I think that a 3-1/2 would be more accurate, but not quite a 4. I don't want this to come across as a "bad" review, and we would likely go back, it just wasn't great overall. So, starting with the good. The drink selection is really good, especially the bourbon. The smoked Old Fashioned was pretty cool and it was just right I thought. I had the Halibut special and the fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. The grits also paired very well with the fish and sauce. The homemade key lime pie for dessert was also very good. As for the "meh", I would say the service could have been better. It was a little bit on the inattentive side. I wouldn't be as picky if this place wasn't as expensive. It's not super expensive, but the halibut special was $40. We "only" spent around $250. The rest of the dinner was not good. The gumbo tasted like taco soup. It was a very odd combination with the crab and that cumin/chili flavor. I didn't finish the cup. The mussels were completely bland except for the few that tasted musty and un fresh. I did send those back and they didn't charge for that appetizer. The half wedge salad was $9 and about the size of half of my fist. It's iceberg lettuce, come on. The brussel sprouts that were served with my fish had a nice sear and were cooked right, they just didn't have any flavor. Lastly, it would have been nice to finish the meal having a cup of coffee with the key lime pie but they dont serve coffee. We ate here for lunch and dinner this week. Both meals were over salted and very greasy. One of things that I used appreciate about Forklift was that the plates seemed very fresh and not dripping in oil... something you can get anywhere in Tupelo. Sadly they have conformed it seems. Perhaps a few new clean menu selections added to bring some freshness in. Also, their musical choices were great but the volume that they had going was super disruptive to the meal, even after I asked for it to be turned down a click... Not sure if they have new management or simply no management at all but Forklift has taken a turn in the wrong direction. Sad. read more

We LOVED this place. First, the place is really cool looking. Great feel to the restaurant overall. Not stuffy but snazzy. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Service was outstanding. And the food was better. I started with a half wedge salad that was really good. I then had the patty melt for dinner. It is a very large sandwich, which could certainly be shared between two people. And I had a side of yams instead of the fries. I've eaten a LOT of patty melts -- love them. This one was one of the best. Just really good flavoring, cooked perfect, and was brought out hot. For starters, Forklift has a very good reputation around Tupelo, so I was excited to finally try it. But sadly, the experience didn't live up to the hype. The Cajun Nachos were a good appetizer, and are the only reason this review warranted two stars. The plating was inviting, the flavors were excellent, and I started thinking it could only get better from there. Sadly, the nachos were the highlight. I ordered the Ribeye -- not my favorite cut of steak, but not ever bad. It came with Pesto Potatoes. The potatoes didn't have any real flavor and needed salt badly. The pesto lightened them up, but also lacked any real flavor profile. I ordered the steak medium rare and, at best, it hit the table blue rare. There wasn't even a sear on the meat, showing the lack of cook time. My fiancée ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese. Better than the steak, but still underwhelming. The lobster was dry and lacked flavor, but at least the Gruyère was good. The green peas seemed pretty pointless -- lacked flavor and only added a squishiness to the bowl. Overall, just disappointed and it was a let-down. I loved our server though, great guy. read more
