Got there and the wait wasn't too bad. Around 15 minutes. Lots of seating inside! Ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict, stack of pancakes, and Chicken Fried Steak. First of all, the huge stack of 4 pancakes was only $9. My parents and I could've just eaten the pancakes and been satisfied. Holy cow. They were massive. Also, the eggs Benedict hollandaise sauce was creamy and delicious. Everything was balanced well. For drink, I got the pumpkin spice latte. So cute and delicious. We had extremely good service. The food came out quickly and our waiter was attentive and kind. I would 100% recommend coming again. Great service, quality food, affordable prices.

I created my own breakfast skillet and it was so good! I'll get more peppers next time because they did a great job . Our server William was very friendly. You can see he enjoyed working there and engaging with people . The restaurant is always clean and the greeter was welcoming also. My coffee was cold but that's not a no for me .

Food: not pretentious or overly predictable... just delivers quality food and a wide choice of options. Service: non-pressing, just friendly and responsive waitstaff. Ambiance: relaxed and comfortable

After a long hike, my buddy recommended us trying this place. She mentioned the crepe was delicious with the fruit and that the pancakes were really thick. We ended up getting the Oma plate which we could order the crepe for part of our meal. My buddy added bacon to hers. The potatoes were crisp, eggs cooked just right and the crepe was delicious without being to sweet.

Great food, but lately lousy service. Order took forever, server didn't listen to basic requests like "no ice", and then the hair in the fries! Meanwhile, they charge extra for about a tablespoon of dijon mustard (but no discount for the hair). No real concern from management. Sad to see service slacking. Normally wonderful food.

This is the second time coming here. We love the Jägerschnitzel with red cabbage, Spätzle, potato salad and fries. The red cabbage tasted delicious It was very flavorful and homemade and didn't taste like it came out of a glass jar already premade. The potato salad was a This is also delicious but some of the potatoes should have cooked a little longer. I love the bacon in it. the closest German food we tasted so far. The Schnitzel is huge compared to other places.

The food is amazing and every time we are in New Braunfels this is our go to for Brunch. They have great wholesome comfort food and I highly recommend it! Because they make the best dishes it is no surprise that you will have a long wait before being seated, but it is so worth it!

Food was delicious...I can't believe I have never eaten here before. Our server William was on point with his awesome customer service. I will definitely request William next time we visit. My husband loved his hamburger and my breakfast was yummy. A really cute place to visit you must when in New Braunfels

Overall a good meal! We got the Opa's breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and potatoes. The potatoes are amazing!!! If you like german-inspired breakfast I feel like this place is good for you. Service was good too!

Came in for breakfast on Memorial day weekend. The restaurant was very clean and simply decorated. The service was quick and friendly. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs and it was absolutely fantastic! This is probably the best Chicken Fried Steaks I have had while in New Braunfels! Would definitely recommend for a breakfast or to any CFS lovers!

Came here on a Friday morning and it was surprisingly busy. Only about a 12 minute wait though. I got the Monte Cristo. I was impressed! It was a big meal and plenty filling. It was great with syrup on the side. Classic diner feel inside. Our server was a sweetheart and helped us split the bill. A nice quick breakfast.

This place never disappoints! The service is great, the food is always delicious. The fireplace in the sitting area is cozy..especially this time of year! My favorite is the Oma's Plate with the French crepes, topped with pecans and fresh strawberries, yum!

Home made Potato chips & tomato basil soup. Yumm!

We intended to have 2 each but had to stick with one in order to function afterwards. I had the CFC Biscuit Benedict and you can customize it with spicy chicken or hot honey. I got the hot honey and it was perfect! It was so delicious I don't leave a morsel behind. My friend and I shared the salted caramel brownie for my birthday, and that was also delicious. I can't wait to come back here and this says a lot since I'm not big of fried chicken. Theirs is fried to perfection (soft on the inside and just crunchy enough on the outside). Last night I finally brought my husband to try it after hyping it up for so long, and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Things have definitely changed. I was really looking forward to the chicken fried chicken, only to find out they were completely out of mashed potatoes. For a place known for chicken, that was surprising. So I ended up just sharing some of my husband's meal and our appetizer. The cornbread has always been something I rave about, especially with their hot honey. This time it came out dry, and the hot honey had no heat at all. It just was not the same. My husband's fried chicken was honestly the worst part. It was burnt, with a layer of black under the breading, and tasted like it had been overcooked to the point of being charred. There is no way the kitchen did not see how dark it was before serving it. That said, his sides were still great, so at least part of the meal was enjoyable. Our friend's chicken sandwich was not terrible, but it did not taste fresh like it used to. It felt more like something frozen and heavily breaded instead of the quality we had experienced before. One positive was the service. Our server was wonderful, and the rest of the staff was kind and attentive as well. I accidentally spilled my drink right after it arrived, and they were quick and gracious to replace it even though it was completely my fault. That was very much appreciated. The other issue that really took away from the experience was the atmosphere. Halfway through our meal, a large group of adults sat in the courtyard and had their children sit separately at a table right next to us, while their parents remained in another section of the patio. The kids were clearly having fun and playing games, which is great, but they were also very loud and screaming just a foot away from our table while their parents enjoyed quiet drinks elsewhere. There were completely open sections of the patio farther away where they could have sat, so it was frustrating that they were placed right next to the only other table of adults trying to enjoy a night out. It ended up being very disruptive and took away from what we had hoped would be a relaxing evening. Overall, I was really disappointed. This used to be a place I highly recommended, but after this visit it feels like the quality and attention to detail have slipped. I truly hope they can get back to what made them so great before.

The Gruene Door did not disappoint! The drinks, appetizers, salad and main courses were all phenomenal with no exceptions. As someone with decades of food service experience, it's rare that I don't have something that I would change. But the service and food were both fantastic. The music was lively but not overbearing and the patio was calm. Our waiter was attentive, but not overly so; so we felt our needs were met without being hovered over. If I were to suggest anything, it might be nice to have candles on the tables, and maybe even a fire in the outdoor fireplace even though it wouldn't have needed for heat; just ambiance. Also the windows are tinted so darkly that initially I was afraid the restaurant was closed, so maybe consider an illuminated open sign facing the main road. But this place was great! We'll be back!

Table for 1, Occasion: 70th Birthday, and really looking forward to it since I skipped breakfast. The food was on point, as expected, BUT: The service from waitress LB went from dismal to downright baddd, from start to finish. It took her several minutes to approach my table. Her appearance matched her skills. Like she had just got out of bed, a real mess. She had poor communication skills, very loud, rushed, abrupt. Not a shred of finesse, which does not match the vibe of this nice restaurant. The lunch crowd was gone, there were 1, 2, then 3 tables filled in a large room that had ~10+ empty tables. But this poor thing ran frantically around and from room to room like it was a packed Saturday night. And there was a second waiter also assigned to our room. As I waited patiently for my lunch plate, she never once checked in. I wondered if they served bread, crackers, anything. I finally asked another waiter who said he'd tell her to get me their homemade bread. Waited some more, never spoke with her as she zipped by my table doing I have no idea what. She finally brought my lunch plate and still no bread arrived. Well into my entree, she arrived with one small square of delicious bread and butter explaining she had to toast it. Never saw her again throughout my meal. Finished, waited ~10 minutes, and she finally brought the check. Asked me if I wanted to see the dessert menu. I said no thanks. Is it ME? Or when a restaurant KNOWS it's a birthday, don't they at least offer a comped dessert?? Even Dairy Queen offers a small free treat. I worked at DQ in high school, and can confirm that LB wouldn't cut it there. I gave her a gift card and she disappeared for a long while. Returned with my card balance, then loudly asked if I wanted to pay her tip off the gift card. I said yes. LB: "How much?" (Loud) Me: "20%". (I gritted my teeth when I said that because had we not been announcing all this I would have left her maybe $5. She looked at my ticket and loudly said, "I guess that is about $11.63. Is that okay?" I quietly replied okay. She grabbed my card again then had to go get a manager to help her figure out how to charge the card for only tip. Meanwhile, the couple at the table heard everything and when she left the room they gave me a look of empathy and we all shook our heads. LB FINALLY returned and wished me a happy birthday. Bless her heart. How in the world does a nice, reputable restaurant let a server get away with all this? All the restaurant's expense, labor, and best intentions fly out the window when one server is low performance. I will return to The Gruene Door, but only on the condition that I'll be assigned another waiter.
