Wow, this was a great and quick lunch. The portions are large and varied and most importantly delicious. I definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely try something else there.

Sushi Niji is conveniently located at the edge of town. Nice quiet spot to meet with a friend for lunch or dinner. I usually get the Chef's Special Rolls and they have yet to disappoint! The service is very attentive and takeout or a dine-in meal takes around the same short time to be prepared.

As many of you know I am cultured. I'm seasoned. In age and in ethnicity. Lightly seasoned? Sure…read more But seasoning nonetheless? Depends who you ask. Oh Desdemona, how unlucky you were. Oh Yelp, how lucky I am. How lucky I always am. How lucky I was to stumble upon Hawaii Japanese Cuisine on the ever industrious Warburton Ave. Saturday Farmers Market. Meredith's Bakery. Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Bread. If you know you know. Anyways. Out in Waikiki I learned to appreciate Poke. I once appreciated Pokemon. What's Politoed up to these days. Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly depending on your grasp of history, Poke is actually a Hawaiian dish. Japanese inspired, of course, but that's why the name of this spot is quite unique (although not catchy). Catch of the day. Rack of the day. So how'd I get here? You ask? ASK ME. Fine! I'll answer. Calm down, needy much? I'm an active guy. I participate in activities. Typically solo, I'm riding solo I'm riding solo solooooo. Man, just imagine walking down the city streets with a Walkman in blasting Les Miz. The dream. Anyways. I just got back from the island life and I was craving some fresh fish, at a sizable size with some balance of fruit, veggies, sauce and quantity for a beautiful price. And I just so happened to be running myself into the ground at the track in Irvington. Or was it that low-lying track in Hastings. The bees. The bumblebees. Maybe the hornets. It was Irvington. The bulldogs. Grrrrrr. I just ran myself into the ground. Sprints for about an hour. Bad hammy. Few months later tore the calf while calfmaxxing. Probably related. First muscle injury in a spinning dixie, gotta have muscles to injure them? Not really but that's what I'll tell myself. So I rip the farmers market. Then I rip the soosh spot, ordered online. Walked in, handsomely. Very friendly and respectful and nice staff and have been everytime I've gone since. The weight of the food in hand was ridonk so I was optimistic. I also got a few desserts down the road. Some hardbody that was completely eyeing down my grass-fed grass-finished hog at the track was somehow now across the street drinking a protein smoothie. My aura stinks of grandeur, but I avoid it. I'm taken lady. Did she follow me? Gross. What a joke. Really put things into perspective. I'm a fat slob, a professional self sabotager. But I work hard for this fat and that's what makes me a special boy. Hawaii Japanese Cuisine has the best poke in the area. They never let you down. I never let you down. Benvolio. As your voice of reason, I reason you to give it a go. A humble hero in Hastings.

I've driven by many times and never even knew they existed! I opted for the build your own bowl and what an experience. There are soooo many options for fixins and for the bowl itself. You can get 2 proteins or 3. For my bowl this time I got the 2 proteins with half brown rice half green salad with kani of course. For fixins I added cucumbers, edamame, masago, radishes, seaweed salad, sesame seeds, crispy onions, scallions, ginger and for 1$ extra avocado. I added classic shoyu which is basically just soy sauce. I wish they gave a better description for their sauces. My partner ordered the 2 protein bowl with brown rice, grilled chicken, shrimp, sweet corn and added eel sauce. Everything was so delicious and fresh. Vegetables had a nice crunch which lets me know just how fresh. Was a little disappointed in the amount of kani I got but was delicious nonetheless. Note the kani is shredded very thinly. For 16$ this bowl is a perfect little lunch.

The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made for a pleasant experience. Parking was convenient, with both street parking and municipal paid lots nearby. As for the food, I thought the sushi was okay. The salmon, scallop and tuna Nigiri were fresh and tasty . They were definitely one bites. The inari was pleasantly sweet, but the rice wasn't packed tightly enough into the fried tofu pocket. The loose, unfilled end made the texture a little off and less enjoyable. The futomaki didn't include the tobiko listed on the menu, which is a typical ingredient in this roll. It also lacked much flavor, so I probably wouldn't order it again. The Unagi was very good. My daughter said I don't eat eel. We also ordered the seafood tempura, which included shrimp, lobster, scallops, and vegetables. The seafood had a light, crisp tempura batter that I enjoyed. The vegetables were less impressive, as the batter was thicker and lacked the delicate, airy texture and crispness in a tempura that which they achieved with the seafood. My daughter ordered the pork katsu curry. The pork was fried nicely and came in a generous portion. The Japanese curry sauce was lighter than what we've had at other restaurants, which she actually preferred. Both entrées were served with miso soup and salad and were good. Most Japanese restaurants you get either or so kudos for giving both. They don't have a full-service bar, but they do offer beer, wine, and sake. Overall, the service and atmosphere were enjoyable, overall I found some bites better than others. The meal was really better than a three but not quite a four too bad you can't give half cause it's definitely a solid 3.5

That said, if you're craving raw fish it's convenient for a Piermont resident, affordable, easy to get a table, and takeout is always an option. A lot of the menu leans toward rolls drenched in heavy sauces which makes it hard to tell just how fresh the fish really is... or isn't. But if you order a sushi entrée, it does come with soup and salad. They also serve Nigori sake, not always a given at more middle-of-the-road sushi spots, so that's a definite plus if you like the milky stuff like I do. It's easy, it's quiet, and they'll occasionally throw in a few extra pieces, which is always appreciated. Being right off 9W makes parking simple, proving that in Piermont easy parking does still exist, even if it's not where you expect it.

The bento box lacked variety, but was very generous with the portions. The chicken was decent, but was missing seasoning. I recommend seasoning it yourself. There also wasn't any soy sauce. The california roll, shumai, and rice were average. The vegetable udon lacked a variety of vegetables. It had onion, broccoli, a few pieces of carrot, and cabbage. The broth was very salty and had a lot of soy sauce in it. I couldn't even finish it due to the overpowering taste of soy sauce. It made me gag. A few hours after eating the udon, I felt very nauseous and my stomach was hurting a lot. The miso soup is an acquired taste and very salty as well. The salad had vegetables that were mentioned as an allergy so I couldn't eat that. The bento box was worth the price, but the udon was not. I was sadly disappointed with it. They are very busy so I do not suggest coming here if you prefer quality over quantity.

Cream cheese on top of sushi? If one sees that on your sushi menu, turn around quickly and dart out the door - it's just a camouflage of the not so recently caught fish.
