Well unfortunately I have waited too long in writing my review. However I couldn't let it go without one. We were headed back from AR from a graduation and while staying in Tupelo found this restaurant close to our hotel. Not from being around the area weren't real sure about it but only because we were not seeing a lot of food items we liked. However because it was close by our hotel and the star rating was high, we decided to try it out. Oh my gosh; I am so glad we did. Even months ago enjoying our food to now, I can still remember how amazingly tasty our food was. My hubby and I shared the Dirty Grains with greens and things. We both have never had greens in our lives, but our server told us they were very scrumptious at the Blue Canoe. She was spot on!! They were delicious, really the entire meal was DELISH!! I am so glad we shared the dish because it was a lot and very filling. Now the restaurants famous sauce that is made fresh every day is worth its weight in gold. Our server has been there a very long time and she said she is the gal who makes it daily. I can't really explain the taste but it is very, very tasty. We were so full and it as going to pass on dessert. Of course our server told us about their dessert that is #1 on the menu...Connie's Blueberry Doughnut Bread Pudding (pictured). Once again super scrumptious and worth every calorie. If you are new to the area I highly recommend a trip to the Blue Canoe. It doesn't look like much outside and inside it can seem like a dive. It isn't because it's been around d a while and the ambiance is really cool!! The parking lot gets quite full and was just a bit challenging to maneuver our large 250 GMC truck but we managed. The food that we had was good, but they were out of a few things that everybody wanted to try and the reason that we went there for only given it three stars because the bartender was a little rude and because one of the people that came with us ask for refills the waitress literally said well I need to know if there's anything else you want cause I got a table of 11 that I need to take care of and I don't know when I'll be back. This place seemed like a real local gem and I knew I wanted to come here in some capacity during our time in Tupelo. We took the plunge for dinner, our main meal of the day, so expectations were high. We walked in and a decent number of people in ear was basically a packed place turned to look at us. Normally I would shit myself but in this case, it was friendly looks. I could make out some smiles. Even though we are definitely not from around here, I felt welcomed. The bar was one of the few places that had some available real estate so we sat in between two other parties. We were greeted immediately by the bartender and I had to make a game time decision which was assisted by the wall of drafts only a few feet from my face on the wall behind the bar. GF and I chose two beers we had never heard of and were in business. We looked through the menu. Food is creative, taps are local craft brews, the service is not only stellar but completely knowledgeable. The ambience is a local bar/gastropub. And it was packed. The fried black eyed peas with chow chow is a one of a kind treat here. The burgers come with everything including the kitchen sink. They are a must if you're coming here. Without it, I'd be halfway to Memphis or NOLA chasing something with half as much soul. BC's got grit AND flavor. it also has creative, simple, honest, stick-to-your-ribs food. Staff pushes out drinks and plates with a swagger that makes you feel like a regular, even if it's your first night. the beer's cold, and the music is diverse and usually doesn't suck. So, I walked in and sat the bar. The bartender had a bit of sass and that was awesome. She was super sweet and helpful helping me choose my dinner. She made all of the recommendations and was absolutely spot on!!!! The restaurant is an interesting place with a very creative menu that is all over the place. I was very impressed and surprised that the food was so good and it all was so very different. Appetizer: fried black eyed peas----absolutely delicious Entrée ---Thai noodle chicken bowls. This place is as exactly as promised. They sat our large group immediately at 6pm on a Saturday night. Our waitress was prompt, nice, and took care of us. She even rang in a beer refill for me to make sure it got in before happy hour ended. I got the crawfish and beef burger and it was juicy and very flavorful. For starters my wife and I drove over 400 miles to just eat here. BC is such a relaxing atmosphere you can't help but fall in love with the place. We have had several things on the menu before, for this trip we stared with the black eyed peas then I went with the BC burger and my wife went with the shrimp tacos. Everting is always over the top. As far as service goes it's like they are always one step ahead of you. We went 2 days later for lunch and our waitress from our previous dinner recognized us and came over and talked to us. What a hidden gem ! This non assuming plain looking building in the legendary Tupelo Ms. has everything, you walk in and you're instantly greeted with hellos from the server Tammy and bartender. They made us feel so special and the menu ! Out of this world fried black eyed peas , I got the salmon blt and my friend got the south's renowned blue canoe burger , full bar great atmosphere. Solid beer wall, no mistake there. Lots of local and regional choices for taps. The food was pretty hit and miss for us, mostly mess. I ordered the bologna sandwich which was a thick cut of mead with fried egg and cheese, toasted bread. I thought it was okay but I could only eat about a half of it, so if you really hungry this might be one for you. I've never been disappointed here! Blue Canoe may look like a bit of a whole in the wall place... because it is. It's small and crowded inside, and you may have trouble hearing your dining companions. I'm here to tell you that it's all worth it! Their food is absolutely delicious! I can highly recommend their crack dip fries, wings, burgers, and their shrimp tacos personally but I'm not sure you can go wrong with anything off of their menu. Cool, bluesy Memphis feel. We went in a Konday, which is a) Monday Night Football (I.e., no live music) and b) Wing night (yay!) We started with the avocado fries as an appetizer. I enjoyed the bite when you combined it with a crawfish tail. D doesn't like crawfish, and found it bland without the added kick of the crawfish The dry rub wings were excellent. Best I've had in a long time. Spicy and crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, not overcooked. I had the Smashburger, and it was outstanding! The smoked flavor really comes through. The start of the party was the Blueberry donut bread pudding. Oh. My. Gosh!! One of the best desserts I've ever tasted -- right up there with the Double Chocolate Bread pudding from my favorite restaurant in New Orleans, which is my favorite dessert ever. If you like blueberries and bread pudding, save room for dessert. It's worth the calories!!! Super cool "joint" with old wood interior and lots of interesting things decorating the place. They have over 40 beers on tap with an excellent variety of craft styles. We enjoyed a sour that was quite tart. I had the surf and turf burger with crawfish meat in the burger. I thought it was excellent. The fries were fresh cut. My wife had the duck quesadilla with a huge amount of duck meat, it was easily a winner for both of us. Service was great. It's definitely a cool place to try at least once. Do yourself a favor and stop here! The atmosphere was great and the outdoor seating was a nice I had to come back and edit my review. We returned to Blue Canoe to order the Blueberry bread pudding to be told that they were not doing to go orders. I believe that is one of the most ridiculous things to not sell bread pudding or any other food item to go. I would not be so upset if they had answered the phone before we drove to place our order in person. Otherwise, they would have received a 5 star rating. How can you not offer to go orders but not answer the phone to inform the consumers prior to coming to your establishment? It is extremely unprofessional and inconsiderate of your customers time and money. read more
