We came here on a weekend afternoon and there was one other table. I think that their reservation sign in the front throws people off, since it says you need a reservation when in fact they are pretty empty. Not sure why that's the case, but it is. Anyways, we ordered the crispy chicken bento box, the garlic shrimp bento box, and the loaded potatoes. We found each of these dishes to be pretty bland. The potatoes did not have much flavor and neither were they crisp like we would have expected them to be. For the crispy chicken, the chicken was indeed crispy, but it was also drenched in vinegar at the bottom that it gave it this sour flavor that I would not have expected. The shrimp was similar in the sense that you could taste only an overpowering vinegar taste at the bottom, while the rest of the sauces on it was bland. The salad that came with it was similar, with an overpowering vinegar dressing that wasn't great. The rice was a little hard. We might just be disappointed with the bento boxes and there might be better dishes, but we were just not very happy with the bento boxes in general and wished that they weren't so lacking. If you are visiting this restaurant, we would recommend not getting the bento boxes. read more

Visiting Maui from the Bay Area and we came here for dinner. I had the Korean fried chicken dish and it was delicious. The umami egg gave it that extra flavor and uniqueness to the dish. The service was friendly and attentive to our dining needs. The ambiance of the place of casual but classy at the same time. We have been eating at FOND when we have visited Maui since they opened. The owner/chef prepares delicious food at FOND. We had been eating there Wednesday nights for their chicken bucket family style. Unfortunately, they had to discontinue this very popular special because of increased costs from the supplier. But they still have their crispy chicken but in bite size pieces. The fish plates were excellent as well. I highly recommend FOND for a wonderful meal. read more

I had the mahi mahi bento and was satiated with the small piece of fish with rice and salad. I would have preferred to pay the full price for the full piece of fish but no matter, it was very good! We placed 4 orders and it took about 30-40 minutes for everything to be ready so a little bit of a wait when you're hungry for lunch. It was our first experience here at FOND. We elected to eat here versus the other places in Napili shopping center, because it looked nice, and we could sit inside and get full service. It was the right choice. Timing was between lunch and dinner rushes, so we had the waitress attend to us immediately, and our order of hamburgers came out super fast. The hamburgers were great, and the fries as well. I think the lunchtime 25% discount was a big attraction to us, and it certainly paid off. The atmosphere was relaxing, with lots of air space and the tables were spread apart nicely. I can see this would be a popular place when things are back to normal. Our favorites: Appetizers: Adobo Brussels Sprouts - yummy Ahi poke nachos and fries with gravy Main Dish: Pork cassoulet (a chef that can make lentil, Brussels sprouts and pork - taste out of this world is definitely talented). It did not mention any heat at all. We typically shy from too spicy food so he could not even eat more than a few bites. The description should have listed this as being hot. When they saw he didn't eat it, they took if off the bill which was the right thing to do and did offer to make him something else, which was also nice. This place is super underrated as there wasn't many people there when we went for lunch. The inside was large and spacious with a center counter where you could interact with the chef. The outside patio had seating too. The service was great and the food came fast. We had the bento boxes which came with the protein of choice, Asian slaw, rice and umami egg. I forgot to ask about what kind of fish I was getting for the seared catch but it was awesome. It looked dry from the outside but it wasn't. Somehow the chef was able to keep the fish moist and tasty. And that umami egg was also so delicious, I should have asked for another side order of it. We did the Chef's Table experience. Wow! Chef Jojo prepared part of each dish right in front of us. He explained all the ingredients and the cooking process for each dish. He even made modifications for my mother's and my food allergies. It was an absolutely lovely and wonderfully delicious experience. Intense and varied flavors that melded together in a dance, perfectly selected wines, and gorgeous presentation. It was everything I had hoped for. Who cannot help but love a guy who prepares a dish using a repurposed record turntable? Who cannot help but love a guy who has nasturtiums tattooed on his arm? 11/10. Very much like. FOND feels exactly as it's meant to be when you walk in - a neighborhood place for friends and family, great atmosphere and excellent food. With bright, funky artwork and garage door style windows, FOND could easily be in any trendy urban neighborhood. My husband and I each had the seafood tsunami, which featured a perfectly cooked mahi mahi as the fresh catch, along with three also perfectly cooked shrimp and a nice portion of ahi tuna poke, all served on a bed of white rice with furikake seasoning and fresh pickles. Our almost three year old happily ate some of the Korean Fried Chicken bites, which Mom and Dad also enjoyed - they were super crispy and (yet again) perfectly cooked. My MIL had a burger which she said was excellent. Service was great, and the server who helped us was super friendly to my toddler daughter. Some reviewers complained that the menu has changed, and that may be so, but I like it when restaurant changes the menu from time to time. Stopped here with my family on a whim and we were all incredibly happy with our meal and service. The atmosphere was super cool, very modern. I loved the open concept with the big garage door. I can't remember everyone's orders but I tried their Korean fried chicken which comes with potato salad and an egg. The potato salad was like nothing I've tried before. The consistency and appearance was almost hummus-like but it was delicious (as was the chicken). Oh man, I was disappointed. This place had great reviews and I made sure to get a reservation. When you walk in they have their James Beard award nominee sign up, woohoo! But as soon as we sat down I knew it was headed for trouble. The menu had completely changed and everything that got good reviews on yelp was now missing. They brought table water that tasted awful, heavy chlorine flavor. I was worried because they were likely cooking with the same quality water and I couldn't even sip this. Some of the food ended up being ok, nothing I would necessary write a yelp review over. But the seafood extravaganza was flat out terrible. The cooked fish tasted so bad my husband and I couldn't even eat the rice it had touched. The poke portion was ok, but it was weird to have cold poke on hot rice, with the really bad fish all in the same bowl. I hate to leave this review because I'm hoping they are going to be able to sort this, but I wouldn't want anyone to have the same expectations and experience we had. read more

Doing this review Keith Lee style Service 10/10. The server was nice and informed us about the menu and gave us great recommendations. The server was also especially nice to my son which I appreciated Drinks 9.5/10 - we only got non alcoholic drinks but the POG juice was excellent. It was fresh and tasted great Appetizers 9.9/10 - we ordered the Brussels Sprouts and Chicken appetizers. The Brussel Sprouts came out kind of like a shared salad. These were the best tasting Brussels Sprouts that I've ever eaten. So tasty and this will be the new standard. The chicken bites were like a fancy chicken nuggets and were really tasty. It was accompanied by ranch and bbq sauce which both were excellent Entree - 9/10 we ordered the KFC, Hamburger and garlic shrimp bento. My son devoured his hamburger and fries. He is a super picky eater so I tried some and I understood why he was eating his food like Joey chestnut. The burger had an amazing taste and was juicy. The bread was buttery and the fries were cooked to perfection. The KFC had large pieces and the flavor was good. The garlic shrimp was also good but it was more like a scampi. Dessert - we has the basque cheesecake. This thing was amazing. The only time I've had this type of cheesecake is from that chain store at the mall and it's terrible. The one they have here is tasty and the texture is amazing. For sure a 9/10 read more

First off. This is NOT in Lahaina! It's in Napili. In the Napili center mall actually. So why do they call it Lahaina? Kinda misleadinga and not coola. Is this to get more tourists to go there thinking it's close? Most tourists stay in Kannapali so its really no further than Lahaina is. Baffling. So still not that far to drive except I did leave Kanappali and turned right to go to Lahaina and was mostly there when I plugged in my phone on google maps that showed I indeed went the wrong way. Ugh. So lesson learned. google maps before you start! Now we went on Wednesday and got the food to go and got the family fried chicken meal. Ceasar salad was lame. And not much of it for 4 people. Mac and cheese was not real creamy but still good with a lot of crumbly topping. Fried Chicken was tender and juicy but did not have much of a batter at all. Still was tasty, but I like a nicely battered chicken. What was odd is that there were NO breasts in a 12 piece bucket. Lots of legs and thighs. Not cool. Gotta have at least two breasts in a 12 piece bucket. Should have ordered individual items. the pork lettuce cups were really good. The steak was also done well. Other items sounded much better than the fried chicken and that would include the fried chicken nuggets which while maybe not white meat may be more satisfying than the full pieces of chicken. Not sure how I feel about Fond. It's out of the touristy area, which was nice. We had a party of 6, with reservations at 7pm. I felt they were unorganized and not prepared to serve us that night. They sat our group and then we just sat there for like 30 mins. No drinks offered. Nothing. I think there was some confusion about who was going to wait on us or something. Finally, a sweet lady came over and took our order. The food was good. It is similar to a restaurant that we have in the SF Bay Area, but the vibe in the restaurant was down and depressing. No one smiled or seemed happy. Maybe it was an off night. We were not impressed at all. With so many great restaurants in the area, I think we will skip Fond when we visit next time. read more

Tried this place out for the first time on Saturday night! Very trendy! My friends loved the plant wall! The service was great and the food even better! We started with adobo brussel sprouts and gravy fries. Both had so much flavor and crisp!! It's a must try!! Next, we had Caesar salad which was very tasty with the crispy onions on top. The Paniolo burger was finished within 5 mins. My friend and I had the Seafood Tsunami and it was a combination of every seafood you could want.
