We stopped by Fond for lunch right after a morning snorkeling at Napili Bay. Unfortunately, that meant we didn't have our vaccine cards with us so without outdoor seating options available, we just ordered takeout to eat in the car. I really loved the PLT lettuce wraps. 4 lettuce leaves with kalua pork, onion, and tomato jam was flavorful and nicely balanced. Not sure if it was because it was 25% off during lunchtime that the portion size was also less, but I felt like the protein in the bento box was on the small side. The fried chicken bento box came with one piece of chicken thigh and the amount of poke that came in the poke bowl left us still hungry afterwards. This place is located in a strip mall. We had reservations but when we got there it there was only 2 other tables. Pretty empty. The place is cute with the garage door open up front letting the nice breeze in. We were greeted right away and seated to. The people were really nice. One of the other servers was so nice to an elderly couple and took a lot of time explaining their restaurant and the food. We started with the PLT lettuce wraps which were really good. This place overall was just okay. We started off with the fries and calamari appetizers although the calamari was on the smaller side they were both ok and nothing to rave about. For mains we did the 8oz Maui cattle, the holiday menu New York strip, and both options on the Keiki plate of shrimp and chicken. The 8oz Maui came in a skillet with broccoli, grilled onions, and chimichurri overall flavor and cook on the steak was perfect as we ordered medium. The rice had good flavor it was a 4/5. Now the New York Strip special was disappointing. First of all I ordered a medium steak this steak was still mooing it was so undercooked at first I didn't notice because they cut the 12 oz steak in two parts and only saw top half. As the meal progressed I noticed even top half was undercooked I did inform the server and told him I did not want it recooked as I was grossed out and didn't want it anymore. So overall from the plate I ate a little less than 3oz of the steak, a few fries, and a few broccoli pieces. Since we were still hungry we went ahead and ordered the cheesecake and brownie skillet. The skillet was a 5/5 as I thought the chocolate paired so well with the ube ice cream. As we got final bill realized they didn't even discount the NY Strip at all this was 49 and sent back which I thought was very poor customer service. Still undecided if we will be back based on service but they do have a couple of interesting items and I loved the brownie skillet. read more

Came here on a Sunday for brunch with my husband. He made a reservation, but when we showed up, it was obvious none was needed, as we were one of 3 parties in the whole restaurant! It came with BBQ sauce and a white sauce of some sort, both sauces I didn't really care for. We ended up asking for ketchup, which was exactly what I wanted. For my entree, I got the Loco Moco! I was happy to see this was on the menu, as it wasn't featured on their website when I looked ahead of time. I ordered the eggs fully cooked since I'm pregnant, and they unfortunately forgot. However they were able to fix it quickly, and after that, the dish tasted phenomenal!!!! The patty was great, went well with the gravy and rice....match made in heaven. It's not a complicated dish, just not something you see on every Hawaiian cuisine menu, unfortunately. My husband got the Hangover Burger, which was also amazing!!! Fries were Luke warm though, but not a huge deal. The service here was just 2 servers, it seemed like the owner, and also a bus boy. We went to Fond on a Sunday when the chef does a private dinner for only about 14 people at a time. He demonstrated the preparation of each course and gave some very useful cooking tips. Also, with the dinner was included the option to purchase a 4 wine flight. Each wine was paired with the proper course. The dining experience was wonderful, and the other guests were interesting. The seating was conducive to conversation with couples seated on either side of us. The only negative I can find about the experience was that the dinner ended up costing $80 more, before the tip, than we had anticipated. My husband believes that he was quoted about $20 per person less than the cost of the dinners when we got there. We were also led to believe that drinks would be included in that fee. When we arrived, the dinners were $20 more and the wine flight was $40 per person. We opted to share the wine flight. In conclusion, I would highly recommend the experience, but be sure to confirm the pricing before you book your reservation. read more
