Had a late lunch today with the wife after a day trip from Alabama. We visited the Flea market and wanted to revisit the Blue Canoe after such a great time during our last visit. Have to say this visit was not the same nor was the food. Had the Smash Burger and it was not as good as I remember it. Seemed to be very a commercialized patty you could get anywhere. taste was not that great and not what was advertised! The only saving Grace were the fries; they were great with a little Ranch. When we got our bill I was shocked to see a 95 cent fee for No Cash Fee added to the bill, waitress said it was added to all bills. She said the manager had added it too everyone's bill because he was charged and he was passing it along too the patron. First, this is illegal as you cannot charge the customer a credit card fee; this is a federal law to my understanding! Secondly, this was added before they knew whether or not I was paying cash or credit. So, anyone visiting this place better check their receipt and make sure if they pay cash, this fee is removed! "No Cash Fee"! Needless to say, we were not impressed at all with this visit and will be looking for another local place to visit when we return next month. Added Note: we used to love this place and talk about it too everyone and especially love the atmosphere, but something has definitely changed since we were here last! read more

I asked for Ranch & she rolled her eyes. RIDICULOUS!!!! On a different note, the food was AMAZING! My husband & I both had the Smashly Joe & it was DELICIOUS!!!! I have to update my review to 5 stars, should have done this years ago. Been coming here for over 6+ years, Southern fare menu with burgers and sandwiches with an upscale delicious twist. Their appetizers are great, Spicy fried black eye peas or avocado slices with crawfish and Gouda but save your appetite for dinner and dessert. My favorites are the Dirty Greens which is a combo of brown rice, lentils, quinoa and sweet potatoes mixed with delicious spicy green, I always tend to order this. My other favorite is the Nashville hot soft shell crab, so fresh and delicious! Colleagues have ordered burgers, Smashburger ala Neon Pig, Sloppy Joe's, shrimp tacos all delicious. I have had the duck quesadillas and the grilled salmon blt in the past, worth mentioning. Service is always on point, friendly and superb, the owner is always on the floor checking on his diners or in the bar helping out. Ambiance is great, relaxing or high energy when they have bands playing. 30+ variety of beers here, even have my San Diego Stone IPA. Love Blue Canoe! My one and only meal in Tupelo. My husband chose this place, since I was forcing him to go to Elvis' Birthplace. He chose it because of the beer selection. Just look at the abundance of taps and you'll see why. The atmosphere was a bit too dark for me. It definitely has an old hole in the wall feel to me, not what I was expecting. We sat at the bar with the talkative locals. The air conditioning vent overhead was dripping condensation. We were told "welcome to Mississippi". I intended to start with the cheesesteak fries. The portion was so big, it ended up being the only thing that I ordered. Topped with a hefty portion of shaved steak, mixed with peppers and onions, with the cheese sauce beneath. I usually like my fries crispy, and although these weren't, I enjoyed them. My husband had the Smash Burger. They said it was an award winner and he agreed. He also ordered a side of the intriguing "crack", which was a nacho cheese concoction mixed with sausage. I'm not a sausage fan, so I didn't try it. He said that the sausage was subtle though. I found Blue Canoe via a Yelp search because I was staying nearby. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Friday night and there was a short wait and we ordered drinks at the bar, which there were 30 brews on tap. The bartender was friendly and fast. Once we were seated, Tammy was our server. She let us know that a few items were unavailable that night, which was fine. My husband ordered the BC Burger and seemingly was able to order an unlimited amount of toppings. Tammy unsold him to get the "crack dip", which he had on the side so I could dip my fries as well. I ordered the duck quesadillas and fries because I was "trying" to be healthy, although there were other veggie plates I could've tried. My husband loved his burger, but thought the dip was ok. I loved the dip, but wasn't fond of the quesadillas. Otherwise, he liked his Yuengling & Blue Moon and I liked my Sweetwater Blue and Abita PB & Jam beers. We went to the Blue Canoe on 3/17 and had a great experience. The main restaurant was full so they escorted us to the rear part of the building which is part restaurant/bar/hang-out area. This section is very rustic and reminded me of some of my old college hang-outs. The menu had about 10 things that I wanted to try, but I had just judged a BQQ contest and really didn't want anything big. I chose the Crack Dip Fries appetizer. I thought an appetizer would be small and maybe I could get their famous dessert (more on that later). My wife ordered the BC Burger. The food arrived quickly and the Crack Dip Fries were huge. French fries covered in sausage cheese dip...OMG, so good. My wife's burger was large and she said the burger tasted great. So finished our meal and I was anxious to get their Mississippi Magazine award winning bread pudding. They take blueberry donuts from the Famous Connie's Fired Chicken and make their special bread pudding. Now think of that for a moment...blueberry donut bread pudding. OMG. Well, the waitress informed me that they had just sold the last one. Bummer. Disappointment. This was a life may not go on kind of moment. Although they ran out of the dessert our meal was great. I loved the building and back area. A live band was setting up to play. This is the kind of place you can go hang out for hours. I will definitely be back. read more

I am from out of town and stopped by based on reviews plus the parking lot is always full. The atmosphere has the dive bar feel but very welcoming. I was alone and sat at the bar, had great conversations with the people around me. The beer selection is awesome! I had the fried bologna sandwich, it was delicious. The sandwich consisted of bacon jam, bologna and topped off with a fried egg. I grew up on bologna sandwiches and one thing that is a must is you must burn the edges a bit on the bologna... they did it perfectly. They have live music every night at 730, so it's great to not have to wait late hours to hear music. I will be back, this will be my go to when I am in town. read more

We were in town for work and wanted to find thing that was unique to where we were and found this gem of a place! Tammy was amazing! We asked what her recommendations were and there wasn't an item on that menu she couldn't have sold! Everything sounded mouthwatering. We ended up with the duck quesadilla as an appetizer we split. It was good but my partner didn't care for the duck he found out. Otherwise the remainder of our meal was perfect! Huge portions that were freshly made and hot! Presentation was picture perfect but definitely not the over the top ridiculous. Perfect! Oh! And the prices? Not like fast food cheap at all - way to tasty for that - but not exuberant. Portion sizes and food quality make the prices very fair! If I am ever back that way I know we will be coming again and we have suggested this place to anyone that mentions Mississippi now. Blended review from 2 visits over 18 months. First time I came here was in 2017 and it was fantastic. We got there a little late (band had just stopped playing) and the place wasn't very crowded. The bartender was friendly and the food was really good. I was excited to come back this trip. But, the experience was a little less enjoyable. Fair balance--it was October 2nd and they had a Tom Petty tribute band there to commemorate the anniversary of Tom Petty's death (RIP). So, the place was packed. 3 rows deep at the bar packed. I wanted to eat dinner so I went out to the back patio and got a seat. Note to self...there's a reason that Mississippi shows up on the squamous cell carcinoma of the lung heat map in the US. There were so many people smoking out there I thought it was 1958. So that kind of sucked. The server working the back patio was apparently, also working the inside so service was exceptionally slow. To the point of being annoying. They just weren't staffed appropriately for the crowd they had. The smash burger you've seen in other reviews is as good as everyone says. Fries were good--but not exceptional like the burger. They also have a great selection of beer (tap and bottles/cans) which is nice. I finished the food and went back inside to enjoy the live music. That part they do really well. Cool, small venue vibe with a good sound system. Everyone was having a lot of fun--it's always nice to be a part of that type of crowd. I ordered a couple of beers from the bar during that time--both bartenders were very busy and didn't seem to be in very good moods. Why do you do that job if you get cranky when it gets busy? Sadly, instead of the first time when the bartender helped make our experience fun, this time they dragged it down some. Mostly because it felt like nobody there really cared if you thought you were getting bad service. Seems a little like the "only girl in town" syndrome. Overall, there's enough good that I'd go back again next time I'm in town--if I ever get back to Tupelo. But, you should go with the right expectations to not end up disappointed. read more

The wedges were delicious and the crack fries were good but pretty salty. We split the smash burger, which they get from Neon Pig. It was amazing as to be expected. The food was solid here, the Smash Burger was AMAZING (but I need to try it straight from Neon Pig next time), and the beer selection was great. Fries weren't that great on their own, but the Crack Dip made up for it. I see some comments about the amazing service here, but it didn't seem that great to me. I walked in, wasn't greeted, and had to go up to the bartender to ask about seating and ordering. Waitress gave me some recommendations for food/beer, took my orders, and that was pretty much it for service. Your slender black female server was literally drinking her bottle of water on the floor while she was pouring refills, and the big blonde (Tammy) is carrying drinks under her arms and pressed up against her body! THE FOOD? Well we were the second party to be seated after we waited 1.5 hrs for the place to open at 3pm. We watched the big blonde waitress take orders from a group who came in after us, and AFTER A 50 MINUTE WAIT AND NO FOOD AND WATCHING EVERYONE AROUND US EATING WE GOT UP AND WALKED OUT! Your big blonde slob of a waitress came outside and asked if we thought we'd been forgotten? I said everyone that came in after us was eating and she went into making excuses about it being $.50 wing night and a large batch of wings getting dropped in at once! I told her "I'm not going to argue with you!" "I'm from Vegas and I've traveled the entire US and overseas and I've been in some very fine restaurants and some real dives and I HAVE NEVER WAITED 50 MINUTES TO GET MY FOOD ON ANY GIVEN DAY ANYWHERE UNTIL BLUE CANOE! So the cheapskate $.50 chicken wing regulars take precedence over people who got in the place first and are paying for full price entrees? I USUALLY have a great time here when I come from Chicago. Not so much this round The staff is usually awesome. Not so much this time. The pregnant bartender seemed agitated with my questions. She was condescending with my order when I asked for an order that had meat and veggies but they were a side dish... the main ingredient was fries. I asked for it without. She was just rude. And they seemed to be over worked on said busy night. I went to ask where our food was or when it would be up, she just stated she would check on it in a while, as she tended to her guest at the bar... Why over extend yourself and other guests cant get attention? Why not ask for help? I ended up asking some one else, another server walking past for help with my order pick up. This time to Mississippi was not satisfactory. But, I enjoy their food. Next time I will order via phone, and not be bothered with the bartending staff. She would more than likely be out on maternity leave when I return back to Mississippi. Hopefully with a nicer and friendly attitude.
