many items at the local super markets. Best bet: Dairy, meats, bread, deli, ( why did they drop lot of the german Wurst!). Well the list is long. So what's the biggest issue today? Even after a reset it's outdated, too small and more soldiers and dependents are coming. There are very large areas that can be utilized for a new modern updated commissary. Will it ever come to be? Probably not in my lifetime. Another reviewer mentioned the parking lot needs to be resurfacing: I agree 100% as everyone who pushed a cart with eggs in it, you wonder if you'll wind up with scramble eggs! Can that be fixed: Yes! Wonderful that the requirement of wearing masks was put in place. Than the hours were changed where active duty had all day and retirees had to come after 1:00 pm or 1300 hrs if you prefer. That made no sense as someone else pointed out. I've been in the military long enough (27 1/2 years) to know that costs is a driving force in this operation. However Fort Gordon has gone from the Southeastern Signal Center to the US Army Signal Center and now as US Army Signal Corps and the Cyber Command. It's growing, time the commissary grows with it. Also, as home to the Signal Corps,your would think Fort Gordon's commissary (and the PX) would have good Cellular signal strength. they don't! So can the new Garrison Commander look into that and have the proper agency do whatever it takes to fix it so you can make cell phone calls without redialing or walking around to a different area trying to find a stronger signal strength level for your cell phone to work properly. Surly a cellular company would like to put up a new antenna or even adding one to the new building across the street from the PX or to the Signal Towers! It's a quality of life issue! In other words the Signal Corps needs to communicate! read more

I have to say that with the size of Fort Gordon this commissary is lacking. It is entirely too small with a base this size and the number of retirees. It does do a good job of trying to keep up with amenities but when compare to other similar commissaries on bases of equal size it is lacking. Parking is a bit tight even on days when it is not extremely crowded. There is no wifi as offered in other similar commissaries. Prices of meats will always be cheaper but that depends on what you are looking for. These days with so may options and rewards programs it is almost not worth it to go to the commissary. The biggest issue is that it is closed on Mondays. I cannot remember the last time I went to a commissary that was closed on a Monday except for overseas. I know there have been calls to close down these establishments but despite this review I still support commissaries, They provide a needed cost cutting benefit to many active duty and retirees. I just wish all were on par and at the same level. read more

First of all, why are seniors and retirees made to wait until 1400 to get into the store? Active duty personnel should be at work during the day and their dependents can go anytime. The signage inside is also a mess. I should be able to be on either end of an aisle and know what's in that aisle by reading both signs. I've been told that the reorganization of the store was directed by DACA. You have created a mess! And finally, Fort Gordon's population has grown over the last couple of years, but the store continues to be outdated. read more

This commissary is just like any other commissary I've been in, for the most part. Nothing special, although I find that this location is relatively more crowded and busy than others I have visited in the past, however. I also think that this location is not the most well stocked and clean commissary I have been in. Otherwise, normally I can get what I need and get outta there in a decent time if I am coming not around payday or on weekends. The staff is generally friendly as well. read more

Normal military commissary. Good efficient service at the sandwich deli. Prices are much better than the other stores outside the base. You must have some kind of U.S. DoD approved ID to make purchases though. Go to the front of the line in lanes 14 and 15, if you're in uniform and it's lunch time. the only real bargain at the commissary are the meats and canned goods. Everything else is hit or miss if you want a total shopping experience you might be better off going to a local grocery store like Kroger or Publix. Let me preface this by saying that this is the only commissary on an Army base that I've been to - all others have been Navy or Air Force bases. I don't know if that effects the commissary or not, since I know DECA is in charge of all of them. This is a solid store. Commissaries are always jacks of all trades but aces at none - they have a decent selection of everything that you would get on a normal basis. Produce: Depending on what day you go, this can be really hit or miss. They restock on Thursdays, so Thursday-Saturday are the best days to go. They have everything from onions and potatoes to Chinese eggplant and papaya. There's a very small organic selection that includes fresh herbs. Breads: They run out of bread all of the time. It's only random occasions I see it actually stocked well. Dairy: Solid selection of cheeses, yogurts, milk and eggs. Meat: They have pork, chicken, turkey and beef. I've seen lamb around the holidays. There is a small fish selection but I've never trusted it. The prices are cheaper than anywhere out in town, though do keep in mind you are supposed to tip your bagger. No, it's not the nicest grocery store, and no, it doesn't carry specialty items. Still, it is what it is, and I do buy alot of basic goods from here. read more

i find it very depressing going to this commissary there is always shelfs that are empty and the sale of spirts seems to have taken over the shelfs. while the prices maybe cheaper i would just as soon go some where else were i can get what i want and need. this store needs a new manager to bring it back to the way it was. read more

Totally disorganized. We go once a month and every month products are moved. Last month it was on aisle 3 and the next month it might be on 5 or 6. Don't need to spend 4 hours going up and down aisles looking for things. Several months ago I asked the "manager" about a generic product list by aisle and he looked at me like I was crazy. This commissary has the worst customer service. The cashiers tends to come up with their own rules and the management doesn't seem to care how customers are treated. Every time I go shopping it seems like they have a new rule. Management needs to get out of their office and stop the cashiers bossing around the customers. read more

We are 24 year retired Army and been going to this Commissary for 13 years. This is the worse Commissary ever we have experienced in all the duty stations we have been. Smallest, not enough products they offer, matter of fact, they keep taking some good products of the shelf and sell some other brands now they are quality wise not better. I tried out the new 13 gallons trash bags and they where no good. I used to get certain Sundown Vitamins, they are off the shelf, and some more expensive brand took their spot. Prices only partly lower with some product compared with Walmart and co. But when I see the 1 pound 8 oz regular Corn Flakes $5 at the Commissary and at Walmart for $3.64 then something is wrong. Maybe it was priced wrong on the shelf, but I seen it over the years that a lot of times that cereal is most of the time more expensive at the Commissary unless the have their special sale once or twice a month that can be very secret. Also what disappoints me; meat used to be always more affordable then Walmart & co. but noticed not all the time either anymore. I end up more and more going to Walmart, and I hate it. Because I do love my Military Community, I love the people who work there, they are always friendly and happy to talk and help you. The Commissary used to be a place to help soldiers to save some money. Not to take it out off their pocket. Also one huge problem: The Women Bathroom is a mess; it was renovated a few years back and I hardly saw any change and its terrible. Fungus is growing where the tile is by the mirrors. Mirrors are having black oxidation, black stuff all on the bottom part, the counter top is a mess. Water damage on the ceiling. Its a shame, where the Government pay billions into weapons programs, and Fort Gordon investing into the new Guest House and Cyber Command but whats going on with the Commissary???? read more

I was checking out with my family and I had the cashier named Courtney checking us out. She was very rude from the moment we first interacted like she did not want to be at work. She did not care about my groceries that were fragile she continued to ring them up and just throw them down the belt aisle. I do not know what her problem was but this was my first time attending and I didn't enjoy it. I'm not considering returning. read more

As far as groceries, they have most of what we usually need, but sometimes we need to go to another store to finish grocery shopping which is inconvenient. It's not like we have weird, strict gluten free diets to stick to, just normal stuff they don't have. Make sure you check the expiration dates because I have bought expired things here before. It's usually pretty busy and everyone there seems to be super slow and they stare at the items on the shelf like their brains are running complicated algorithms trying to decide which item to buy. Maybe it's because they're all senior citizens, I'm pretty sure every AARP member in Georgia gets their groceries from here. The baggers work for tips only but make over $300 a day on those tips (I have a friend who's wife bags groceries, that's how I know). So America's tipping culture will make you feel obligated to give a larger tip than necessary. I try to use the self checkout when I can, but the machines always yell at me for no reason. "Please place your item in the bagging area!" IT IS IN THE BAG, let me continue scanning. Then a light flashes and they tell me to wait. Psh. The parking lot, oh boy, the parking lot. It might be the worst paved parking lot on earth. It's so bumpy I'm always worried my groceries are going to go jumping out of the cart. By the time I get to my car, my hands are numb from all the rumbling. Needless to say we don't come here often. read more

Needs a remake. Old, eyesore, produce and meat ok. The parking lot of this location can grate on your nerves just trying to drive up to it. The concrete is very old and bumpy, with seemingly years worth of poor patch ups. The store itself is old with tile that needs replacing. Its mix matched and brittle in places and lumpy. Produce is a hit or miss situation. Sometimes it looks decent but often it looks unsafe to eat. The meat is cheap but sometimes looks unappealing b/c blood is on the outside of the packages. The meat is placed in rusty, dirty display area. The whole place needs upgrades. And this section needs employees who can manage well and care to work in it. Bread is at a better cost than your usual grocery store and a few other items. read more

The people in the commissary DELI are very stingy with the ends and pieces of deli cold cuts. On my last visit I asked if they had any. At first they said no. Then after I mentioned mrs toomers name, they remembered they had some. The little oriental lady was the main culprit. After mentioning mrs to omer name they announced mark downs on deli sandwhiches. And why do they roll them in paper wrap instead of one tray like they use to. One would think they are lying to the customers so they can have what's left for themselves. Usually find everything needed/wanted except find as in other places certain items supposedly on sale are missing from the shelves. Suspect this is due to 'insiders' purchasing these items or telling their friends about sale items in advance. This has been investigated as other commissaries, found to be true, and people have been fired. There are times when vendors do not stock or are not advised to stock certain items. All in all I like the variety of items available and find the pricing good on most items. I too have had the opportunity to use commissaries at bases of all branches of service and have found improvements in most. read more

I really enjoy shopping here. The prices are great. They do have a supply and demand issue going on with certain items, but this place is growing fast. They are more than happy to accommodate you by letting you special order your items and they hold them for you. Everyone is nice. I always enjoy my shopping trip there, unlike the other options of shopping off base. The entire area has issues with supply and demand because of rapid growth. I really think everyone needs to know about their low prices, healthy selections (gluten free, organic, GMO free), and willingness to help you in anyway possible with a smile always. read more

I never met a commissary I did not love until now, and this one is so bad I wrote my congressmen and senators and told them to please close it so taxpayers stop supporting such a terrible waste of funds. Don't bother trying to go after work to pick up a few things, the self-check out, express check out and regular lanes are 20+ people deep likewise trying to pick a few things up. The shelves are never restocked-we have visited every time of day and every day of the week and they are always out of at least 4 things on our list that we stock up on. And if you are a vegetarian, forget about it, they have eliminated almost every Gardein brand item, tofu dogs, Gimmie Lean products and if you like Asian food-forget about it, they are always out of tofu. We have put in a comment card about all this every time and finally put in a comment to the online site. All they had to say was to ask for help stocking. Really? So when we are across the store in the frozen foods we are to walk back across the store to look in an empty office for help to see if maybe something is in the back? Well, we now get 75% of what we need at Aldi which has better produce anyway. JINLONG ORIENTAL MARKET beats the commissary on price on everything and unlike the commissary always has food in stock-their prices beat the commissary on produce, tofu and sauces, and no endless lines. As long as the commissary carries dairy free cheese we will visit once a month, but I'll write my representatives again advocating that my tax dollars go to the deficit and not to the commissary. read more
