The food was flavorful, and I have to give credit where it's due. The fish tasted great. Unfortunately, the portion size was incredibly disappointing. For nearly $20, I received one piece of fish and four very small strips, which didn't come close to justifying the price. I left feeling like the portions were unnecessarily limited for what I paid. The quality of the food was there, but the value simply wasn't. I hope management reevaluates the portion sizes because customers shouldn't feel shortchanged after spending that much. read more

To clarify the stars: for people who will like this place (count me in!), five stars. For the average person, three stars for being an acquired taste. So, four. I tried only the catfish nachos from the menu, and they lived up to their billing. The catfish was expertly blackened, the balance between fish, chips, cheese, and sauces was perfect, and a half-order was plenty for one person. Unexpectedly bang-on as a flavor & texture combo, the only thing the nachos lacked was a tastier beer accompaniment. Since this is a little-known, hard-to-spot and relatively small neighborhood bar, almost everyone who comes in is a local regular who sits in the same spot every day. So, only the most mainstream of mainstream beer is available, tap or bottle. I made do with a draft Shiner Bock, which was fine, but I encourage management to broaden their clientele's tastes a bit for their own benefit, as well as for the occasional out-of-towner intrigued by the Yelp review and/or looking for food at an off-hour. That said, everyone is very friendly and welcoming, and Rachel deserves all the accolades she gets in the reviews -- the very model of a tavern proprietor. You go, Rachel! read more

Looking for lunch, found them online. The Tupelo downtown is so adorable! The server was fast and friendly. I got a Club sandwich with fries and my mom a shrimp po' boy. She loved the po' boy, and this was seriously the BEST club of my life. Buttered and grilled bread, with swiss and (I think) cheddar cheese. Seriously the best Club I've ever eaten. They just bumped my previous favorite from 1991 (!) down to #2. One thing though, that was kind of surprising since we were there right at lunch - the fries weren't hot. :( read more

This place is tucked in an alley way but easy to find. We got there early to beat the lunch crowd. It filled up rather quickly. Total locals joint. Had a full bar that we didn't partake of. Next time. The menu is pretty basic which I appreciate. It means they are very good at what they do which is why we skipped past the salad option and ordered an array of fried options. We got fried pickles, fried okra, fried mushrooms, catfish nachos, cheeseburger, ribeye sandwich, potato skins (There were four of us). Fried okra was the best. Tasted fresh and had a really crispy breading. All of the food was good but not able to finish it. Service was good. I recommend going here if you can beat the lunch crowd. :) read more

Shawna was delightful. She was enthusiastic and fun and made you want to come back and hang out with her the next time she's working. And the burger was amazing. After a long, dull drive it was cool to relax in a dimly lit, steamy little alley way and enjoy my meal. But I hope the city of Tupelo gets their act together and allows a bar patron to have a mixed drink in the alleyway. Beer lovers can drink until they pass out but a guy who wants a mixed drink has to drink it inside. Lame. Oh. Don't forget to check out the elk head near the bar. Prices very reasonable, but the place is 1 step up from a dive. It was dark and no music. I didnt order alcohol, so I guess that demotivated the server, as she never checked back and I had to request the check. The burger was like a handmade patty and had potential. It was fine with a little added salt, but beware that it was served medium rare. I dont mind that when I order it, but it caught me off guard, and I probably wouldn't have ordered that way from a place of this caliber. However, I didnt get sick, so apparently it was ok. Food is pretty good. Stick to the basics or get the catfish nachos. Those things are several random emojis meant to depict excitement good. The best part about this joint is the 9pm-11pm happy hour. That's when it gets interesting. It's Tupelo, so if you're not from there they'll know, and they'll chat you up. I've been to the Stables over a dozen times over the last five years. First of all, this place has an awesome atmosphere and is pretty relaxed. HOWEVER, there drinks have gone down hill over the years mostly due to what I believe to be sanitation issues. My last time here (Christmas 2015) I sent back an Amaretto Sour after discovering the sour mix was disgustingly undrinkable. Moments later a friend had ordered a round of lemon drops for the table, and we discovered they were also terribly disgusting. Two of my peers, being bartenders themselves (at other bars), were disgusted by the product and service. After discussions with **the owner** about a refund for the lemon drops, the owner was unapologetic and offered no explanation or reimbursement. The flavor tasted like ice tainted by food in a freezer, and after further discussion with experienced bartenders (at another location) we speculate that this god awful flavor may be due to mold or similar unsanitary conditions possibly in the ice machine or tap gun. In closing, if you decide to come to this bar, just order beer or drinks neat. Avoid ice, water, and sour mix, and don't expect good service. I, however, will not be going back to an unapologetically unsanitary atmosphere. read more

If you are from out of town, this place may come as a bit of a shock or a bit of a cultural discovery, depending on how you look at it. While Tupelo rolls up the sidewalks very early, this place runs until the midnight bell tolls. It was very busy on the Friday night of my visit. Here are the good and bad points... 1. They may have live music inside. 2. They have outdoor seating, but this is mainly taken by smokers. 3. Of the 4-5 bottled beers available, Heineken was the most exotic. Michelob Ultra seemed to be the popular choice. 4. Service is either terrible or you know the routine and roll with it. 5. They do have a full bar, but I wouldn't temp highly complicated concoctions. 6. The place is loud and fun, or just loud. It is definitely a casual place to go in Tupelo for some local experience and Michelob Ultra. read more

The food was good and I love the location, but when I walked in I just stood there for about three minutes while a server just walked past me two times. The third time she approached I asked her if I could just sit anywhere and she said where ever I like.I pick an out of the way table (I was eating by myself and when I do that I like to sit where I can watch people) and sat time at the only clean table. When I put my phone down I noticed the table was very sticky. I sat there for a few minutes before a server came up and asked me if anybody had gotten my drink order. The answer was no. She apologized and that the server forgets this table is in her section. I ordered a burger and a beer and they were very good. Was at the cigar store next door. Several of us wanted a Stable's burger, which I'd had a dozen times. The owner wouldn't take the order, saying we had to come get them individually. I heard there was some petty disagreement between Stable's and the cigar store. What kind of establishment refuses business? It was very inconvenient for us, but we simply ordered from somewhere else. We have always ordered lots of food from Stable's, but no more. The burgers are good, but so is KOK, Mugshots and the Neon Pig, and they seem to appreciate your business. read more
