We did the Sunday night Chefs counter and loved it! Intimate evening with Chef Jojo, 3 staff and 8 total seats. We really enjoyed getting to hear the stories behind the tasting menu dishes, his overall culinary perspective, and how nothing goes to waste in his kitchen. Menu changes every two months so menu below reflects Jan and Feb from what we heard. We loof forward to visiting again to see what Chef Jojo comes up with next! We definitely want to gate keep this special spot but it's so good we had to share. You need to email in advance to try and get a spot and they reach out one week before to confirm if you got a slot.
We had a large party of 6 adults and 5 children all under the age of 10. We made reservations in advance. Even with the reservation, the staff required us to wait 15-20 min after arriving to be seated. This was interesting since there weren't a lot of patrons in the restaurant. After the wait, we were finally seated. We ordered a variety of appetizers, including poke chips, Caesar salad, and PLT lettuce wraps. All the appetizers were good but nothing amazing. For our entrees, we ordered a number of keiki burgers, the highly recommended fried chicken, the sirloin steak with broccoli, biscuits, mac and cheese, and a variety of sauces. Overall, the food was average. The fried chicken was good but not the best I've had. I'm not sure I'd return if given the opportunity.
Great little find. Nice open area and bar. I liked the tables and decor. The server was friendly and timely. The food was the best. I had the Kale salad and seafood tsunami. The Kale salad was awesome. Really well seasoned and dressed. Didn't even feel like I was eating such a superfood veggie. The seafood was really well cooked. Had mahi mahi, shrimp (which was the best I've had in a really long time) and poke. Would definitely eat there again!
This was a wonderful dinner spot in Maui!!! We had great service, great food and easy to get to. We will be back again! It was a chill spot and looking forward to going back again!
Lots of good options here, including locally made Hawaiian beer. The sauce they use in their burger was really good. And the fries are double fried and perfectly crispy. The pork bowl was good too. I love the art work up on the walls. We will have to be back to try the brownie dessert served with Ube ice cream!
Had dinner with a friend on Saturday evening. Started with the PLT Pork Lettuce Wraps (4 per order - only one left in the picture ). Thought it needed some sort of sauce before biting in; but once you take a bite a pop of tomato marmalade comes through and you realize that no additional sauces are needed. A well balance appetizer. I had the Special-New York steak. The steak itself was cooked to about medium, I believe. The steak was good but what took it over the top was the beurre blanc(?) and the grilled onions. The onions were grilled just enough to get the perfect sweetness. The side of fries were good and crispy but not great. My friend had the Seared Catch. The Mahi Mahi was cooked to perfection. The staff were very attentive and refreshed our drinks frequently without request. The food arrived quickly and at the right temp. Overall a great dinner experience. Will dine again.
Nice local place for a friendly meal. Menu is small but the food is fresh and tasty. We opted for starters only - they are generous portions and shareable. Thr roasted brussel sprouts are well cooked but a bit heavy handed with vinegar. The poke and chips was nicely seasoned and fresh. The PLT - 4 portions was appreciated. Finally. The kale Caesar was fresh and dressed nicely. Service is attentive and helpful. The restaurant has a nice bar set-up and open dining area - we came late (7:30 pm) and it was not too crowded.
Went here for dinner. Reservation at 7- seated pretty quick, but basically took over 10 minutes to get water. The food was pretty good, the flavors good, well seasoned. Started with the chicken bites. Loved that it was crispy because of both the breading and still having the skins attached. Very juicy and tender. The house ranch was herby and creamy- delicious but the BBQ sauce tasted like a basic BBQ sauce. Tried the calamansi daiquiri. I had high hopes, but the cocktail wasn't icy cold, it was... cold in a sense it was clearly shaken with ice, but wasn't "ooo refreshing" cold. Like it say for a few minutes before I got a sip. The flavor was all there though! Ended up ordering the tsunami (2)- the portions were totally off from both bowls. While I got a generous portion of fish (inch thick), the other bowl got less than 1/2 the thickness, yet same cut size? A generous scoop of ahi poke, just drizzled with a basic spicy mayo. The pickled cucumbers was good, but think that sets it apart from anything you can quickly put together at home in 5 mins. Looked at the dessert menu. Ended up passing when I saw it was just local ice cream you can buy at the store, or store ice cream with warmed up chocolate chip cookies or the burnt cheesecake. The flavors were good, but nothing to really write home about. I wished there was just something that made anything pop! The restaurant has potential.
Love this place. We tried this when we were last in Maui and we had to come back! The garlic shrimp is tasty and fish sandwich fresh. Service was friendly and attentive. Dining space is clean and casual. There is ample parking available.
Our first time visit while we are in Maui. We ordered the Seared catch of the day which is Mahi Mahi, Seafood Tsunami and Crunchy Kale salad and Hibiscus Lemonade. The food are so delicious. The Mahi Mahi is moist and flavorful. You don't even need the tarter sauce. The seafood tsunami has Ahi Tuna with spicy sauce and kick to it. It also has soft boil seasoned egg, fish and shrimp. The crunchy kale salad is yummy. We are glad we visited and had dinner. Even though it's on the pricy side but the restaurant is locally owned and we are proud to support local business 'Lahaina strong' will definitely visit again while in town.
I remember reading that F.O.N.D. stood for Feeding Our Neighborhood Daily when they opened up back in 2019. Today, the name has evolved, paying homage to the culinary term which refers to the caramelized bits and drippings of browned food found at the bottom of the pan which when deglazed, forms the base for the dish. ATMOSPHERE: Located in the Napili Plaza, some will remember this as the old Koho restaurant. Totally redone, the space is airy and contemporary with a big chef's counter in the middle, small bar off to the side and low tops throughout. MENU: A mix of Asian, American and local Hawaiian fare. They also have an exclusive Chef's Counter menu ($140 p/person) which happens every Sunday with two seating times, 5pm and 8pm, which we got to experience. The menu rotates every two months. We were treated the January/February 2023 menu entitled "Pele & Poli'ahu", Hawaiian goddesses of fire & ice, respectively, which was five courses. BEVERAGE: Napili Bae - $10.00 This vodka-based citrus quencher was so refreshing, I had to have three! FOOD: We started off with a refreshing amuse bouche Lava Flow Popsicle, a combination of strawberry, pineapple and coconut flavors reminiscent of a sorbet. First course was Pristine Kusshi Oysters, artfully decorated with spicy sriracha pearls that looked like fish roe and seasoned with mignonette (shallots, pepper and vinegar). My first experience with raw oyster years ago wasn't very pleasant, but when in the hands of a professional chef, made a world of difference. Mildly briny with some heat. Small balls of hush puppies accompanied, great for putting out any fires on your palette from the sriracha. Second course was a moist and delicate Kona Kanpachi with a nice and crispy skin, served over a creamy vichyssoise (pureed leeks, potatoes and onions). I wish I had a bigger piece! Third course brought on French Maui Onion Soup. Filipino-inspired pandesal bread chunks replace traditional croutons. The soup was a tad salty, my only complaint of the experience. The entrée was an Australian Wagyu Ribeye served over sizzling rice. I personally would never order a wagyu steak due to its fat content but it was very good. Some in our party commented the fried rice could've used more seasoning but I thought it was perfect and complimented the savory steak well. And finally dessert which was Spicy Chocolate Lava, an airy cake with coconut ice cream drizzled with a spicy strawberry sauce. Very good. SERVICE: Chef and owner, Jojo, was gracious and professional. He, along with his apprentice, Shawn, did an excellent job at explaining and showcasing the dishes being prepared. Eliza took great care of us with drink service. TIP: The chef's counter experience now is totally personable and focused as the rest of the restaurant is closed for the evening. OVERALL: A diamond in the rough of Maui's northwest coast.
Came in when restaurant was empty, so service was pretty fast. Servers seemed rude/inexperienced, however. Food wise not bad. I found every dish to be slightly too salty, but far from the worst. Garlic shrimp was exactly that- heavy on the garlic, deliciously so. However, it could have done with less butter/oil as it got to be too heavy. Poke was good but had too much soy sauce in it. Generous portion size and fresh fish though. Pork was also generous on portion size but too salty. All dishes came with rice (good) and slaw (delicious and light without being salty). Restaurant was clean and spacious, prices were fair. Go ahead and give it a shot :)
IMHO This review is for the Sunday Fond Chef Counter dinner that we enjoyed in January. This is a Sunday evening private event for up to 14 people, with two service times: 5 p.m. or 8 p.m. Call to book your reservation. I think I booked two months in advance. This is an epic food experience for the foodie lovers. Chef Jojo curates a new 6 course meal every two months for the lucky diners. The cost is $140 per person, and optional wine pairings with each course for an additional $10 per glass. This special dining experience was our choice for our one "big spend" during our Maui vacation. It did not disappoint. I even tried my first-ever oyster slurp! I was very hesitant when I saw it on the pre-fixe menu but decided that I had to at least try it. I am so glad I did! It was amazingly delicious and the oyster itself was very soft and tender to the chew. (When you make your reservation, you are asked if you have any food allergies so that the Chef can accommodate you. Chef Jojo thoughtfully made sure that one couple's special requests melded seamlessly with his menu.) We were slightly underwhelmed by the Wagyu Ribeye, as its seared top crust was too hard to cut into. We had to turn it over in order to slice into it. However, we didn't waste a bite! Get thee to Fond's Chef Counter! You won't regret it!
A dynamic find close to our condo and it was spectacular. The Brussels sprouts appetizer is to die for... it's a must. Then I had the Korean fried chicken, damn delicious! And my wife had the steak. Both plates were full of flavors and out of This world. We took the Basque cheesecake to go and that was amazing. All around 5 stars. Thank you. read more
You'll have to be wheel-barrowed out of of the restaurant after indulging in the fried chicken dinner, served on Wednesdays! Perfectly crispy chicken, scone-like biscuits served with a trio of sauces (try the butter, honey and brown gravy all together, it's a wonderful mix of salty with a hint of sweet). The seasoned bread crumbs on the mac n' cheese was a nice touch. Every dish was delightful, good portions too. The wait staff was on their game, friendly, efficient and never missed a beat. Also, they were kind to let us switch out our Caesar salad for the other green salad option for pregnancy diet restriction needs! Their mai tai could use a dark rum floater, but all-around you couldn't ask for a more perfect experience! read more
This place is located in a strip mall. We had reservations but when we got there it there was only 2 other tables. Pretty empty. The place is cute with the garage door open up front letting the nice breeze in. We were greeted right away and seated to. The people were really nice. One of the other servers was so nice to an elderly couple and took a lot of time explaining their restaurant and the food. We started with the PLT lettuce wraps which were really good. The wife got the burger which had great flavor and she loved the fries. I got the seafood Tsunami which was great. This was a nice little place and we will probably come back again. read more

What can I say but WOW! I am so glad we came here. I was staying at the Westin Nanae & this restaurant was very close by 5min drive. Place is very nice and has these garage doors type windows that open up with lots of ceiling fans, so it was nice and breezy and good air flow if you're worried about covid. It's highly recommended to get reservations on Yelp but I did notice they really try to squeeze in walk ins. Chef Jojo is a very well known chef in the Maui community and was out greeting all customers and even serving out dishes. It's apparent that they were short staff just like all the restaurants due to the pandemic but we still got the best service especially since we got to sit at the counter. We ordered a bunch of stuff. I started with a the special chef appetizer good for only one person, kinda pricey but worth the $24. Chef Jojo even came out and plated it in front of us. It was a taro rice cake with shrimp aioli sauce topped with caviar, oyster , salmon belly & fish tartare. Then we also ordered the PLT wrap & potato wedges as appetizers which were yummy and actually could be a meal. I had the Maui sirloin over fried rice and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. My hubby had the Korean Fried chicken & it was delish without the heat. My aunt had the Garlic shrimp bento & shrimp was cooked perfectly & garlic sauce was so good I even used it to pour over my rice. For desert we tried the Cookie sunday & cheesecake and it did not disappoint! We were stuffed by the end of the night. Our server Eliza was excellent! I watched her bust her butt serving multiple tables & watched Chef Jojo helping his staff out. I hope this place succeeds because I would like to come back on my next vacay here to Maui. We were very FOND of this restaurant lol read more
Are you looking for the BEST KEPT SECRET? Look no further than Fond. The place is amazing and I ran into it by pure coincidence and/or mistake. We were looking for another restaurant and we ended up here. We went in and it was the best mistake ever. Like ever! So much so that we went twice. The food has an amazing presentation and the flavors just work with each other and they are not overwhelming. They are just perfect to the point that you don't need to add salt, pepper or any hot sauce. The steak with rice , broccoli was my favorite! The cheesecake was very well done and with the ice cream it was a home run. The service was great and very attentive as Karen took the time to ensure that we were satisfied and ensured that we were taking care of. They had another you g lady ensuring that out water was filled and the tables cleaned. They are express Aloha every second. The restaurant was clean, very relaxing and warm. If you are looking for what I would say a Michelin restaurant, I would say this would it at an affordable price. Congrats to the chef for such great meals and consistency two days in a row. Mahalo nui loa for such a great time! read more

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and great service at Fond. We had "PLT" Lettuce Wraps for a flavorful starter. We had the Garlic Shrimp Bowl and the Teriyaki Fish Bowl. The bowls were delicious with great shrimp, luscious fish (today's was Mahi Mahi), and a very flavorful slaw. Our waitress was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. It was a delightful visit and I recommend this local eatery. read more

Really good burgers! Nice little restaurant that wasn't very busy when we went on a Thursday evening. Enjoyed the atmosphere a lot when they opened up the door to the outdoor area, brought a lot of light into an otherwise darker space. read more

Looking for amazing food? It's here! Ah, the chicken bites were amazing (chicken skin was super crispy! And the meat was juicy.. mm!) I'm a burger fanatic (especially someone who's from California.. we have tons and tons of spots locally known) but man... this has to be one of the best burgers I've had by far! Lastly the roast pork bento. My bf loved it! The roast pork went very well with the hot rice and scallions. We ate all of this and literally paid only $50! (Not including tip). After some swimming and a short hike.. this was an abundance of joy! Mahalo!! read more

While in Maui our AirBnB was just around the corner the shopping center we found Fond in. We weren't sure what to expect, but we ended up pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed our time there. It was a chill environment, good range in menu options, and the server who took care of us was very attentive. I decided to go all out and had the "Fond Seafood Tsunami"--the "seared catch" was Mahi Mahi. I was very satisfied with my choice. The fish, shrimp, and poke were great and it all had amazing flavor, the egg is like a cherry on top. The rest of my party had a mix of burgers and bento boxes which were all also enjoyed. In addition to our meals we got a side of buttermilk biscuits--baked to perfection. read more

Convenient location with plenty of parking. We needed to grab a few groceries, so this location being in a strip mall was perfect. The burger was excellent as was the service!! I wouldn't recommend the brownie. It was dry and burnt around the edges and bottom. read more
Took the hubs here for a date night dinner and he loved it. The food is really good. Portions are good sized, so dishes are shareable. The spices and flavors are well balanced and everything is fresh and flavorful. Service is outstanding. There are several lovely pieces of art on the walls by local artist Ali Isabelle that are available to purchase. We can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. read more

Had dinner at one of my favorite restaurants on the West side of Maui. Fond never disappoints! The watermelon lemonade was so refreshing with just the right amount of tartness. It came in a cute reusable cup too. We started with the chicken bites and loaded potato wedges. There were 3 dipping sauces for the chicken bites: ranch, bbq, and spicy. All were yummy! Then we ordered the steak with broccoli and garlic rice, chicken caesar salad, PLT lettuce wraps, and korean chicken. All the dishes are tasty and interesting. The service was amazing and the place has an open floor plan with a modern vibe. We will definitely be back! read more

We went to Fond on a Sunday when the chef does a private dinner for only about 14 people at a time. He demonstrated the preparation of each course and gave some very useful cooking tips. Also, with the dinner was included the option to purchase a 4 wine flight. Each wine was paired with the proper course. The dining experience was wonderful, and the other guests were interesting. The seating was conducive to conversation with couples seated on either side of us. The only negative I can find about the experience was that the dinner ended up costing $80 more, before the tip, than we had anticipated. My husband believes that he was quoted about $20 per person less than the cost of the dinners when we got there. We were also led to believe that drinks would be included in that fee. When we arrived, the dinners were $20 more and the wine flight was $40 per person. We opted to share the wine flight. In conclusion, I would highly recommend the experience, but be sure to confirm the pricing before you book your reservation. read more
Just discovered this place while we were Ka'anapali. Ordered online, and picked up for lunch after spending the morning at the beach. They offer 25% discount for lunch! We had the Flip & out burger and fresh catch bento. Loved them both! The Jojo sauce on the burger was interesting, and the fish (salmon) was so fresh and tender. It was easy to order online, and food was ready for pick up in 15 minutes. Friendly and efficient service ! Will definitely come again when we're on this side of the island. We like support local! read more
What a wonderful local owned place to dine! Nothing fancy but the best food and service! We went back on New Year's Eve. Our waitress Elisa was beyond incredible! So nice and so attentive we were never left alone or wanted for anything! Can't say enough about her and to give up her New Year's Eve for us as well! The food is great! Never had a bad meal. We started with the who poke nachos which were generous in size and served with chips on the side as well as a huge portion of chicken bites with bbq sauce and mustard to dip. We both had the specials which were both incredible! My son had the short ribs which were served with mashed potato's and carrots and maui onion rings! I had the scallops which had crispy gnocchi and squash puree. We both left nothing and blocked our plates! The owner and head chef Jojo Vasquez liost everything in the fire and is back so please support this little place and him and his amazing staff! read more

Disappointed by my meal. Ordered what I thought was a juicy tomato salad and got carrots and onion instead. I was sure they gave me the wrong order but they hadn't. For $14, I expected the salad to include what was described and not random veggies not mentioned especially onions. Wasn't even refreshing or nice. read more
