I had a family lunch here yesterday with several small children. First the staffs were such a great for us and for small children. Food they prepared was superb and good for both adults and children. Menu selection was not so wide but we could all choose what we want. If they have wider menu I may give 5 stars instead of 4. I see and feel very good quality of ingredients used. We came here after this place was on Instagram. We ate here on Christmas Eve, and the place was packed with takeout orders. People were waiting for hours, but thank God we didn't order takeout. We sat, and the food came out fast. We had the wok beef tenderloin and a curry seafood dish. They were both delicious. Service was a bit weak, but the waiter was still nice. Tried two lunch specials, General Tso's chicken and beef with broccoli. Came with soup, so we chose the wonton soup and hot and sour soup. Both soups were good. Took a bite of the General Tso's and noticed it was spicy. Normally, I don't find it is spicy. Had a couple more bites, and had to stop because I was now tearing up. Fortunately, my husband Loves spicy, so we switched. And the beef and broccoli was sooo good. I just have to pay attention next time for any mention of spiciness. Warmly greeted and quick turnaround. Went to Ching's Table last weekend and ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. The smell and taste of cleaning solvent or ammonia in my fish was so overwhelming and disgusting. After telling the waiter who of course apologized and offered me something else, I was not interested. Amazing how they did not notice this while cooking it. I grew up in New Canaan and I always loved Ching's Table. I was in town yesterday visiting my parents and called in my standard order. It was atrocious! The sesame chicken @ Ching's Table was always the gold standard in what sesame chicken should be, handily beating out other great places like Village Gourmet in Norwalk. Sadly the sesame chicken was a little too crispy with many pieces being burnt. The taste was off and it was obviously due to the oil used not being changed regularly. A few of the pieces were as I expected and just made the bad pieces that much worse. The spring rolls were serviceable but nothing spectacular. No sauce was provided for them either. Bummer. The corwning jewel was the "fried rice". It looked like someone tossed white rice across a dirty pan for a split second. There was zero flavor or seasoning. The veg was nothing more than broccoli and peas. No carrots. No green onion. Nothing but broccoli and peas. Idk if this is some new health trend or what but I have never had fried rice with broccoli in it. Absolutely disgusting. read more

My partner and stepdaughter and I went for dinner at Ching's Table in November of this year. We are from Ridgefield but love their food so ventured out of town. Our server was great but the meal ended with unfair treatment from their hostess / manager and patrons waiting for a table. We were finishing our meal and drinks and about every two minutes the hostess, and manager would come hover over the table applying non-verbal pressure for us to hurry and pay. When we asked to see a dessert menu the hostess jumped in and said they don't have dessert. When we questioned that she changed her answer and brought over a menu. We did not order dessert but were upset that we were being rushed out. As this was happening one of the patrons awaiting a table would come over and stand behind my partner to survey our table and others. There was no long wait it was her party and another couple. She should have been asked to wait politely in the vestibule. Finally we paid and left and I shared my opinion with the hostess - it's not nice to pressure us when we are trying to finish a meal. As a place with a long history and reputation for good food and fast service this was unacceptable treatment. We will NEVER eat here again. I'm not sure if we would be treated better as locals but this was an embarrassment to such an affluent town. Server was lovely so no fault of his. read more

Poor food quantity possibly the worst Asian food I have ever been served. Oh did I say served, well that was non existent also. Positively Incredible Pan Asian. The food is fantastic and delicious, from the scrumptious dumplings to the yummy fried rice, plus the bartender makes an amazing heavy-poured Jack and Coke. This place is our weekly Sunday night takeout spot! Delicious comfort food at an incredibly great price! We always get the wonton soups, chicken lettuce wraps, vegetable fried rice, and sometimes the pad Thai & spring rolls. They have ALWAYS been 15-20mins wait time which is outstandingly fast for takeout (we call in). Just consistently yummy takeout with very friendly staff! Ordered two soups, duck spring rolls and one entree to share. The soups were not even luke warm. Sent them back politely. They returned, not one degree hotter. Sent one back. Returned, absolutely zero improvement. The main course was dumped on the table. A server came to say that kitchen closed, can't help it. And very sorry. I replied that once we were seated we should have been served properly. Or else not seated. So while my soup was getting hot (not really), the main course was getting cold right in front of me. Apologies galore but couldn't do anything about it and problem was of course kitchen closed. Zero responsibility or accountability. Basically my problem. Then the spring rolls were served. Stay away from this place! I called and made a reservation under my name, got there 20 minutes later and the very-busy-to-smile hostess didn't have my name in the hand written list... Well, that happens. Anyway, they gave us a table and forgot about us for a good 15 minutes. The server never asked us if we wanted water, but thank goodness he brought us three diet cokes. I asked for straws, but I only got one (is it hard to bring straws for everybody?). We ordered food and waited for 50 minutes to get it while others, who came much later, got their food and drinks served just promptly. I wanted to get some water at last and got tired of constantly looking for our server so I called another server, but she didn't even turn her head... Well, after 50 minutes we got our food and it was, unfortunately, of poor quality -- over fried, over sweetened and just tasteless. Will never come back. Great spot for lunch in New Canaan. They offer a two course meal for $12.95, and we ended up getting a Tonkotsu Ramen with Chicken and Chicken Satay combo, and a Curry Ramen with Ribs with a Vietnamese Summer Roll. We also ordered a Pan Seared Sesame Tuna off their dinner menu, as well as scallion pancakes. Each dish was delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised by their ramen dishes (which are lunch exclusive by the way). The tonkotsu ramen doesn't come with the usual soft boiled egg and chashu pork, but the broth flavor is spot on. I would definitely recommend getting tonkotsu with the honey ribs. Although the chicken was okay, the ribs were very tender and bursting with flavor. Overall, great meal and friendly service. Looking forward to making this my regular lunch spot! read more

Ching's Table, albeit fancier and cleanlier than most Chinese restaurants, is just one out of the many establishments in CT that serve overpriced, unauthentic Asian food. We ordered the chicken Tonkatsu ramen and the ginger chicken with white rice and were not surprised by the following let down. The ramen appeared to be straight out of a 75 cent ramen package, with broth that was salty, watery and tasted nothing like Tonkatsu. They did give a lot of chicken, which is appreciated as many restaurants can get a bit stingy with meat, but the bowl in its entirety was a disappointment. The ginger chicken on the other hand, was loaded with sauce as many faux Chinese dishes are, and was topped with ginger you usually see in a Japanese bento box. You would think that "ginger chicken" would contain fresh ginger... but no, they took the odd and easy way out. Moreover, the white rice came in a small dish the size of an ashtray, which was devoured in two large bites. On a good note, service was good and the restaurant possessed a nice modern ambience. Between 5 and 10 years ago, I used to eat at Wild Ginger in Ridgefield at least once a month. I loved the food and the price was right. I always knew that Wild Ginger had a sister location here in New Canaan, but never found the opportunity to check it out. Well, a Ching's Table gift card gave me that opportunity today. We decided to visit for lunch and were very pleasantly surprised by the generous deal offered on the seasonal lunch special menu. $10.50 for a two course meal. The options looked good, some items familiar some not. I went with the satay chicken to start followed by general tso chicken. Wow, what a deal. The food was even better than what I remember from Wild Ginger and for such a reasonable price. If we lived a little closer, I'd probably visit at least once a month for lunch. Next time I'm going to get the crispy snapper. It wasn't on the lunch special menu, but was on the regular lunch menu for around $13. This was one of my absolute favorites at WG - and at an even better price (about $5 cheaper)! Glad to see Alan Lee is still doing well here in New Canaan. I'll be back! read more

I've been ordering from Ching's Table for over 20 years. I travel 30-35 minutes to get to New Canaan from Fairfield CT. I always felt it was worth the time in order to enjoy one of the finest Pan Asian Restaurants on the East Coast. Sadly I will not be making that trip again. I'm not sure what has happened but the quality of the food at Ching's is no longer the standard bearer for excellence. On the contrary, it has slipped into mediocrity. Three times in the past year I've been disappointed with the ginger scallion duck, tempura shrimp and several other signature dishes I've enjoyed over the years. Outstanding Meal at a New Canaan Stalwart Ching's Table has always been one of our favorite Asian restaurants in the area, but it had been some time since we last dined there. We met friends for dinner before local theater and we all agreed the food was outstanding. Our server was helpful in recommending menu choices.We had a range of appetizers including Dim Sum, the Vietnamese summer roles, and the Sichuan dumplings. As a main course, the pan roasted chilean sea bass was outstanding, as was the Thai coconut curry casserole. This is a busy place and the noise level is typical of popular restaurants in the area, which is to say high. Ching's Table is NOT what it used to be. Had dinner just now and I actually feel sick. Dim Sum was way too salty and tasted foul. Dipping sauce was awful as they are now using cheap soy sauce. Pan fried dumplings are better from Trader Joe's frozen section. Pad Thai noodles were too soft and the whole dish lacked flavor - worse yet were the lame frozen tiny shrimp! Chings Table is by far my favorite Asian fusion restaurant ever. I have been to many different places and every single places lacks the amount of flavor and freshness Chings always brings to the table. From their amazing lunch specials to their dinner, everything is always delicious. I moved out of CT and go to Chings every single time I visit. Their Szechuan dumplings are a MUST try if you haven't already. Not sure why this place has gotten 3.5 stars because wow. Although, I will say this! Last time I went there and had their chicken dumplings, I noticed they had a different wrapper...which was disappointing because the texture of the other once it was fried was amazing...the dumpling was still really good but I highly suggest they go back to their original wrapper for those dumplings. read more
