Romie's Grocery is a very good sit down restaurant with great food. I got the Romie's Burger and it is a burger that is just meat and cheese but you put on the toppings. The service was great and they were about to close but they let my grandmother get something to go. read more

We arrived 30 before they opened. Saw the staff out back so went to chat. Met the chef Nemo. Makaila was our server very pleasant. We had a wonderful meal. Started with fried mushrooms yum. We shared a tossed side salad was crisp & fresh. They have mini loaves of French bread served with butter & strawberry butter so delicious. My entree was grilled pork chop, crispy Brussel sprouts with sweet chili sauce glaze & fried green tomatoes as my sides. Loved the flavor & seasoning of my chop. Bill had the Rib Rye Nemo recommended with cheesy mashed potatoes & fried green tomatoes. He asked for A-1 steak sauce. I told him to try a bite 1st. He did not use the A-1 on his steak. Bill said it was the best Rib Eye he's ever had seasoned & cook to perfection. We will be back when in Tupelo. Thank you for a delicious meal & left overs for another meal. read more

I have to preface this review by saying I hadn't eaten in a day and a half for a medical procedure before I rolled up in Romie's......... It was excellent. Best country fried steak I've ever had. Fried okra and fried green tomatoes to make any southerner smile. Quality mashed potatoes and white gravy. Sweet tea that was diabetes sweet. Wife said her bake squash was excellent. The only thing that was meh to me was the corn bread cake. I'll be going back! Hopefully it wasn't just my hungry stomach doing all the talking. read more

I love coming to Romie's! Whether it's hanging at the bar for a beer with friends, hanging out on their patio listening to live music and entertainment, or dining with fry at supper time, love the people and menu. Great Southern starters from catfish bites or Romie's crawfish dip. Entrees range from ribeye, pork chops, catfish or chicken Romie which is a creamy crawfish, mushroom sauce (w/sherry or wine?) deliciousness. They also have delicious sides from sweet potato fries, sautéed greens, garlic mash potatoes, fried green tomatoes (delicious), cheesy grits (yum), corn salad, grilled veggies and more. They also have great entree salads from a Sante Fe chicken salad, chicken Greek or Caesar salads or spinach salads. Service is awesome, bar tending ladies are great/friendly and fun! read more

Usually a good place. Music was good, it was open mic night. Mozzarella bites were cold in the middle. The service was mediocre at best. We weren't the only table and not the only section unhappy. Romie's Grocery was pretty quiet on a weeknight, and we scored a rockstar parking space right in front. We decided to sit inside; there were a few parties on the patio where live music could be heard. Service was attentive and friendly. Everyone seemed laid-back and easygoing. I ordered the pimento cheese bacon burger ($13). The side choices mentioned on the menu for sandwiches were home fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings, but you were allowed to pick from the sides section too, for no additional charge. In that case, I decided to go with the cheese grits. There were a whopping eight other items to choose from! The pimento cheese was my favorite aspect of the burger. It was oozy in the right way and had a reasonable amount of pimentos. The patty was okay; the kitchen isn't able to cook it to your preferred temperature, and well done is what you're gonna get. The thick bacon slices were fine but got kinda lost under all the cheese. The bun was unnecessarily buttered. The cheese grits side was a generous portion but got lumpier and stiff as time went on. The overall meal was a bit too heavy for my preference, and I felt it for a while. If in the area again, I'd be willing to return to Romie's Grocery and try something else. I definitely liked the relaxed atmosphere and nice employees. read more

Went there last night, ordered a beer at the bar and closed the tab. Then sat outside and never got served. I walked back in the bar to order all my drinks last night. The bar tender was nice, but a man sitting next to me annonced that I wasn't getting served outside. (I didn't say anything, I don't know why he did) but an employee there named Lisa got mad and claimed I was not being served because I opened a tab at the bar.. I told her that was not true, I paid for one beer and waited outside to get served. Lisa became very argumentative with me and claimed she watched me all night, and that's why she wouldn't serve me.. that was worst service I ever expirenced in tupelo. I'm never coming back here after that.. thanks Lisa.. after leaving a review on Facebook, I was blocked.. very professional of them! read more

Stayed in Tupelo and decided to give this awesome place a try. We started with the fried mushrooms for an appetizer. The batter is light and crispy. Just the right amount of seasoning. I ordered the catfish dinner. I chose garlic mashed potatoes and sweet chili roasted Brussels sprouts OMG!!! So very delicious. My husband had the peel + eat shrimp dinner. It came with 1 lb. Shrimp, potatoes and corn. Seasoning and as spot on, potatoes and corn cooked to perfection. Great casual meal. The service was attentive without overbearing. We also enjoyed the atmosphere. This is a very impressive restaurant. It looks like there are at least two big rooms to sit at. One is the dining room you walk in. The other big room is outside but has roof over it and walls. I did not sit in this room but looks like cool place to sit at if the weather is nice. Anyway, this restaurant used to be a grocery store stated my waitress. I guess they just kept the name. Menu items ordered: fried catfish, fried green tomatoes, cornbread and some delicious corn salad. The corn salad was one of my sides. It tasted absolutely delicious. As I sit here thinking about it, my mouth waters. Anyway, the food tasted great. Next time I come, I hope they have it that day. The catfish was good and the fried green tomatoes hit the right spot. I will probably come back since they took care of me. I got checked on numerous times and she even asked if I wanted desert. I hardly ever get desert as much as I eat out. read more

The service today was less than desirable. 2 people at our table didn't get their food until after everyone else did because the waitress forgot to put the order in. There were multiple times that we asked for condiments and refills but never received them. The waitress did not know how to divide checks so we had to go to the actual register to do it for her. The people at our table who did not receive their food were double charged and once they did get their food, the order was wrong. When we asked for a sweet tea refill, the waitress brought us unsweetened and said it was "better than nothing." Even after the service, she still gave herself a large gratuity on each check. It's a great place to take your family on a Sunday afternoon after church. The food is always great and the service is outstanding.

First off I really hate to give Romie's a 3 star.. maybe it's because I had such high expectations going in. The experience I had was definitely 5 star worthy, but I was more excited for the food and that's where I was let down. I ordered the romie's chicken whatever and it was just tough and not very tender, kind of chewy if you will. My fiance ordered the filet -medium rare, and it definitely came out more along the lines of well done, also, with not a lot of flavor. As far as the entrees, 3 star, ain't even sorry about it. Now onto the 5 star part of the review. The Tito's and Sprite, mmmmmhmmm those were delish! Our little waitress had em served up one after another! She was great! It was freezing cold, but they have heaters and a fire going (we sat outside due to the size of our party, and yes.. we were partying!) I doubt I'll be back, due to I'm not from Tupelo and there are plenty of other options, but I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking to try something they haven't had before. Accidentally stumbled upon this place and I'm mighty glad I did! I was in route to another lunch spot when I passed Romie's and did a double take. I decided to give it a shot. Most impressive lunch experience I've had in a long time. I got the meat and two: extra grilled chicken, deviled eggs, and green beans. Comes with rolls or corn break. I got the corn bread. It was all outstanding. The service was excellent; my meal was out to me in around 5 minutes. To top it off, they were offering free watermelon, tomatoes, and banana pudding. I went with the banana pudding and it was awesome. I'm looking for an excuse to get back to Tupelo just to go back! If you can only go eat at one place in Tupelo, go here! read more

I chose to go to Forklift, but I walked in and there was only two people in the quiet, dark dining room and nobody around to greet me (thankfully). I checked out the menu and headed for the door. To Romie's I thought and left. First and foremost, the friendliest service I think I've ever experienced. Elizabeth was constantly checking on me, brought some delicious, I mean DELICIOUS, watermelon and 'maters (tomatoes) for the table, offered just anything I might've needed all throughout my visit. What a pleasant and friendly person. Now, the food. Wow! I opted for their bacon, egg and cheese burger with hand-breaded onion rings. And I cannot glow enough about this yummy plate to do it justice. Frankly you need to see my photo to believe me; the tastiness will shine through. Wish I had room for dessert but i didn't. However, I did eat every bite of those fresh southern maters; including the slices on my plate. read more

I had one last meal opportunity during my stay in Tupelo so I did some exploring on Yelp to find a good local place. Man did I nail it by choosing Romie's! This place is fantastic!  The service was extremely friendly. I want to give specific mention to Daniel who was very helpful and friendly. The food was great and the price was a very good value.  I chose the friend chicken tenders with sides of boiled cabbage, green beans, and mustard greens. They were all very good but I would say the standout was the mustard greens. The tenders were obviously made fresh in house with a very flavorful fried batter. Daniel was awesome enough to provide hot sauce which was a perfect pairing for my tenders. Dining partners had the pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries. The pork was some of the best I've ever had. It was very tender and moist but not greasy. It had a very good smoke flavor to it and it had plenty of crispy bark bits.  The plate was loaded with sweet potato fries. Give this place a try if you have a chance.  It's the perfect place if you are looking for some local home cooking food with friendly service. read more

My mother ordered a lemon crunch desert and there was a live bug on it, crawling away. When she informed the employee, she acted as though she could care less. We found them on Yelp. Went to the door, it was locked. As we were turning around we heard the door unlock. They let us in , said they could serve us salads or sandwiches. They really aren't opening until Monday after having been closed five months for Covid. Once seated on the awesome patio they told us that they realized they had everything set up & that we could order whatever we wanted. We shared the Romie's Crawfish dip with wonderfully fresh bread. We also shared an excellent burger with sides of fried green tomatoes ( perfectly done) & sweet chili Brussel''s sprouts. Oh my GOODNESS!!!! Fabulous. Excellent service. First let me yelp about the family eating on the patio. Your kids really aren't all that cute and your misbehaved spawn ruined what had potential to be a really great dinner. You made me mad. You were oblivious to the harm they could have gotten into or the noise and aggravation that your children provided. Keep em at home if you don't want to watch them and out of my sight too. You owe the whole restaurant an apology. Anyway.......I can't blame Romie's. Their food was really good. The portions were huge. The Oyster Po Boy and the sides were incredible. They have a great selection of sides and the ones I chose, onion rings and green beans wrapped in bacon were really fresh and tasted home made. Ok. I feel better now, and full. I'll go back to Romie's read more

Well, perhaps it's not a "fair fight". After all, I have traveled extensively. Particularly through the South. And, I have been to what most would agree is the best Southern dining institution in the world, Arnold's Country Kitchen in Nashville, TN. But, if I'm being honest, Romie's was not that great. Don't get me wrong. I wanted it to be amazing. I really did. After all, everyone probably enjoys being "in the know" about the "hidden gems" scattered along the highways and byways of America. Hence, YELP. Right? And Romie's looked promising from the road. Great reviews, too. Should have been a winner. But....it seems to take more than an old fashioned Southern style name and sign to live up to the image Romie's projected outside. First: The Atmosphere. The name made me think I had found an old country store that had , over the years, started serving Plate Lunches, and had slowly built a reputation with the locals, gradually morphing into a cafe. I've been to a few of these in the South, and I love 'em when they're done right. (For example: Puckett's Grocery in Leiper's Fork, TN and The Old Country Store in Lorman, MS) BUT Romie's, regardless of whatever history the building may have, feels more like the multi purpose room at an Elks Lodge than a Southern institution. Outdated wood paneling on the walls, dusty plastic flowers on the table, low ceilings all combine to make you feel like you're at a non profit fundraiser, not a charming backroads cafe. The food was not bad. By that, I mean that it was okay...average. I ordered the Chicken Spaghetti. Well....Mehh.......I guess. Nothing to rave about. Nothing to return for. Certainly not the "specialty" dish that the waitress sold me on. The "iced" fruit tea would have probably been better cold, rather than lukewarm. I left disappointed, wishing I had just gone to Lost Pizza again. Now THAT'S a great local find ! I do wonder what dinner is like at Romie's . I went for lunch. Maybe a steak at night would leave me with a better impression. But when I saw the prices and thought about how disappointing lunch was, I felt like it wasn't worth the risk. I'll probably just go to Lost Pizza. read more

I've eaten there several times, including today. Food is good, and you get a lot for the money. Good southern cooking, with an occassional twist. Great service. Today I had the chicken spaghetti, sweet potato fries (fresh cut of course), green beans, slaw, and the cornbread (which really looked like a huge hoe cake). All was good, especially the fries. I was expecting a tomato-based sauce on the spaghetti, but it was more like a rich cream of chicken noodle soup with peas - and, the peas added an unexpectedly enjoyable layer of flavor to it. The slaw had a hit of sweetness and a touch of vinegar and was great. read more
