If you think this Dr is rude, then you are wrong. He's a typical straight to the point Dr with no BS. Very knowledgeable and really good at explaining what can alleviate my symptoms as well as possible causes. He went extra miles by printing out a sheet of the disease info and explained what I can do to minimize or control the progression of disease. Made appointment in November 2022 for March 2023 appointment at 10:30am. Got there at 10:15am and still have to waited for 1 hour just to get called in room. What the point for appointment when I still have to wait so long. Staff so unprofessional, not recommended this place. Was referred by primary doctor to seen here. Never going have be referred to this place again. If understaffed set limits how many clients can be seen one day. He is a competent and knowledgeable doctor but also straight forward. This review is not about him. It is about his front desk staff in the Rosemead office. If you decide to go see him, make your appointment with his Monterey Park or Pasadena office. Vivian in the Monterey Park office is quite professional. Don't bother with the Rosemead office. The staff there are rude, and they will cancel your appointment a few hours before your appointment time. I waited 1 year for an annual exam appointment for my disabled mom! If you call, there is 1 Vietnamese girl who always answered the phone (unfortunately), she will hang up on you while you are still talking! So, don't bother going to the Rosemead office unless you want to be yelled at by this condescending, uneducated, rude, and snobbish woman!!! read more

I was referred to Dr. Calvin sometime ago since my eyes were getting blurry and I was getting headaches so I looked him up and made an appointment. It took a month to just get to see him in the meantime I went to see my doc and she recommended me to get some eye drops until I see him. Turns out I needed glasses for the first time in my life. Dr Calvin gave me a load of information to swallow but was very patient and provided me with an information packet. How I need to rest my eyes frequent since I was on the computer 24hours a day. My right eye started with a cataract problem, I was looking and trying to find a doctor with experience and with a comfortable price since I do not have health insurance coverage, I even contemplated going outside of California for the cataract surgery, I was very afraid that things did not turn out well because of past bad experiences with other doctors, when I met Dr. Calvin T. Eng and Vivian it was a relief. They treated me with respect and professionalism, at that moment my fears disappeared. The eye cataract surgery was a success due to Dr Eng's experience in the field.I'm glad I choose him to take care of my eyes issues. The Dr. Provided great medical care but the Rosemead front ofice staff is rude & insufficient. Patient has to wait a long time just to get an appointment. Patient has no option to pick the appointment time, pretty much take it or leave it (when requested). Patient has to return the next day to pick up signed document that was turned in a week ago because staff was too busy to look for it (there are 3 staff. The wait at the office is 1.5-2 hours even with appointment & the admission is random (make sure to bring some snack). read more

It is about this person name Maggie, i dont know her position and i do not care. She was the one that handled my phone calls and questions. Maggie, if you see this, i tell you now that you are unprofessional, unethical, impatient, unemphatic, incompetence, disrespectful. You are not suitable to work at a medical clinic when you lack of all of those mentioned. You are narrow minded, you dont want listen to patient's opinions of how to handle difficult-fill-in schedules and most importantly is shorten patient's wait time, especial for eye surgeries. its dangerous that pts has vision problems yet still have to drive to work. YOU KNOW that we have almost zero options to choose providers becuz of HMO plans and you take advantage of the system's accessibility to bully patients, to gain control , u talk to patients like a dictator. i am ashamed of your behaviour. you are a disgrace to our ppl as a healthcare worker. read more

I have been here a few years ago, and now remember why I never came back. Office staff is insufficient. I informed front office that I need to update my information. Never updated all my information after 7 years. AND the main reason why I'm writing my review is how Perez handle my eye exam. First I never got my eyes dilated and was told that I needed a ophthalmology referral and it's not covered under my eye plan. WRONG WRONG! I happen to work with my IPA and review the referrals for an approval, and is a cover benefit under my eye plan and I have no medical issue present as my insurance verified my plan. So After waiting over 2 hours arguing with office manager they agreed to dilate my eyes. Never will come back again!! read more

Takes two months to make an appointment and they don't even take you in on time. Waited one hour and still haven't been help. The woman at the front desk reason for me to not be on time because she had to check on my insurance. She could of ask me to come in 30 mins in advance if that was the problem. Should put no star for their Lens department. That staff has no empathy on senior. Done with Dr appointment and needed to adjust my father's frame. Told us to wait outside because she is helping another customer. Totally get it due to social distancing. Check back in after 45 minutes and she told us she is fully book and couldn't serve us. Told us to make appointment for adjusting my pair of lens. It's truth that we may not buy anything today. But certainly will not care after today. He is the best doctor. Last year he did cataract surgery for me. He was not like other doctors who just want to use different ways to get extra money from you and promote multiple focus lenses to earn more money. He was very honest and told me the advantages and disadvantages for single lense and multiple lenses, what percentage of them use single or multiple lenses, also giving me time to search google and then make an decision. The surgery outcome was very good. I strongly recommend this doctor. I plan to ask for his consultation for another surgery this year. read more

I've been coming to this office off and on for about 10+ years since I first started wearing glasses and contacts as a teen. I came in recently to get another contact lens exam and fitting and felt right at home again. Dr. Nguyen saw me and was very professional and friendly. The entire exam and fitting lasted about 45 minutes and I did not feel rushed at all. She explained to me the pros/cons of my options and made sure to tell me what she was doing at each step of the exam. First off, the first available appointment I got was not till in 5 months time, which could be partly due to the fact that I can only go to the last appointment of the day. But still 5 months and I was really surprised and I thought, he must be really good. If that's the case, I'll wait then. It was my first time there as a patient and the front desk know it as they ask if it was my first time there. However, they did not mention to me that they do not accept any form of cards for payment. So, if you do not have cash or check, you have to go to the bank or find an ATM machine to get money. On top of that, about a week before my appointment, I call in to confirm and to let them know that my insurance have change. I asked if that could be a problem and was told no. When I got there, I was told that they no longer accept my insurance. Needless to say I was upset and told her that I called in and asked and that was not what I was told. I told them off for not verifying it when I called in and I had to take time off work and now they are telling me they do not accept it. So, they did. That's when the payment problem comes in. Cash or check only. They didn't even apologize for not informing me over the phone about it and when I asked them what they expect from patients that neither have the cash nor check to do so and they didn't inform them. The lady just kept quiet and said nothing. Needless to say, that added another stress to what was going on and I had to leave the office to get the money. If I had not taken time off work, I would most likely have walk out then. Dr. Eng was friendly. After the exam, he told me that my eyes were fine and I expressed my concern about the bleeding that my optometrist had previously noticed. He showed me pics of people with really serious eye problem and asked if it looks like that and I said no. It wasn't till I go home that I thought, does it mean it have to be that serious in order for it to be a problem? or shouldn't he at least gave me some info. In short, my optometrist gave me more info than he did. read more
