The first problem I had was I could not make an appointment. Whenever I would call, I was only able to leave a message. I've left four messages for them asking to schedule an appointment, but no one returned my calls. I finally got through and made the appointment. Second, the wait is really long. I had an appointment for 3pm and I wasn't seen until 3:40pm. That was just for a pre-screening. I finally saw the doctor at 5:15pm. Their saving grace was their staff and Dr. Shelton. Everyone there was very nice and professional. Dr. Shelton took the time to explain everything thoroughly and gave me time to ask questions. I felt like the quality of care was good. Constantly cancelling and rescheduling appointments. They have 2 and 3 levels of gate keepers, so good luck being on hold forever and a day to try to reschedule. You'll be re-routed to multiple call centers, and if you ask to speak to someone here at the local office it's harder than parting the Red Sea. You'll be on hold for a loooooooong time. Also, they don't even give you 24 hours to respond to their voicemails/cancellations and they immediately called all my Emergency contacts at their job, harassing them to get me to call Foothill back for rescheduling appointments. Who does that??? In all my years I have never dealt with an office that just starts calling all your emergency contacts at their job over an appointment that needs to be rescheduled. Literally, they left the voicemail on my phone at 5:03 and called my emergency contacts at 5:15. So coupled with the difficulty in actually getting the appointment rescheduled I just ended up faxing them to lose my number and that I was no longer interested. Hours are incorrect and/or no one answers the phone. Called multiple times on a weekday (not a holiday) between 8 am through 8:45 am and only heard the automated message. Pressed 0 based on what their website info has on the bottom and spoke to someone who told me I have to call the clinic for the scheduling department. Very confusing. These are simple business logistical matters that confuse and frustrate patients. I strongly do not recommend this clinic. If they cared about their quality of service and they're failing at the simple stuff, I wouldn't trust them with the actual medical side Edit: I finally spoke with someone at 8:48 am who told me the pasadena office doesn't answer calls until 9 am. OMG - Nightmare trying to reach a manager about scheduling issues!! The first time I scheduled an appointment recently, I explained that I only see out of one eye and I seem to be losing vision. They scheduled me with an optometrist! He briefly looked at my eye, but basically only tested me for stronger lenses. NOT HELPFUL! STILL HAVING VISION PROBLEMS. Second time --- I made it clear I needed an ophthalmologist. After a very lengthy, difficult call (phone at their end was horrible quality and he kept getting even my 5 letter last name wrong!), he eventually got me set up for the Glendora office (earliest available, which meant I had to wait a month!). VERY UPSETTING when I showed up for the appointment this morning, they had NO RECORD of the appointment! I drove about 15 miles further to get this appointment --- but there's no record! I was told there was no management at the office today to talk to and when I tried calling the Pasadena office to talk to management there, the phone rings, I'm put on hold (being told how "important my call is"), but they HANG UP eventually, with no one picking up the line. After about 15 calls (yes, I'm persistent!), someone FINALLY picked up, but currently still waiting on hold for her to find a manager for me to speak to....I've been trying to talk to someone for about an hour. VERY UPSETTING WHEN MY VISION MAY BE AT STAKE. Just to be fair, their ophthalmologists seem to be knowledgeable and thorough. But it is extremely stressful when I'm worried about my one good eye continuing to lose vision and yet I can't get appointment!! read more

I had an eye test at Pasadena clinic on 12/21/2022, at the time I was told result would be out in 2 weeks. I called Pasadena Clinic on 1/20/2023 since I had not received any result to my test and I was told someone will contact me. Today is 2/24/2023 I called again to Pasadena Clinic to enquire on my test result and I also asked to speak to a manager, so I was on hold for a supervisor then a random person came on the phone said she was the supervisor but not related to Pasadena clinic. Got authorization last year and had an appt in Sept to get eyedrops to help with a droopy eyelid. The appt went well and they tested the eyedrops and it worked great. Unfortunately, they were out of stock. They told me to call in every week to check. The first times I left a message and they did return my call saying they still didn't have it in stock. However, they haven't returned my last three phone calls. Really frustrating you can never get anyone on the phone too. Two and a half hour wait WITH an appointment! It doesn't matter if you're early or late, the order that you will see the doctor will be completely random because all the paperwork gets mixed up. So if you come here be prepared to wait. But here's a pro tip- be a Karen! A woman, who was complaining and making a big scene, decided she didn't want to wait anymore. Very discouraged with this office. Went in for an 8:45 am appt this morning and by 9:10 hadn't been called. I went to the counter and was told that my vision insurance wasn't active. The girl was on the phone for what seemed, like a long time. Once she hung up, she said she was going to try again. At that point, knowing my insurance was active, I made an appointment with the Glendora office. When I got to work, I was able to verify vision eligibility within 5 minutes. They forget appointments. Always seem surprised when I show up. Once they had no idea why I was there when the dr told me to come back for a return visit. Three times now they do the initial tests, ask you all the same questions they just had you fill out on a form, then lead you back to the hidden waiting room in the back and make you sit back there for an hour. 8am appointments turn into 10am actual Dr time it's ridiculous. I agree with Rohit's review below. I initially had an appointment last year to check for glaucoma, which went well. They wanted me to schedule a follow-up appointment to make sure my condition was not progressing. I made the appointment in September for February of the following year. They called a week before to let me know the doctor was not available that day and would have to reschedule me... to August! I went to my appointment in August and wasn't even seen by a doctor at all. A technician did a test on my peripheral vision. It's now December and I still have not received my test results. I have been calling and leaving multiple messages. They never pick up their phones or return phone calls. Avoid this place if you care about your eyes at all. read more

They have lousy service. They never answer their phones. My mom had cataracts surgery there back in May 2022. Her vision is worse than it was before the surgery. She almost blind. I brought my mom to Foothill Eye Institute for an eye exam/glasses. She is 79 years old and Spanish Speaking only. She was examined by Technician Aly. He was very professional. patient, helpful, and pleasant with my mom. He explained everything to her in her language and made her feel comfortable. I usually go to appointments with her because she isn't always heard or understood, but that was not the case here. We were both very happy. Helen helped her get fitted with her new glasses and was also very nice and patient. I would recommend this eye care medical group. read more

You cannot reach them by phone, you cannot reach them by email, they have a call center, you can leave 100 messages, no one will call you back. I took my grandfather for his appt and Glenda was the person who called us in. She greeted us which was fine but when we got inside the room she was rude, interrupted when we were giving her the information she was asking for and was talking down to us. I even had to snap at her. My grandfather speaks little English and rather than getting someone who spoke Spanish or asking me to translate she kept saying the same thing louder and louder. She asked a question which my grandfather didn't understand or thought he was giving the correct answer to and she responded with "he wouldn't be here with us". Terrible treatment. Their doctors are good and I have zero complaints about them. I've beed treated by 3 or 4 of thier doctors. My complaint is about their business office. THEY ARE TERRIBLE. UNRESPONSIVE. Their telephnone message says "Foothill Eye Institute" but the letterhead on their invoices and billing say Foothill Eye Medical Group". Can't find them in the Better Business Bureau. I leave many messages about a small billing question and they never call back. That question (I'm not even calling it a dispute) is now 1 year old. Finally, I wrote them a letter explaining in detail why I insist on a conversation to resolve this dispute. About 2 weeks later I got a call back form somebody who hear my point of view and agreed the office did not handle this properly. I was promised a call back. It never came. I've been coming here for years, and generally have been satisfied. But things have slipped. A few weeks I came in to renew my contact lens prescription, and was told that the eye test they perform for that is not a regular, thorough eye exam. So I made an appointment for that. This morning I waited 45 minutes to be seen by clinicians, and had my eyes dilated. Then I waited another 45 minutes to see the actual doctor, who couldn't understand why I was there. She said she was a retinal specialist. I told her I had retinal issues in the past, and she asked how long ago. I asked why she couldn't just look it up, because they were handled at that clinic. She said all client records are archived and take a long time to retrieve. I felt like saying, "What is this, 1930?" Still confused, she looked at my eyes and then told me to have the person at the front desk schedule my next annual appointment. That person told me she couldn't do that--they can only schedule six months out. Why didn't the doctor tell me that? I've had it with this place. I've been coming to this eye clinic for about a year now. It's on my insurance, not much choice. It's always a wait, but staff do a pre-exam before the doctor comes in, which helps, but it's still always long. Today, I came in to see a specialist who I've trying to see for 7 months now. They rescheduled me twice, and every time my appointment gets further and further away. Today is finally the day. I've been waiting over 1-3/4 hours and the doctor finally came in and the visit took less than 10 minutes. Many people here have serious eye problems, many are seniors or disabled. If I could give zero, or better yet negative stars, this clinic would be deserving. Two months before you can see the doctor. They demanded my records from my previous optometrist and ophthamologists which were sent. I called to make sure they received them and filed them appropriately but they didn't return my call. They also didn't send me the new patient forms and then huffed when I told them I had not received them so I didn't have them to hand over at my first appointment. Then they lost my previous records and wanted the fax numbers for my two previous eye care providers! Guess what, I don't have those numbers with me -- no normal person does. The front desk gets upset when I told them I called to make sure they had them but they didn't return the call. The technician mentioned I had very dry eyes (which I do from an autoimmune condition) but the cataract surgeon didn't discuss with me the need to do weeks of rehydration of my eyes so I could get the best result. They also do not give you a copy of your informed consent as required by law and the surgeon does not sit with you during your appointment so that you make the correct selections. Finally, they insist on using their preferred pharmacy -- and then that pharmacy only delivers (this stupid pharmacy does deliveries when this stupid clinic could have sent it to my regular pharmacy so I could pick up the pre- and post-op medications). It took ten days for the surgeon's "preferred" pharmacy to have the medications ready and I was told delivery was going to be between 12-4 PM and then the delivery person arrives more than 90 minutes early and LEAVES without the delivery. So it looks like I will have no medications (one of which you have to take before surgery). I took my parents for cataract surgery on both eyes. I have been a healthcare administrator for years. This place is slipshod, rude, uncaring, and disorganized. I only went here because they are the only clinic in my HMO network. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

Lots of parking. On time appointments make for an easy visit. Comfy waiting room, probably needs some updating, interior-wise (but I'm not complaining). And I really liked Dr. Gutmark. Young doctor, very pleasant, mild and gentle. The busy staff were courteous as expected. The location is convenient. I'll be back, well, I say that just to prove my point, but I really don't want to go back because I want my eyes to be healthy. Lesson learned: protect your eyes... always wear sunglasses. read more

Dr. Zhang has been very helpful to me in getting rid of my cataracts! She did both of my surgeries and is very knowledgeable and professional. She took time at each visit to answer my questions and to tell me what was going to happen. When I had questions after the surgery I reached her even on the weekend and she answered right away. I don't know how I could have a better cataract surgeon. Her assistant, George, has also been super friendly and helpful. I was afraid I was going to have to stop driving at night but now I can see clearly again! read more

Sr. Ortiz is very courteous, affirmatively helpful, and all together professional in a manner that inspires confidence.
