I know I just had chinese food on Friday night but it was such a disappointment I had to get chinese again last night This chinese food place is not close to where I live right now so while I was out I had to pick some up. My appetizer that Im so happy they are still making is a mild spicy garlic fried wontons. Somehow they get eight of these wontons in the little container. The combo of spiciness and garlic is sooo good! I have to admit for my dinner I meant to get the BBQ Spare ribs on the bone but messed up and ordered boneless. The 1st 2 times I ordered from here, I was happy to find a decent takeout spot. 3 months ago I ordered the peppersteak with onions combination. I love onions so as usual ordered extra onions in my rice. What I got was giant irregular cut onions. When my order was ready the woman made a remark which seemed to be spiteful. I decided not to patronize them again. Yesterday, 3 months later I decided to try again Every place have bad days. The woman seemed to give me a welcoming greeting. I ordered the pork egg foo young combination, which I enjoyed when I patronized them before, as per my earlier review. When I got home my egg food young was stuffed with at least 3 portions of hard green peas. This could not have been an accident because she made it herself. The meal was disappointing, extra greasy and a waste of money. There has never been a bad word spoken between aside from the comment she made. First time here at Kai's Place. We came based on the good reviews. We were not disappointed. Lady at counter was very friendly and super patient (my friend has Alzheimer's and has hard time asking what he needs). She was so nice and she didn't rush him. Food was really good. Both ordered Pork Chow Ho Fun. One of our favorite dishes. It was delicious. So good in fact I couldn't share a photo bcuz it didn't last long! Lol! Check it out. I live on the ridgefield side of Danbury and drive all the way to Kai's place because they are fantastic. They have an extensive Chinese menu and a limited Thai menu but everything is just really really good. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. read more

So far, the best overall Chinese food I've had in the Danbury area. I recently did a trial of several Chinese food restaurants in the Danbury area and this place came out on top. I didn't have a go-to Chinese food restaurant, I went out to see what was in Danbury and Bethel "Just the Basics" WonTon soup, rice, eggrolls all seem like things that are easy to do, but there's what you expect and what you actually get. The wontons and broth are pretty much an American standard and these fell well within what you'd expect, as well as being tasty. The egg rolls have no "surprise" ingredients and are cooked but not overdone. Sticky rice is exactly what you expect. "A few dishes" General Tso's Chicken and Chicken and Broccoli rule the table when I'm taking orders for my family. Both are good/very good. "Special Order" One thing that's great is that most Chinese restaurants will take custom orders based on a diet you may be on, or something you prefer. Several orders of "steamed with sauce on the side" for both of the above orders came out consistently delicious and ask requested. "Location" Northern Padanaram Rd can be a gamble depending on the time of day and any traffic incidents, but there hasn't been too much difficulty getting out of the parking lot and any 'asphalt imperfections' are easily avoided. On a whim, I was poking through the inexpensive options locally on Yelp, and I spotted the gem known as Kai's Place. Given the menu and pricing, I expected it to be a bargain-bin hole in the wall chinese place, to be added to rotation of McDonald's and Burger King in the broke college student diet. I'm a sucker for bargains, so I stopped in- and I have been absolutely floored since I arrived. This restaurant ranks far above the expensive chinese restaurants I've been to locally- it's operating on the level you would expect from Chinatown. Seriously. It's that good. A note on actually finding the place- it's in Carbarie Square Shopping Center, next to the gravel processing plant. There's no actual number 45 on the sign! It's a small restaurant- there are three tables total- this is a place you should take out from- although if you choose to sit down like I did you will notice that every surface is impeccably clean. The atmosphere is good- and the experience with ordering was superior- the staff were attentive, thoughtful, and fast. That might be too many adjectives, but I don't care. My experience was that good. And then, the food arrived. It was a hot summer day, and I was offered a free virgin mojito- which was excellent, by the way- if they had a liquor permit this place would be absolutely unstoppable. The egg drop soup arrived first, and in what seems to be the first time I have ever experienced this- it wasn't over-salty. Most chinese places disguise bad chicken stock with salt, but this was just the opposite- good flavor permeated the soup, and it had just the right amount of cornstarch for the eggs to separate and cook properly. This, on it's own would have been a great experience, but they took that and elevated it. The fried noodles that go with the soup were crispy without being greasy, and actually had a hint of noodle flavor- imagine that! Then- the main course. I got the sesame chicken and fried rice combo. It also came with an egg roll, which was great as well. The sesame chicken- true to form- arrived with a ton of sesame seeds on it- seriously, why don't more places do this? It was crispy, sweet, filled with flavor. It was an experience that beat out many $30+ chinese places- I was shocked. The roast pork fried rice, that came with the meal, was the other highlight. When I say roast pork, I really mean it- not those flavorless red bits you've come to expect from other places. It tasted like actual roasted pork- and keeping with the theme of this place, was not oversalted, soy or otherwise. The fact that they put the care and detail into the simple things means I won't be afraid to try more complex dishes here. As it stands, they've won my business for the foreseeable future. read more

Kai's Place is an amazing find! Actually a wrong turn, at the right time, and is now our go-to for awesome Asian cuisine. We live 40 minutes away, in Easton, and visit Kai's whenever we can. It's definitely destination dining for us. The servings are more than enough to have dinner and a next day lunch, although we have been known to order 2 meals to have a second dinner later in the week. It's THAT GOOD. Kai always has a smile on her face, she knows and wants to know her customers. When we order 2 orders of fried chicken wing appitizers, large Wonton soup, she knows exactly what the rest of the order will be, before we even say our name. We have our favorite dishes but Kai likes to toss it up, and sometimes gives us a sample taste of new items and it becomes a toss-up what to order. I can't say enough and I'm a really picky eater. Small 3 table seating, always clean, and always welcoming. When ordering take-out for a 40 minute drive home, the smell in the car is torture, we can't wait to get home and eat. Ordered Kai's through DoorDash. The food was delivered within 30 min. I have zero complaints! I'd definitely recommend this place. We ordered: -Wonton Egg Drop soup mix--it was good. Dumplings were full and tasted lovely as did the soup. -Crab Rangoon--They were full and light and crispy, not chewy. You can taste the filling as the ratio of wonton & filling is good. -Szechuan Dumplings--This is large enough to be a meal! They were full and served in a yummy peanut sauce. Definitely recommended! -Sweet & Sour Chicken--The sauce was on the side as it should be since it was to go. The chicken itself was light and not greasy at all. -Shrimp & Pineapple Fried Rice-- it's a huge portion. Shrimp are large and cooked well. Make sure to realize, this is a take out joint with a couple of tables ... this review is not for "eat in" service, food only! Everything we got here was delicious. Any time we go for Chinese food, we try to go in first for a whiff. If it smells like burnt grease, we're out of there! If it doesn't there's still the chance of greasy food. Not here!!! Appetizers: Crab rangoon (hard to find item) -- a tad sweet but nicely crispy and a decent amount of crab. Fried dumplings -- delicious and not too doughy. Good dipping sauce. Yang Chow fried rice: This (white rice with lots of stuff in it) is a somewhat hard to find favorite of ours. Did not disappoint. Entrees: Spicy beef -- woo oot! It IS spicy as advertised. Sweet & Sour pork -- a favorite, but too often a bad dish using grizzly bad pieces of pork. Not here. Tender and juicy little puffs, not greasy. Generous portions, granted we ordered more food than one dinner, but the small sizes for the entrees and the rest was more than enough for two dinners for two. No grease on reheating either. Driving through and needed a lunch place so the high reviews led us here. First the good -- my chicken with broccoli with garlic sauce was good. The white meat chicken was good quality and along with the broccoli sauteed to perfection. The hot and sour soup the lunch special came with though tasted of pure black pepper! The sesame chicken we also got was bad. Mostly tasted of fried batter/coating - much too fried and not much actual chicken with a bad oil flavor. There was some sort of I guess free deep fried item with sugar on top in our bag - perhaps it comes with the lunch special.. I don't know but it had the worst taste I've possibly ever had -- like rancid oil.. something gone very bad. Very nice people so I feel badly posting this but stay away from the fried type of food and stick with the sauteed/steamed! read more

I got the shrimp Chow Ho Fun, which was exactly what you'd expect for the price. The portions were good, and it tasted good as well! We dined inside the restaurant, which was small, but there were enough booths as well as a waiting area for order pickups. The service was great as well! Everyone was super polite, and they gave us complimentary iced tea as we waited for our order to arrive. My only complaint was that my pair of chopsticks gave me multiple splinters, which may have been a fluke with just that pair. Still, I would be cautious with those wooden chopsticks. We recently moved from another part of the state and we've been trying all different Chinese places in the area trying to find our new spot. I found this place from the reviews online and had high hopes. I have to say I was not disappointed at all. Best crab rangoons I've ever had! They also gave us free donuts with our order, which were great! Everything tasted fresh and nothing was overly greasy.
