So, I've been disappointed with this whole "city of gastronomy" thing here in Tucson. There are some great places but a lot of horrible crap too. I didn't expect much when I came here but I was blown away by everything from the service and food to the views and atmosphere. Had the brisket, ugly steak, potato salad, fries cornbread and dinner roll. Everything was cooked to perfection and flavorful in a way that's rare these days. The food was seasoned but it was the meat itself and however it was smoked, that made most of the flavor. Talked to the owner for second and told him how awesome everything was but I'm not a big fan of lean brisket. Don't get me wrong, the brisket was awesome but I like the fat (don't judge me). A few minutes later, he comes out with some free full fat brisket slices for me and my gf. The waitress that worked our table was the perfect balance of personality and friendliness. I thought she might be one of the owner's daughters cause she seemed so knowledgeable of the food and just showed that she actually cared about every diner's experience while there. This is now my second favorite place in Tucson, after Bottega Michelangelo, but that's just cause I love Italian food more than BBQ. I LOVE THIS PLACE! The only problem I have is that now I'm gonna have to starve myself and workout a lot more cause I plan on going back over and over again until I eat everything on the menu. read more

I've been here twice and it's been great both times. The patio is great this time of year and there's a killer view of the mountains! Our server was helpful and friendly. The owner was there and greeting people, which is always nice. The food was delicious and the only thing which prevents me from giving it 5 stars is the meats were a bit fatty. We ordered the 3 meat platter to split. The brisket was perfect! The shredded pork and chicken were both small piles of meat and I noticed the pork especially had quite a bit of fat and even some gristle. Here's the thing, if my plate has a huge pile of meat on it, I'm fine with a little bit of fat but if I only get a small pile of meat, I don't want any of that to be large globs of fat. It needs to be nice meaty chunks. I don't want to have to sift through it looking for the good meat, I just want to stick my fork in and know that I'm gonna pull out something I want to eat! So the pork was disappointing and we ended up leaving quite a bit of fat and gristle behind. Everything else was great. The coleslaw was nice and fresh and crisp with a tangy dressing that wasn't too sweet. Our friends all enjoyed their food as well. This place was a really pleasant surprise. I tried the jackfruit BBQ sliders which were actually good. The chicken was moist white meat and excellent and the bread it was on really made the sandwich - one of the best sandwich buns I've had. The fries (one of the ways I judge a place) were perfectly seasoned, stayed crispy and not at all soggy or oily. The potato salad was just a little creamy and very satisfying. Hoping to find a good local brisket option but disappointed- everything looked/smelled delicious, but the brisket (6oz, two beautiful slices) was unfortunately more than half fat! Baked beans, cornbread and brisket loaded mac were all under expectations (too moist, and the fatty brisket again). However, the Brussels sprouts (like Capital Grille) and cole slaw (pineapple-like freshness) were excellent. Service was attentive and friendly- a lot of potential here. However, with the relatively high price, we won't likely take a chance again for awhile. read more

They are doing a GREAT job. Working hard and providing good, good food with a welcoming atmosphere and good beers. We've been before and liked it a lot. We made reservs for a party of 11 during Cmas. Some from here...some from Colorado. 3 with gluten issues. Our server Stephanie was outstanding, providing good info AND humor and very patient. We had 3 generations of family, so a lot. Our food was delicious...everyone was happy.....served quickly.....many different choices by all and all were happy. We would suggest this place to anyone. First time to this place. It's a great looking place. The food was alright compared to other BBQ I have had in Tucson. I have had incredible BBQ all over the USA; this is not one! Had a 3 meat combo, brisket-sausage- pulled pork. The sides were good (fries coleslaw cornbread). Brisket - not a lot of flavor, plate had three small and thin cuts of it. The Sausage - the one sausage was medium in size and was crispy outside (good), but very dry and overcooked. The Pulled Pork - very little taste to it unless you add BBQ sauce. Very small portion. The Combo was $27-$28, and for that price there was not a lot of meat! I might try again, maybe a sandwich (better value?). Now the bad part. The waiters add food to the plates (both meats and sides) as cooks are preparing meat and fries. The waiters (females) who I watched did not wear gloves and were touching the existing food on plates they're adding things to. I saw one lick her fingers after placing food onto a plate from a large spoon (it was chopped chicken on to a bun) using a hands (no gloves) and then grabbed the plate with those licked finger near the sandwich to serve. This is horrible and in my opinion; a health violation. Cooks had gloves but another staff augmenting food plates with other items didn't wear gloves and even wipe her hands on her pants and then grabbed the plate to serve a customer. We had an awesome hike in Catalina S.P. We stopped to celebrate. It was happy hour, they did not have any of their happy hour beers, potato skins, or shrimp deals as advertised. No problem. Just give give us some ribs and mac n cheese. My son nor I could eat the mac n cheese when delivered. Comped us too salty fries in return. Horrible. Ribs were barely edible. Worst BBQ in Tucson. My friends and I took our kids to a picnic there to have a nice meal and a good time; however, we didn't get either. After asking for the menu 3 times and not receiving it, we went to get it ourselves. We thought our food was going to come out right away because we watched all the other customers order and get their food right away--even parties that arrived after us. Unfortunately, we were wrong and had to ask for our food twice; we even asked to cancel, but then they brought it out immediately. I tend to be empathetic of businesses that are busy and capable of human error, but watching all the other customers get their menus, food, and drinks right away, while our kids were crying for their food, was not pleasant. This experience made me feel targeted and unwanted; I definitely won't be coming back or recommending this establishment. read more

BUT when one and a half hours rolled by and we still did not have our food, we walked out. The guys were starving and went over to In and Out. This was our first time trying it and we are glad we did. The Cuban was had on a pretzel bun with a side of Mac and cheese. The sandwich was delicious and well thought out and I substituted the texas toast bread for the pretzel bun. The bbq sauces at the table were very good and each of the 3 brought out different flavors. The Mac and cheese to me was just meh. I'm a Mac and cheese/food snob and professionally trained in the kitchen. The Mac needs alot more flavor for me to order again and missed the texture mark as well. read more

Lots of flavors in these dishes. The Maui shrimp appetizer has just the right amount of spice. I chose the brisket and loaded tots, so yummy . Topped it off with a prickly pear lemon martini. My wife and I tried this last weekend, and we were pleasantly surprised. I decided to go with their take on a Cuban sandwich - BBQ style - called the Cuban AZ, which came with sliced brisket and pastrami, with mayo and mustard and pickles on grilled Texas toast, and it was really good. I would definitely order it again (although, as i told the GM later when he came around to chat) that the pastrami -- which was very good - overpowered the sandwich as I couldn't taste the brisket very much. Also, because the brisked is sliced very thing (several layers, as opposed to just a thick slice), that probably contributed to it. I elected to go with fries as my side and they were also very good. My wife ordered the Chicken Cobb salad, and she loved it. plenty of pulled chicken and a very healthy portion. The restaurant itself is a very open and bright concept, with a combination of high and low eating tables. they are spread out enough where you don't feel as if you are sitting right next to someone, and there is also a bar and several TVs scattered throughout with various sporting events on when we were there. there is also a spacious outdoor eating area. There are several other items on the menu I am looking forward to trying, and I would definitely consider ordering the Cuban AZ again. It should be noted that there is also a sister restaurant called Wildfire Wings that is a few miles down on Oracle, and Fork & Fire does serve those wings here as well (which I will also try at some point). I also want to add that the GM stopped by and we chatted for a while. He shared that they are always looking for ways to get even better and do encourage feedback. Sometimes you get managers stopping by to check on the meal but never quite feel like they are vested on the answer. No so here. He actually listened and seemed to care, and you can tell he takes great pride in the restaurants (he covers Wildfire Wings as well) I guess you can tell that I will be coming back, and I do encourage you to give it a try as well. read more

We recently had the opportunity to try the Fork and Fire food truck in our neighborhood. We ended up ordering the mac and cheese with pulled pork and the slawdog millionaire hot dog. The hot dog was pretty messy, but the flavors were excellent (the dog also has some of the pulled pork as a topping). The mac and cheese was very creamy and had a great smoked flavor. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the pricing seemed a little high for the portion sizes provided, but overall, I was really impressed with the quality of the food. Fork and Fire is a place to go!! Many great food items, beer and service. Tatum was our server. She was very busy but was pretty attentive to us. The Maui shrimp appee was great. The Cuban sandwich was great. Didn't like the chicken breast sandwich ... was surprised it was pulled chicken and not a breast and I asked for it plain, nothing on it but Mayo, and it was served with lime oor something on it that I didn't like ... couldn't eat it but others may love?? Lots of things to try on subsequent visits. Unfortunately we have to downgrade our review substantially. Last night they had few tables and we were there for a long time. But not surprised it was not crowded due to food and service. Servers very nice and friendly but need way more training. Drinks sitting at bar for quite awhile as she was walking around aimlessly and casually cleaning off an empty table (one of three as no one was there), totally unaware of guests. Food was awful. Ugly steak was ugly. So over seasoned barely eatable. What happened to the augratin potatoes .. last time pretty good, this time weird flavor. Green bean medley so over spiced, couldn't eat. Tables with bench so uncomfortable, they should consider cushions. Spent $100 on barely mediocre dinner and nice servers but poor service.
