Had reservations for hibachi on a Saturday night. The entire restaurant was pretty packed out and it took about 20 mins after our reservation before we were seated. Our orders were taken pretty promptly but it took a bit for drinks and apps to come out, and my Japanese soda was forgotten. The hibachi chef was great and very generous with the sake. Everyone had a lot of fun and the food was delicious too. Prices were on par with most hibachi restaurants I've been to before. Would definitely go again! read more

Went to Zen with my wife on a Friday afternoon. Wife started off with the shrimp tempura roll which was very good. I had the rock shrimp which are always excellent. My wife's main was the chicken and Chinese vegetables which she honestly loved, everything tasted fresh, with a great sauce. I had the General tso shrimp which I also loved. We came here for lunch on a Tuesday. The place is really beautiful inside, looks like a fancy place but has great prices. Our friend ordered the general tso and she had to take some home. She let us try, and the chicken was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. The rice was great, and flavorful. The sushi lunch entrees were just ok, very simple but flavorful. If you are gluten free, do not come here. Food is delicious however not safe for celiacs. Twice we have been served glutenous noodles with gluten free soy sauce on top so they told us it was gluten free. First time we caught it before eating, but the second time we caught after already starting to eat. We were told the udon noodles were gluten free at least 5 times. A ridiculous amount of conversations over what was gluten free on the menu, just to be told after taking a bite that the noodles were in fact wheat based. Very disappointing. read more

We went there last week to clebrate my bithday with the family. We had 7 of us and such a great time. My MIL who is turning 92 this month said she enjoyed it and hadn't laughed that much in a long time. She was even getting the sake shot in her motrh by the Chef Ken. We will be back very soon. My son took me to Zen, My son and I ordered Hibachi, I noticed as the hostess escorted us to a grill, she sat us at a grill that was that wasn'tcleaned well, food from previous customer was left on grill and the center of grill was still darkened from previous cooking. I thought maybe they would clean the grill, which did not happen, the grill master just came in sprayed some water and wiped with towel, which was black after he wiped the grill, it was obvious the grill needed more cleaning. The grill master overcooked the food, I could say more about his process of cooking but I will not. My food tasted burnt. Can you imagine paying $37.62 for a meal you couldn't eat. The hostess asked, you finished, my son spoke up and said her food tasted burnt, mind you my son boxed up his food. I ate none of it. The hostess didn't offer a remedy, not a discount or anything, she gladly took my payment, the Hibachi chef seemed angry, did not greet us, very messy as he tossed the food onto my plate, hot juice hit my arm, I told him, he shrugged his shoulders and moved on. It was awful. By the way when he finished cooking and he cleaned the grill, rhe grill was shining clean. My pallet is very sensitive to taste. I cannot believe this happened. Forgot about this place and recently rediscovered it! I really enjoyed my meal of cashew chicken with white rice. The sauce had a perfect savory and tangy sticky sauce mixed in with the chicken and cashew. I'm not a huge fan of celery but I honestly just picked around it and there was still a lot to eat. I also ordered a sweet potato roll which for a standard 6 roll I thought the pieces were large! My friend enjoyed the chicken pad Thai. The taste was not similar to ones I've had before. We ordered takeout sushi from here and explicitly provided strict instructions stating a severe, life-threatening sesame allergy. While the food itself may not have been made with sesame, it was clearly prepared on a contaminated surface containing sesame seeds, which mixed directly into our food. This gross negligence caused my daughter to have a severe allergic reaction.When I contacted Zen Restaurant about the incident, the owner called me and requested that I text him photos of the food. After reviewing them, he claimed his chef "did not do it" but openly acknowledged the situation by offering a refund for that portion of the bill. Since that conversation, the owner has completely ghosted me. He has ignored multiple text messages asking about the status of the refund. It is incredibly alarming that a restaurant handles critical food safety and severe allergen requests with such carelessness, and it is equally disappointing that management avoids accountability after promising to fix their mistake. Be extremely cautious ordering from here if you have any food allergies. read more

I had the chance to dine at Zen Asian Kitchen in Danbury CT. The waitress came over and took the order but was very limited in her English - it was a challenge . No jokes allowed because she laughed at everything . Started off with a vegetable spring roll with choice of 2 sauces it was great and a little bit on the pricy side - 2.50 each along with a vegetable dumpling , again 2.50 each . Taste was great -, not greasy and served hot . Then came the sushi , ordered 3 rolls , I felt it was lacking the vinegar in the rice - otherwise it was nicely presented . Price was normal this size roll serving 8 pieces each roll . Then I ordered the chicken and prawn in spicy coconut curry sauce . The curry was on point but could have been a little thicker sauce to coat the shrimp and chicken . I ate it with a fork but needed a spoon to get the sauce and protein all in one bite . It was splashing as I poked the shrimp and chicken and wore it on my shirt . I asked the waitress what type of rice do you have - she replied and said white or brown rice , I asked her if was Japanese rice she kept repeating brown or white rice . After the 3rd attempt - I felt I was not getting anywhere with her - so I just went with the brown rice which had no flavor at all. There are many varieties of rice and paring them with the right dish would have made it a winner . YouTube has an excellent explanation of Chinese rices VS Japanese rice and are different when pared with right dish . Rices should compliment the recipe right dish accordingly . In place of bread and butter they served noodles which were NOT greasy with 2 sauces , spicy mustard and duck sauce . It did the job until appetizers arrived . I highly recommend this restaurant- but please use tablecloths for dinner as it was a little noisy . There was a crowd of people eating hibachi in a separate room where the noise was emanating from . The food here was really good our first meal arriving to CT. Not to far from where my friend lives. The place was packed and very busy, the lighting was intimate and dark. We ordered the Calamari- actually one of the best calamari I ever had believe it or not. Tuna Tartare was really good and sauce it came it with. The Walnut prawns were huge lightly battered and tasty. Beef Chow Mein was very flavorful and delicious. Then we ordered a variety of 8 Sushi rolls I cant remember what we got but they were all pretty good. This is my go to sushi restaurant around here!! They never disappoint. I always get my lychee martini and an assortment of sushi rolls. We started with a treasure salad which came with raw fish, crab, seaweed salad and cucumber, very good except the fish in it was a bit fishy. This time we ordered scallop roll (fav), Alaskan roll, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, yellowtail scallion and sushi trio and we asked for them to put it all on a sushi boat which they did for us! If you're looking for a solid sushi restaurant, this isn't it. It's a moderate Chinese restaurant with so-so sushi. The menu is your standard Chinese take out menu, with strip-mall sushi that isn't anything to right home about. The sushi was lack luster. About half of what a potion should be, but for full price. 2 inch by 1 inch rice base with 2 inch by 3/4 inch by 1/4 inch thickness of fish!!! When they arrived they were so skinny and anemic, my wife, who's not a sushi person, knew that they were off. I'd hate to see what the sashimi looked like. Sushi is about appearance, freshness and presentation, even in its basic form. Happy that it was fresh, but "meh" all around. Sorry to say, we won't be back. read more

Some may find this efficient, I find it "being rushed" and not a good start. The whole meal went like that. we ordered, cook came and did his thing. almost as soon as he finished we were being given take out containers. Can you wait until I am done eating before you hand me a take out container? And...no ice cream dessert? All other hibachi restaurants serve you a complete meal including dessert. I've dined here a few times before and had good experiences. Unfortunately we reserved for the first time the hibachi table for my daughter's and niece's birthday. Our reservation was for 8:30 , we were seated after 9 and waited an additional 40 mins for the two chefs to come to the table to cook. I went by myself and all I ordered was one soda, one plate of pork fried rice, and one roll of sushi and the bill came out to $42. $42 for just myself. Really? I will never go back to this place just cause of how outrageous the prices are in this place. And the service isn't that great either. They barely came over to see how the food was. My husband and I went to Zen last night for dinner. It was about our third time dining at the restaurant. We had no issues and liked the food and drinks during our prior visits so we decided to return. Last night, we arrived and the staff was polite and our food was good. However, shortly after our sushi was served, in the booth facing ours (and visible to many in the restaurant) a couple allowed their two small children (abt ages 2 & 3) to sit crouching, with BARE FEET ON THE TABLE, and shove food in their mouths with their hands. At one point, one child took a bowl of food and, while standing on the table and poured it on the table! The children would stand up on the table or sit on the table but didn't use their seats, or only for a short time. We were horrified. Someone from the restaurant cam up to chat with them - but nothing was resolved. Finally they were given booster seats that the children only used for a short time. Am I wrong for saying that this family should have been told that they were jeopardizing this restaurant's standing with board of health? And something more firm should have been done about this than just delivering booster seats. This was so disgusting. I felt it ruined the entire dining experience and I will not be returning. I realize that it's not the restaurant's fault that this these parents allowed these shenanigans, but they should have been more firm and direct and not just smiling at those disgusting bare feet on the table. read more
