After examination, Dr Jiang confirmed the presence of the tear and recommended laser treatment to prevent potential detachment in the future. He informed me treatment can be done right away and asked me to sign the consent form. A couple numbing drops later and he began to laser the torn spot. After about 5 minutes, the treatment was done and it was practically painless. The only sensation I felt was slight pressure on the eyeball from time to time. Overall, this was a lot less stressful than I imagined. Highly recommend Dr Jiang!

The security guard at the front was nice and helpful letting us know what time the office is opened and that we could wait in the lobby until they opened. The staff is very nice and helpful to their patients. Very easy to talk to them. The plus was they were able to speak Chinese (Mandarin)to my dad. The technician was efficient and checked his vision, eye pressure (with a tono pen), checking pupils, extra ocular motility (EOM) and getting a complete chief complaint and asked if reading was an issue (which is was not). The one thing I would have checked is confrontational fields, but other than that she did an excellent job. She then proceeded to dilate his pupils and explained to him about the process and the expect his near vision to be blurry due to dilation and to wear sun glasses when outside (due to increased incoming light from pupils being dilated). She performed imaging to check the macula and retina and optic nerve. We then saw Dr. Chao who is a fantastic physician performed a thorough exam and explained to my father about cataract surgery in Chinese, explained what she saw and how bad his cataracts were and asked him specific questions about his vision and discussed the different lens options available and which my father would like to receive. (Standard lens usually set for distance and would require glasses for reading or one can opt for a multifocal lens where you don't need to wear glasses but this type of lens is not covered by insurance and would be out of pocket). Dr. Chao is an ophthalmologist who specializes in Glaucoma (treats patients with high eye pressure which can lead to blindness if left untreated) and is also a cataract surgeon and comprehensive ophthalmologist (sees patients for any eye issues and can refer out to specialists as needed). Then we scheduled a surgery date and will need to see his primary care physician (PCP) for clearance will need to return for a follow up appointment to get his biometry measurements for the lens prior to surgery. My dad was happy with his first visit and looks forward to his follow up visit.

J & J who makes the multifocals said the only way I can get a refund is if the original surgeon removes the lenses. Bottom line: Dr. Huang seems to care more about money than the well-being of his patients. He's a good surgeon--the lenses were put in correctly--but a second doctor I went to said he "undersells" the multifocals. Now my vision is worse than before (one good thing--I no longer have cataracts) but I had to buy new reading and distance glasses. I'm out $6,000 plus another $1,300 for new glasses. Plus the time and trouble, pain and annoyance. And Dr. Huang has disappeared.

I've been seeing Dr. Chang for about 7 years now, great doctor always a good experience…read more My contact lens prescription expired 3 months ago (apparently they only are good for one year) and I just wanted to reorder another box until my next annual appointment in a few months. I looked up that sometimes they can do a courtesy extension of the prescription if your vision has been stable and have no issues. I asked for such an extension but was told multiple times I would have to get another contact lens exam for $160 (out of pocket) in addition to the cost of the lenses. I think that as a long time patient they should be able to accommodate such an easy request, since I would be getting my annual exam soon again anyway. It's not easy to schedule an unnecessary exam especially with a busy schedule, just to get a box of contacts. Bottom line loyalty doesn't seem to count here and maybe it's time to switch optometrists.

Dr Bonnie Woo is amazing…read more My mom had a really bad cataract. Beyond stage 4 is how some doctors described it when most people get them removed at only stage 2. Her vision was almost completely blocked off in her left eye by the cataract. The first specialist we were referred to had low confidence in operating successfully. She scared my mom, so I took her to my doctor for another opinion. My doctor was more confident than the first specialist but still a bit hesitant. She then referred us to Dr Woo. I'm not too certain, but I think she said Dr Woo was one of the top specialists in the field. We set up an appt with Dr Woo, and she agreed that my mom's case was severe but it wouldn't be difficult for her. Her sheer confidence in that initial meeting made my mom love her and agree to move forward asap. Everything went smoothly. Surgery itself was maybe 30 min max even though the doc said it was complicated. She warned that healing would be slower than the average since my mom was a severe case, but she declared my mom practically healed after 2 weeks. She's amazing, but she's definitely in high demand because of it. She definitely doesn't accept walk ins. I think she only accepts severe cases from referrals, but you can always call her office to check!
