The restaurant is very elegant on the inside and they do offer outdoor dining. We chose the bar area since it had dimmer lighting. Immediately upon sitting down we saw that the prices were insane for what the menu items actually were. We ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer, which was $18 for 4 shrimp. It was very good, but worth it...? I don't know. The sweet potato croquettes had a great texture on the interior and exterior, but absolutely no flavor inside. The dim sum was delicious, but also overpriced for just 4 small soup dumplings. I ordered the stir-fried udon, and the noodles themselves were delicious, but the chicken was tough/overcooked and also had no flavor. The organic grilled chicken was a bit burnt on the outside and too salty. It was a $32 plate for just chicken and a few veggies-- it didn't even come with white rice or anything. For this price point, I'd expect that I'm paying for at least great service. But our waiter left us alone and only checked on us maybe twice the whole time? We were waiting about 15 minutes just to get the check because he'd completely disappeared. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and we were one of just two tables in the section, so I'm not sure why he left us alone for so long. Eventually, two other employees checked us out and packed our food after waiting that long. Overall, it was pretty disappointing and we left wishing we'd just gone somewhere else. The food was all excellent. The miso cod was a standout, with amazing sauce and very tasty fish. The sushi was also great, as were the duck buns. The sushi deluxe would've been made better by an explanation of the actual fish we were getting (Sugarfish does a great job of this in nyc when you receive a similar order). Went for a birthday lunch today, 07-12-2026, last day of the sidewalk sale. Restaurant is down a short flight of stairs with nice Japandi style decor. We had a very nice server, unsure of her name but very petite with hair pulled back into a bun. Had the Hinoki roll and it was excellent. It's a shrimp tempura roll with extra oomph. If you like shrimp tempura rolls, I recommend this one over a standard roll. Also had a yuzu soda mocktail, a hint of sweet but more acidic, very refreshing. Some may find it too sour but I enjoyed it. Others ordered....not sure what everyone else ordered. My mother who was the birthday lady ordered....I don't know what she ordered but I didn't like it. Some sort of plain roll with softshell crab or lobster, I don't think it was a specialty roll but it wasn't all that great. It was mushy and plain looking. Stick to the specialty rolls if anything. What I really like about this restaurant is that each piece was a nice smaller size and easy to eat. I do not like restaurants that serve gigantic pieces of sushi or rolls that are very hard to eat in one bite. Some dim sum dishes were ordered, a noodle dish, lobster with bok choy but I didn't try any of it. Fried banana ice cream was excellent. I would like to give Hinoki a 4 star or 4 1/2 star rating but below is what turned it into a three star, really two. But this is what kind of upset me and turned into an unpleasant experience at the end, is one of the bussers, a shorter male. When removing the dishes, he came much too close to me and me only. Two times he came directly behind and hovered right on top of me when removing dishes. It was very bizarre and uncomfortable. His arm was practically on me and in my face, his whole body was so close and right behind me and it happened twice. I'm accustomed when servers need to reach around to place or remove dishes or a tight squeeze, but not like this. It was weird, and intentionally close. We came to Hinoki for the first time for dinner over the weekend and absolutely loved it. Everything we ordered was delicious, from sushi tacos to other tasty bites. The fish was fresh and very high quality. Melt-in-your-mouth smooth! The 4 sushi tacos we tried: * Hokkaido uni caviar - more expensive because they had uni from Hokkaido, but it was so delicious! * Salmon ikura - so smooth * Shiso squid - good, but I don't love mayo * Yellowtail avocado yuzu sauce - very refreshing, like a summer dessert Other sushi and vegetables: * Toro scallion roll - not much scallion, but the toro was very plentiful and of high quality * Crispy cauliflower tempura - I'm not a cauliflower lover, but loved this dish! * Shishito peppers - good, healthy appetizer option We dined outside because it was so nice out, but inside seating had a modern, upscale vibe, perfect for cooler days. Yum yum yum! What a great swanky place in Greenwich. Went here during the holiday season and had quick, good service. The food is just so good and I had the best lychee martini ever here. Came in around 5:30 and the bar was already happened. Had a really cool vibe. Definitely an after workplace go to step by the bar. The appetizers were so delicious. We got the lettuce wrap with chicken and shrimp and it was a meal within itself. It was absolutely so delicious and I had a beautiful crunch and every bite. Ask for appetizers. Definitely try the Gyoza, spare ribs, shumai, duck wraps, and the lettuce wraps decadent yummy easy to share. Fried rice is also very, very delicious and the ribeye had a beautiful charred/crisp that was entertaining in every bite and the sauce on the side or something I've never tasted before absolutely delicious. This is a popular spot in town. The restaurant has a modern feel with clean lines. This wasn't my first time but today Anastasia made it very special. She was very professional and extremely friendly it added to our experience. In the future I will request to sit at her table, as she knew the menu and helped us navigate. The food was outstanding. We ordered shumai with pork it was very good, spicy edamame, duck bun was amazing and calamari which was ok just not to my liking. My husband ordered sushi-sashimi deluxe and said it was so fresh the fish melted in his mouth. My son ordered beef udon and loved it. I went for rolls and it didn't disappoint. Everything was very fresh. The food came out in a timely manner. I did not get a picture but my favorite menu item was the corn ribs. You absolutely must have them at the table. For being there at the busiest hour possible I would say the service was quite good. Don't be afraid to try the cocktails and save room for the fried ice cream. read more

I have been to this restaurant multiple times, and every time I've gone for lunch, the staff has been very unwelcoming--especially the server. He doesn't say a word when he comes to the table and seems like he doesn't care that you're there, making little to no effort to engage with customers. The food is good, but the staff is not. The miso cod was all our favorite dish out of everything we ordered. It was perfectly salty, although I wish it came with a side of rice. Personally I would have given this spot 3.5 stars if it was possible. Service was average, handrolls were delicious, and I found the crispy rice to be a bit bland. The price was hefty for what you got in terms of quality and quantity. It was VERY clean though which I appreciate, and it was very spacious. Their rolls were not special or unique or anything but their appetisers were *chefs kiss*. I just finished having an early dinner at Hinoki where the drinks are fresh and the service was amazing. The bartender, JP makes speciality drinks customized to your pallet that is not on the menu upon your request. The GM, Kelly comes around to greet you with kindness and asks you how your dining experience is, and if there's anything more that she can do to enhance your experience, which was very impressive. We had a bunch of things to share, including soup dumplings, duck buns, pork shumai, and the honey chashu. The soup dumplings definitely hit the spot and I enjoyed the honey chashu too. The duck buns were flavorful as well. For dinner I ended up getting the beef stir fried udon. It had good taste and was filling. Service was attentive and friendly. One of my favorite stops during my recent road trip around New England! My sister wanted to visit Greenwich so after window shopping for a bit we ended up dining at Hinoki for dinner. We were able to snag a table outside, which was lovely. It was a beautiful evening and exceptionally pleasant. For drinks, I went with a sake based on our server's recommendation. It was very tasty and refreshing, so naturally I ordered a second. They do have a handful of plant-based options, which always makes me happy. I ordered the Miso Eggplant ($16) as well as a Veggie Roll... which I don't believe was on the menu but they were able to whip one up. The Miso eggplant was soooooo delicious. Melt-in-your-mouth and uber flavorful. Probably some of the best eggplant I've had, period! It was super hot (a good thing) so be careful not to burn your eager taste buds. The veggie roll was pretty good too, although the eggplant outshined it for sure. My sister got the Vegetable Dumplings ($12) which were cute, but the serving size was VERY small. After her Edamame ($7) order she ended up getting the eggplant as well since she was still hungry. Prices are as expected, and our server was wonderful. Overall I would highly recommend! read more

First of all, they don't ask anything about allergies and I left wheezing so I could only think that there was some peanut oil in what I had. The waiter was lovely, but did get the order wrong, and the place was empty and they sat the only other couple right next to us, which was kind of awkward because there was barely anybody else in the whole place. I know they are owned by Miku and I was kind of surprised at the quality of the food and the wait staff. This place is very expensive and I will not be going again for the price it is. Everything was so good... especially the toro sushi, the fluke with shiso sushi, as well as the crispy toro rice and miso eggplant! Would skip the yellowtail taco (the yuzu sauce was too sweet), but the hit of the night was the chocolate lava cake. Oh my gosh. Hinoki brings Japanese food to an entirely new level that I'm so glad I had the opportunity to experience. The food and service were truly 5 stars, and the chic dining rooms made us feel like we were dining in NYC. In the style of Izakaya, we ordered multiple dishes and shared them all! The soup dumplings really stood out to me, especially the way they served them tableside. You'll find everything is made with premium ingredients. Hinoki is an amazing restaurant. The live scallop is incredible, I would recommend eating it with the lemon, however, remove the rind. I would recommend the restaurant to install some sound panels as it got very loud. The restaurant staff put an emphasis on making sure all parties are happy with their requested beverage. If you're looking for top notch, exceptional sushi, head to "The Avenue" (in Greenwich) and visit Hinoki. This was by far one of the best sushi experiences we've ever had, and we've been to plenty of top tier joints as sushi lovers. Each piece of fish was flavorful and tender. The tuna roll wasn't very exciting, but the pieces were so amazing we didn't really mind. We are very much creatures of habit when we have sushi, so it was nice to order a sushi dinner and eat what was put in front of us, rather than ordering the same pieces were used to. The dim sum sampler was 1 of each of 4 dumplings, so we split them all. They were all very tasty. Next time we'll try a different appetizer though. A true gem! So happy we found it! read more

Food may reflect the mashup of Hong Kong resident and a Tokyo tourist. The menu is the usual Americanized Japanese and Chinese hits. Vibe is fun but lacks any glimmer of Asian culture but more geared towards American stereotype of Asian cuisine. Places like this reinforces American concept of asian cuisine. I wish these restaurants would stop serving standard salmon, tuna, and yellowtail plus California rolls with extra sauce. High price point should command more authentic elevated food.
