I was not expecting to have such a spectacular experience at such an unassuming spot, but our entire dinner experience was incredible. Located on a scenic little road, you'll find Fogama tucked away between other shops and restaurants. When you walk in the restaurant looks quite small, but they have another seating and bar area upstairs to accommodate more guests. I visited with a large group for a work dinner (we had reservations) and we were immediately seated immediately. The waitresses were attentive throughout our time here. One of the main things that immediately impressed me was the wine list. I was excited to see Sancerre on the expansive list and immediately ordered. The food itself was INCREDIBLE. We ordered a mix of hot and cold appetizers, classic rolls, and specialty roles. There is truly something on their menu for everyone, and we all raved about the freshness and quality of all of the dishes. Just a great experience overall. Very nice family vibe. They love engaging the kids and always remember us each time we come. At the same time the place would work well for a date night as well. The sushi is quite good, never a question on quality or flavor. The price point is perhaps a little higher than I'd like to spend on a neighborhood sushi spot, so we go on a more of an occasional basis. The standard tuna, salmon, yellow tail rolls are great. Solid sushi experience. I'd be happy to travel to this spot again. We loved all our speciality rolls. They were innovative, fresh, and not doused in sauce, which can sometimes be the case at other establishments with such a robust speciality roll list. We sat upstairs, which is the main dining area. The Chichen was well seasoned and had a great combination of flavors. It is a nice upscale but casual restaurant in the Rye area. I like the ambiance and the service. The rye roll is my personal favorite, it is mild and has great crunch from the cucumber and crispy salmon, and a nice smoothness from the avocado. Porks buns are my fav here and the house pork dumpling are phenomenal. If you're not a regular sake drinker I recommend doing a sampler to get a nice taster of a few. My wife and I along with our son, daughter-in-law and her sister came to Fogama for dinner the evening of February 9; my wife and I were in Rye from Oregon for a nearby dog show while our son, daughter-in-law and her sister came up from NYC where they live. Merely by happenstance, we choose Fogama for our Saturday evening meal and I can say without hesitation that we were all happy we had the luck to find and enjoy this place. Our collective experiences with the food we had, our sense of Fogama's ambience and our experiences with the attentive waitstaff prove Fogama is a wonderful (but increasingly rare) example of the look, feel and taste of local, fresh ingredients prepared with care and joy and then presented to the guest with simplicity, courtesy and attention. We will be returning to Fogama once back in Rye next year! Others living closer need not and should not wait that long. read more

Needed a quick sushi dinner and our two favorites are closed on Mondays, so based on Yelp reviews, gave Fogama a try. It was clean, the fish was fresh, and the service was fine, but sadly, this is just another Chinese sushi bar with cheap soggy nori and fish with absolutely no flavor. Perhaps the only other distinction was the exorbitant prices! 8 pieces of sushi plus a tuna roll for $27 with no soup; no salad; and don't forget, no flavor! I made the reservation about 3 weeks in advance. went on valentines night with my husband and 2 kids. they escorted us to this tiny table on the 1st floor in the corner right next to the downstairs sushi bar. my husbands chair was literally up against the sushi bar right next to 2 gentlemen. I couldnt even pull my chair out. I told them this was ridiculous and asked if they were serious- if there was any other table available? and they said no. So we continued our night... we ordered and the sushi was not great. we were all kind of disappointed- not wow'ed at all. the Nigiri were tiny and the rolls werent great. I dont know what the hype is with this place but I was really excited to come here (we live 10 minutes away) and was disappointed by the whole experience. if you want an eh place for suhi in Rye, then this is your place. but its not 'nice' and doesnt feel special at all. read more
