Friendly atmosphere, quick service, delicious food with good-sized portions. I got the chicken katsu plate, the kimchi cucumber side, and the bread pudding. A very large portion of chicken, the kimchi cucumber salad was really flavorful and I ended up pouring the remainder of the kimchi sauce over the rice. I was going to order birthday lunch for a group of us at work (1/7/26) as I really like Faithful Grinds. It also would've been an introductory try for two people. But, the biz didn't answer their phone. All I got was the automated "voicemail not set up" pre-recorded message. A coworker called, same thing. Another coworker chimed in and said to order online but I was apprehensive to do so if they weren't actually open. She then called and actually got through, but got yelled at and scolded, told they're busy and to order online and even hung up on her. Really? I get it that everybody is short staffed, so why not activate your voicemail with a greeting to "order online" or just answer the phone cordially and relay the message? How can you treat customers like this, let alone locals who are your bread & butter? OVERALL: If service isn't good, I can't continue to patronize or recommend a place no matter how good the food is. Ordered bread pudding, smoked meat, and adobo fried rice. This hit the spot and was very close by the hotel we stayed in. The smoked meat was more like charsiu to us but it was still good. It wasn't really what we expected. The adobo fried rice was pretty good also as well as bread pudding. I do miss the cake jars. That was a good dessert but things change so I shouldn't have expected it. Like always they have a subtle but bold display of their faith and that's always refreshing. read more

Found this hidden gem while we were in Kahului. We always crave local food, so we stopped here for lunch. Welcomed with a smile from the nice "auntie" at the counter, (who probably sensed it was our first time there...LOL) she let us take our time to view their menu. Once you decide, just order and pay at the counter (cash or card). Plenty of space and seating inside. Their portions are huge, but most of all, their food is savory delicious! Their kalua pork was so tender and moist, and the chicken Katsu was crispy yet tender inside (the "uncle" in the back knows what he's doing y'all!). Yelp strikes again. We struck out at a few stops and took a chance on this local establishment: Faithful Grind. We are glad we did. Nothing fancy here just a local Maui spot. There are a few tables but this place does mad take out when busy. All I can say is the Loco Moco gravy was crazy good. One of the best I've had on island or off. The beef flavor was very intense in a good way. I've had so many bland and thin sauces. This one was rich and super good. I had it on katsu which was a winng combination. I imagine it would taste good with beef patty or a leather shoe. Just drench and go to town. Also wanted to note that the mac salad was bomb. One of the best I've had. Oh no! I do t know what happened! I thought I posted my review here, but I guess I just posted it on Facebook to all my friends the day of! I'm so sorry Fainthful Grinds!! My husband and I took our retired pastors to Maui to renew our 40th anniversary and their 50th wedding anniversary. When we landed, I found this place on yelp. So we had breakfast here. Wow! So good. The food, the service. Not a large place, but at the time it wasn't busy and we got to sit down. After touring the big island the week before, then here on Maui we all decided that faithful grinds was our favorite place to dine. Everything we ordered on the menu was delicious and made with love. So on the way back home to fly out we all decided we need to go back. Again so good not busy, until later the line was out the door. So glad we got to eat before our flight. They all feel like family to me. I even posted a photo of the two gals working the front with me. It's like we could be cousins. The place is truly a small hole in the wall with the feel of the islands. I would totally come back every time I fly down. I recently noticed that people have been complaining due to seating. Why complain? So glad they are blessed and doing so well that they are so busy. Unfortunately for us once I post this review, they'll most likely get even more people lining out the door. It's a little loud in here with no A/C. This place got really busy while we were there and wait times got up to 30mins so I'd say service is a little slow. The plates we ordered were ok. My daughter seemed to like the tuna melt and fries. The servings were rather large so that's a plus. The woman running the show could come across a little offensive to some, especially tourist but being a local you can see past that and know she's actually really nice. Great food doesn't always have to mean expensive food, even in Maui. One of my favorite meals was at Faithful Grinds for some authentic Hawaiian food made with love. Hawaiian food is more than just plate lunches of teriyaki meats that you get back in the Mainland. The most popular dish in Hawai'i that most are already familiar with is Loco Moco that is reportedly created in Hilo. The three pattie, two egg one I had here was so ono, I went back two days later for the fried rice version of the moco and another Hawaiian plate. I do have to say I prefer the moco over white rice vs. the fried rice. Traditional Hawaiian plate usually consists of lau lau, kalua pork, Mac salad, rice, lomi lomi salmon, and poi with only the poi missing in this one. My local half Hawaiian friend I bought an extra one for his birthday said he hadn't had lau lau this good in a long time. Now that's a testament. Although squid luau is sometimes a special at Faithful Grinds, it wasn't the two days I was there. Hopefully I will catch it when I'm back later on this year. read more

My daughter sent me a TikTok when I was in Maui & told me I have to try Faithful Grinds. The food looked good so of course I had to go! Upon entering I couldn't help but notice all the construction guys waiting for their plates... Maaan you already know if the construction guys are here it's going to be fire! I ordered a coconut shrimp and some loaded fries. It was delicious! Flavor packed and at a good price point. I couldn't even eat it all. I wish I was more hungry or had someone to go with so we could order more and share. I also got to talk to the owner who was so sweet. It felt like family. I felt very welcomed and I could tell the customers their felt the same way. The owner seemed to be on first name basis with all of them! It's been awhile since I've ordered from here but we always used to grab food from their food truck that didn't disappoint. We've also ordered half pans of food for potlucks and everyone always raves about their food. I've never eaten inside this location but it's pretty hot. The reviews don't lie when they say it's busy so try your best to call ahead for takeout and if they don't answer just keep calling. Locals know where to go for good food that they're willing to wait. My most recent encounter with the Aunty she was kinda rude but at least the food was delicious. My top two choices is the hamburger steak plate and the Hawaiian plate. Not many places can you find a Hawaiian plate for less than $25 with both lau lau and kalua pig. I'm so glad my husband found this humble hole-in-the-wall spot with some real local Hawaiian grinds. Here's what we got: 1. Hawaiian Plate - Two scoops of rice, mac salad, kalua pig, pork lau lau, and lomi salmon. Everything was on point. The pork lau lau was made fresh, and when I added some chillipeppahwatah, it was even better. The mac salad really hit the spot. 2. Krazy Fries - These were crazy good. Fries with pulled pork, covered in cheese, and topped with ono sauce! 3. Char Siu Smoked Meat - One of their specials for today. Broke da mouth! The sauce was on the sweeter side, but it was delicious. 4. Bread Pudding - We also got their famous bread pudding. Just wow! I've never had bread pudding like this. It's soft, custardy, light, and moist! 5. Strawberry Matcha Maui Cake Jar - Loved it! Moist, light, fluffy, and the strawberry and matcha blend together perfectly. I had a loco moco here and it was amazing. I had 3 loco moco's from 3 different places (in Maui and Oahu) and this one was the best. There's no AC here so it got a bit warm but they have a fan going. Seeing that there were locals eating here and getting take out assured me that this place was legit. I would come back here again on my next Maui trip. read more

It was our last day on the island, and deprived of good Mac salad and plate lunches on the trip, Faithful Grinds came up on Yelp and was open on a Sunday and fit the bill. Looking at the menu, it was an easy choice for me, the fried rice loco moco with eggs over easy. The gravy was thick, the burger patties were tasty, it satisfied my cravings and more. The Mac salad was tasty, I think it needed a tad bit more salt. The fried rice had tiny bits of spam in it which was good. I probs would just get white rice next time bc I think it pairs better with the gravy. Less is more sometimes. My gf got the chicken cutlet plate, naturally I had a few bites and my takeaway was that I wish it was crispier. Also, it tasted very much like the fry oil, which threw off the flavor for me. It made me glad I went with the loco moco. The price, value, and quality tasting plate lunches can be found here. The portion sizes are crazy big, and easily enough for 2-3 meals. When it came to service the people were so sweet and kind. After getting mid service out our resort, it was a breath of fresh air to be in the presence of such amazing people. We searched Yelp for somewhere highly rated, yet not crowded. This place met that criteria, though at the time I didn't notice that less than 100 persons reviewed this place. They unabashedly advertise as a spiritual place, but they don't proselytize nor do they force any religion on anyone. It was just a really nice, down-home local place with wonderful front staff. I knew it would be great when the kitchen staff was constantly ribbing each other and laughing...it's obvious they enjoy making great local food. You can sit down in their spacious dining area, but everything is packed for take-away. Even your flatware is plastic-disposable. We sat and waited for our food, which came in a decent time...but was worth the wait! I got the kalua pork loco moco and it was awesome! There was a bed of pork with two over-easy eggs cooked to perfection. I gently sliced into the eggs and watched the yolks magically ooze into the gravy and rice. The gravy was a perfect match to everything. The rice was nicely cooked and the mac salad was cold to offset the hot meal. My daughter had the laulau plate...so different from the store-bought laulau. This one seemed made on-site, steamed perfectly with flavorful luau leaves, moist and delicious pork inside. Too bad I only had one bite because she scarfed the rest of it. The drink selection is really limited, they could reap dividends by installing a drink fountain instead of the small selection of soft drinks and bottled water. However, the food was way too good! A most awesome find in Kahului! On a recent visit to Maui, I was looking for a last plate lunch fix before boarding my plane back to the Mainland. Knowing that old standbys near the airport such as Poi by 'da Pound and 'Da Kitchen are long gone from Kahului, I was preparing myself for a meal at Zippy's. Don't get me wrong, I love Zippy's as much as the next guy but when you are looking for a last taste of the Islands, it's a little like eating instant noodles in your dorm room when you could be eating Ramen at a counter shop in Japan. It just isn't the same. And so it is with great plate lunch in my book. Ever hopeful, I did a quick search on Yelp and was floored that it came through and listed Faithful Grinds about 5 min from the OGG airport! Having never heard of it, I was skeptical. I was even more skeptical when I pulled up and the parking lot was pretty dark and so was the restaurant. Decided to try to do a stealth reconnaissance of the place by opening the front door and doing a quick peek. I figured that if it looked like a Den of Thieves I could just quickly shut the door and be on my way and no one would be the wiser. Unfortunately the place inside is so small and quiet that as soon as I opened the door, it was like all action inside stopped. Everyone looked up to see who was opening the door. I quickly realized that backing out undetected was not an option so I just went with it and stepped in. I was met with a clean, simple little dine in area with just a few tables and a counter to order at. It looked like only locals eating in the place which was reassuring and then I saw the handwritten whiteboard menu and knew that all would be right in the world. Between the whiteboard specials and the regular menu, they had all the classics. Between the 4 of us in my family, we had one helluva kau-kau! Loco Moco, a Lau Lau plate, Chicken Long Rice and Saimin. The food was fast, fresh and good! Everything is served in disposable containers, the portions were respectable in size and the pricing was on par with what you would expect. Absolutely no complaints about the food and it really hit the spot. What I really loved about the place was the simple, old-school feel of the dining area and the honest friendliness of the folks running the place. There are signs around the joint celebrating their faith which clearly had something to do with the name of the place. The whole crew comes across as honest, hard-working, and eager to serve those that they come into contact with. Since going to Maui is all about meeting my priorities (meaning great local grinds!), I'm happy to report that there is now a really local homestyle spot in operation near OGG. I now have a first stop spot upon landing and a last stop spot before takeoff haha! Everyone give this place a try and support this faith-based fix to feed your local need! read more

I can't say enough great things about this place! I recently visited Maui for the first time, and we'd stopped at a nearby Foodland to pick up some groceries after getting off the plane. Closest food nearby with a good Yelp rating was Faithful Grinds, so we decided to check it out. It was an odd time of day, so the 2 of us split a Katsu Moco. We both left full. It was SO MUCH chicken. Better than any Hawaiian food I'd had on my trip to Honolulu. I loved it. The place is a cozy place with a for-the-locals feel. Nothing fancy, but that's part of the charm. Both of the women working were friendly, especially the older woman running the register. Left happy. Then... it turned out we needed a bite the day we flew out, so it worked out great that we dropped back in. The woman from the register recognized us from our visit days earlier and was super sweet and friendly. Tried the Kalua Cabbage. It was good, but... I'm still dreaming of that Katsu Moco...
