Since the prices weren't cheap, we decided to share two rolls and some chicken gyoza. I tried my hardest to savor the $50 worth of food, but there's only so long you can stretch out five bites. However, since the food was so good, I'd still say it was worth it. Like seriously, the shrimp tempura roll was insane. Once again, my only complaint was the price. Stumbled into this sushi restaurant on a spontaneous date night. Though we didn't have reservations (Friday night) and the restaurant was fairly packed, we were seated within 10 minutes. I'm loving this place. I just tried it for the second time as takeout, the first time was lunch in house. Both times were fabulous. Great lunch menu with the little tacos! I just ordered the sushi sashimi platter and omg it's great. The quality of the fish is wonderful and the smoky accent flavors on some of the sashimi pieces were a delightful surprise. If you want a vibey sushi spot, this is your place. They did a renovation doubling the size in 2022, which has been a huge plus. Service was incredibly efficient ... almost too efficient at times as we didn't want to rush the experience. The best part of the old fashioned I got was probably the "Hinoki" encrusted into the orange peel. The drink itself was not much to write home about. Onto the food - crispy rice and steamed Gyoza were awesome to start. Greenwich roll and passion roll, excellent. Topped it off with a molten hot lava cake, and it was hot! This place smells like a hotel more than a restaurant. I used to enjoy this restaurant, but I believe this is my final visit. I felt everyone was rushing us the moment we walked in. Our waiter asked us at least six times during the meal how the food was. I wanted to tell him it was alright as long as he didn't check on us so frequently. With high expectations, I ordered a steak. I suppose it would be preferable if they could provide me with a fork to pair with the knife instead of the chopstick. Food: Everything is quite salty. My husband and I used to eat here minimum 3 times a week but multiple recent issues have caused us to stop. Our family has a severe dairy allergy and despite alerting the server to this, they served us food with dairy in it that made me very sick. We know it was from here and the dish because when we returned on a different occasion they said the dish we ordered cannot be made without dairy. On another occasion, the lettuce wraps had a giant dead bug in the lettuce. When we alerted the waitstaff to this they didn't even apologize or act like it was anything out of the ordinary. I've been to this restaurant a few times and it's usually okay but today's meal was really disappointing. At first we had a sharp piece of plastic in our food and then we were served rotten uni. The server gave no apology and instead explained that everyone is served that uni and that there is nothing wrong with it... which worries me if they think it's okay to serve people rotten uni all the time? Uni is my absolute favorite and I travel to Japan just to eat it... I think I'd know what uni should taste and look like. Either way perhaps it was because it was a Sunday night, but everything was off including the attitude of the server. Will not be going back again. read more

We came with a group and ordered quite a few things off the menu because it all looked so good! Best that Kelly the manager could graciously offer was a seat at the sushi bar and we snagged it. I honestly couldn't imagine being as happy anywhere else. My boyfriend and I have been eyeing this place for a while and finally went last night! I wanted to try the crispy rice spicy tuna to compare to the similar dish that NOBU has. They're both delicious though Hinoki seems to have perfected the crispness of the rice! There was an avocado sauce underneath the spicy tuna that topped it that added this delicious, zesty flavor along with the green sauce that was underneath it all. My boyfriend is not the biggest fan of this dish so was hesitant to try it when I had asked though once he bit into it, he immediately wanted another piece! 10/10 recommend. We also got two other appetizers that were delicious though the crispy rice stole the show for me! For the main entree we got the truffle rice hot pot which was like a creamy risotto- not what I was expecting but it was soo tasty. The truffle was not overwhelming as it sometimes can be and the rice was cooked to my liking. We also ordered pork shumai which they forgot about but that didn't matter - the hot pot was the perfect amount of food for the two of us and the shumai would've pushed us over the edge Our server was sweet & attentive. Our seating was a two person table and the chairs were very comfortable! Very rare to find that especially with two seating tables like that. The service was always great, knowledgeable and personable servers who took their time to explain the menu and give honest recommendations. Since the renovation (Early fall?) I've been disappointed in the service at Hinoki. Unlike before, I often felt rushed, and the chill atmosphere has become much more rigid. Im assuming the restaurant has fallen under new management since I haven't seen many of the familiar faces in a while. I am a frequent patron of Hinoki, but the new-corporate, rigid vibe takes the leisure out of the luxury dining experience.
