We've been here twice and each time has been a really pleasant experience. It's a quiet and calm spot--never too crowded, which we actually like. But we did notice more people order for pick up or to-go. The service is moderate, not overly attentive. The chicken teriyaki bento boxes are SO good--flavorful, well-portioned, and always satisfying. My son is obsessed with their fried rice, and my husband enjoys the sushi. Everything has been fresh and consistently good. They always bring out complimentary watermelon slices at the end, which is such a sweet and refreshing touch. I ordered a chicken katsu dinner bento box and vegetable udon. The total was $40 for those two items. The bento box came with a side of miso soup and a side of salad. The bento box lacked variety, but was very generous with the portions. The chicken was decent, but was missing seasoning. I recommend seasoning it yourself. There also wasn't any soy sauce. The california roll, shumai, and rice were average. The vegetable udon lacked a variety of vegetables. It had onion, broccoli, a few pieces of carrot, and cabbage. The broth was very salty and had a lot of soy sauce in it. I couldn't even finish it due to the overpowering taste of soy sauce. It made me gag. A few hours after eating the udon, I felt very nauseous and my stomach was hurting a lot. The miso soup is an acquired taste and very salty as well. The salad had vegetables that were mentioned as an allergy so I couldn't eat that. The bento box was worth the price, but the udon was not. I was sadly disappointed with it. They are very busy so I do not suggest coming here if you prefer quality over quantity. read more

The sushi is average to slightly above. The problem with Kiku is that they thrive on their takeout. If you go there, as friendly as the are, it will be slower than you'd like because they're understaffed and focusing on the phone calls coming in. Got lucky and stumbled on this spot for a quick, fresh, delicious dinner. Ordered the tri-color don: four pieces of tuna sashimi, three pieces of yellowtail sashimi and three pieces of salmon sashimi (with sushi rice). Added on an order of ikura sushi (2 pieces) and salmon sushi (2 pieces). Salad came with the meal and I loved the ginger dressing. Fish was just the right temperature, texture and flavor. Have been trying different sushi/hibachi places in the area, and with the sparse delivery options, Kiku was next on my list. Prices were on with other places. Combo platters, like most places nearby, are the best value and can give you 2 meals worth of food. Stuck with that as having the sushi only the first time getting from a new place is a bit bold for my tastes. Sushi was very well done. Spicy tuna role fluorescent red but clearly fresh. Not on the level of MyTokyo, however far better than other options (ie: Nikko). Salad dressing was among the best I've had of this type; actual lettuce was just ok but that's par for the course. Teriyaki was decent but unremarkable, while the shrimp tempura was very meh (flavorless). The miso soup was ho hum. You get a decent deal with combo platters like this, however the spotty quality is what you sometimes see. Would say the sushi is the clear standout in this case, with other places being better for combo platters. Given that I love sushi but my wife doesn't, and that MyTokyo has limited non-sushi options, I will likely frequency Kiku so we can have the best of both worlds (she isn't as critical as me). read more

Easily missed but hardly forgotten. Intimate setting that serves food fresh and slow. At one point they had a Thai menu and upon request the chef will surprise you with a Thai version of spicy soup. I haven't been to Haru Hana in a couple of years and I remember it being better that it was, but I have had my fair share of sushi places since them so the quality I look for may be different now. But overall, it's okay. I like the ambiance with the lounge-looking booths and black tables, it has a trendy, sexy feel to it. I'm sure more so at night due to the large windows encapsulating the restaurant. The service is okay. Not very fast. I waited 5 minutes before I even got a menu but it's one person running around during lunch time to take orders and to ring out take out. I ordered a Salmon Teriyaki bento box lunch special. It came with a soup or salad, I chose the salad. It was mostly iceberg lettuce but the ginger sauce is always a hit. The bento box came with salmon marinated in teriyaki sauce over a bed of onions, 3 dumplings, 4 pieces of a California roll and white rice. Lunch was cheap and filling. However, the food here was surprisingly good. The sushi tasted fresher than what I very much expected. Good food at decent prices. I like their creativity. The place is kind of smell but has decent tables. The wooden disposable chopsticks are pretty ghetto. My pair had lots of splinters and it was cut weird. I had complimentary green tea, new york hand roll, and a yellowtail crunch roll. I loved how they decorated the yellowtail crunch roll; it looked very artsy. Nice hidden gem. read more

I went on a quiet day to meet someone for lunch. Never been here. There are numerous very average faux sushi places in Westchester. While they gave me a menu right away, they did not ask if I wanted anything to drink even after being there for ten minutes. Onto the food. Miso soup was tepid and tofu was not fresh. Tasted sour. The singapore noodles had no flavor. Most Singapore noodles have curry or turmuric powder all over to give the noodles a bright yellow appearance. This one was plain white noodles. Sushi rolls were meh. Rice was spongey and very moist. Advice: Be more friendly. Keep the soup hot by turning up the fire. Add more flavor to the entrees. read more

Such a good selection of special rolls. My favorite is this one with mango and yellowtail and other things... It might be called fancy roll, not sure. The inclusion of mango is wickedly delicious. I've tried their beef teriyaki, and although I usually only go to this place for rolls, the teriyaki sauce was tasty. And it had these great caramelized onions. Good stuff. Shumai was overpriced for what it is (six little ones, probably microwaved from freezer packages). One thing that's annoying is the fact that the service can be pretty slow. There are only two waitresses usually, and while both are nice and courteous, there have been times when I've been waiting waiting waiting for water. Whenever I go with my younger siblings, they give us a handful of assorted mochi ice creams for free with the check, which is super, of course. read more

One of the worst sushi/Japanese restaurant experiences. Don't come here!! Price is so not worth the experience and the value. Service: extremely inattentive. I was waiting for more than 20 mins after being seated and no one had come to bring even a glass of water. Everything needed to be requested by us the diners subsequently - additional refill, food order, check. The waitress not only appeared to be distracted and unfocused, but she also messed up one of our orders. After the dinner, our party literally waited at the table for over 15 minutes and no one came to take away the dirty dishes or brought the check till we waved the same waitress down. Now in terms of food, my sashimi were literally chunks of raw fish that were so big they were difficult to eat (What happened to sashimi slices??) . My friend's chicken teriyaki resembled reheated frozen TV dinner from a warehouse store. The chicken did not look marinated at all and sauce was just dripped over it. Also to note, the toilet didn't flash and there was no paper towel to dry the hands. The only decent thing that deserved a star was their ability to split the check. As the icing on the cake, I also got sick from food poisoning a few hours later. Diners, you really need to explore a bit more for other options if you want to land yourself here read more

Great, simple sushi bar, with some nice Japanese soup selection. We have visited this place over 20 times and we are always satisfied with our meal and the service. The fresh is fresh, though not always the most innovative. A good solid sushi option in Westchester and more reasonably priced that my favorite Westchester Sushi joint, Sushi Mike's. Over the last year they have changed sushi chefs- I find the new chef more innovative, this his cuts have not been as consistent. For example, I have noted that the tuna was cut incorrectly (with the grain!?!) or perhaps it was not the proper grad. Regardless, his presentation is beautiful. Had a spider roll recently, that was not fresh tasty- perhaps the oil the crab was fried in was old? There has also been a change in hostess- we used to be greeted by name by Ping. She remembered our preferences and knew us when we called in for take out or to make reservations. We miss Ping! Lastly, the ambiance in this place is simply, modern, with clean lines. This place is cool. The atmosphere is great, the service wonderful, and the food delightful. Before changing chefs the sushi was top notch. Probably the best in the lower hudson valley. Just had dinner there tonight. I had the poki bowl which was so delicious. The chef was eyeing me from afar and I had no idea why. After I got my meal, then I realized why! He gave me so much fish. This is Irvington's local sushi place that was forced recently to change its name (by some city based restaurant) from Haru Hana to Kiku. We eat there at least twice a month. My youngest child's first restaurant meal was here! I have a soft spot for the owners who work there (and their school-aged sons help out) who always great us and ask about our family. You get to know the menu after time and will learn what works and what doesn't. The updated menu is very good. Sushi has improved quite a lot over the years. It's reliable and local. Lunch specials are an excellent value. The most crowded times are dinner after 630 and before 8-- and during those times takeout can be delayed. But if you order or visit at a slow time you can pick up your food in less than 20 minutes and finish your meal there in about 45. Otherwise leave extra time especially if you are trying to make a curtain time at Irvington Town Hall Theatre. Also very crowded on early release days from the public schools as all the kids come to get the lunch special! But if you are local you will know how to schedule your visits. read more

I had tried Kiku (nee Haru Hana) a few times in the past and was not particularly impressed. However, I gave Kiku another chance earlier this month and was very, very pleased. I tried the New York roll and also the yellowtail jalapeño roll for the first time the this past Thursday night and they were both amazing. Still the best sushi around. Worth the drive from NYC. Lee and his wife, Jenny, provide a warm, friendly relaxed atmosphere. Most diners seem to be repeat visitors based on the greetings and conversations. It's not fancy and don't come if you are in a big rush. This is not a big place with a big staff. Westchester has it's share of sushi places but Haru Hana is hands down, my favorite to visit. The owner and staff are so incredibly friendly, it's almost overwhelming. Great atmosphere too. Oh did I mention the sushi is soooo tasty and fresh and yummy! My favorite order being the Rainbow roll with a couple of pieces of Hamachi.
