I've been here over 10x. The service is great; they remember my order when I visit and are super attentive. The XLB's (soup dumplings) are solid; while not as good as NYC (Joe's Shanghai, Shanghai Dumplings, Pinch, etc), they're a very strong offering and satisfy my craving. Highly recommend asking for the chili oil to complement the black vinegar, soy, ginger sauce. I also often enjoy the classic Egg Roll (I'm a sucker for these) which is consistently well-fried and tasty! Recommend asking for the Chinese mustard, in addition to the standard duck sauce. I found this little treasure while I was shopping in Connecticut. I stopped in for a quick bite and ordered chicken curry to go. It came with The choice of soup or an eggroll and fried rice. Wow! It was great. The chicken curry had many vegetables and was creamy and delicious. The eggroll was really crisp and tasty. This may be my new spot for lunch when I am in the area! It was my first time going to eat here and was met with no help browsing the menu, when i did finally order I received no follow up during my entire meal. While all the regulars received all the service. It came time to pay $38 so i put two $20 bills expecting no change back and my server was furious demanding i tip her %15 even blocking our way out. Really disappointed with the service and food. The lady server was dour faced (seemed to be with us only ) and the attitude was always one of her doing us a favor when we asked for something. Experience adds to the enjoyment of a place and the server made us feel unwelcome and ill at ease. The food quality had also seemed to have gone down with too much sugar being added to food. Hard to put into words how thrilled I was to discover Ren's. The concern of not finding (good) soup dumpling in the burbs of CT was too real and frightening. But alas.. Rens to the rescue. I've been here twice to dine in and the service is always awesome and it matches up for to-go orders as well. The woman at the front was super sweet and made sure we had lots of sauces for our food and enough fortune cookies. The place is so cute, we love it here. The food is also really good! This order was a little oily which was its only downfall but the flavors were good and the shrimp were cooked to perfection! I also got the crab rangoons which were delicious. Horrendous service. Took fifteen minutes after we sat down just to take our order, and then we waited 40 minutes for the food to come. When I told the waitress we had to go and I couldn't wait for the food anymore, she brought it to me in a to-go container and still charged me for it, despite me saying I had plans that night (that I was already late for thanks to their terrible service) and I didn't want it just sitting in my car for the next four hours. After a day of running around the countryside my girlfriend and I decided to stop here to get takeout. I got dumplings, hot and sour soup and cold spicy noodles. None of them were very good. The dumplings were bland, with a very doughy thick skin, not the relatively thin skin dumplings that I am accustomed to from Chinatown and China. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour, and the cold spicy noodles in sesame sauce were sweet and virtually inedible. Upon entering it is a very cozy place. The staff there are very nice and can churn out food very quickly. We got 3 versions of dumplings -- 1 fried and 2 soup dumplings (crab and pork). The dumplings were alright and satisfied my cravings. The other dishes we ordered were the walnut shrimp/chicken and the pork.
