Short review/rant- If you're going to be slow refilling water which isn't cold to begin with as there's no ice, I expect the drinks to be at least be decent. Excellent steak frites though. Anyway, have you ever gone to a restaurant where you liked or loved the food but everything else dampened the experience so much that you would likely never go back? That was my group's experience at this funky little place a week ago or so. Our group of four stopped in here to try their steak frites as it's $24 which sounded like a steal and it is. We had a reservation and we were originally sat in a tiny corner that probably had enough space for three at the most with probably enough room for two plates but luckily, another table opened. We asked our waitress to move over and they checked with the manager and thankfully, we were moved over. We brought over our waters and when the last person arrived, she asked for water and it took a good 20 minutes and asking other staff to get it along with her utensils. I don't expect the best service from a dive bar but there's the bare minimum and this was beyond that. Eventually someone else who I think was managing or at least running at least part of the restaurant became our waiter and it went a lot better. To drink, I had ordered with the original waitress a Watermelon Margarita which was $12 which is reasonable...in theory. She didn't ask about the rim which is odd as it lists with either spicy/salt or both but it arrived eventually in a Bud Light beer glass. I find this odd as every other person's margarita I've seen in all the photos and also on other tables was in a different type of glass but whatever. I tried it and it was horrible and honestly probably the worst margarita I've ever had in my life. I tasted mostly tequila and some type of terrible mix along with a faint sweetness from the watermelon. I would have complained but it was hot and at least it was refreshing once I dumped some water in it to dilute the terrible taste. Our group of four each ordered the FMN Steak Frites $24 with spice rubbed black angus steak, hand cut fries, and chimichurri with three of us ordering medium rare and one person ordering I think medium well. My plate arrived fine along with the other person who ordered it medium well while the other two people's steaks were cooked to well done. They sent it back and it became a bit awkward eating said steaks while waiting for their steaks to be done but eventually, theirs came out properly thankfully. All serving and kitchen issues aside, the steak was great. I am 90% sure it's skirt steak (though it could be hanger) and the portion size was very decent being I believe 10 oz or so and it came with a generous amount of fries. The steak had a bit of chew but not too much with the quality of the meat being nice. The fries were decent as well with the only potential complaint being that they could have been a bit more crispy but that was very likely from the varying degrees of thickness so there really isn't any complaints for them with the slight lack of saltiness fixed by the chimichurri. Said chimichurri was a little bit different than normal being a bit spicier along with the usual heavy garlic flavor along with olive oil and the rest but this was appreciated. All and all, it was excellent. If there were no service/kitchen issues and if I didn't order the margarita, I would have given this place 5 stars easily as the steak frites were well flavored, seasoned, cooked nicely, and it was very reasonable for the price point. However, it would be hard to persuade me to come back here even though I definitely would want to try the steak sandwich or order said steak again. 3 read more

I came here on at 6:30 on a Friday and it was pretty busy. I had a goose Island IPA, sweet potato chips with jalapeño cream sauce, and the steak with a side of fries and chimichurri sauce. It was all very delicious. I would say if you're hungry, get the steak for yourself because i split both dishes which left me hungry. The space wasn't too loud. I was sitting in the back. It was a stormy day and we were waiting for our table at Kiki's to open up and popped into this bar. For starters, the regulars were so kind to carry extra stool over to us, so that we could sit in the corner (by the window) and the bartender was very nice! We will have to return for the food at some point, but special shout out to whomever decorated the bar -- the more you look, the more you discover! A welcome respite from the bad weather. read more

This place is always popping whenever I pass by. They were one of the few open early and on Christmas so we decided to check it out. Definitely a dive bar feel. Dim and dark. Not sure how the kids would feel but they had fun. The food was surprisingly good! Travis bowl - what a great healthy option. The blend of cous cous, arugula, egg and topped with grilled chicken ($$ extra) made it a really worthy meal. I liked that it came with dressing and hummus Avocado toast, chips and guac, and tuna salad - both dishes were happily wolfed down. Great portion and reasonable prices. The server was super chill and the whole vibe of the place is really cool. It's decorated like a surf shack or something, which makes for a casual and lively atmosphere. I got the steak frites and I'm pretty sure it was either skirt steak or hanger steak. It was cooked perfectly medium-rare and was incredibly tender. The chimichurri sauce that came with it had just the right amount of kick and was packed with fresh olive oil and either parsley or cilantro (I couldn't quite tell). All I know is that it was delicious! The fries were thin and crispy, just the way I like them. And to top it all off, I ordered a watermelon margarita that was both refreshing and strong - the perfect combo. All in all, I'd definitely recommend checking out this place. Such a cool vibe in here. Upon walking in, you would immediately assume average bar food, but don't be mistaken this place is miles ahead of that. People who work there are awesome, people eating in there are trendy and super cool. This place definitely attracts a great crowd. I've been here a lot, and honestly am appalled at how horrible the service was today. Usually they're busy so I understand the waiters needing orders fast. Not only was it empty, our waitress has a horrible attitude and snapped on a customer when asked about where the bathroom is. We then sat around for 25 minutes waiting for someone to check on us and bring our check. We were gonna order more drinks but because of how horrible the waiters were acting/ attending to the tables we decided it wasn't worth it. Food here is great, and kitchen got everything out fast. The place seems like a dive bar with intimate seating for food as well. Dress is definitely casual. Service for a moderately filled place is relatively quick. Despite the price ($), the quality of food continues to impress. The steak in the steak with fries was cooked to the intended degree. CHECK Credit Card Account after going!!! They charged me EXTRA than what was on my receipt and what I tipped. Luckily, I caught it, but I know there are people who don't check their accounts. I'm not sure if they targeted my friend and I as we are Asian women in our early 20's. Whether it was intentional or on accident, it's still not acceptable. Although the food was decent, it's incredibly rude to charge customers extra on their credit cards. There was nothing special about the watermelon juice and they were fairly small, too. Stopped by here on the way to Metrograph. Was told it's cute and has solidly okay food. The food was not even 'solidly okay'. How do you mess up a quesadilla like that? It's SO HARD to mess up. I got it as a safe option and because we were in a bit of a rush. But after a long wait I was served a quesadilla with extremely dry chicken, stale tortilla, and almost no cheese. I'm leaving the country soon so my friends thought this would be a good substitute for Kiki's, which had a 45-minute wait on a rainy Thursday night. Luckily the owners of Forgetmenot and Kiki's are really good friends so they offered two dishes from Kiki's on the menu. I really wanted to try Kiki's pastitsio but they didn't have that at forgetmenot so I got the moussaka instead. It was great - everything I wanted and more! The calamari was delicious too but I rather the sauce was something other than yogurt. My friends didn't like the burger they got but the tacos were fine. The place was tight but super cute with throws for patrons who got cold while sitting by the window. However there is no sign for both Kiki's and Forgtmenot which make them a bit like speakeasies. My group definitely overstayed our welcome but the staff was really nice about it. read more

3.5 stars. I came here to check out their fish tacos and the watermelon margarita. The fish tacos were decent. The batter was light and served on a bed of lettuce and radish, with two sauces on the side for you to build your flavors. I thought the fish could have been fried a minute or two longer, as the color was not quite golden brown for that flavor and textural contrasts. It also needed some sriracha to help it along as the sauces were both creamy. The margarita tasted a bit watered down for my liking, but perhaps I like stiffer drinks. But I did like the chill, SoCal vibe here, and the staff was quite friendly as well. I think good bar food overall - I was just on a mission for amazing fish tacos. read more

Came here for a light dinner and a drink on Christmas Day. The outside has no real name on it, though it may have been blocked by a Christmas tree. It looks super divey both in and out, but the charm suites it well. Once seated, the service was super good. The menu is relatively basic but the options are plentiful. I ended up getting the shrimp po boy and my friend got the Travis bowl. The Travis bowl came with a jalapeño yogurt that was phenomenal. My sandwich and fries were also pretty good. Nice bigger pieces of shrimp. The fries were a well seasoned shoe strong variety and dipped well with the sauce that went with the Travis bowl, haha. These two dishes were recommended to us and turns out great. The beer selection was about standard but they appear to keep a nice German bottled beer on hand in addition to the drafts. After a dim sum Christmas lunch feast in Chinatown, my alcoholic friends and I wanted to go day drinking. We found Forgtmenot on Yelp and they were one of the only local bars open. What a gem! Seriously, we weren't expecting this place to be so awesome! The decor is so cool and the service is great...and they make some MEAN DRINKS! Anything from their cocktail menu is going to be good. Personally, I became a fan of their spicy margarita. It's huge, strong, and not too badly priced considering its size. I may have had more than three...and less than ten. Yolo. Alcoholics need food, right? So we ordered nachos with steak and the hummus with veggies. Both were good. Also...I remember none of this but apparently we ordered the cornflake cookies. Why do I know this? There's a picture of them in my phone and in my Snapchat story...so I guess they were good too? Kudos to the staff that had to deal with my rowdy bunch. read more

I came in alone on a Friday afternoon. The place was fairly empty. Plenty of empty seats. I was first offered the seat directly in front of the door but I declined because it was quite chilly outside. I was then led to the back and was given the seat directly outside of the bathroom area. As soon as I sat down I immediately felt rushed. The waitress walked past me numerous times to ask the table next to me if they were ok. Never checked on me once after setting my plate down. I flagged her over for the bill when I was done and quickly exited the place. Food was OK. The shrimp po boy was more spicy than actually flavorful.
